Hello!

Haven't been on here in a while. Just browsing now and having a little look at peoples' ideas for birth plans - very helpful thanks. I am imagine mine will be quite short as me and DH are quite relaxed about what happens on the day, but it's good to ponder over some of the issues and decisions you've mentioned.

Those on the facebook group may know that I've had adventurous time in the last few days. Early on Thurs morning I awoke with what felt like a pulled muscle underneath my ribs. I was a little nervous about whether paracetemol was appropriate so rang NHS 24. It turns out that their policy for any pregnant woman complaining of chest pain is to assume a possible pulmonary embolism and send for an ambulance! So that's what happened.

The paramedics said I appeared fine but advised me to either go back to hospital with them or see my GP. I chose the latter, but later regretted it as he advised me to get checked out in obstetric triage anyway. To cut a long story short, I was in triage for about 8 hours, saw numerous medical professionals, and got a strong feeling that there were backroom disagreements about the potential risks. One minute I'd be told I was getting out shortly, next I was being asked to wait for further tests, etc. But throughout the whole thing my blood pressure, etc was absolutely fine. A junior doctor did spot a slight murmur from my heart and this concerned the registrar enough that after the 'medic' heart/lung specialist team had apparently refused to see me for about the fourth time (presumably because my obs had remained normal and constant the whole day) he decided to admit me as an inpatient at about 8:30pm in order to 'force' the medic team to come and see me. By this point my initial pain had almost gone away!

So I ended up staying in hospital overnight, being told it was necessary for me to have a heart scan the following day. However, when the (different) consultant came round then he decided there was no immediate rush and I could be referred as an outpatient. So I was sent home that morning. And no, I never did see the medic team after all...

The heart murmur is still a slight concern, but all doctors who heard it thought it was almost certainly a unproblematic 'flow murmur' which doesn't put me or the baby in any danger. Apparently these things are very common during pregnancy. I've just got to wait for the heart scan appointment to come through (and try not to panic every time I feel my heartrate rise whilst walking uphill or climbing stairs in the meantime! Grin)

Sorry for the long post - but thought it might be of interest. I never thought that a slightly pulled muscle could lead to an overnight hospital stay! DH has banned me from ever asking for advice on paracetemol ever again Smile, but I guess it's good that at least the heart murmur can be checked out now, and did give me an insight as to what being on a maternity ward is like. I certainly couldn't complain that my medical needs were not being taken seriously enough!

Stopsittingonyoursister · 14/04/2013 00:04

Wow chocolate that sounds scary! Good to know that they take things seriously, though, just in case.

Have just finished sorting and folding all of DD's 0 - 12m clothes, as I have sold them all on to a friend's family. Have been weeping over some of the little outfits that I remember her wearing really clearly like it was only a couple of months ago, and not 2 - 3 years ago. I cannot believe where the time goes, makes me so sad that you can't slow everything down so you can really appreciate what you have whilst it's right there in front of you.

Woofers · 14/04/2013 13:29

Chocolate - glad you got seen as a proper priority and they weren't mucking about. At least, as you say, they can monitor things from now on.

Waves. ThanksThanksThanksThanksThanksThanksThanks
How bloody shit. I hope you have some rl support, and you are not feeling too rubbish. Have you tried ginger biscuits?! Wink

I have a new iPhone 5. Do you have any pregnancy apps? I don't mind paying a few pounds but I want something useful.

muddybloodypuddles · 14/04/2013 14:56

Chocolate - glad everything was okay in the end, what a nightmare! But as everyone else has said it's reassuring they took it all so seriously

Woofers - I used a contractions app with DS which was really useful..

DS been poorly since yesterday with really high temp, he's just asked to cone downstairs now at 2.45pm! So has been sleeping most of the day with bouts of the runs and he was sick once. He's had some toast and it hasn't come back up and I can hear dh negotiating with him that he needs to finish his diarolyte (sp?) before he can come down to watch tv - hate seeing my baby I'll :-( - even worse I couldn't pick him up to carry him to the bathroom - good job dh was here

RuckAndRoll · 14/04/2013 17:15

muddy I just read that as a contraception app! not much use to us at the momentGrin I must remember to read things properly.

we had an expensive day but now have paint for nursery, cot, changer, Moses basket and stand and changing mat. we now have plenty of stuff, so why do I feel so disorganised?!

muddybloodypuddles · 14/04/2013 20:33

Lol ruck - bit late for that now Grin

chocolatesolveseverything · 14/04/2013 21:19

Know what you mean about not feeling organised enough ruck, but you're probably fine.

Saying that, has anyone noticed on the July thread that one of the ladies has just given birth prematurely? I think she was due less than a week before me so reading it has shaken me up a bit! (Hope the baby's doing OK, poor mite.)

RememberingMyPFEs · 15/04/2013 06:42

I saw that in the July thread, very scary stuff! I know we are just entering the viability area so the thought is less terrifying week by week, but even still Hmm

My hypnobirthing classes are going really well, practicing my breathing is helping me sleep when I wake up in the middle of the night too. DH and I are going to write out birth plans out soon but want to visit the birth centre first to ask some questions.

waves and chocolate hope you're both doing ok!
Hope everyone has a good week.

MrsWajs · 15/04/2013 13:16

Aaaaarrgghhh we move house in 4 days and I just can't find the motivation to start packing!! I've emptied my wardrobe and bagged up loads of stuff - mainly because that's an easy job as I can't wear most of it!! I've sorted out some stuff from the bathroom, also easy, next I'm planning to start the living room but my back is killing me now! I'm signed off work til Friday so am supposed to be taking it easy, which was going well over the weekend as DP was here but now I'm sore again!
Never mind scan is THIS WEEK!!!! Yay!! Grin

Woofers · 15/04/2013 19:29

How's everyone getting on with name choices?
We have an 80% possible but mum and m I L don't like it.

GaryBuseysTeeth · 15/04/2013 19:49

I can't imagine the stress/sadness of having such an early preemie Sad
Hope he pulls through with as little sideeffects/hospital time as possible.

Woofers, why don't they like your name choice?
We have a shortlist but won't be naming it until it's born.

Chocolate, glad everything is 'ok' now, hope the scan appointment comes through asap.

StopSitting, looking at buying DS's winter clothes now (can't see myself having the energy with a 4month old!) and it's depressing enough knowing he'll be wearing 2yr old things, because he's going to be a two year! Waaaah, my baby growing up!

Locketjuice · 15/04/2013 19:55

My other halfs cousin had her baby at 24 weeks weighing a tiny 1lb 9oz she is now a gorgeous (still teeny for her age and still only 14lb) 1 year old, she was born a week before my little boy and he looks like a giant next to her but there are happy endings, she talks crawls etc Smile

FoofFighter · 15/04/2013 20:32

Woofers - we have pretty much got them sorted out (barring the baby looking nothing like the name!) and are not telling anyone precisely for that reason - we don't want anyone putting negative spins on the names we have chosen. it's nothing to do with your M and MIL, they had their chance naming you two!!

CheeseTMouse · 15/04/2013 21:07

Hello. Have been lurking for a while and my first post. Due in August with first baby, so thought I'd delurk and see what helpful hints I can pick up... All very exciting and have felt baby kicking in last few days, so feels a lot more real.

Looking forward to sharing the rollercoaster with you all.

muddybloodypuddles · 15/04/2013 21:38

Hi cheesetmouseand welcome -it makes it feel more real when you can feel the baby Smile

I looked up the thing about the early baby on July thread (I prob shouldn't have?!?) - scary stuff, hope baby is okay

As for names I have a couple of names but also not sharing with family / friends as don't want their 'opinions' on them. Have one that seems like 'the one' but it's got a lot more common over the last couple of years so not sure just based on that so am doing more research to see if any others hit us like that, if not that will be 'the one' (common or not lol). DH and I are trying to stop calling her that name so we can try out some others.

mrswajs-good luck with the move, I keep having the odd days of motivation and energy with days of just wanting to slob out all day -I hope you'll get some energy /motivation days!!

Feeling fat today, haven't seen my dad since 16 weeks and met him for lunch today, his comment was 'I wasn't expecting you to be that big for 20 weeks' - I just replied, 'I'm 24 weeks so probably not that big'... anyway I do feel big and my bump feels quite uncomfortable and 'stretched' most of the day apart from first thing in the morning when it is much smaller and doesn't feel uncomfortable. I don't remember feeling this uncomfortable so much with DS... only 16 weeks to go!!

24 weeks today Smile

RuckAndRoll · 15/04/2013 22:24

welcome cheese I've been reading up on breastfeeding tonight and baby went mad whilst dh and I were talking about it. think it might like its food just like its daddy!

we have a list of baby names stuck to the fridge. 10 of each which we're hoping to have down to 3 of each then.decide once it's here. have to keep remembering to move it when ppl come round as we don't want 'helpful' suggestions.

mrs Eek moving house sounds stressful. hope you have plenty of chocolate on standby
