Aargh! MW was supposed to come to my house at nine for my 31 week appt. At nine thirty I called her and she's forgotten!

She asked if I could wait til next week but I said no as I was in hospital on Friday with high BP and plus protein and the only reason they were happy for me to leave was because I was seeing her today! She's coming in an hour now but I'm so upset.

I was supposed to be taking DD to gymnastics but I've had to send her with MIL and she was so looking forward to me coming as I've missed the last three weeks due to hospital appointments.

JaquelineHyde · 04/02/2013 10:25

Oh no sneezy that's awful Shock

Hopefully you will be able to get to DDs gymnastics next week?

I've got the midwife coming on Thursday for a chat/debrief about my last birth experience as the way I was treated was horrible and until I was admitted last month and I broke down we didn't realise just how much being back in the hospital had effected me.

She said she is bringing all of my pg notes with her for us to go over and I'm really quite eager to see what's in them as after I gave birth I never saw them again and it's been 7 years.

Hope everyone is well and sailing through the final trimester...I cannot believe we are in February!!

JessieEssex · 04/02/2013 11:18

OMG I have just realised that I am offically due NEXT MONTH (31st March...!)

Haven't done anything re hospital bag yet, but I know that I have everything, it's just scattered all round the house! Last time I took so much stuff in, and hardly touched any of it. I was only in hospital for 2 hours before DD was born, and came home the same day, so my piles of magazines, sweets, 3 changes of clothes etc were a bit redundant! I would recommend taking small juice cartons, flapjacks / cereal bars etc - they were the only things I managed while in labour, as I couldn't bear to eat a lot but got a good shot of energy.

Have been really overdoing it the last few days. We went to ikea yesterday and bought lots of new stuff for DD's bedroom, and I was lugging wardrobes about, dismatling cot etc before thinking 'hmm, perhaps I shouldn't have done that'. I need to slow down, but it's hard with a 2.5 year old!

About the hospital bag, how many sets of clothes are you taking for the baby?

I'm sure last time round we just took one! And managed to get away with that.

But this time I'm more aware of how much babies can need a change of clothers (e.g. from puking!) Also will the baby be a "tiny baby" size, a "newborn" size or massive and into "0-3" from the start (like DS was)? And what if we have to stay in more than a day?

Maybe I should pack an extra bag in case we have to stay longer than a day and leave it in the car for DP to bring in if we need it.

Am I overthinking this?! Grin

aufaniae · 04/02/2013 11:48

Interesting. According to my antenatal class, we're not pregnant for 9 months, we're pregnant for 10 cycles. So our baby's gestation length depends on what the length of our natural cycle was.

So that's why the Mumsnet due-date calculator asks for your cycle length.

According to the calculator, my due date is April 13th not 11th.
(I knew this before, but I didn't know why).

I wonder which is the more reliable estimate, scan dates or 10 cycles?

The two dates are only a couple of days apart for me, but if I go overdue, they'll make decisions on when to induce based on the date, so could make a difference I guess.

Hi all my boy is 8 1/2 weeks old today :) he's just been weighed and is 3lbs 2oz and has had a great weekend, he is so hungry! I can't seem to stop crying or smiling I think its starting to hit me, everything.
I have physio this afternoon, Alex could be well enough to come home by mid march and at this rate he is gonna be ready before I am!
I hope everyone is well? Random question but has anyone seen any black baby grows on their travels?

aufaniae · 04/02/2013 12:51

That's brilliant news Mama, so pleased for you and your family :)

I know Stardust do very cool black babygrows (with designs on them) - however - warning! Not cheap! Grin

All of these come with a black option I think.

They also have personalised versions I love the cassette one.

Mama1980 · 04/02/2013 12:58

Thanks so much aufanaie Grin they are amazing! I may have just ordered several (oops Grin) I love the black vampire one and got the cassette one too, and the red rock play suit. My dd is kinda into the gothic/emo look, though she hates all labels laughing typical teen, and is looking at all the more unusual baby stuff she's going to love these.
Really appreciate the help Thanks

Mama1980 · 04/02/2013 12:59

Oooooh and just got the punk striped pyjamas for ds1 Grin

aufaniae · 04/02/2013 13:15

Ah, happy to help! Great aren't they.

"I may have just ordered several" hee hee Grin

Trishstar · 04/02/2013 15:06

He's growing really well. Urine good, bloods were perfect she was surprised at how good my iron levels still are!! He is lying transverse so he's not head down anymore. He was a bugger for the Doppler tho. Took ages to get the heartbeat n he kicked the Doppler again!

Trishstar · 04/02/2013 15:08

Meant to say at start of that, that just had a MW appt! xxx

usernamegoeshere · 04/02/2013 16:33

Sneezy I hope you are ok

so Floss do we have another April baby already yet? or still keeping in there?

I nearly got the sainsburys Huggies offer today, but decided at last minute that it was a bit heavy for all the walking I needed to do, I did pick up half price tomee tippee closer to nature bottles though, planning to breastfeed but really keen to get on with expressing a feed or 2 as soon as reasonably possible so those bottles look ideal. They also have half price on the Tomee Tippee breast pump but no stock.

Hurray Mama! Great news.

Thanks for the good wishes, people. Well my MW, who was supposed to be here at 9am, actually arrived at 11.30 (as I was about to leave for work) Angry

Despite this baby being big I'm not actually measuring over, so he must be well tucked up! BP was up, but I think the 2.5 hour delay may be responsible. MW now going on hols so I'm back on BP checks at the hospital.

Hope everyone else is ok!

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 04/02/2013 17:45

Hi all. Good to see news...especially fantastic news about Alex's progress. Can't believe he's up to 3lb already! What a star :) hope the physio went ok for you.

Well a bit behind the times we have finally chosen a travel system. We picked the babystyle oyster. We needed something that folded quite small (my car is a Polo!) and it had everything I we wanted - one handle, option of car seat attaching to base, isofix base (undecided if we'll get that yet), rear facing carrycot and forward facing later so I am a happy bunny. Kiddicare is absolutely amazing! :)

Trishstar · 04/02/2013 18:36

Havingalittlefaithbaby!!! We've got the babystyle oyster. Did you have the oyster Carseat or are you getting a different one?

What colour pack have you gone for?

I literally put mine all together without even looking at instructions! So easy!!!!

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 04/02/2013 18:48

Trish we got the basic black carrycot set up and chose the red colour pack - it was a toss up between that and the grey! I loved the purple but hopefully this might be used for DC2 in the future so I wanted something neutral! We bought the Britax car seat. It was obviously nice quality and fits directly on. Seems strange that it fits straight on when the oyster car seat needs extra attachments?! So I'm pretty happy! :)

Ps call me Faith if its easier!

MrsSimkins · 04/02/2013 19:28

Hey all,

Wow it all feels so soon now!

Teapig I bought a bag in argos for my hospital bag because its on wheels (incase i'm on my own and don't fancy carrying a heavy bag) and has a front pouch for hospital notes etc. Plus its zebra print so I LOVE it! Its supposed to be a flight bag so its a decent size and i'm sure I'll use it a lot so was worth the £34.99 I spent. So far I've put in a load of maternity pads (plus distilled witch hazel - thanks whoevers tip that was) , A cheapy dark coloured nightie and dressing gown (£5 each in peacocks!) a pair of slippers, A nicer nightie for after, a loose fitting comfy tracksuit for coming home, a few pairs of underwear, nipple pads and cream, and a wash bag with all the essentials (plus a dark coloured flannel and towel - a tip from a friend). I think I'll add some sweets and cereal bars too. I've packed my changing bag with nappies and outfits and stuff for baby so DH can bring it down to the hospital to save me taking it all.

Nursery is nearly ready and moses basket is on its way so i'm feeling very smug and organised (not a feeling I'm used to!) I was born at 32 weeks and my brother at 35 so I have convinced myself I'll give birth any day, I'm sure I won't but its certainly helped me get my butt in gear!

Lol ok Faith!!

I've just put down £100 deposit on the maxi cosi car seat and isofix base to use with the system. The red is nice! We only went with the ocean colour for little man as we don't mind buying a more girly colour if the need ever arises x

Ollibobs · 04/02/2013 19:49

Just a tip for all those buying car seats etc at Mothercare. Just found out that Mothercare price matches Amazon - where you can find the two of them for about 1/3 less. Shock

wishfulthinking1 · 04/02/2013 20:01

Ooooh- we've got the babystyle oyster as well- I love love LOVE it!

I'm in the 'have thought about a hospital bag but not packed it yet' camp- I'm sure I could round most things up if I needed to. The thing is, I only have a few pairs of maternity trousers- and I can't pack them, as I need them! So, this weekend ill hopefully pack most of it, with a list of last minute things on top!

We had our first nct class on Saturday- 5 couples altogether and everyone seemed really friendly. Have got breast feeding info evening tomorrow and midwife app on weds- it's all go!

I'm feeling strangely energised this evening- a very unusual feeling!!

Am v. Jealous of everyone finishing work- I've still got aaaaaaages to go!!

All this talk of pushchairs makes me think we need to decide what we are going to buy. I sold our Phil 'n' Teds over the weekend. I loved it when we needed it for DD2 and for DD1 to jump in and out of but now I want something with a carrycot and with a pushchair unit that faces backwards as well as forwards. But I also want it to fit a car seat that will then slot straight into the base in the car - I think this is all I want! I don't mind what colour - we don't know what we are having but this is definitely going to be the last DC for us. So I guess I also want something that will sell on well too.

I tend to carry DC in a sling most of the time but we need a buggy as an option and DP is not such a baby-wearer. Well, he is but he has always used a structured carrier whereas i just wrap and go!

On a totally different note, I saw the MW today and am exactly borderline for Gestational Diabetes. There was no flag on the screen and no one had contacted me so her initial thought was that they had decided to just leave it and see if any other markers came up. There was no glucose in my wee and the other MW who was there, they often work in pairs, said it must be fine.

However, MW1 - who has been my MW through DD1 and DD2 - decided to call the diabetes clinic there and then because of the likelihood of DC3 coming early like my other two.

So that changed everything - now they are referring me to the diabetes clinic and I will get a call tomorrow to set up an appointment. The I will have to see the consultant - again, as I am already high risk with my spontaneous preemies - and then they will refer me to a dietician to go through foods to eat and avoid etc.

Then we will have a chat about when I could start expressing - MW2 thought probably about 36 weeks.

Then we were discussing the likelihood that they will not want me to go to term and will look to induce at around 38 weeks.

MW1 found this rather funny - as though I will still be carrying this DC at 36 weeks, yet alone 38! I did say that surely it was possible and she said that, of course, it was possible, but realistically it is very unlikely. I am now seeing the MW every 2 weeks and will have extra scans until DC puts in an appearance.

A quick bit of research with Dr Google seems to show that the increased hormones is likely to be the cause of GD, especially oestrogen and progesterone. And of course, I am 'taking' daily progesterone pessaries in a research project to try to avoid premature delivery. Looks like a rock and a hard place Hmm

Still, only 14 work days to go and 3 of them should be at home and 1 is an INSET day. And then there looks like being more time off for antenatal appointments....

But it is so good to read about everyone else's days - and especially to see how well Alex is doing Mama - imagine him being ready to go home next month Smile Have they given any idea about when they expect you to be able to head home? What will/would happen to Alex if he is ready before you?

Dysgu · 04/02/2013 20:08

Sorry for such a mememe post - I just thought that even with all the extra risks this time I was doing so well..... and then that pesky GTT goes and trips me up!

Fluffeh · 05/02/2013 07:52

Aww how well is Alex doing? It's fantastic! I can't believe he's 8 weeks old and 3lb already. Fantastic news on his possible home coming too :).

Had my gtt yesterday. I think it was probably dehydration but I was so sick afterwards. The drink was awful bit for 3 hours I was fine and as soon as I got home I couldn't stop vomiting. Couldn't even keep water down. I slept most of the afternoon and went to bed at 8pm only waking at 3am. I must have tired myself out vomiting lol.

I have my first growth scan on Thursday yay!
Does anyone else's baby run from the Doppler? Whenever a mw tries to listen to the baby she wriggles away pushing her self as far down into my pelvis as she can. The mw I saw yesterday thinks it could be the loudness of it. She never minds the ultrasound so it can't be the poking.

Trishstar · 05/02/2013 08:12

Yep my mr runs away from the Doppler at MW appt but I find him straight away on my one at home!

The MW's Doppler always seems to be really noisy with inference sounds whereas mine is clear, maybe they can hear the noise and hide!
