Hi everyone,

and congrats to all who have had positive scan news. It's great that we are now really in the scan zone, must be nearly the end of the first trimester Smile

Hope Oxford that you have good news on the bloods - will be thinking of you

I've not been on for a while as I'm just literally worn out, washed out and blinking exhausted ALL of the time. Actually starting to feel a tiny bit better today so fingers crossed.

I'm finding wait for scan hard, but at least there's just a week to go now so hopefully I'll have good news to share too in just over a week Grin

probably tmi but I'm really suffering with constipation and related piles, so much so that have been bleeding a bit from down there which is both sore and unpleasant - Blush - the joys of early pregnancy

I am going crazy

Hi all

Sorry, I've been MIA for a while - around 9.5 weeks my symptoms slowly started dissappearing, and although I was very glad not to be feeling so sick and not quite so tired, I was very nervous, and found that logging in and seeing others who have sadly left the thread just made me panic more, so I had to ban myself for a few weeks.

Fortunately, I am now 13+1, had my 12 week scan last week - everything looks good, and am measuring spot on for dates. It was very emotional to see the bean waving at us - it's been such a long journey for us, and even after the scan I had to keep checking the picture to reassure myself!

We've started to tell friends and family, and it's actually all starting to feel real now! I got out of the shower last night and DH said 'wow, you're belly's starting to get bigger!' - exciting, but I had just eaten a rather large dinner, so not sure how much of it was baby!

I'm starting to feel less tired, so am hoping that I'm starting to turn the corner into that 2nd trimester energy burst that I keep reading about!

zippyrainbowbrite · 23/01/2013 15:40

Sorry, mean't to add, fingers crossed for those having a worrying time... I didn't mean my post to be all me me me!

Mrsd77 · 23/01/2013 16:21

Hi all.

I too have been lurking for a while, panicking about scans etc. Happy to say I had my scan this morning and all looked well. No NT measurement though as youngun wouldn't keep still. It seems this one is already quite spirited!

I am going back before next Friday for them to have another go. Dates have also changed and I am much further along than I thought.

If someone could add me to the stats I would appreciate it as on the iPad.

Dc2 due August 1st.

So good to hear the good news from others and lots of good wishes to those who have it less plain sailing.

12+6

LexiLoganberryBump · 23/01/2013 16:26

I feel for those of you having to wait so long for your blood results, I thought they did the tests and gave you your combined risk factor (is that the right term?) at the scan, thought you were unlucky to have to wait didn't realise this was the norm.
I've been a bit stressy about the scan and thought/hoped I'd feel better after it but looks like I'll just have something else to focus on and worry about.

I haven't got a date for my scan yet, I know it differs from area to area but wondered how long before the scan date they send the appointment letter out, dh works odd shifts and I'd like as much notice as possible so he can switch shifts or take holiday

I'm 9+3

wavesandsmiles · 23/01/2013 16:57

Hi lexi I got my scan date through about 2 weeks before my scan date I think - again this varies from area to area I understand.

I am feeling Confused as I have had an appointment to see the obstetrician next week. No idea why, and when I called to change it (back to back client meetings next Monday morning) they said I have to be seen next week. My BMI is about 21, I had 2 normal pgs, delivered naturally with no intervention apart from DD being induced (my health issues). I don't seem to have any high risk indicators so I am really perplexed, unless it could be to do with previous depression? Seems weird to me, and not sure what they want to see me about, especially as scan was fine.... I might phone them again tomorrow and find out why I need the appt....

FoofFighter · 23/01/2013 17:21

Had my glucose tolerance test. MW weren't impressed I was there at the hosp and couldn't understand why and kept questioning me as if I had done something wrong?! I don't know said I, I was told my booking bloods were dodgy and needed this and my MW arranged it, call her if there's a problem! they kept saying you shouldn't be here till 28weeks! Almost didn't get it in the end but i just said look I have been referred I have taken the day off work to be here, I am just here as I was told to be etc etc kept asking me questions about my booking bloods, had I just eaten etc well it was about an hour after lunch, unless I am wrong booking bloods shouldn't be fasting ones should they?!

Anyway they gave in and did it. "seeing as I was there anyway..."

Horrid horrid thick gloppy oily orange shite I had to drink, felt ok during the two hour wait, read my newspaper and mags, sitting in a reclining chair in a room on my own, nice and peaceful :) unless you count the fact that they were shouting patient.s personal business across the corridors to one another and who had phoned and why in detail Shock I hate this dept anyway, it's where the scanning is done too and I find them very brusque verging on the bitchy. I really hope the MW up in delivery are a bit nicer otherwise i shall be making a run for it with babies head between my legs!!

Walked back into the town after, felt fine, got to town and BOOM, felt dizzy, shaky, hot, sick, felt like my legs wouldn't work, had to go to nearest cafe for a drink of apple juice and biscuit and a sit down till I felt a bit better, then went and got a sandwich for lunch a bit after that and went home and have slept all afternoon, still feeling a bit urhg now.

Got to ring for results tomorrow.

FoofFighter · 23/01/2013 17:22

forgot to add, so if you have to have the GTT at any point, recommend going straight to the hospital cafe and eating something protein and carby asap, and to not drive unless you have to, I can only imagine if I was driving what could have happened as i felt about to pass out.

FoofFighter · 23/01/2013 17:24

waves look in your notes, it might say in there? they should have discussed this with you though, although they didn't with me, I just read it in my notes Angry

JollyRedGiant · 23/01/2013 18:05

I don't get my first consultant appointment until 30 weeks. Funny how things are so different in different health authorities. I'm not fussed - I just have consultant care because I'm having a section. No other reason.

MW appointment today. Took blood. Nothing else to report except my nausea has, fingers crossed, reduced a lot over the past couple of days.

RugBugs · 23/01/2013 19:53

Zippy your post made me tear up a bit, damn hormones!

Has anyone seen the post in AIBU about summer born babies?

zippyrainbowbrite · 23/01/2013 20:33

rug that's one symptom that I've definitely still got - I just cried my way though a whole episode of OBEM!

foof I'm booked to have the glucose test due to a family history of diabetes, but mine isn't until May, which will be 28 weeks. The letter I've got for it says I can't eat anything after 10pm the night before, as the tests have to be done on an empty stomach?! How frustrating for you if it has to be redone due to them giving you the wrong info!

FoofFighter · 23/01/2013 21:01

Zippy this was was done fasting yes, but the mw at the hosp was implying my booking bloods should have been fasting??

Got a bit of a pulled muscle/stitch feeling going on in my groin :/ assuming it's growing/shifting uterus twinges.
Away to watch One Born :)

LexiLoganberryBump · 23/01/2013 21:07

Thanks waves, if our area is the same as yours then it should be coming soon. I hope so.

foof that's rubbish the way you were questioned, you'd of thought if they wanted to know why you were there they'd of just phoned your mw like you said she'd be able clear it up for them and you.

jolly I will apparently be meeting my consultant at the same time as my 12 week scan, then hopefully I won't have to see him/her again or to often.

LexiLoganberryBump · 23/01/2013 21:21

rugbugs Do you remember what the summer babies thread was called, I can't find it.

FoofFighter · 23/01/2013 21:52

I really wouldn't read it in case you get upset, a lot of bollocks conjecture about how far behind our babies will be Hmm

Briarrosy · 23/01/2013 22:08

Not in Scotland! It's November school cutoff apparently.

Not that it matters, my sister and I were both late August and we were both more or less top of our year. Only frustrating thing I remember was being last to be allowed into Brownies Sad

FoofFighter · 23/01/2013 22:12

Up here (Moray) just searched for this years, which will obv be roughly the same dates in 20whenver they start it says :

A child will normally start Primary 1 in August 2013 if his/her fifth birthday falls between 1st March 2013 and 28th February 2014.

If the child?s fifth birthday falls between 21st August 2013 (the day after the school term starts) and 28th February 2014, a parent may wish to delay starting Primary 1 until the following August when the child will be 5½ years old. This is known as ?deferring entry?. All parents requesting a deferred entry must discuss this with their current pre-school centre and their possible primary school.

Stopsittingonyoursister · 23/01/2013 22:49

Ooh Mrsd77 we have the same due date!

Congrats on your lovely scan chocolate, sounds very peaceful and relaxed.

foof the GTT sounds awful. My MW was umming and ahhing about whether to send me for a GTT test because DD was 9lb 7 and apparently 9lb 4+ is indicative of gestational diabetes (never had any concerns in DD's pg). I explained that my DH is 6' 4", my DS was 8lb 9.5 and we just generally have big babies, and when I got my notes back at the 12 week scan, I noticed that she had crossed everything out about DD's weight. Apparently, one indicator is craving sweet and sugary foods, and I am the complete opposite.

rugbugs don't worry about your baby's school career being blighted by being born in the summer. Both my children are born in May so theoretically some of the youngest in the year. DS is the brightest boy in his class, reading age of a 9 year old at the age of 5, and an absolute superstar, and DD is looking to be going the same way (although she isn only 2). It used to be a disadvantage when schools kept summer born children off school until the Easter term whereas Autumn born children had two additional terms of learning, but all of that has gone, and DS started school in the September along with every other child in his year regardless of the time of year he was born, and is doing really well. If you support them, give them lots of interesting activities and encourage them in their school work, that is all they need to do as well as a child born in the Autumn.

Apologies for the rant (and the not-so-stealth boast about my DS!) but I am the child of teachers and the sister of a teacher so I get a bit sick of all the negative comments!!

waves I hope you get the details of your appointment soon. Perhaps it is just a routine appointment and you need to be seen next week to fit in with their schedules? Hope your work calms down a bit soon, that all sounds exhausting!

DaveMccave · 23/01/2013 22:59

As I said on the other thread, my DD does suffer from being the youngest in her class and She's June. So I am concerned. We don't all have academic kids, and if their not academic, they do suffer from the early start. All the countries that start formal schooling at 6 or 7 have much higher education standards. Just turned 4 is awful to me. Will probably home school this one though.

Stopsittingonyoursister · 23/01/2013 23:13

Dave I completely understand and agree that life is not all about being "bright", the social side is extremely important as well, of course it is. But I also agree with posters who pointed out that it is enough to have a baby full stop, whatever their birth month, and all the negativity I hear about summer born babies just makes me cross sometimes. I hope your DD is OK; are you planning to home school her as well and have them both at home?

ScubaSarah · 24/01/2013 07:13

Hi all. Been hectic at work so minimal MN time the last day or two.
Great news on scans zippy and mrsd good luck next fri!
waves good luck re: next week. I had appt this week. Apparently they give you early consultant appt here if you have 2 or more risk factors. So >40 and1st DC is enough. They randomly added that Mum had high blood pressure (after 55yo and not PG related) so I have 3 risk factors and despite having BP of 110/70 I've been prescribed aspirin! Shock if I bleed out while brushing my teeth it's been lovely knowing you!! Wink

I was reading a little about summer babies, what do people think about deferring? It feels hard to keep DC back from her peers in Pre-school but would make her/him oldest rather than youngest?

Have a great day everyone x

JollyRedGiant · 24/01/2013 07:47

The system in England does bother me. I can't imagine sending a just 4 year old to school. DS will be 5.4 when he goes and DC2 will be just 5 depending on when exactly they're born (and when the school year starts in 2018). But I think reception year is similar to Scotland's pre-school nursery year and our Primary 1 is equivalent to year 1.

I was a March birthday so one of the eldest in my year. My sisters are November and had deferred entry so they were nearly 6 when they started primary 1. You need LA agreement to defer in Scotland, but I don't think there's a great deal they can do if the child is not taking up a pre-school nursery place (and so costing the LA money).

Anyway, it's a bit late now for us to be worrying about this as our babies will be born when they're born!

RugBugs · 24/01/2013 08:59

I disappeared to the bath last night! Took advantage of DD having settled easily!

I'm a (late) May baby too and never had problems academically, was in top 10% at secondary. I don't understand the 'years saving of child care costs'? EY funding starts the term after 3rd birthday so for us September 2016, so they get less time in nursery?

DDs nursery is school-based, so both DC will be in that setting at three.

My Sister gave birth at 1am this morning! 40+11 and 7lb 8!
