Where I live...nowhere except New Look sells Maternity clothes..... even though it's literally the teenage pregnancy capital of the universe.... which means buying online, but you can't try it on...

TomDaleysTrunks · 21/01/2013 17:46

I agree, It's majorly annoying about the lack of maternity clothes around. I keep ordering things online then returning them. I did get some bargains in mamas and papas sale though.

Abzs · 21/01/2013 17:52

I happened to be in town last week - rare these days - so went to New Look and Next. We have two of each of these stores, and of course sod's law dictates that maternity wear is only stocked in the other ones...

The other choices would be H&M, who had a sign up suggesting maternity stock but none visible and Mothercare who are in an almost out of town retail park I never have cause to visit.

16 week appt with midwife tomorrow. Hoping the wind calms down and it doesn't snow overnight (we've hardly any just now).

Devilforasideboard · 21/01/2013 17:52

TomDaleysTrunks Just wanted to say I love your username. Made me giggle Grin Nowhere in the town I work in sells maternity gear but that's probably a good thing as it's stopping me going mad in my lunch break.

DH is making me sign up for NCT classes as I don't really know anyone here. There's a possibility he'll be away for 6 months when the baby's small so I guess he has a point.

I was 14+5 at my midwife appt and heard the heartbeat. She did warn me beforehand not to panic if she couldn't find it but it was there loud and clear.

BadMissM · 21/01/2013 18:33

Okay ladies...if any of you are actually in my neck of the woods, (North Lancs/South Cumbria) then there's a new mums/mums-to-be meet up planned for 10 February, 10.30am at The Novel Cafe in Lancaster

You can join the group here: local.mumsnet.com/lancashire/group-meet-ups/north-lancs

SlouchingPanda · 21/01/2013 18:57

Hi Team July!

Been lurking but not posting - not much going on for me at this stage of pregnancy, so feel a bit boring really.

We have booked NCT classes... I too am medical, so not expecting to learn a lot in terms of how birth works (although DH not medical so will be good for him), but I am clueless as to what you actually do with a baby Blush so hopefully will be learning lots there! Also v keen to meet other parents nearby.

TomDaleysTrunks I have very much enjoyed watching you on "Splash!" on a Saturday evening [shameless love of shit telly emoticon] Grin.

Now to the really stupid important question... as a first timer, what can I expect from my belly button? At 15+4 I don't have much of a bump yet, but it sort of looks different Confused. Will it definitely pop out? When? Any advice on this issue of earth shattering importance gratefully received.

Lovely to hear of all the July heartbeats!

Supershiv1 · 21/01/2013 19:01

TomDaleysTrunks I've been put back 10 days so far so we are due date partners. I haven't changed the list yet in case it changes again (started as 17th, then 23rd, now 27th).
Where in Wales are you?

dinkystinky · 21/01/2013 19:03

Wait for 35 weeks Slouching - most likely for belly button pop before bump drops...

OP posts:
Devilforasideboard · 21/01/2013 19:07

Um, I'm slightly embarrassed to ask this but can you feel it when your belly button 'pops'?

emblosion · 21/01/2013 19:11

Ha, dinky beat me to it, but slouching my belly button popped out at about 35 weeks last time, much to dh's horror (it's gone back to an inny now though) :)

VinegarDrinker · 21/01/2013 19:22

Mine never popped out, just kind of stretched flat last time. He was born at 38+5 though so maybe if he'd stayed in longer it would have! DS1 is oddly obsessed with my belly button, it'll really freak him out if it pops out!

AmaDablam · 21/01/2013 19:29

Hi everyone

Team July - love that Slouching! I can't say my belly button looks different yet (I just checked just in case!) but my tummy has suddenly gone very hairy over the last couple of weeks Blush. I think this is on the "normal" list...Fortunately it's very fair so I don't feel like too much of a gorilla and no one other than DH and the midwife are going to be seeing it anyway!

Quinn I joined up with NCT classes as soon as I knew everything was OK at the 12 week scan. As a rather nervous first timer I knew I wanted to do some kind of class and a number of friends had said the rather extortionate fees were the "best money they ever spent". I know £200+ quid is a lot of money but I figured I could forgo some other luxuries such as an extensive maternity wardrobe! I may do the NHS one as well but I want to find out if they do a tour of the labour ward as part of it, or if you can do that as a stand alone thing, as that's the main thing I'd want to go for. Making local friends is also a big draw of the NCT one, which is just up the road, whereas I don't think the NHS one would be local, given that the hospital where I'm booked to give birth is in a different town (and county!)

Started up with horrible lower back pain today that had me wincing every time I got up out of my chair. I really hope it's not a sign of things to come - I've only got a miniscule bump and am still struggling to put weight on, so I dread to think what it might be like when I'm bigger. Hey ho, maybe it's not even pg related and I slept in a funny position or something. On a positive note I really do think my MS is starting to go - I even cleared my plate at dinner tonight! Really sorry to hear there are still a few who are suffering, especially mystery being poorly at the same time Sad.

14+1

dinkystinky · 21/01/2013 19:42

Not really Devil - its just lots of pressure against your skin and so the belly button pops to make that tiny bit more space. Though some dont pop (like Vinegar). And it does return to an inny post birth.

Ama - try pregnancy yoga or pilates. Now is the time to start to strengthen your back and correct your posture.

AmaDablam · 21/01/2013 19:54

Thanks dinky, have been desperately trying to find a pg yoga/pilates class locally that doesn't break the bank and/or lets people join part way through a "term". Am thinking of resorting to a dvd and trying it at home - any recommendations would be gratefully received Smile

esme80 · 21/01/2013 19:56

Ama was just going to say what dinky already mentioned, I got a pregnancy yoga dvd and find it does help w back pain, at least at the moment...

AmaDablam · 21/01/2013 20:02

Ooh which one esme?

esme80 · 21/01/2013 20:11

Will post name of dvd tom morning. Forgive me if I sound terribly lazy/unhelpful bit am tucked up warm in bed and too lazy to go downstairs...

AmaDablam · 21/01/2013 20:19

No worries esme - I'm feeling too lazy to look for it on Amazon tonight anyway!! Sleep well.

dinkystinky · 21/01/2013 20:40

Right - 10 minute prenatal pilates DVD is supposed to be good. I had a pregnancy pilates one for both before and after birth - by Lindsay something. Lent it to SIL amend not got it back yet. Have a pregnancy yoga app which is good for quick exercises in the mornings if stiff. Also exercise ball - sit in it and roll round in circles and figure of eight- great for loosening up lower back.

Grannyapple · 21/01/2013 21:42

Hi ladies...I've had lower back pain with a pain that travels through my left bum cheek. Spoke to SIL (she's a mw)..she thinks it might be sciatica & suggested asking mw for referral to maternity physio. But I need to get the birthing ball back out again this w/e me thinks. Bit just thought it might be worth a mention for others who think they might be suffering from something similar.

Snow has been awful here...& only in SE London! Can't drive car in this stupid weather (rear wheel drive car) so dropped ds at nursery via 2 buses & worked from home today....II forget how long it can take to travel less than 2 miles on public transport for what is otherwise a 10 min car journey! But was bloody freezing today....will be jumping on train or bus tomorrow to work as street is like an ice rink!

dinkystinky · 21/01/2013 21:48

Granny - careful on those Lucy roads tomorrow. It does sound like sciatica - did you have it last time round?

OP posts:
dinkystinky · 21/01/2013 21:48

Fricking auto correct - ICY roads....

Loving the NCT advice as I'm a first timer and was wondering how god they were if they were worth the cost

I made my first baby purchase at the weekend: a lovely change bag from Cath Kidston- decided it was aloud as really good bargin in the sale and very pretty!

I want to get a sling too- when some of you have mentioned sling groups/libraries where ate they? How do I find out about them? Sound like some secret club... .

Cheeseandbread · 21/01/2013 22:23

Allowed not aloud... Baby brain...

Where are not where ate...

Cheeseandbread · 21/01/2013 22:24

Good not God... Time for sleep I think
