Hi everyone, I've not posted for quite a while - although have been reading all of you posts regularly..loads of topics being discussed on here at the moment so just wanted to add my bit..

Heartburn - I've been suffering any time I eat too much and have taken the Boots own brand peppermint equivalent to Gaviscon (liquid)..tastes vile but seems to do the trick.

Shopping - been on a bit of a splurge the last couple of weeks and made the most of the sales on baby clothes. Got some lovely half price things from Next, Cath Kidston and The White Company (would never pay full price at the last 2 mentioned). All other clothes will be given or supermarket basics. Also bought cot bed -John Lewis Alex Cotbed, a Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle(in the sale with free carrycot and raincover). Have been given rocker, nappy bin, moses basket, bottle warmer, several baths and the promise of lots of baby clothes to come. Seem to spending all the time and still to buy car seat, fedding equipment, bedding, mattress plus all the misc.little things!

Maternity leave..planning to leave at 38 weeks plus or minus a few days depending on whether I can come to some agreement on being paid the bank holidays whilst on leave. I live in Channel Islands where there is no maternity law so given there are 5 bank holidays in April/May when everyone else gets a paid day off..I want to be paid for these too!

Bump - feels huge but measured fine at last appoitment but also feel I've put on too much extra weight (total 20lbs at 27 weeks). The last week or so my appetite reduced quite a bit and now really making an effort with exercise and cutting out crap so hopefully this will curb the unnecessary extra weight gain.

Names - I've chose the name..had the same name and middle name in mind since 12 weeks and I haven't gone off it and can't imagine using any other name now. DP took a bit of convincing but now loves it too!

Bext I went on a babymoon to Barbados a few weeks ago at 22 weeks and the sun did me the world of good. The flight was fine although I was less tolerant of the heat than I usually am. I'm flying out to Australia on Friday for 2 weeks on a work trip and will be 28weeks flying out. I'm not worried about the flight but do need to get a dr/midwife letter for travel after 28 weeks confriming due date and no complications which I am due to get tomorrow. I would be extra careful with travel insurance..a lot of policies don't cover you after 30 weeks..mine didn't and cover can be limited to emergency birth only with no aftercare for you or the baby which could be very expensive if baby is premature. Found a good policy through Ravenhall specifically aimed preganant women for £47.

Sorry for the extra long post!

leluella · 08/01/2013 15:27

Sorry..posted huge message twice in error!

Fluffeh · 08/01/2013 16:57

Glad your home faith and baby is good too!

My new anti avid heartburn tactics started today. No potato, no white rice/pasta, no tomatoes and nothing oily, greasy or sweet. So I've eaten cereal twice lol
I'm going to recipe hunt tonight and find tasty, non carb intense meals.

photochick · 08/01/2013 18:13

hey leluella im a fellow channel islander! Are you Gsy or Jsy?
How are you finding the lack of shopping choice? Did John Lewis deliver your cot and did you claim back the VAT? sorry lots of Q's!
We are planning a trip to Poole next month to get a few more things - its not quite Barbados!!

Giddypants · 08/01/2013 18:18

Is anyone getting kicks in their bum region? Blush

EssexWelsh · 08/01/2013 19:17

Evening ladies, glad to hear all was fine faith.

Today has been eventful. After about 8 weeks of minor pelvic pain, last week it got so intense couldn't move and was sofa bound surrounded by pillows for 3 days, did the trick so went back to work yesterday but after a hectic day yesterday was in agony again so today met with head teacher who was truly amazing, she also had SPD in her pregnancy, I am adamant I do not want to go off sick, so she suggested that she change my job description so I can do all my job from home up until my maternity leave! Am still in agony but feel so happy about the arrangement, only thing to get over is the guilt that I am being a bit rubbish, but have to reassure myself I literally can't walk, wincing in pain so at least doing some work, albeit it in my pjs! Grin

Dysgu · 08/01/2013 19:22

Giddypants I do occasionally get kicks in odd places and then wonder if it is the baby or whether it is just my body twitching. My baby is lying right across me at the moment according to the MW yesterday so it kicks and tickles all over the place.

All this talk of shopping makes me think we should be looking to buy some more stuff - today the baby sleeping bags arrived (and they are currently all being worn by DDs' toys Grin )

The Next baby catalogue arrived yesterday with lots of lovely stuff inside. We are saving a HUGE amount of money though as so much seems to be very PINK or BLUE and so we are buying nothing specific until the baby arrives and we know what colour it is!

I have just counted up that I have 33 working days to go until I finish - which DD1 is very happy about. I think she is more excited about me being able to do the school runs and do stuff like that.

Ollibobs · 08/01/2013 19:24

That's great news Essex! You must be so relieved. What an understanding boss!

I stupidly ran for the train this morning and I am really feeling it this evening I am really regretting it. I'm so sore! I don't know what I was thinking... What an idiot I am!

Dysgu · 08/01/2013 19:32

Essex that sounds great. I know you can't help feeling guilty but remember, you will still be working. I was an assistant head before/when I was pregnant with DD1 - my job was rewritten so that I did not have any class responsibility. The plan was that I was going to spend the last two months before going off on ML writing policies and other paperwork - which actually worked out really well as I was still doing it when DD1 arrived at 32 weeks!

EssexWelsh · 08/01/2013 19:50

Everyone keeps teasing me dysgu that I'll go early but fingers crossed not as early as you!

toobreathless · 08/01/2013 19:56

Dysgu you have excellent taste as our bump (DD2) will also be Celeste! :) ongoing middle name discussions.

I had my 28 week MW appt today, measuring 27 weeks despite feeling huge. I'm all done now till 34 weeks except for the whooping cough vaccine.

Oodles of sympathy to all those struggling with SPD, I'm very lucky to have none of that. My biggest problem is lugging my toddler round. She is not a fan of walking too far or the buggy at present. Had a lovely moment last night when I asked her 'Wheres the baby?' and she poked my bump !

Faith glad you are out of hospital, hope you have caught up with some sleep.

EmpressMatilda · 08/01/2013 21:10

Giddy Yes I get that too. Weird, isn't it?!

Novia I am starting my mat leave on 18th March but actual last day will be 12th as will use a few days of annual leave. So pretty much the same as you. Really hating my job at the moment so longing to leave. Did think of finishing earlier but DH lost his job recently so I reckoned I'd better hold on. My commute is very similar to yours as well. 35 minute walk to the station (though DH often gives me a lift), 45 minute train journey, then 10 minute walk to the office at the end. I had never realised what a long and tiring day it makes until I got pregnant! I am coping OK but had some issues in the past with having to stand up on crowded trains and then fainting. I do look pregnant now though so always get a seat these days.

Other than the usual (tiredness, insomnia, achy wrists, indigestion, thrush...) I am doing OK and thankful that baby is well and that I've avoided any of the big painful stuff. It's just frustrating juggling the baby excitement with the long drawn out winter months and just wanting work to be over! I am considering getting a calendar to put on the wall just so I can cross each day off! I hate being like this and wishing my life away!

Dysgu · 08/01/2013 22:42

I am also considering using the calendar as a countdown EmpressMatilda - with only 33 work days to go, I think DD1 is going to be doing the counting down for me! I also have the half term holiday in between that too although might actually find myself going into work that week sometime to get my classroom sorted and all my files organised for handing over to my replacement as I can't see where I am going to have the time to do it before.

I know what you mean toobreathless about lugging toddlers around. My TA dashed out to meet me coming into work this morning to insist on carrying my carrier bag of books that I was taking back in. She is lovely but I did point out that there are times when I have to lug my 6 year old around (not often and not for long or far) and she is much heavier and more awkward than a bag of exercise books - as is the 4 year old that still tries to get me to carry her upstairs (unsuccessfully!)

Dysgu · 08/01/2013 22:44

Also toobreathless are you planning on using a shorter version of Celeste at all? We are not 100% decided on the name (I think I am preferring Celestine and we may totally change our minds anyway and it might be a boy) but I am thinking Cece...

toobreathless · 08/01/2013 23:09

Dysgu we are thinking of using the nn Essie within our family, mainly as I suspect DD (20 months at present) may pronounce it 'Lestie' as pointed out by someone on the baby names thread. I suspect she will mainly be Celeste. Celestine is lovely.

Trishstar · 09/01/2013 00:39

Have you all seen this yet? Tom from McFly's wedding "speech".

I cried watching it on the bus to work this morning! I fully blame the pregnancy hormones!!!

Missmuffet28 · 09/01/2013 00:54

Well I had my physio today and now I am laying here in agony :(

My pelvis is wonky my muscles in my groin and the ones joining my belly to my pelvis are extremely tight and lumpy which don't help she was apparently massaging these by poking her bony fingers in and wriggling them around which has left some nice bruising... And the pelvis exercises including me laying on bed knees up her with her palms between my knees pushing them out and me pushing in and then BAM she split my legs really quickly making me take off the bed and nearly through the ceiling (slight exaggeration but felt like it at time) this is apparently called what she calls shotgun....she's lucky I did not have one to hand....

I'm to do these at home but I don't think I will be as tonight I can't walk I can't lay down I can't sleep and I'm miserable and uncomfortable, no tubi grip body sock for me or support belt you have to go back for these but I bet no one goes back for a second go!!!!

Missmuffet28 · 09/01/2013 00:57

Oh and sorry to disappoint ladies but apparently at 26+2 I'm still really early on in the pregnancy lol according to my lovely physiotherapist, who I might add wrote her name on my card and then scribbled her surname out because she had spelt it wrong...... Who can't spell their surname Shock

aufaniae · 09/01/2013 01:46

I've got my 28 week scan tomorrow, but I've just realised I've booked it wrong and it's 27 weeks. (27+1 by my dates / something like 27+3 by the scan date)

Should I rebook it or just go anyway do you think?

aufaniae · 09/01/2013 02:07

Oops! Sorry I meant my 28 week midwife appointment.
I'm not having a scan tomorrow!

Jsa1980 · 09/01/2013 06:06

Aufaniae - I've got my 28 week appointment today and I'm 27 + 5. Had my 24 week appointment last week! I don't know what's going on!

steph2412 · 09/01/2013 06:39

Aufaniae i would just keep your app you have to have bloods done at 28 week app but if they cant do them a couple of days early they will have you back. sainsburys have a baby event on the baby products have a third off its on all toiletries nappys work out quite cheap!I brought a 2nd hand steriliser of my cousin she only used it for a couple of weeks, and need new teats for bottles all these are on offer at sainsburys aswel!

Teapig · 09/01/2013 07:41

missmuffet, that sounds incredibly painful, take it very easy.

faith, glad you're out of hospital and home now. Get lots of rest.

Thanks for the heads up on the sainsburys baby event steph. We picked up a half price baby activity mat in the sale at tesco but I need to stop buying the 'fun' stuff and get some of the more practical bits like toiletries.

26 weeks today and my belly button is terrifyingly close to popping out, early in pregnancy my arse Wink

EssexWelsh · 09/01/2013 07:52

Just watched the vid Trishstar now considering ditching my DP for a member of McFly Grin

Missmuffet that sounds awful, I had such a better experience with my physio, she told me I shouldn't be 'spreading my legs' especially if painful so I'd be careful with any exercises she gives. You can buy maternity belts if you are desperate before a next appointment and they really are great!

Fluffeh · 09/01/2013 08:13

Ouch missmuffet that sounds really painful. I hope you got some sleep and feel less sore this morning.

Probably a silly question, I'm wanting to use reusable nappies from around 4 weeks (hopefully we'll be settled into some sort of normality by then) but disposables until then. Because I'll be having an ELCS I won't be able to run out for nappies in the first few days so was wondering how many I should buy to last a week or so? Although I have baby experience from family and friends I have no idea how many nappies a newborn might get through.
DP probably won't want to leave me with the baby while he pops to the supermarket as I don't feel confident enough to be left on my own with her. That might change once she's here but if we're prepared for worst case scenario it can only be better when it happens.
It's so scary thinking of all the practical aspects now.
