Argh all this talk of insomnia has clearly triggered something, last night I woke up at 4:30 and just couldn't get back to sleep. Was just so uncomfortable despite all sorts of pillow arrangements. And I'm so out of breath all the time too, even in bed. Think the little one must be sitting really high up and cutting off half my lung capacity! It was certainly wriggling like crazy last night/this morning, felt like it was trying to exit through my waist!
A snoring DP and a naughty kitten in my room probably didn't help either.
Sad
Might have to try a maternity pillow. Any good, inexpensive ones out there?

Missmuffet28 · 07/01/2013 09:05

Lutrinae Argos have just the plain old long thin one for 9.99 at the mo its my new best friend and is actually quite plump removable washable cover :)
Couldn't justify the 40-45 for the dream genii at the time

aufaniae · 07/01/2013 09:35

EssexWelsh Lovely name, but a friend of mine already nabbed it for her little girl!

The sleep problems sound awful Sad have you tried chamomile tea? (It's safe in pregnancy). Hope you get a better sleep tonight.

Lutrinae I hope that was a one off for you!

toobreathless also lovely names, but none is quite "the one". I absolutely love Eira, but it's too close to my best friend's little boy's name. Also really keen on Eleri, but DP isn't.

I find names really hard! I've only read one baby name book so far though. 7 more to go till I've read the same as I did for DS before finding one name.

aufaniae · 07/01/2013 09:39

Hee hee, I've got baby names on the brain! After I hit send I saw the words "Lutrinae Argos" in missmuffet's post and without meaning to, I instantly imagined a baby called Lutrinae Argos!

Don't think I'll be adding it to my list just yet though Grin

Does anyone else catch themselves checking out the names in TV / film credits for baby name inspiration?

BonaDea · 07/01/2013 09:52

aufaniae - tv credits, any book that I happen to read, mothers shouting after children in the supermarket - names on the brain for me too!

Missmuffet28 · 07/01/2013 10:41

I'm more worried that I haven't found the 'name' yet ds1 had a name before he was born and the fact that me and dp can't agree on any is stressing me out! I may have to invest in some books I guess I have only exhausted iPhone apps so far maybe books are different! At the mo I only have the discussion during labour/pushing card to play Grin
You guys really are coming up with some beautiful names for girls!

enjay0811 · 07/01/2013 10:43

aufaniae we found Dd1's name from film credits! Smile

I've been lookin at the baby name thread for inspiration but not brave enough to post, some replies r really harsh!

So, need your advice...so far we have -
Girls - Fleur, Bonnie, Iris
Boys - Flynn, Isaac, Max

We like names tht r not too popular (so maybe not Max? Isaac looks a popular choice atm too?) and currently have 2dd's Aurelia Rose and Poppy Jessica

Thanks x

usernamegoeshere · 07/01/2013 10:48

haha Faith no idea if it was the vicks on the feet or not but I slept a bit better last night. Am taking paracetamol regularly but it doesn't always seem to work on my temp & I keep ending up having to miss doses to keep within the 8 in 24 hour rule.

Celeste is a lovely name.

Glad you got checked out Teapig!

aufaniae · 07/01/2013 10:49

If anyone wants a baby name book recommendation, this was my favourite last time: The Penguin Dictionary of First Names.

I liked the detail it had, and it's where we found DS's name (finally!).

Now, where did I put my own copy of it? ...

PandaOnAPushBike · 07/01/2013 10:56

We're sort of settled on a name, but don't want to settle 100% just in case it doesn't suit him when he arrives. We're going for a mouthful: Jacob David St John. Jacob = a version of my dad's name, he died the month we conceived :(, David = his paternal great grandad's name who DH was really close to and still misses, St John = a middle name shared by most of the men on my husband's side.

PandaOnAPushBike · 07/01/2013 10:57

Writing that has made me cry :(

enjay0811 · 07/01/2013 11:11

panda love Jacob Smile middle names of our dd's are after grandparents. No idea what we're goin to choose if this one is a girl too!

steph2412 · 07/01/2013 11:21

Hi all glad everone seems well. I just cant fall asleep at the moment either managing to nod off around 2 am then not enjoying getting up at 6!i dont think i have much left to get for baby now just need to pay for my pushchair as only left a deposit! Its mainly just bits i need that can be picked up each week! i have my scan and consultant app in 2 weeks fx that my placenta has moved! 25+6 Today time seems to be flying by only 14 weeks to go and i may have baby early so less time to prepare!

lutrinae · 07/01/2013 11:25

Thanks MissMuffet, that sounds affordable, will definitely check it out.

aufaniae hope it was a one off too, my DP was also laughing in his sleep and I was just thinking 'it's all right for you!'. Exhausted today at work. Luckily nothing much happens on Mondays at my workplace as we're closed to the public.

No, I don't think Lutrinae Argos would make a great name. Unique though!

Right, was being coy before but going to get fully involved in the name talk.
enjay, I really like Fleur, Iris and Isaac - but I am a sucker for traditional names Smile

panda that's a lovely combo. Really like St. John as a middle name (was years before I realised it was pronounced 'Singen'), I've got a few ancestors named St George but don't think I'll be going for that, at least not as a first name.

So, mine tentatively are:
Boy= Arthur Stanley Jacques (pronounced 'Jakes' - all family/maiden names)
Girl = Isobel May Grace (or Grace May - can't decide). Would like May as a first name too and also like the version 'Ismay'. I'd actually like to go full Scottish and have 'Ishbel' but DP won't let me.

My dilemma is this: it's traditional in my family to have two middle names which I want to keep, but I'm also not giving up my surname for love nor money, so it will be double barrelled. Is this too many names??

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 07/01/2013 11:39

lutrinae for the amount they're used, I think it's ok to have two middle names and a double-barrelled surname although DC might be annoyed with you every time they fill in a form!

panda that sounds lovely :)

Glad you slept better username! Hopefully you're over the worst of it.

enjay they are all nice but I like Bonnie and Iris more. Isaac is nice but very popular!

We have a short list of: Audrey, Abigail and Naomi. Probably Faith as a middle name as we TTC'd for so long! DH's Nan wants us to use Winnie since its her NN. It's also my Grandma's name but I just can't bring myself to use it!

aufaniae · 07/01/2013 11:40

Ooh I love Ismay :)

DS has 4 names: Two first names, then my surname and then DP's. It's a bit of a mouthful sure, but I don't think it's a problem. When do you actually use your whole name? Hardly ever. DS has learnt his whole name though and likes saying it Grin

My best friend when I was little had 5 names - 3 first names then her mum's surname then her dad's. I was really jealous!

aufaniae · 07/01/2013 11:43

HavingALittleFaithBaby FWIW I know a Winnie in her 70s and she hates her name.

Naomi's my favourite out of your girl's names (although I know a grown up Abigail & Audrey and they're both lovely!)

Teapig · 07/01/2013 13:14

Wow there are some lovely name choices on here. lutrinae I love the name Isobel. My favourite girls and I'm gutted I can't use it as a really close friend has an Isobel.

fluffeh those bladder kicks don't sound fun, I shall be careful what I wish for when wishing for more kicks.

Totally unable to engage my brain in work today. All I can do is keep looking at my calendar and counting the weeks until maternity leave. I don't want to wish it away but can't wait to finish work.

PandaOnAPushBike · 07/01/2013 13:19

Totally random thought based on mention of Argos ...

We watched Clash of the Titans over Christmas with some Swedish friends. They thought we were completely bonkers when we started laughing hysterically at the gods saying they would unleash the Kraken to destroy Argos and all the people there. :o (We're easily entertained)

JessieEssex · 07/01/2013 15:31

Had my 28 week growth scan today, all was perfect and the consultant said we're on track for a 7 pounder! Saw the baby's face and little pouty mouth - was so cute.

Name wise we've chosen Penelope for a girl and Samuel for a boy. Hopefully they suit! We do have some second choices if they don't...

Giddypants · 07/01/2013 18:06

Went to a midwife drop in clinic today, I was cleaning the house yesterday and started getting stabbing type pains around my bump, it settled when I went to bed but when I got up again it's wasn't completely gone, and started to feel nauseas and a bit light headed, so thought I should get it checked out.

All measuring to date, good heart beat and movement, BP all ok, but said I need to take it easy no more cleaning and listen to my body. I was hurting but needed to get things sorted, so just pushed through it.

Still got a few niggly pains in my groins and feeling a bit sick but on the whole a bit better.
Midwife said it could be him getting head down and into position? And the cleaning just stretched my muscles a bit too far, sounds logical to me, so from now on DH has to do the cleaning Grin

28 week growth scan on Thursday, hoping to see a pouty mouth jessie

28+2

somewherebecomingrain · 07/01/2013 18:10

jacquelinehyde have you looked up maternity allowance? It's 568 a month for 9 months - for self employed people or employed people not eligible for smp
Xx

EssexWelsh · 07/01/2013 18:22

Well survived my first day-just! Had a physio appointment this arvo, which was really helpful, now in a full body girdle and support belt, wish we could add photos on here to give you all a laugh! At doctors now, to ask if there is anything else I can do for the pain and to ask if they will sigh me off for mornings only. Today has proved I can't go to work and take it easy, we are a very high paced Academy and I am Assistant Head and although my Head has been brilliant, it's almost impossible to not rush about when there, so got a meeting with the Head in the morning where I want to go with a medical note but compromise on me working in school in the morning and at home in the afternoon. That's the plan, hopefully this is agreed otherwise can see me taking time off which I am loathed to do, as hardly had a sick day in 4 years there, bit of a workaholic although can't wait for my upcoming 'holiday' Grin

Ollibobs · 07/01/2013 19:09

Essex what's this girdle and where did you get it? My groin had been so sore for weeks. It feels like my legs are being pulled apart and I'm going to snap like a wishbone! I do feel a bit better when I get DH to push my hips together, so wondering if your girdle would help? It's so much worse at night in bed - even with the DreamGeni pillow. The worse thing is, it's not like I can rub it in public! It's so sore!

Also, does anyone know if you can get paid for working your 'Keep in Touch' days? I know I can do 10 days, but am hoping they are paid... Can't see the point of them otherwise.
The money would definitely come in handy!

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 07/01/2013 19:13

Oli you need to see a physio - ask your GP to refer you.
