teapig I'm taking 3 weeks leave (ah the joys of April-April financial year!) then going off the day before my due date - unless bump turns up earlier then I'll add that to my leave at the end before I go back,

Trishstar · 05/01/2013 19:46

Teapig I'm finishing up on feb 18th using some holiday first but my mat leave actually begins march 1st. Early finish for me as my job is on my feet ALL day and its a struggle to get our lunch/breaks.

Also got to fit in moving from birmingham to Stratford upon Avon and getting married before little man arrives! Xx not much to do!!!

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 05/01/2013 19:50

trish have you found your legs swell on long days? I've agreed to switch to short shifts come February just to make it easier on my body!

SneezySnatcher · 05/01/2013 20:53

Wishful I'm finishing at Feb half- term (15th). It's pretty early but I thought finishing at a hol would be easier for handover and by the Easter hols I'll be 39 weeks.

I was signed off with high BP/ pre-eclampsia at 35 weeks with DD so I'm hoping finishing earlier will help (BP has started going up already this time).

6 weeks to go until maternity leave!

Teapig · 05/01/2013 21:12

Thanks ladies, very jealous of those finishing in Feb!

I'm taking three weeks holiday from 20th March and hoping to start my maternity leave the week baby is due, unless she arrives early and then I'll just take the holiday at the end.

trish, wow moving and getting married before your LO arrives, that's super exciting.

Trishstar · 05/01/2013 21:32

Legs do swell a little bit, need to keep an eye tho as my BP has been high at recent MW visits.

Yes lots to do before April! All good tho!

I'm really looking forward to finishing work. My heart hasn't been in it for a while and thankfully I'm only going back to Part Time work xx

Giddypants · 05/01/2013 21:48

I was going to finish at 36 wk, but I've had to go off sick with mobility issues, the physio I've seen has said that my pelvis is so bad it will probably detach at the pubic bone!( Eeeww) so I've been told to take it steady, she said I'll be on crutches before too long also.
my GP has signed me off, to be fair 12 hour days are too much for me, I managed to carry on with DS until 36+5 which I honestly don't know how I managed, and I take my hat off to those who do, but in a few weeks I'll be less mobile than some of my patients!

KelleStar · 05/01/2013 21:52

I planned on being in work until 2 weeks before due date, with DD. But was signed off work from 26 weeks and though I went back for a little bit of a week at 32 weeks to handover to ML cover, I then took leave rather than starting ML early. DD didn't arrive until 40+6 as well!

Having problems with my mum and dad and it's getting me wound up, I've just been so pissed off at them that I can't even talk about it without getting really wound up. Dad's back in hospital with the cellulitis again, because he's not been taking his meds. Ward is on short visiting and no pregnant women or children under 14 as the norovirus is about and they think I'm an awful daughter for not visiting. Or in fact for going in with mum at 4am when she called me. After just falling asleep 20 mins before that as DD and Bump had been keeping me awake. Not having childcare for DD or anything. Just so I could hold her hand. His knee is swollen, he is in pain, he should have taken his AB's and PK's, he was admitted three weeks ago for the same thing, but mum wants him back at work earning money and he can't work taking his med's. just banging my head against a brick wall as their logic is about the same as my 2 yo DD's. Grr

My bump has also started being really really itchy with no rash. Not all the time, just sometimes [and my muffin tops too]

GTT test was NYE and was uneventful, but have yet to get my results. Was advised they would let me know in 24 hours, when I called Friday was told to wait for them to call me with the result, even though it's more than 24 hours. I'd assume if I had GD they would have been in touch by now.

I'm waiting for dates to come through for my next scan. I have three arranged, 32 weeks for growth as DD was small, 34 weeks as possible Placenta Previa and another that week as I am overweight. But once they come in I've got to call to get them merged into one scan date...Hmm but I had a letter at the same time as my [should have been] 12 weeks scan for a 32 week scan, but as my dates were adjusted it's at 29 weeks, so I have to cancel that one whilst getting the others merged, but not before or they'll not send me any letters. Blooming systems eh! the mind boggles.

frustrated with people, so spent a little while holed up knitting, eating milky bar buttons [GIANT] and reading a few books that aren't baby or knitting related and watching OBEM and thinking that I've got to do that!

Ollibobs · 05/01/2013 22:23

I'm hoping to work up until 38 weeks, although I'm not sure how practical that is as I commute into London everyday and often do 12-hour days. To be honest, I'm struggling as it is and I'm only 24+3. On Thursday, I was so exhausted I felt like crying when I got home at 8pm.
Thought I might try to see if I can leave earlier each day, but its difficult with my type of work. Maybe some time working from home? I don't know, but don't really want to start ML too early as seems like a waste before the baby comes. But then again, maybe that's what it's there for?

LikeCandy · 05/01/2013 22:25

Oooh the maternity leave debate!!
I have a week of holiday booked for 18th March, if I take m/l after that it'd mean I'm actively working until 36+5, which is 10 more weeks to go.
I've been told I can take it from any time after 29 weeks (January 16th!).
Must remember to finalise some dates with my manager this week, I'd ideally like to go off a little sooner.

kelle how frustrating for you, knitting and milky bar sounds like a good call!

I can't remember if anyone has already posted about this bit does anyone have / thinking of a bugaboo cameleon 3? I had my heart set on the stokke xplory but on looking at it today it seems very plasticky, and the cameleon looks so much more sturdy. I was just concerned that the position of baby is very low to the ground? Any experiences or opinions?

LikeCandy · 05/01/2013 22:27

Wow my maths is terrible, leaving work on 18th March would make me 37+5, now that really feels to late...!
We'll see!!

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 05/01/2013 22:37

I will officially be going on mat leave at 40 weeks...but 37 with the A/L! I've just realised I need to give my notice and mat b1 form in this week! Shock

birdbrain17 · 05/01/2013 22:39

wishful I'm planning on staying till march 20th which is when we break up but I'll be 37+3(!!!!!!) then so looking at tiredness levels now starting to think I'm a bit crazy, but I work one to one so hopefully can take more breaks then if I had a whole class. My friend is due in a few weeks and staying till 38 weeks (with her 2nd DC this is my 1st) so I'm trying to be inspired by her. Guess I'll have to see how it goes.....
by the way I'm also getting very excited I'm due in 14 weeks!!!!! Seems like nothing when I think of telling DH at the beginning of PG 'don't worry we have 9 months to sort things out' and now it's 14 weeks Grin

I feel like the baby is very low though so getting paranoid that I'm going to have it really early, but because it's my first I don't really know how low it should be sitting

teapig people also tell me I'm very small, when I say how far along I am I get comments like 'really but your soooo small!' but the midwife didn't make any comment last week so I'm not worried

aufaniae · 05/01/2013 22:52

BonaDea you have both my name and also my sister's on your girls name list! I like my name, even though the meaning isn't great! (Let me know if you want to know what our names are and I'll PM you).

Teapig I love Fionnula. I know an adult Fionnula and she's lovely. Ottillie is lovely too, it's on my lists but DP's not up for it Sad

Jaqueline Hugo's a great name! :)

And Trishstar ignore the ignoramuses on the baby names board, Hunter Isaac sounds great!

aufaniae · 05/01/2013 22:57

Trish we're also moving before the baby comes. DP's really busy too doing the final year of his degree so most of the organising is going to fall to me over the next few weeks.

We're not also getting married though - congratulations! Grin

aufaniae · 05/01/2013 23:11

I haven't found one name that I can use yet. Last time I read and rejected baby names (for both girls and boys) in 8 baby names books!

We finally agreed on a name we both love when DS was a day old.

This time round I'm doing better in that I've actually got a list of names I like, although they are all either not "the one" or I can't use them for one reason or another.

Nia
Mhairi
Siân
Sioned
Aoife
Sinead
Siobhán
Arianwen
Ceridwen
Cerys
Esme
Anouk
Edie
Estelle
Otillie
Etta
Marianne

So, I'm looking for something kind of similar but none of the above!

DS has a fairly unusual Scottish name, so another Celtic name would go I guess (although not 100% necessary). DD will have Scottish, Welsh, English, Irish and Estonian heritage so I reckon names from those cultures are fair game!

Bambino29 · 05/01/2013 23:37

likecandy - we're getting the cameleon 3. Put off by price initially but been told by lots of friends how it's worth investing in a really decent pushchair, especially as ideally it'll see us through more than one child. Definitely interested to hear anyone else's experiences though.

Trishstar · 06/01/2013 00:59

Aufaniae thanks!!! I did ignore it! OH couldn't understand the hatred for the name when I told him what people had said about it!!!

Xx

EssexWelsh · 06/01/2013 02:13

Aufaniae you can have my girl name as now having a boy, Seren, it means star in Welsh and I just love it! Will definitely use for a girl if we have one. Also would probably go with Iris middle name, but you may like that as a first name?

EssexWelsh · 06/01/2013 06:51

I challenge you all to my new record, 6.45am and still not asleep! I need to laugh or I will cry that this time tomorrow I will be up for work at this time! My only saving grace is that I am hosting Sunday lunch for DPs family today, so no chance of a nap, so surely Sunday night I will sleep like a log! Confused

Fluffeh · 06/01/2013 07:15

Essex I totally sympathise. Lack of sleep is horrible. I also find because I sleep awfully at night I can think of nothing else but getting back to bed all day. But if I sleep more than an hour in the daytime it keeps me up all night again.
Maybe it's natures cruel way of preparing us for life with a small baby?:)

EssexWelsh · 06/01/2013 07:59

Hope so I'm still going strong! Have tried lying there, reading, playing on phone, got up, tried to sleep on sofa but nothing! Need to get up by 10 so going to stay in bed til then and hope for the best. Weirdly not even tired I'm buzzing!!! Hope this is just practise not fussed on this regularly! Don't think I have ever gone a whole night with no sleep, craziness!

wishfulthinking1 · 06/01/2013 08:30

I slept from about 10-2, but the I was up- like you essex just buzzing! DH says its very sweet that i can't sleep because I'm too excited- like a kid the day before going to Disneyland!

I don't think bump is wriggling enough to keep me awake, but it wriggles a lot! And is anyone else hot? I'm normally someone who feels the cold but at the moment I'm just roasting all the time!

27 weeks today! X

Morning everyone

All this maternity leave talk makes me feel really fed up as I am not entitled to anything!

I am planning to work up until the moment I go into labour, take 1-2 weeks off to get over the birth and then go back full time until I finish in placement at the begining of July (adding on the 1-2 weeks I take off to give birth as I have to make up any time I miss)

I will then have 2 months off over the sunner (when I need to write my dissertation) and then back to full time work placement in mid September.

I am seeking advice later this week to find out if there is anything at all I can take off as entitlement or if everything I take off must be made back up.
