EthelredOnAGoodDay · 11/12/2012 09:22

God, been working from home for just over an hour and already feel like killing someone! how is that possible when working from home?!? Grin

Em2010 · 11/12/2012 09:51

Zoey I've been having a lot of Braxton Hicks this time. I wouldsn't say they hurt but they are bloomin' uncomfortable! Like a tightening pain in the lower bit of my bump?

Manda good idea re putting sarnies in the freezer. DH was very much traumatised by the hunger he felt whilst I was in labour with ds. I think I might make him his own little 'man bag' to take to hospital with him this time with a pack up and some toys Xmas Grin After that he can join Mrethel in the Costa cafe!

Not much to report here. Terrible night's sleep last night. Off to the midwife this afternoon. Fx for all clear on bp etc! Hope everyone else is doing well and taking care on the ice!

OctoberCarrot · 11/12/2012 10:53

So all ok with baby and me. A little protein in urine but they will be in touch if there is anything that is concerning. Placenta still a concern but no decision will be made until scan in January.

Had a total meltdown in car park and bawled. DH had to go to work so couldn't stay for appointment so had Ds running around - which was unnecessary as my Mum would have minded him but did not realise dh wouldn't be there - and trying to listen to doctor was impossible and just found it all frustrating. Rang him in floods so hopefully he now appreciates that really he is taking the piss and needs to start being more considerate. Yes I am at home all day but since July it has all been about him and you know what I am at the end of my tether. Last weeks jaunt to NYC was so unnecessary and luxurious. This weekends trip to Liverpool is a necessity but again leaves me alone with Ds going to a family event which is the first one since our wedding on my own. He did fuck all necessary shopping in NYC so that he has no Christmas presents and has 11 to buy. Guess who'll end up having to do it all? He is not taking a day off for us to go and do anything nice together for Christmas but wants to help his mum decorate her tree?!!!? I imagine the hormones are making me more emotional but enough is enough. Sorry for very indulgent rant.

At least my stuff I ordered online "seems" to be on its way.

Gonna make a cuppa and have a slice of Christmas cake my mil made us and sure the world will be brighter.

Mands. S exciting you don't know what you are having. Babies together are just so cute I think. Food seems like a good idea. We had a scheduled section last time so didn't need it though I bought some biccies to have with tea in the days after. Was a lovely treat. Sounds like you have a lovely Christmas planned. We are spending Christmas Eve with my family and Christmas Day with Inlaws. Am really looking forward to Christmas and DH will be off for the time between Christmas and new year.

Hope everyone has a lovely day. Will be back later and hopefully cheerier.

Oc x

Hi guys, hope all is good with everyone.
Sheldon yes, I do have quite a lot to document as I work quite independently, unfortunately it is extra work. It does feel super weird as well, as I plan to come back and understand I will probably be in the same role, it's a bit strange handing over, though I obviously want to make it as easy as I can for whoever covers me!
Hermione sympathy on the back pain - mine seems to be bad with sitting or lying down, I need a standing desk! I keep moving around a lot and that seems to help but it isn't conducive to concentrating at work!
Everyone's Christmas plans sound good. We will be at home as my folks live 3 hours away - and 1 hr from nearest maternity unit. We will have DH's gran (his only family) with us and she's great fun. She's 90 this year! Am hoping building chaos isn't too severe.
Have a good day folks; we have work Christmas lunch in the canteen so planning on squeezing in a few mince pies! :)

LexiandBeanette · 11/12/2012 11:43

Aww Oct crossposted - glad everything is good with you and the baby. I sympathise with the DH woes; mine just doesn't seem to understand that with work and a two hour commute I can't do all the things I normally do as I am tired! Snide comments last night about me not doing the washing up when it was his turn to cook and we didn't eat till 9 didn't go down well, nor did having to sit on the floor in his office for 40mins as he wasn't ready to go home when I picked him up at 6:30pm. I think the meltdown was probably the best thing in the long run to make yours realise and I really hope you feel better soon xx

sundaesundae · 11/12/2012 11:56

Oct, meltdown sounds horrrid but fair, glad things seem ok and FX for scan in Jan.

Christmas will be christmas eve eve with my dad, grandparents, sister, BIL and nephew, usually Christmas eve but DH is working.

Christmas eve will be with friends, silly movies and nibbles.

Christmas day will be us two with visitors popping in and hopefully a trip over to SIL to watch Dr Who with niece and nephew.

Boxiday + next day with my mum SD and teen sister.

NYE we are going to a hotel with friends for a dinner dance, looking forward to that lots!!

Very cold after a 30 min doorstep chat with my window cleaner!!

sarahs999 · 11/12/2012 11:57

I had a day of really uncomfortable BRaxton HIcks too. Quite unnerving as with DS I never had them. Apparently being dehydrated is one of the things that can bring them on so I'm trying to keep myself well waterered now Xmas Wink

pinkpeony4 · 11/12/2012 12:11

I have been having Braxton Hicks for a whole now and also had loads with ds3. They aren't that painful but definitely noticeable. It's a tightening feeling that doesn't hurt. I had really painful ones 3 days before ds2&3 arrived which I guess we're probably early contractions and not BH. I notice them more in the evening when I sit down.

October your meltdown was completely justified. Weekends alone with children are always far worse than weekdays! I hope he realises and starts pulling his weight. Fingers crossed for your placenta too.

Hermione my back is terrible in pregnancy too. I must sound like a broken record but my chiropractor really helps.

We are having Xmas at our house for the first time. There will be 10 of us, do my mum, stepfather, sister & 2 brothers. Looking forward to it and cooking a festive feast!! Then we have a wedding in Somerset on the 27 and will go and stay with my father after that until NYD.

Must go and collect ds2. Last day of term for him and this afternoon we have ds1's carol service

theTramp · 11/12/2012 12:29

Oct - meltdown sounds reasonable. But always worth finding out what is going on with him as well. Just in case he is stressed and worried and hiding that and therefore not being quite as astute about how you're feeling as he should be. Well you never know. Sad thing is someone elses life always looks easier than yours and rarely is. Personally I don't know how any of you with kids have coped with being preggers, apart from fact you have to be. I am at best a wilting flower and am exceedingly fed up with being so pathetic and just not being capable of getting everything done. With kids to run round after as well, my mind just boggles. I think you need medals!

sundaesundae · 11/12/2012 12:40

I am ensuring I tell OH I am tired and need to lie down and walk off if ignored and do just that. Tends to make a point. After carrying the heated towel rail of loveliness from the shop to the car, cheers to the man who laughed at me!!, I was very achey yesterday so half way through making dinner gave up!

I know that preggo with kids will be different, so making the most while I can.

No idea what bubba is doing in there right now, I have had about twenty thumps in the last five minutes in all manner of places. Seems to have settled on cervix and bladder being the most fun currently...

JoJoBella84 · 11/12/2012 13:07

sundae my flump is currently playing the bongos! It's amusing me :)

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 11/12/2012 13:15

tramp I regularly tell me DH I think I deserve a medal! Grin

Oct I think I too would have had a meltdown at that point. I love my DH, but I do sometimes think he has no idea how hard work it is being pregnant on top of looking after nearly 3 year old, working three days a week, commuting for 3 hours a day on those days and generally being all round good egg and general organiser at home! I do try my best to make him realise though! Wink
No braxton hicks, didn't have any with DD so I think they'll be a shock of they do start! Still got general tenderness above and to left of belly button, but I can only think that is the baby's position? Confused
Anyway, better get ready for my trip to the dentist. Wish me luck ladies!

Sheldonella · 11/12/2012 13:57

Afternoon everyone. Blood tests and Lucozade challenge all done. Fx that all is well and I can skip the full GTT now. I had to get up extra early to get to the hospital this morning and am now falling asleep at my desk. I think I will cook something very quick tonight and then go straight to bed!
Nice to hear about everyone's xmas plans. We have stayed in our house a few years now and usually MIL stays over and sometimes my parents too. My mum sometimes has to work xmas so we don't always get them xmas day. This year we have scaled back all our promised visits up north as I just don't think I can cope. We are going to visit for a couple of days but that is all this year I think. We have made it clear that everyone is invited next year for DD's first one so I'm really looking forward to that.
Hermione Sorry to hear about your aches and pains. I have had to scale back my long cooking sessions too, I really miss it! I used to spend a lot of time at weekends making bread but I just can't manage it at the moment. Hope ankle is on the mend.
October Sorry to hear about your meltdown and I hope your DH understands more now. I agree with tramp about pg ladies with DCs deserving a medal. You are doing so well! Glad your appointment went well Brew
JoJo I think mine was playing the bongos yesterday too :) So cute isn't it. I could also feel snuggly feelings like she was swishing her arms around :) :)
Ethel I hope the dentist went well!
Braxton hicks - I'm not sure if I had this yesterday. I was standing up but definitely had a tight feeling. It didn't hurt but did feel strange.

OP posts:
theTramp · 11/12/2012 14:35

Shel - hurrah for end of diabetes challenge.

Ethel - eep, good luck with dentist.

Medals all round to ladies with children already methinks.

Using internal organs as bongos - that sounds familiar. I believe Socs just picks a side and rams into it. Last night bottom of bump was suddenly heaviest thing in world. After a little discrete jiggling about on platform of train station (thank goodness it was cold and I didn't look too odd) I presuaded Socs to move a bit. This morning Socs was clearly playing fast and loose with my bladder. It is only going to get worse before it gets better isn't it. Mind boggling.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 11/12/2012 16:36

Just back from Dr Drill. He was running 30 mins late and then informed me I need a further 4, yes that right, FOUR, appointments!!!! Thank god I'm not paying for any of it!
Luckily didn't hurt at all. Have just emailed my boss telling him this fantastic news that of the 31 days o have left in the office, at least three of them will be spent WFH! I was hoping to get some WFH days post Christmas anyway, so hopefully these can be the catalyst for that!

theTramp · 11/12/2012 17:53

OW! huge sympathies ethel.

sundaesundae · 11/12/2012 18:05

Ethel, I hope you got a sticker and a lollipop!!

pinkpeony4 · 11/12/2012 18:37

Oh wow Ethel!! What exactly are they doing? Glad it didn't hurt. My dentist has a tv on the ceiling which is a good distraction.

Sheldonella hope you don't have to do the GTT. What is the Lucozade challenge? Enjoy your early night. Every night is early for me at the moment!!

Well back from ds1's carol service which was very sweet. Every year sang a song (there are only 4 year groups). Then we whizzes to the older boys swimming lesson and home for supper. Knackered now so looking forward to another early night!

Hope everyone has a lovely evening. Today was freezing cold here, supposed to be the coldest night for a while so keep cosy

mandasand · 11/12/2012 18:54

Hello Marchers - hope everyone?s had a good day.

I?m 28 weeks today and measuring 40! Feels like a bit of a landmark. This morning I spent 3 hrs at the hospital. Had growth scan and babies doing well at 2 pounds something each. One has a head that is at the top of the normal range, yikes!

Leeds still hadn?t replied to the latest faxed letter about The History of my Uterus. We?ve been waiting 3 months now. DH who never gets stress or annoyed or incensed with people other than me! had a right set to with the obstetrician over it, kicking up a right old fuss with the obstetrician, saying it wasn?t good enough simply to write and fax again since all the past letters have been ignored. I felt so sorry for her and kept trying to say ?It?s fine!? but no-one was listening to me!

Anyway, it was good in the end because by the time I?d gone to loo and queued to make my next scan and consultant appts in 4 weeks time, she had got her secretary to ring the hospital and she found out that there are no records whatsoever on the system for my D&C and emergency surgery afterwards. I was a bit shocked, but she explained that I had been seen by a private clinic running within the NHS (quite normal, she said). However, likelihood is that records may not be found after 15 years, in which case the strong advice would be to have a CS, because of the 3% risk of my uterus rupturing during a twin-vaginal delivery. I think I?m okay with that, although it would be nice to have a choice. That said, even a vaginal delivery wouldn?t be the way I want it. With twins I can?t step foot in the MW-led unit, or try for a water birth, and I?ll be strapped up to every monitor going checking on the two babies, and they will prob give me an epidural in case have to be whizzed to surgery for delivery of 2nd baby. So, the efficiency of a CS looks quite attractive by comparison! And because of the big emergency op I?ve had before I understand about how long it takes to recover afterwards etc.

Oh and got my flu jab today AND saw dentist who did a deep clean of my teeth as the plaque (I?m not a flosser Blush ) is irritating my gums, and one of the pregnancy hormones, which I assume I have more of than normal with the twins, makes gums susceptible to bleeding. This explains waking up with mouthful of blood (yeuch) recently. But PHEW no fillings!

VERY sympathetic about the work you need to have done, Ethel. Can they give you all the necessary drugs etc during pregnancy?

Anyway, that?s my news today. Suffice to say I have done NO work! Especially having lunch with good friend and seeing another to take some baby clothes and newborn nappies off her hands!

Hermione, sorry my dear, I think I missed your ankle news ? are you okay? Me too about being a bit of a control freak - it?s always difficult when you?re in other people?s houses / routines for days on end, isn?t it?

Tramp, yes they keep on at me to eat more potassium, but when I first was deficient early in pregnancy I was drinking a big glass of V8 each day and having about four big vine tomatoes expensive! for a snack each afternoon. Plus lots of dinners with tins of tomatoes. I was craving toms, but it wasn?t having any effect. (I can?t stand bananas, except in smoothies?) Think my body may just have a problem with potassium! Hey, well done on the cleaner decision! Best thing we?ve done recently (even if I remain a bit embarrassed about it!)

Em, love the idea of making your DH a man bag for hospital!! Grin

October, sorry to hear DH is being a bit of a knob?sending grrrrrs in his general direction! A sit down and a Conversation with a capital ?c?, maybe?

And Lexi sound like yours needs a bit of a nudge in the right direction. It took a bit of ?training?, shall we say, int he first trimester but mine now is fully on board and super helpful, but he wasn?t at all at the beginning and I?m sure thought I was putting it on a bit.

On the BH I think I?ve had a handful. Once or twice they have just come on their own with no provocation. But they feel exactly the same kind of tightening of my uterus as when I?ve had an orgasm during this pregnancy (not that this happens v. often anymore, though we did have a bit of a nice lie-in etc on Sunday morning!)

mandasand · 11/12/2012 18:55

Oh dear, that was long! Soz for essay Xmas Wink

backwardpossom · 11/12/2012 19:09

Hugs manda - it's disappointing not to get the birth you want, but I suppose being told in advance gives you some time to get your head around it. Better that than trying to get your head around how it all went wrong afterwards, when you're on day 3? Also, I had my teeth hacked at by the hygienist at the dentist yesterday for the same reason. I can't believe how much gunk she managed to get out, and I do floss!! My teeth feel great for it though and I didn't have bleeding gums this morning! Xmas Smile

How's the ankle, hermione?

A week until my consultant appointment...

theTramp · 11/12/2012 20:26

(makes note to sort out dental appointment)

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 11/12/2012 20:44

manda glad you got some sense of direction from the hospital trip today. At least you know what is coming and you can prepare for it! I find it bizarre that, regardless of who carried out your treatment at the time, the medical records can be lost or become obsolete when in your case it clearly related to something fairly major! But that's just large organisations I guess...Hmm

Potential dentist-related TMI alert!! Grin
Yes I can still have anaesthetic and also had X-ray today to ensure no absess or anything is waiting to spring up!
I need four appts because apparently when he checked today, the nerve wasn't completely dead, so he needed to add some more medication to finish that off, plus he was short on time so couldn't do all the root canal work he'd planned (which from what I can gather essentially amounts to the root canal being flushed with water and cleaned to ensure no decaying tissue is left inside...)
So next time he'll finish that off, then he'll need to allow a bit of time for things to settle down before putting in some sort of metal post and starting building up the tooth, then at the next appt they make an impression for the crown and then finally, at the last appt, the crown is fitted. So it's a bit of a long drawn out job!
It doesn't really hurt at all though, apart from usual jaw ache of having your mouth wide open for ages!!! Apparently its because the nerve in the tooth is dead and that, as you would imagine, is what causes the pain normally.

Apart from all that excitement, not much to report! Got DDs birthday on Thursday and GTT in Friday. Was thinking I might mention this tenderness on my bump whilst I'm at the hospital on Friday. I have two hours of sitting doing nothing, so surely I can convince one mw to spare me 5 mins!!! Otherwise I'm not due to see my mw until 4 Jan and that's assuming it's her I see, I've not seen her since booking!

zoeymlucas · 11/12/2012 20:54

Sorry they couldn't find your notes amanda and you won't get the birth you hoped for but I suppose with 2 babies they have to be super careful and with past history it's better to be safe and know where you stand! Saying that I know it's hard I am still struggling with my birth options and not being in control, think that more to do with me being a control freak!

I have booked my whooping cough jab for next week at 28+2, now just to book a dentist for my bleeding gums too, lol!!
At last DH agrees we should take DS2 to doctor to get him checked as he hardly eats, is always thirsty and sleeps ALOT!!!! He woke from a nap at 6.15 tonight and at 7.45 was crying at the stair gate wanting to go to bed, when we opened the gate he whole face lit up and he raced up to his room, I don't think that's normal for a 22 month old and I am prob over thinking it but I want to be sure.

Was so cold today I had to defrost my car leaving work to come home Xmas Hmm

Baby def has a sleeping pattern is metal ALL day even boss could see whole belly moving today and then is quiet when I go to bed, has a little clump or too but then settles down- any chance this will continue when he is born?

mandasand · 11/12/2012 21:30

Oh zoey you too re bleeding gums and possom you had hygienist as well! Glad am not only one! Smile This may be way TMI but during the clean I kept gagging because the gums were bleeding so much Xmas Sad It made me want to floss more (I do occasionally!) but dentist said not to go overboard they are so bad and not to come back till after babies born which was a bit of a relief!

You're all right re birth lack of plan and I hear that a planned CS is often better in terms of recovery than an emergency one. I think it would be a nightmare to deliver one vaginally and then have to have 2nd one by CS, for example! Two lots of recovering to do!

Zoey I think that's a v. good idea to take your little man to the docs. Just for peace of mind. Sorry haven't been to Post Office today am crap but will soon!

Ethel, I know, it seems extraordinary re medical notes. If I'd gone to private clinic which went bust maybe I could understand. But I had no inkling it was a private clinic running within NHS and even in that scenario I would fully expect said clinic to hand over the notes to the NHS for posterity. Most D&Cs are entirely uncomplicated, but sometimes things don't go to plan and it has ramifications for the future. Bonkers?

Oh, wow, yes, that's a lot of root canal work. A week or two before I moved to the States, a few years ago, I was super-stressed with packing up my life and finishing one job / starting another etc and I had a really stressful dream from which I woke with a pain in my mouth. It quickly developed into an ache but despite repeated trips to dentist he couldn't see anything. But I had been grinding teeth in sleep and cracked the tooth a bit! I really, really wish he'd spotted it, because on arrival in States my cheek swelled up etc and had to have emergency root canal work before medical / dental insurance had been sorted out. Very $$$$!!!! I got a good chunk of it back eventually but it still cost me about £500. I won't go into the second root canal I had over there which I am now quite sure I didn't need ... (Sorry, I think I've told my dental woes before!)
