beautician I am shocked that a midwife would say that to you given your history!!!! Wait to see what the consultant says and remember if they say no, you can referred to another

MooLL · 21/11/2012 21:12

maybe I do ... But I would say it isn't tge 'easy' option as some see it as you are recovering from major surgery and certainly extends the healing time vs many natural births .. However I was up and about day 2 and onto just paracetomol for pain by day 3. By week 2 I was going on some pretty long walks ... Of course I dindnt have a dc already with dd1 and think this time it will be different as will have to keep my active 3 year old at bay for a couple of weeks ... But I have to say I am happy to have another one and had no problems with my first

lollypopsicle · 21/11/2012 21:18

maybe as I understand it, they are required to consider you request for flexible working hrs (ie part time) but they are not obliged to agree and can cite specific circumstances regardless of what was agreed for others.
However, if your request is reasonable and there are others that have been able to go pt previously then you have a good case. I would advice consulting your union when you plan to negotiate your return to work and seek their advice before agreeing anything too. Perhaps contact them now to talk through your rights/ options as it may help you worry less for now?

lollypopsicle · 21/11/2012 21:20

Advise not advice. Call myself a teacher, eh? Blush

maybe pushing for 3 hours, my entire labour with DD lasted 3 hours!

Thanks everyone for your support - I'm feeling much better about it all a few days later - realised I'm just going to have to be assertive!

By the way, those of you who have done this all before, what do you think is the best amount of time to take off before the due date? I know it ultimately depends on when the baby comes but I am wondering if 2 weeks before EDD is about right?

RTchoke · 22/11/2012 08:55

Hi Everyone

SeaSalt - I'm glad your scan went well and that the raw chicken did no harm. I once got salmonella from undercooked chicken but it hit within a couple of hours. Is your morning sickness receding at all? I have to admit to being jealous of your weight loss. My sickness led to carb loading and I have put on a WHOLE STONE already. So depressing.

LittleBairn - your baby clearly agrees with you that a nuchal measurement is unnecessary! Is your DH relaxed about having bloods only?

Roast - that is shocking about your boss. I second, third and fourth what others have said about not feeling you have to do the right thing about work. I fell into that trap and returned to work gullying after adD2 and I do regret missing out on lots of special times with her. This time o have no choice but to return full time after 6 months, if I don't we won't be able to pay the mortgage, but if I had a choice I'd want a better home/work balance.

Beaut - I think if you keep pushing and pushing you will get a c section. It's a sad reality that on the NHS the pudgier people get the treatment they want but the standard first response is "no" because that will put many off and save time and money. I'm conflicted about whether to ask for a c section. Two huge babies and one instrumental delivery have left my pelvic floor in a less than optimum state so on those grounds I'd prefer a c section, but I hate the idea of 3 nights in hospital and post op pain.

I'm 14+3 and although the nausea is improving it's yet to disappear. The tiredness is still there too (that may not be being helped by the 41 hour work weeks combined with two insomniac daughters). When will the glow begin?

RTchoke · 22/11/2012 08:58

So many typos! I did NOT mean "pudgier" people get better NHS treatment. I am sure I typed "pushier". Must preview!

milkandribena · 22/11/2012 11:55

How are we all this fine day?

Maybe - they can make decisions individually but I second the talk to your union and just send out feelers about how they might respond.

Wish I had the option of going part-time. But with it wouldn't work and I work sort of flexi-hours now anyway. Plus have to think it though work/money wise like a single parent.

See glad the scan went good :)

lolly your boss sounds lovely.

roast WHAT?!? Some people...

I have been rushed off my feet this week - so many meetings and there isn't enough time in the day. Have nearly forgotten about 3 already and only remembered in the nick of time - Is this the start of preg-brain ? I'm already very forgetful.

16+2 today

RT Grin

I just thought I'd come and cheer everyone up with the following revelations...

Am 17+0 today and:

  • spotty skin has gone
  • terrible constipation Blush has gone
  • little waves of nausea have gone
  • there is a definite bump appearing
  • lovely fluttery popping baby feelings every day

So hang in there everyone with constipation and ms, you are approaching a nice corner to turn!

jenpenod · 22/11/2012 14:49

10 - are you sure you don't have hyperemesis? You sound so ill, I don't know how you're managing to get to work at all. It was a relief in a way to be at the hospital being treated for hyperemesis because they put you straight on a drip and fill you up with fluids. It was such a relief to know my body was getting hydrated without the stress of having to force liquid down and inevitably throw it back up. I'm through the worst if it (although now have whooping cough) but I found the mental side of being constantly sick much harder than the physical side. It's no wonder you're feeling down. Any chance you could stay home for a few days from work? At least that would relieve you from the pressure to get dressed, commute etc. Really hope it passes for you soon...

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda · 22/11/2012 17:24

Had a bit of a scare today. Walked past the mirrored wardrobe in the buff and caught a side profile view. I HAS 3 TUMMIES NOW! Shock. The low lying wobbly fat one that's always been there. The above waist displaced innards one which appeared a few weeks ago. And in between them both a new firm baby one. If I lie on my back I'll look like a 3 humped camel.

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda · 22/11/2012 17:26

Oops 16+2

Hello ladies, can i join!?
I'm jumping from the June group to this one- had my scan today and was 6 days further on than we predicted. Huge shock! It feels like we've lost a week (although i'm secretly quite pleased seeing as my bump is mahoosive!). 13+4 today and feeling well and truly pregnant.

jenpenod · 22/11/2012 18:45

10 - totally understand, I felt the same about wanting the doctor's sign off. Was so worried that people would think I was skiving off work which seems ridiculous now when I think back to how sick I was. Just make sure the doctors listen to you. I found one doctor SO dismissive about the mental said of things. I was trying to tell her how depressed I felt and all she could say was 'of course you're depressed, you're being sick 10 times a day'. Not particularly helpful. After that I just turned to DH and friends for more support. Had been pushing friends away because I felt so useless and sick but then realised that they don't mind and are happy to come to my house and sit with me even if I'm not in the mood for much chat. It made the world of difference and definitely pulled me out of my dark moods...that and the realisation that it was temporary and would go away at some point before giving birth! Maybe after having a difficult pregnancy, we'll have lovely babies that sleep 23 hours a day :)

Fingers crossed for your recovery and until then, try and do as little as possible.

berri · 22/11/2012 19:24

Hi 12 welcome & congratulations!

Jen & 10 I'm sorry you're still feeling so crappy Sad I really hope you get some help from the doc Jen & fingers crossed this nasty phase will be over very soon do you can enjoy your pregnancy.

jenpenod · 22/11/2012 19:54

Thanks berri Smile

As soon as I'm better, I've big plans to eat in ALL of my favourite restaurants/takeaways. I'll make up for the weight loss in the first trimester!!

Have a good evening all...

wilderumpus · 23/11/2012 09:28

hey all

10 chuck. can you have a phone appt with a dr, if they are worried you might be called in to see a duty dr or sent to hospt with a referral. That's what I did with my bleeding on monday, didn't have to physically see the doc... If you have headaches they are a sign of dehydration. are you keeping fluids down today? Have you told the receptionist that you cannot stop being sick, am sure they will put you thru to a dr straight away if so? hope you get better soon Thanks

glad you are blooming berri :)

maybe my friend tried to get part time after having her first but they said no and hired someone else full time! luckily she had saved her maternity pay and could just pay it back. other's had part time positions ion her school. It just seemed mean tbh as she had the best results in her dept etc. weird. they were a bit shite tho.

sorry beaut I don't know anything about c section vs natural births really, but hope you get the birth you want!

am really achy on my lower back and womabge area today, think is weird growing pains?! skin really spotty one day and then the next all gone... proper little bump. Have told my supervisor at work but not heard back. Am very anxious about that info just hanging about the ether!

15+3

10 and jen so sorry it's still so crap for you both. 10 am glad you're trying to see the doc. If nothing else, it'll make you feel better just for having had the chance to talk to a professional about it. Just make sure you're very honest about how you're feeling and don't underplay it. You really shouldn't have to feel this awful.

When I went at around 11 weeks, feeling horrific as I couldn't keep any food or liquid down, they were great and really understanding and I made sure they knew I couldn't carry on the way I was. They didn't sign me off, sadly, but they did give me anti-nausea pills which were MIRACULOUS. I ended up only taking them reactively because I didn't want to be reliant, but they really helped settle things.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

So who knows what happens next? I have a midwife appointment at 17 weeks (about 10 days time) and anomoly scan at 22 weeks in Jan, but should I be going to antenatal classes yet? It's kind of a weird time, this, because things are happening but I feel totally clueless. Happy, but ignorant.

Anyone have any ideas what should be going on?

FrustratedSycamoreBonks · 23/11/2012 11:18

Hi ladies. I've been loitering, but had scan and dates have been bumped forward a bit, so now I'm officially due in may.

Good luck today 10 I'm sorry you're having to fight to get anti-sickness meds. And I hope they prescribe you some today.

i think I must have had a very sympathetic doctor (personal experience perhaps) who prescribed mine. They are great. I can actually function now, except today because I forgot to take them last night, I dread to think how horrible I'd feel without them, at least I know it'll be okay tomorrow

13+0

milkandribena · 23/11/2012 11:29

hello 12
10 sounds shit hopefully the doctors can do something

beaver 'fraid not I'm completely in the dark about everything But then I usually am in general.

jen hope you feel better soon.

It's non-man turn to come down this weekend. Have so much to do this weekend it is unbelievable.
But I have to do something with my bathroom - so may be dragging him to B&Q need to get tiles and paint and stuff. 'Tis very exciting - I do love a bit of DIY.
