Yuck "panties". As bad as "kiddies" in my judgey book. Yuck yuck yuck!

What are everyone's thoughts on carrying/ lifting weight? I could do with bringing something into work on the train tomorrow. It's a huge display thing that is 4ft long & 3ft wide. It fits in a bag over my shoulder but is a little cumbersome.

Pre pg I've taken this display thing all over & am reasonably fit & strong. Just don't want to take any unnecessary risks (says she who ate some melted dolce latte the other day & went on an icy bike ride last week Hmm)
T.i.a
Hope everyone's having a relaxing Sunday

scooby26 · 16/12/2012 11:50

Geordie- agree on the kiddies/panty!

Don't struggle with it if you don't HAVE to. If its work can h not taxi and claim back under the circs? Or do without it! Even if u can manage it and all ok it will be harder than u think!!!

We have a house I inevitable winter germs here- DS been poorly since wednesday night with cough/ cold and since kindly coughing over me since I inevitably have joined him ;-). He slept til 9am ! ;-) ( tho I'd rather he was well) and we both snuggled with chocolate under a blanket on sofa while DH sleeps off his nightshift.

In the subject of nightshift..... I'm still working two nightshifts every ten days- frankly its killing me. I usually don't mind them but I dread it the day before, really struggle to stay awake and function and feel exhausted throughout and days after while I'm off. Barely recover as I'm heading back to work for next set of shifts! Is it really lazy and 'giving in' to be signed of them by gp? Work are clearly not volunteering it!

scooby26 · 16/12/2012 11:52

I work 6 shifts on.... 4 off..

scooby26 · 16/12/2012 11:52

SantasWildeRumpus · 16/12/2012 12:13

bugger, I say 'kiddies'. :)

geordie if you can carry it do it I guess. If you don't have to tho would be good to leave it to someone else?!

scooby I cannot imagine how any pg people do nightshifts! can you not speak to your manager about it?

beaver good luck with the house!

Arf work plans/career and being pg... I remember when being pg with DS I couldn't work much and didn't really care about much other than being pg. Now I have to finish the PhD in two weeks and so I must concentrate and care... but the rest of my life is suffering! I am very disorganised and anxious about silly stuff like getting DS's tea Confused I find that very hard but work is fine! When work is over I will be able to mooch about and get everything done in an ok way.

I think that it is quite natural to want to be a homebody and become focused on our babies, but doesn't mean that if we want to, we can't work too. So is no insult to any sisterhood as far as I am concerned, just is how it is :) My 'baby brain' didn't go until DS was about 9 months old last time but I was in a happy haze of new parenthood and baking and didn't care to come out of it at all.

glad you are resting up seasalt :) Am also producing prodigious amounts of CM. The thought of it all coming at once?! Ew.

Thanks Scooby.
Re: night shifts. If you can get the Doc to sign you off them with no consequences, go for it! I'm saying to myself that likelihood is I'll be working til I'm 70, this is more important for now. Very unlikely a deathbed scenario would be anyone wishing for more time spent at work..!

wow, its been a while! like reading a full on novel getting through a few weeks worth! Xmas Grin
feeling for everyone with sinus problems and bugs. I'm on antibiotics for my sinuses now. was off work a couple of days when usually I'd just have some sinutab and get on with it. Just can't do that these days!
Beaver whereabouts is the house? I'm in crystal palace ('upper norwood') and MIL is in west norwood. Both fine places to be though there's nicer bits and grottier bits. You'll have to get to know crystal palace if you do move to norwood. its awesome. like a little village, lots of independent shops & lots of parks too. train links are pretty good round here so not too cut off. though i did cancel on some friends today cos i just don't feel up to travelling into town and back.
ooof, completely exhausted. being a music teacher at christmas is mental. nativities, carol services, concerts, carol singing, and the flipping paperwork to go with all the trips! tbh I think organising the adults is harder work than the children! Xmas Wink oh, and we had ofsted too Xmas Sad roll on Friday [fgrni]

twinklingelephant · 16/12/2012 15:46

haha, that should be a Xmas Grin!

GeordieCherry · 16/12/2012 21:18

I've decided to take it. Train here is5 min walk. Lets call it 15 with the display. I'll get a taxi at the other end. It's done then (& not cluttering up the lounge)
Wearing various combinations of clothes to see what's fitting ok & what needs under the bed, even if it's 'summer' stuff. DP said "you look like someone's Mummy today". I rather enjoyed it Grin

beaver33 · 16/12/2012 21:57

twinkling I'd say it's prob in the grotty part, near norwood junction station...still, there is always a compromise! Figure it's still 10 mins from CP - which, I agree, is fab - and we could only afford a small two bed flat there. So it's a toss up between location and the right property.

Glad someone's close, though - let's def try to meet once babies are here!
Are you planning on local NCT?

Been having a few low twingey cramps today - still growing cramps, do you think? Does that still happen at this stage?

SantasWildeRumpus · 17/12/2012 10:38

beaver congrats on finding a house! how exciting! And yes is really normal to be twingey and achy, it is your bump growing and will keep happening now until you pop :)

aw geordie that's sweet!

Is anyone fretting about stretch marks yet or is it too early?! I am not moisturising enough (even tho I know this doesn't actually work for stretch marks it is nice for dry, itchy bumps!) ALSO I had the linea nigra line by this time in my last pg but this time, nada. I think that is really weird... any experienced people know about this and subsequent pregnancies? Like, can you sometimes just not get it?! Does anyone else have it yet?!

Arf am veeery cranky today. Am glad I am able to hide at work!

DH felt the bubs move last night. Hurrah!

Couldn't face work today so am working from home. Don't know what's happened to me - I generally enjoy my job, and it's a really busy time of year for me at the moment, but my motivation has just gone completely out of the window!! Hopefully will have a good rest over Christmas and go back feeling refreshed with a little bit of energy in January!

I think you probably get the stretching pains at various times throughout - baby might be having a bit of a growth spurt beaver. Glad you have found a house too, hope it all goes smoothly. I think that one of my old school friends has recently bought a place in Norwood.

Not too worried about stretchmarks - didn't get any last time, but then I had lost 3 stones before I got pg then - this time I am that 3 stone heavier, so my skin is already more stretched, but what will be will be. I was also wondering about the linea negra - I had this last time, I'm sure by this time, but I don't think it's appeared yet.

Hurrah to movements & DH feeling them!! Am Xmas Envy and cannot wait to start feeling proper movements!!

Scan on Friday - can't wait!!!

Forgot to ask after you seasalt, how are you doing? Have you had your appointment yet?

How lucky for us to have a GP on the thread too cuppa!!! I'm sorry your MW was flustered - hope she settles down a bit in your later appointments.

betsyb75 · 17/12/2012 13:49

Hi everyone,

I have only posted before to say Hi, but thought it was time to actually say something!
So I had my 20 week scan today, I was so nervous, this is DC1, or as we found out DS1, having a boy! We both had tears streaming down our faces as we watched our little boy squirm around waving and wriggling, and the look on DP's face as he saw our son is something I will never forget...we are 2 very happy people and couldn't stop Grin all the way home!

Right at the end though,I was told I have a low lying placenta, and will have to go back at 36 weeks for an internal scan.
They didn't seem too worried, but now I have consulted Dr Google and have got myself a bit anxious, has anyone had this before?

Hope everyone ok today

SantasWildeRumpus · 17/12/2012 14:16

elly are you feeling ok or are you just feeling 'pg'?! is so weird how it takes over you isn't it.

betsy there are a couple of us with placenta issues on this board, we can look after you! I have a low lying placenta too but mine is really irritable so whenever I walk more than a mile odd or use my abdominal muscles (putting up tree lights standing on a chair anyone?! am a twonk) I get spotting! Just take it easy and if you spot don't worry, it is just your placenta and rest up a bit. Is a lovely reason to be super lazy. hopefully it will shift so you can avoid a CS (if that is what you want!); most do apparently. You can have it and have no symptoms tho, like you seem to have so far! Just don't go running or doing big swims :) and congrats on your boy :) Boys rock!

MooLL · 17/12/2012 14:36

Hi all - just a quickie to say im back from New York (boo!) ...and finally caught up on reading all your news ... congrats to those for scans / houses / growing bumps and Thanks for those with colds / pains / etc ...

NY was amazing and very relaxing to be away from my 3rd old DD for a week, only worrying about me all day long! We ended up walking miles (over 100 blocks a day), eating lots, drinking a little, and lazing on an amazing marble bath that looked out over the Empire State Building ... the only thing that suffered a little was shopping as I feel such a round christmas bauble at the moment ... hey ho

cannot beleive its almost christmas - ordered DD a pink bike today from father christmas - she has finally persuaded him she has been good!! Dreading post chrsitmas and how i am going to get her to do the things she doesnt want to do!

betsyb75 · 17/12/2012 14:43

Thank you santaswilde I am so happy to be having a boy, although it didn't feel like a shock, I felt he was a boy all along!
I have an under-active thyroid, so I am being seen by a consultant quite regularly, which makes me feel well looked after, going in again tomorrow to have my thyroid levels checked. I know my hospital inside out already!

I guess I will just have to take it easy and be a bit super lazy!

lollypopsicle · 17/12/2012 19:52

Betsy my mum had a low lying placenta with me, spotted throughout but had a normal birth and I was overdue. My sister in- law also had llp, no symptoms and it moved by the next scan. She too had a normal birth. I'm sure you will have a similar outcome Smile

Ellypoo · 17/12/2012 20:06

I'm not too sure santas, I hope it's just being pg, but this is a really difficult time of year for us Sad Am seeing my doc in the morning so will discuss it with her.

Hi betsy, there are a few on here with llp, so you are in very good company, and yay to an extra scan!!

Glad you had a nice break mooll!!

GeordieCherry · 17/12/2012 22:51

Aww, Santa I can't wait til DP can feel the movements. They're very on & off for me, mostly when I'm laid in bed. Feels luvverly Smile

scooby26 · 17/12/2012 23:58

Feeling sorry for myself :-(

Inevitably ive got DS cold/ cough bug after he has spent days coughin over me- like all 2.5 yr olds!

Sadly with asthma and a trip to friends who has a dog ( allergic and can't take antihistamines ) I've ended up really quite unwell. I feel absolutely exhausted, gp prescribed steroids and lots of inhalers plus antibiotics nd wants me back tomorrow. I cough in fits whenever I move and on occasion even ( ahem )wee. I'm slightly concerned that I may be a little wet when not coughing and concerned its fluid.... Had been feeling squirmy moves last 2/3 weeks and haven't felt any in last 24/36 hrs :-(

Wish I bought an amazon Doppler now!

Reenypip · 18/12/2012 00:34

Hiya scooby, my little boy has had an infection of some sort for 5 weeks now, and it went to my chest last week....it's horrible isn't it, on top of asthma. I dread getting any infections, especially on my chest, as cant breathe very well anyway and when get it, it's so uncomfortable and distressing.
Hope the infection clears up and your asthma gets back to a more copeable level.

Reenypip · 18/12/2012 00:35

I'm 18w5d and I felt some flutters a few weeks ago and didn't feel any for a couple of weeks, and they have returned today.

roastpotatoes · 18/12/2012 08:44

hello everyone,

congrats on the house, beaver

sorry to hear about all of the illnesses. i have also got a bit of a cold and am completely knocked out by it. i came home from work at 3pm yesterday and had a lie down on the sofa - next thing i knew dh was getting home and it was 10.45!

we had our 20wk scan yesterday and all looked good - apart from a low lying placenta. we're also booked in for another scan at 32 wks to see if it has moved. i haven't had any symptoms/bleeding but i'm not sure if i should do anything differently now i know - e.g. i've read you shouldn't have sex, but is that just if you're getting symptoms do you think??
