Hope the growth scan goes well today Sarah!

Bah, sorry to hear about the continuing heartburn Chefette, boo.

Thanks for all the sympathy and reassurance re under-the-boob pain. Consensus seems to be it's normal and related to babies needing more room. So I guess I just need to suck it up, as they say in the States.

I too am having trouble with continuous sleep. It started during my cold and has only got a bit better since. Sometimes it's needing the loo, most often it's thirst, but also I need to wake up when I need to move position as I can't get up without concerted effort and a lot of moaning and groaning! Poor me, but also port DH who always wake up a little bit. I guess this is good training for Life Afterwards - my friend with the new baby says she's feeding every two hours day and night!

OC I know - mid 20 weeks!! The time has started to rush by! Could you have a minimum spend set with your extravagant sis?

Right, better get on with the day. Lots to do!

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 14/11/2012 08:23

Hi all, quick message from center parcs!
All going well here, booked in spa this afternoon, ahhhhh!

Have scanned through posts, quick responses:
Carpet in bathrooms and kitchens, ooh not really!
Baby monitors, we had BT one same as pink.

manda it's probs carpal tunnel, I had that with DD, had tingly hands and also quite stiff hands too.

We have one car between us, is a Mazda 6, massive boot! We do lots of miles and is reasonably economical.

Not bought much yet, most of the nursery stuff we had for DD will suffice, but will need a few more bits and pieces.

Had my first experience of the baby being in a very uncomfy position yesterday evening. Felt really tender all down one side and realised that it was the baby in a funny position. Was a bit freaked out as had none of this with DD!!! this pg is a voyage of discovery! Ha ha ha!

Am planning on working til 1 march, when I'll be 37.5 weeks. DD was 8 days over so expecting this one to be late too.

Anyway, better go and get some breakfast sorted.

Take care all and look forward to catching up later in the week. X

Total sympathies here re: heartburn & under bra area pain. Gaviscon has been my best friend for the past month & I have bottles of it everywhere. Hideous. I have also got that pain under the bra area, had it in every pregnancy & it really hurts at lot. Chiro is good at releasing the diaphragm and so will try & get an apt this afternoon. Last night I felt so stretched and sick, maybe need to try and eat small meals esp before bed to help with heartburn & squashed feeling. Can't believe I have potentially 15 weeks (probably more because two of mine were late) left, skin feels so tight!!! Joys!

Sorry for the me, me, me post!

Hope everyone is ok

OctoberCarrot · 14/11/2012 08:41

I'll be back later b put just need to say. Grrrrrrrrrrr. sisters. And breathe. That makes me feel better!

OctoberCarrot · 14/11/2012 08:53

And I am back.... A nice cuppa can solve anything.

Sorry for heartburn and pains etc. I tink it is mostly stretching with the pains mands.

Need to go and get bra fitted as well. There is a nice lingerie shop near methat has specific maternity section so will get a couple there.

Am with you on waking. Last night I could not sleep so only went to be at 12:30 and slept through the night though am usually awake with bathroom and drinks. So not used to not getting a full nights sleep.

Glorious day in Ireland. Off waking with a friend on the seafront and then a nice coffee. Hurrah.

Hope everyone has a lovely day.

OC xxxxx

manda you don't necessarily need swelling to signify CT, it's a common sign &symptom but not always present depending on severity.
The biggest give away is that the median nerve which is the affected nerve (supplies the thumb, index finger, middle finger and one side of the ring finger) the tingling will only affect those areas so if your feeling pain into your little finger it isn't that!!! (Run your thumb and index finger up the left and right side of your ring finger and see if it 'feels' different.
Generally it's caused by compression to the median nerve so if you sleep with your wrists curled it will affect it more... Get a splint! If its being caused by inflammation there isn't a huge amount you can do as pg women tend to retain water anyway (but you've already said you don't have swelling) just make sure you're drinking plenty and moving it regularly if you dehydrate yourself you'll retain more fluid!
The trip to John Lewis was my first experience and I have to say the customer service was fabulous. The staff cannot do enough to help you!
Woohoo for reaching 24weeks viability was my last milestone. I've stopped hitting milestones now and just enjoying this happy phase of being pg!

em I'll definitely be re bundling some of the stuff, it would be silly of me to assume I'll like everything that's sent especially as OH has put his foot down at Disney stuff (apart from the thumper snowsuit). 200 items is probably a bit extreme for a new born but I look at it as spending around 25p per item of clothing (you couldn't even get that in a charity shop)!
I just want it all to arrive now so I can wash it and fold it and do all that 'mummy' stuff!

tramp I feel your pain with the loo breaks! If I don't get my 8 hours I'm exceptionally grumpy. I'm thinking on this as experience for when the baby arrives though! Goodness, you should see my 'sense of humour failure' if I don't eat on time!!

chefette the house has taken much longer than anticipated. The builders haven't been in 6 weeks to finish off bits and pieces! They're here today and tomorrow though! Fx that will be everything! Then we or should I say he, can start shifting the furniture downstairs so I can finish off the nursery rather than living in it and make the spare room the spare room rather than the master bedroom! It's a tedious process this project management stuff!! What's your expected completion date?

theTramp · 14/11/2012 09:10

Your day sounds lovely OC, colour me jealous!

So cots; my research tells me I need drop side, 3 levels for mattress cot bed. Bars should be pretty solid and fairly close together so there's no issues with stuck heads or feet and so gnawing (when teeth arrive) isn't an issue. Being tall and having no intention of hurting myself lifting heavy loads from uncomfortable positions I don't think a cot without a drop side is a good idea. Lots of stress & strain on your back. So far best I've seen has been John Lewis range - in terms of price & quality. I wasn't v impressed by mothercares range and prices. Also JL have some nice mattresses. Seems to be possible to get a good new cot for under £200.

I'm sooooo sleepy. (yawn).

Morning all

Sorry to hear people are suffering and the real 'joys' of pregnancy have well and truely kicked in for everyone hopefully it settles for you all soon :) Also feeling sorry for those having to get and wee all night I nknow that will come soon and am not looking forward to it as toilet is a whole floor away! I seem to be awakw most of night with pelvis and last night was bad to the point my mum wanted to drive me home as I was in that much pain - as I popped over there to sort some stuff for her!

Have just had a hot chocolate after an awful drive to work - a lorry pulled out on me on a roundabout and I missed him by about 4 cms - he braked in front of me and I thought someone was going to go up the back of me as it happened very fast. The lorry man got out and said sorry he wasnt watching properly, I was not happy and was crying my eyes out as belt pulled on bump and I really thought I was going to crash! Then sat in traffic for another hour feeling sorry for myself!

Morning everyone. Ugh, I feel so stressed today! I phoned my mum last night and she had a very very petty disagreement with my dad at the weekend and they haven't spoken to each other since. What was supposed to be a nice chat turned into her ranting about it for over an hour. It is so trivial - an argument over a film!! I came off the phone very stressed and still feel wound up about it this morning. I'm usually good at letting things wash over me but my parents seem to have this effect. Grr.
Anyway, sorry to hear about all the discomfort that is going on, I'm with you on that. I have accepted now that I will need to get up for a wee in the night until the end but was very happy when it only happened once last night :)
Thanks for all the comments about childcare, they have made me feel much better about it.
three How did last night go? Hope it was a a little easier for you and DD.
JoJo What lovely purchases and great bargain on all the newborn things! I too love John Lewis! We bought a cute swaddle blanket in there yesterday and a stripy lampshade. Your house sounds like it is coming along, do you know when it will all be finished?
manda Sorry to hear about the discomfort, you must be suffering with two in there. It all sounds normal based on what I've read though. I've had a bit of pain at the top in the night. My hands aren't actually swollen either. Is there some sort of cushion you could use to help you sleep better if you don't already? Love the sound of your oak table. There was an oak table in John Lewis I had my eye on but couldn't get DH to agree :) One day...
zoey Sorry to hear about your driving to work scare, that must have been horrible. Glad you are ok.
tramp I have been looking at those cots too, they look very good.
chef I'm with you on the gaviscon, it tastes disgusting. It does work thought doesn't it. Yay for new car!
Ooh, JoJo one for question for you about carpal tunnel if that is ok. My midwife says thats what it is but it is my ring finger and little finger that go all stiff. Is this something else?
I too was thinking about us all being way past the halfway point too. I am 24 weeks on Saturday and ridiculously happy about this :) Yay for our babies Grin

pinkpeony4 · 14/11/2012 09:58

I can really recommend baby mattresses they are fab and the mattresses are very comfy & a lot cheaper than other places. I always buy a new mattress for each baby and these have definitely been better than the John Lewis & white company ones we have had in the past.

We have two White Company cotbeds which are great & ds2 still sleeps in the bed part of it. Will be buying him a new bed when this baby needs a cot.

GummiberryJuice · 14/11/2012 10:37

Morning all

Night time woes here too,Manda I also need to wake up just to turn over, I had a sore hip before I was pg and it is getting worse. I start off lying on left side with my heated wheat bag draped over sore hip.

Scan showed yesterday that the baby is resting its head perfectly on my bladder so I'm up in the night to pee too.

This is my bedside cot, but the side drops right down and under cot, so you can poistion cot matress to the same hieght as your bed, I never really used that but my SIL borrowed the cot and loved it, she had to put an email alert on gumtree for the same cot so I can get mine back.

Zoey not how you want to start your day ((hugs))

Manda remember you have 2 in there pushing everything up

theTramp · 14/11/2012 10:50

Oh gosh, missed that Zoe - you poor thing. Cup of tea, deep breaths and hope you're feeling calmer.

Shel - if it makes you feel any better I'm looking for a nanny to step in at 6 weeks. I have to get back to work ASAP as new, own, business so no work = no pay. I wouldn't feel at all bad about looking at nurseries now. :).

Sheldonella · 14/11/2012 10:57

Thanks tramp I think my hormones get the better of me sometimes. We are being good mums arranging care for our children really aren't we.

JoJoBella84 · 14/11/2012 11:49

sheldon the specific finger thing only comes into play for the tingling sensation (from the nerve). If its stiffness you're experiencing that could be as a result of any residual swelling/inflammation/water retention. Keep it moving though. If you stop moving it it will become stiffer (joints are designed for movement and will self lubricate as best they can) but ultimately it's just one of those pregnancy related things!! It'll bugger off once bambino arrives.
Massage can help for trying to shift the excess fluid and night splinting can help if you find it's worse in the mornings due to curling your wrist at night as that closes off the nerve so can be very painful and stiff in the mornings.

Sheldonella · 14/11/2012 11:57

Ah, makes sense, thanks JoJo. Shaking my hand when I wake up seems to fix the stiffness. It is nice to have experts on the thread :)

LexiandBeanette · 14/11/2012 14:10

Hello ladies
Horrid night last night as we did our budget planning the realities of a starter business and stat mat pay sunk in. I hadn't realised quite how much lifestyle would have to change - cancelling hair colour, tv subscription, contact lenses, let alone being able to afford to go to a coffee morning with other mums, have a meal out or buy a t shirt! Am hoping I lose my baby weight so I can get back into my old clothes or I will be wearing maternity trousers for ever. Very first world problems but quite stressful and due to high mortgage, childcare and commute cost, probably going to be that way until LO goes to school. Unless of course DH can make his millions. sigh

Sheldon thanks for the heads up about nurseries - did some emailing and it looks like our local ones are also oversubscribed so I need to get on it right away and make some appointments.

Eig, JoJo, manda and Gummi hope you feel a bit better soon!
zoey how scary.

Having a bit of a mare of a day - got metaphorically chewed up in big meeting today, had to go and have a cry in the loos. Also our architect is coming round on Saturday to measure up (yeay!) but warned DH that the builder, who told us he could start work on Dec 3rd, told him that he couldn't even look at our house, let alone start, until after Christmas! Grrrrr......who knows what we will do.
Sorry to moan, chefette I am very jealous of Copenhagen, one of my favourite cities, and JoJo the baby bundle sounds lovely!

StealthToddler · 14/11/2012 14:26

Hi all quick one as procrastinating at work Grin

Got final test results and Baby is normal!!!! Still small but got another scan in 2 Mondays time.

zoey scary

Horrible finger tingling/carpal tunnel etc

Boo to builders.... At least ours are finally getting started bug surveyor has cocked up and forgotten one of the party wall awards!!!!

sundaesundae · 14/11/2012 15:15

Zoey, scary stuff!

Lexi budgets are scary, but at least with one you will be in control. It is scary thinking that right now this is the richest we will be for YEARS.

Stealth, yay!!!

Rainbowbabyhope · 14/11/2012 16:13

manda you should mention the pain under your ribs to your midwife. Likely to just be growth related like everyone else has suggested but upper-epigastric pain (pain right under your ribs) can also be associated with pre-eclampsia. Although its still early days for that some people do suffer from early onset and its better safe with this condition and never any harm checking with someone.

StormyBrid · 14/11/2012 16:21

Brilliant news, Stealth!

We're having all of the bad and none of the good of builders here at the moment - roadworks at one end of the terrace, and fixing the church roof at the other end. The noise is horrendous. So much for lie ins!

We've just been to view a house, and it looks grand. Location's perfect - it's two doors away, and right opposite my brother's. Fingers crossed the credit check goes smoothly, and we'll be in there by Christmas. And it has a bath! I miss baths. Really looking forward to being able to get started on the nesting thing.

JoJoBella84 · 14/11/2012 16:42

Builders have been and gone for today and looks like they've done a good job of the snagging list. 3 small jobs left to do for tomorrow and the electrician needs to come in just to finish off.
Should make for a happy mr JoJo and a relatively stress free night!! Just had a nap on the sofa! It was so nice :) can't wait to try out the new sofas now they've been delivered .

pinkpeony4 · 14/11/2012 17:11

Stealth fantastic news. We're your other boys small? One of my friends had 3 v small full term babies (all under 5lbs) & now they are above average in size.

Hope everyone else is ok. Just had a good chiropractor apt so fingers crossed my back will feel better for a few days Smile

LexiandBeanette · 14/11/2012 17:19

Great news, stealth! :)
