Aag Smegs so sorry Thanks it can't be much longer now! Brooking no argument for you.

Biscuitsandtinsel · 01/12/2012 09:57

Good luck smegs and sparks Smile

Stacks · 01/12/2012 10:40

Oh smegs silly hospital. We were told stress can stop labour, but I'm not sure I really believed it. Brooking LO will turn up today.

I managed to stay in bed most of yesterday learning to crochet, and am still in bed now. Just wish I could shift this cold :(

MissLToeishavingsantasbabyboo · 01/12/2012 11:24

Oh Stacks poor thing, are you no better? I can feel one starting, I was expecting something though after toddly boo being to poorly :( staying in bed and doing crochet sounds perfect though :):)

Sparks hope the scan was good and all is well with twinkle(s) Wink

Smegs really Brooking it all starts up again soon and you sneeze that baby out!

clickingtock · 01/12/2012 12:55

Smegs - rotten times for you but you are now going to get a xx/12/12 baby which is very nice in terms of numbers. 01/12/12 or 02/12/12 both look v nice don't they? Thanks for you. Stacks - I would say definitely believe that stress or changes to your environment can intervene significantly with labour progress unless you are a super chilled out person by nature. IMHO we are wild animals when it comes to giving birth, and the body goes into 'old mind' mode and is concerned about birthing in privacy and safety. I know it's personal opinion but I think that's why it's so hard birthing in front of people you don't know from Adam. I went into very strong contractions with DS from the start (every 4-5mins) and was fully dilated (he was pretty much crowning) when the MW arrived. Then contractions completely dried up, even though I knew her (as indie MW). In the end I 'consciously' pushed him out (no contractions) and because he was so close to being born it seemed to work but I think if we hadn't been that far advanced before she arrived my labour would have been longer. I found that birth is a strange experience where you learn that you are much less in control of your body than you imagine but that your body already knows what to do anyway and all the hormones and instincts are genetically imprinted, they just need the mind to 'cooperate' almost. It's all quite distracting when unexpected things happen or you are told stuff that you disagree with or someone else appears to be trying to take control of your body. I needed as much quiet as possible to stop distractions; didn't even want music (and we'd done a playlist for the occasion Wink ). Of course everyone is different and your experience will be unique so I'll stop waffling. Hope your cold improves FAST. I think rest is paramount rather than worrying about engaged babsters at this point.

Off to look at Whims.

Waves to all others and is looking out for scan news.

Biscuitsandtinsel · 01/12/2012 17:19

Awesome news sparks

they sometimes miss twins on scans

MissLToeishavingsantasbabyboo · 01/12/2012 17:23

Sparks that is brilliant news, congratulations. Scans are brilliant aren't they :):)

Stacks · 01/12/2012 18:03

Congratulations on the good scan sparks did you get any pictures?

smegs thinking of you.

boo hope your cold stays away, or that it's a single barely noticed sneeze :)

tock I know environment is important for labour, but I guess I thought once it started, in was unlikely to stop. Kind of point of no return. Would a cervix close again after opening? Can a baby stay in the birth canal for long? I thought distractions and stress would interfere with, rather than stop, labour I guess.

Still not really feeling any better. Had a little cry this afternoon because I just felt soo tired and sick, but DH was obviously grumpy at the mess in the house. I forced myself into productivity, even though he didn't say anything, but ugg!

I think the problem is I don't complain, so DH has no idea how bad I feel. I don't see the point in constantly reminding someone I'm ill, but I think it gives the impression I must me feeling better. If I'm not feeling better tomorrow I'll act line a man and whine all day Wink

TheLittleFriend · 01/12/2012 18:55

Great scan news sparks, really pleased for you. Smile

stacks definitely let do know your feeling poorly. I'm sure he is busy, but he really needs to be doing the tidying himself. Good practice for when you've got a baby stuck to your chest 12 hours a day and nothing gets done Wink

Still brooking like billio for smegs

I'm feeling rough today too, but I think it's side effects from the wc jab. I've a new found respect for kids having their preschool booster (that's what they're giving pregnant women). Dd will have hers soon..... Not looking forward to that!

MissLToeishavingsantasbabyboo · 02/12/2012 12:01

Any news Smegs?

clickingtock · 02/12/2012 18:24

Stacks - yes, I'm afraid the cervix can dilate then close again, usually in times of stress, trauma etc - instinct is v powerful. It's the impact of adrenalin on the whole process. Adrenalin has a role to play in birthing at selected intervals (around transition I think) but if it's triggered at the wrong time it can cause the cervix to get v shy. What you want is lots of oxytocin... all brought about by steady labour, trust, a good environment and feeling calm etc. I think the water birth really helped me with this. Oh, and yes, sadly, babies do get stuck in the birth canal. I have a couple of friends who dilated really well and made great progress but ended up with at least ventouse and one CS because of the baby just sitting in the birth canal (possibly too big or not twisting round). But don't worry about it now. Just imagine how - with the right circumstances - your body and baby knows what to do and will do their best. Sorry you are feeling so poorly. You do need to let your DH know; I'm sure he will be v sympathetic and it's not the same as complaining (I don't like to whinge either but sometimes silence doesn't help you get better.)

Sparks - huzzar! How wonderful - so pleased for you.

Smegs - keep at it girl. You're going to have no.2 in your arms any moment now.

Better go - DS is being bathed by granny and I feel I should help out with the lifting etc.

xxx

clickingtock · 02/12/2012 20:20

Stacks - just want to add there's always a degree of genetic 'luck' involved in every birth and there's no accounting for fate etc. My mum was v encouraging because she said birth didn't hurt, so I went with her opinion (and genes)! Wink She didn't like being induced at all (with me, no.3) and said that was the hardest of the 3.

Little - hope you get a good sleep and feel better tomorrow.

Boo - how are you doing?

xxx

GreenOlives · 02/12/2012 20:44

Brilliant scan news Sparks! Grin

Little Did your DD actually have slapped cheek virus? We had a note home from school a few weeks ago about it saying it was doing the rounds and I think DS now has it based on symptoms this weekend. What did your midwife say about it? The stuff on internet seems to suggest that the risk is much higher prior to 20 weeks so I don't know whether to worry or not! Am seeing consultant tomorrow for growth scan so will maybe mention it to him and see what he says.

TheLittleFriend · 02/12/2012 21:39

Hope your having newborn cuddles smegs

I've felt much better today thanks tock

olives it was my niece who def had slap cheek, and I spent 48 hours with her the week before the rash appeared. As dd didn't catch it i'm presuming she is also immune from prev infection, not that I remember her having it, but it can often be very mild.
Tbh, I really wasn't that worried even before I knew I was immune. As you say, it's not a high risk after 20 weeks. But the Mw did want the blood tests done, so they would know for sure if I was incubating it. I'm sure your consultant will give you some advice tomorrow x

Morning Brew well, what a weekend, DH forgot my advent calendar and I cried Blush we went to the Victorian Christmas fair on our local park it was lovely, and I have the most rotten cold :(:(

Smegs are you having snuggle time? Brooking for you that you are :)

How is everyone?

GenericDietCola · 03/12/2012 11:01

Brooking that Smegs has sneezed by now.

Well done re scan Sparks - always nice to get that first scan done! How are you feeling now? Ms any better?

Boo I hope MrBoo went and got you a lovely calendar after the tears! Glad you enjoyed the Christmas Fair - sounds nice. Shame re cold though.

Olives I am brooking that you won't get slapped cheek thingy. You've had enough health problems for now!

Stacks how are you now? Hope your cold is getting better and you've had a relaxing weekend.

Hello everyone else!

Only three weeks left of work for me - thank goodness, can't wait. MW appt today, so we will see if pesky minigen has moved head down, but I don't think it has. It seems to change position on a daily basis and spends most time in an oblique or transverse position. Ho hum.

SparklySanta · 03/12/2012 13:06

Thanks brookers

Yes we got lots of pictures, 8 I think!! and a DVD of the whole thing Xmas Grin because we went private for the first one because I have to wait a while till my nhs one and I didnt think I would cope!!

ms is definately easing up (touch wood) I still dont feel my usual perky self but I dont have to eat a biscuit first thing in the morning and the dash to the loo to throw it back up!! I'm finding sleeping a bit of an issue at the moment. I went to bed at about 9.30/10 last night, and I was shattered so fell to sleep pretty quickly, but then I was up at 3.30, had to get up to go for a wee, then couldnt get back to sleep till gone 4.45 (last time I looked at the time) then when I actually woke up this morning I felt dreadful but I think thats just cus Im tired.

Appetite is coming back now as well, but Im still not ready to tell work so worried about encouraging too much growth in the belly area.

Did anyone else dread telling work? I just feel so bad because Ive not been in post long (today is my third day) and I know their reaction isnt going to be entirely favourable!!

Smegs hope you have some good news for us, Im taking the silence as a good sign!!

Boo Sorry you're poorly, winter sucks!!!

Must get back to work

MissLToeishavingsantasbabyboo · 03/12/2012 13:30

Aah Sparks welcome to the world of preggo insomnia Xmas Smile

Mr boo has still not got me a calendar Xmas Sad but the shops locally have run out, I am on day 2 of stinking cold, so tomorrow should be better.

Gen 3 weeks, is that all, have fun winding down to leave!

Off to put up more decorations Xmas Grin

GenericDietCola · 03/12/2012 13:57

Ugh, Sparks, preggo insomnia is the pits. I've had it too on and off and you just want to sleep because you know you'll feel rubbish! When are you thinking of telling work? You don't have to tell them yet, you know. I think, from a legal point of view you don't have to tell them until relatively late. Maybe 24 weeks or something, but I appreciate you'll want to say before that. Do you think you could wait until after Christmas? If you're 11ish now, you'll only be 14 when you stop for Christmas and not showing much, so I reckon that would be reasonable. I waited until 14 weeks this time, but would have waited longer if I hadn't been showing!

Boo that is not good re Advent calendar, but he could always get you some chocolates instead!

Well, back from 34 week check and the MW reckons the baby is breech I'm not sure I agree though because this mornig's bout of hiccups was low down on the LHS , but she did not seem concerned and said they don't intervene until 37 weeks, so just need to brook that it will turn (and stay there) over the next 3 weeks.

Come on Smegs, update us!! Hope all is well.

whimsicalname · 03/12/2012 14:44

Hello everyone. Hope you had good weekends. The Victorian fair sounds lovely boo.

Enjoy your countdown to finishing work olives. I can't imagine doing a proper job at the moment - hard to believe I've managed it before!

We did a massive CostCo shop yesterday. Hell on Earth. and now my back and pelvis are really achy. Still, we have enough nappies to get through to potty training (possibly for the new baby, not just DS3 - they're big boxes!) and enough loo roll to keep even the Andrex puppy happy.

Welcome to the insomnia club sparks. Isn't it a pain! I know have a new problem waking me up in addition to needing a wee, randy dreams and leg cramps - trapped wind. Cor, it's a glamourous life isn't it!

Hope mini gen is on the move. Mine appears to be head down every time I go to the Ob, but I'm not sure it actually is the whole time - I get massive, visible movements that really hurt.

Hope you're feeling better too stacks and that all is well with smegs.

MissLToeishavingsantasbabyboo · 03/12/2012 14:49
