Seeing as practically all of us have now got pg, here is a new home for all of us to come to carry on chatting after getting the BFP after our mcs. Today we are pregnant! :)

wilde - if you find a quiet button let us know the exact location! I also love Etienne but there's an Irish girls name, Etain, which is v similar so with the whole being in Ireland, us not being French and it sounding like a girls name can't see DH agreeing to that one lol Have a feeling this one is a girl tho and for some reason I really love Welsh girls names so going to start sticking some on a list soon...

Sheldonella · 24/01/2013 14:28

Oh I do love name talk. I was worried about Sebastian sounding too posh but thought we could pull it off where we are. Leo was another one I liked but DH was having none of it unfortunately. We both love our girl name and I'm very glad we are going to get to use it. I've never met anyone with this name. We have a Welsh middle name we are planning to use :)

Etienne is nice but yes, I guess it depends on surname as to whether it suits. How did you both come up with the names of your DS?

WildeRumpus · 24/01/2013 14:51

Etienne works well with our surname but is a no no anyways. Bizarrely we chatted about names years before ds came along and both said we liked his name before we even met each other. Was v romantic and a no brainer :)

little quiet button seems to be plunking them outside :)

Aw sheldon is lovely you sorted out!

LittleMissSnowShine · 24/01/2013 16:39

Sheldon - Fab that you both agree on a name and now you are getting to use it! Although we didn't find out sex with DS i did have a feeling all along he was def a boy and both me and DH found it really hard to settle on a girls name. Right up until about 32 weeks we both liked a diff boys name (I like Shea/Shay and DS liked Cormac) and then DS's eventual name (Dara) just popped into my head all of a sudden and we both loved it, and then we gave him two middle names after both our dads. Hoping something similar will happen this time round - this time round I am def thinking of lots more girls names!

Wilde - Wow that is a happy coincidence for your DS's name! Pleased that you found a quiet button lol Just awake from my drug induced coma afternoon nap and my own toddler tornado of activity should be home with his dad in half an hour so I'll be looking for the off switch in about an hour's time lol

booboomonster · 24/01/2013 18:21

Loving the name chat too! I like all the names you guys have mentioned, though we are looking for a girls name rather than a boys. Are you in Ireland then snow? I didn't realise. My DH is Irish and would love an Irish name but I can't help but think they sound lovely when he says them and not so great when said by an English person. We did have an Irish name for a boy though - Tagdh which is pronounced Tie-g. I also like Orla but DH hates it, saying it is too common (in Ireland). I was interested in choosing a Welsh name as my parents are Welsh (in part), but nothing jumps out at me. Then we spend a lot of time in France and the kids attend a bi-lingual school so a French name could also work here. Having said that, the name we like best is Greek! We have one Biblical name and one Shakespearean name so far for our DDs so Greek seems to make sense! It's tricky! Specially when one keeps having the same sex...!

I thought OBEM was very explicit last night! It's good for research I think sheldon even though it might look a bit scarey. I reckon the more you know about how things could go, the more relaxed you'll be and the better birth will be. With a bit of luck thrown in. Will you tell us your girl's name? I would say the one we like except that whenever the names I like are mentioned in the names thread everyone universally seems to hate them!!

Glad the meds seem to be improving the situation snow.

Wild I have been struggling generally this pregnancy with noise - I seem to be oversensitive to it for some reason! So when the girls get giddy (specially in the pre-bed time period) I go a bit spare! I think the only answer is to wear ear defenders (I have not resorted to this - yet).

LittleMissSnowShine · 24/01/2013 19:13

boo - Well, I'm in Belfast but for the purposes of Irish names because they are in use both north and south then yes, it qualifies as Ireland Grin I quite like Orla too, tho like your DH i'm worried it's a bit over used over here. There don't seem to be quite so many younger Orlas though, I haven't run into too many little Orlas at baby groups and things like that. Tadhg is lovely too. But go on and tell us your name that you like, I'm sure we won't hate it!! Those name threads are awful - I didn't even ask anyone on there what they thought of DS's name, because once I'd settled on it, it sounded perfect to me and there was no way I was going to let anyone put me off it lol

Re: noise - I thought it was the nausea meds I was taking or the HG making me so tired but I've been really struggling with all the noise DS makes, even when he's just laughing and shouting his head off playing with DH. It really exhausts me somehow, don't know why, but I have to send them off to another room when it reaches a certain fever pitch!!!

booboomonster · 24/01/2013 20:31

Snow yes how funny re noise - I have found it very trying. And it makes me feel guilty when they are just having fun and being excited and I am finding it really hard to listen to...

Ok then, (don't tell anyone but...) the names I like are Hero, Hera and Electra. DH likes Juno and although I like it, I can't imagine using it. So we will probably go with Electra. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea and I'm not totally sold on it yet but these are literally the only names I can imagine, and as our surname starts with O I think it rules out Hero. I also quite like Violet but I can't see that as a first name. I don't really know why I like the names I like, but there we go!

WildeRumpus · 25/01/2013 11:05

Aw I love your names! They are very cool :)

Hero and Electra! Wow! :). snow I didn't know you were in Belfast. I like orla and tagdh too, lovely names. Dh came home with the name cassius which shocked me as I thought he would think that too posh and well, girlie. But then we have lots of 's's in our surname and it wont work. I interesting development tho!

Ds is tired, whiny and demanding today... Definitely a day i wish I was allowed some stiff drinks at the end of it! Cake will do tho :)

Am sensitive to noise when pg too! Need calm and peace a lot more. Loud soft play places make me feel really stressed, I think hormones make me seek peace to listen to the baby and stay grounded?

twentythirteen · 25/01/2013 17:36

Ooh (ducks back in for a sec) Boo, I've always liked Athena but don't think I would be brave enough. LOVE Hero, Hera and Seraphina! (ducks back out again to nosey back seat...)

LittleMissSnowShine · 25/01/2013 18:52

boo - I love Electra and Violet!

wilde - Ooh I always liked Cassandra, the female Cassius Grin Also would love a stuff drink this evening..sigh...

one - Seraphina and Athena are both gorgeous :)

Good scan for me today! Photos a bit rubbish because out little beanie is very active and was spinning and wriggling and kicking all over the place. Poor MW tried for ages to find a better angle or encourage baby into better position but we saw loads on the screen. Looks very like his/her brother, all long legs and very active. No wonder I was convinced I felt kicking the other night! Got a referral to physio because I had bad spd the last time so they are trying to resolve that before it becomes an issue and my next appt is in 4 weeks, tho I'll get my blood results in a day or two. Have decided not to have quadruple test too. I also have a new EDD of 9th August!

WildeRumpus · 25/01/2013 18:59

Hollar twenty always a pleasure :) what amazing imaginative names you all think of I love it.

Arf dh is poorly with ds's cold :( I did manage to cheer ds up today tho so hurrah.

snow what great news about your scan! Am so sorry, I did not know you had a scan today or would have wished you well! What great news for you.

Waving to ice. Hope post natal life is treating you ok chuck.

OP posts:
booboomonster · 26/01/2013 15:49

Hurrah so glad scan was good snow! Was that your 12 weeker?

Great to hear from you twenty - a friend has just used Athena, I like it too.

Have you got any names you like wild? I quite like Cassius actually. Or Casper...

Re names - I am probably influenced by the fact that we live in London and both work in the media - so perhaps more likely to be able to get away with unusual names! My brother is a teacher and he says that everyone has unusual names these days - it's almost more unusual to have a popular name - if that makes sense. Which should put me off going down the unusual route, but doesn't really.

Anyway, I am off to have a nap having been up for work at 6am this morning!

WildeRumpus · 26/01/2013 17:11

6am boo. Yack.

Altho saying that ds and being a housewife kicked off at 630 and am shattered! Am off duty after dins and shall kick my slippers off, have some cake and hot choc and watch call the midwife :)

I think we have a name! Can't believe it tho will have to sleep on it to be sure it isn't a whim. :) isn't unusual but isnt common and the nn is ace! Most pleased!

Hope everyone is well. Did anyone have more snow, we had loads last night was so beautiful to wake up to.

OP posts:
LittleMissSnowShine · 26/01/2013 20:04

wilde - Ooh a name!! Do tell, once you've slept on it that is!

boo - god yes you could get away with something very theatrical or totally off the wall and people will just nod sagely and say, media types, yeah.. Grin That is very cool! Tho the 6am start...not so much!!

ice - Yes, how goes it in new mum land? Hope you are managing to lurk on your phone between the late night feeds and you're doing well :)

Yes that was our 12 week scan yesterday and I'm 12+1. Made it out for the morning with DH and DS this morning, first time we've all done something nice together since just before xmas since the sickness kicked in really. Had to spend afternoon in bed afterwards cos the HG is exhausting, the meds make me tired and I was wrecked but def worth it to get out and about :)

booboomonster · 27/01/2013 11:46

That's fab snow, over 12 weeks already! huzzah, you are racing through Grin. Glad you got out, albeit for a short time. Hopefully in the next few weeks the HG will ease for you - fingers crossed!

Yes come on wild tell us the name?!

No news here. Baby kicking more - well, that I can fell at least, so that's good. I have put in for my mat leave at work, including some parental leave to make it a bit longer. I am quite excited about being off but also a bit worried about being lonely at home - I know people locally but everyone works and if they don't they have their own social scenes... I think I will have to do some befriending. But I also want to do the gym regularly so I am searching for a good gym with creche. I used two last time but one was very expensive, the other very scuzzy. I don't think any new ones have opened so will have to have a think/ research.

Yes hope you are doing well with the newborn Ice!

LittleMissSnowShine · 27/01/2013 17:04

boo - yes being at home can be lonely tho theres lots of baby groups and things to go to if you just really need another adult to talk to! Some days tho between feeding, winding, changing, housework, naps, getting yourself showered and dressed the time goes by unbelievably quickly!! Its a very twilight zone kind of time, maternity leave but mostly in.a v good way Grin

WildeRumpus · 29/01/2013 11:57

Hey ladies :)

Noooo I am not saying my name Grin I would tell people my DSs name before he was born and any remotely less than enthusiastic response woudl make me very upset so am keeping it schtum. Will probably change my mind anyway!!

Hope everyone is well. I am actually a lady that lunches at the mo as DS is a preschool and I, er, went out childless for lunch with my friend yesterday for the first time in months and months. Having proper conversations was amaaaazing Grin

Arf I am peed off with Uni - they have decided the best time to have my viva is when I will be 36 weeks preggo and living on the other side of the country. Oh crackers. I did have a date that meant I would be 34 weeks along which is not great but do-able, with time for the necessary corrections, but 36 weeks?! I had DS at 37 weeks last time and remember the SPD was making me cry. Couldn't sleep. Was a water retaining hippo. Hated to go far from the house... God it will be awful won't it. Then it turns out oh, ok do you want it in June, or Sept then. NO! I want it before my baby is born, not when he is one month, or four months, old! when I am breastfeeding?! And am not sleeping more than 3 hours a night?! WTF. It bugs me the way having a baby is being completely ignored, like I should be superwoman and suck it up and get on with it. Which I did with DS but am not going back there thank you very much. Bah.

36 weeks! (feel free to tell me how bouncy, with-it and utterly amazing I will feel at 36 weeks :()

OP posts:
WildeRumpus · 29/01/2013 11:58

ps boo we will be in the same boat. I am going to go to baby massage and stay and play and hopefully meet some new mums that way... or just sit around on MN when DS is at nursery hehe.

OP posts:
LittleMissSnowShine · 29/01/2013 18:08

wilde - 36 weeks!?! that is so thoughtless of them, i had my viva when ds was7 months and that was tough enough. stick to your guns!!

WildeRumpus · 29/01/2013 18:35

It is shit isn't it. Is all rather sexist I feel. I dint know whether, if people really can't meet before then, to suggest leaving it until Dec when the baby is 6/7 months and am more with it. But oh, dragging it out another year will be so depressing :(

How are you feeling snow? Have the meds worked? I hope you are better :)

OP posts:
LittleMissSnowShine · 29/01/2013 19:17

It really is such an old boys club, wilde! At my viva there was my first supervisor (man in his sixties), head of research graduate school (man in his forties), external examiner (man in his fifties) and internal examiner (man in his forties who kept asking me while I was doing my corrections if I 'wanted to meet for coffee...or a drink'?)

They neglected to even manage tradition of organising a dinner or a drink or anything after the exam, but luckily my husband was waiting downstairs with a big bunch of flowers and my mum, dad, sister and DS were all waiting at home for me with champagne and cupcakes! PhD is what you make it I guess lol

Meds are working a bit, wrecked today tho cos was up during the night with a sick DS and the lack of sleep or maybe being awake at strange hours seems to have really thrown me off today. I'll get an early one tonight tho and hopefully tomorrow will be better!!

WildeRumpus · 29/01/2013 19:31

arf snow I remember how being tired would make the symptoms that much worse. I hope you get some sleep tonight Thanks And that your DS is better soon...

yes it is an old boys club, even tho my dept is very liberal minded. Just stuff like the way you are meant to work like you have no life, and as a mum you have to really pretend you aren't and are always able to work all hours and be available for meetings/conferences etc. Is very stressful and I hated how much I would worry about not being able to go to stuff because i had DS.

Anyway now they say they can meet in March when I will be about 32 weeks. This is brilliant news!

DH has gone to london for a day or two so am on me todd with DS. Feels really weird!

OP posts:
WildeRumpus · 29/01/2013 19:40

BTW it is lovely your family were there for you after your viva! DH is coming up with me and we are having a big housewarming party the following weekend so is rather better timing :) If they say it is rubbish and needs complete rewriting tho I guess there won't be much to celebrate but you don't have another viva do you? So I guess just doing that is a big thing?

OP posts:
LittleMissSnowShine · 31/01/2013 12:45

wilde - i think the various scenarios are:

  1. pass with no corrections (hardly anyone gets this unless they are literally a genius or they did a PhD which is more or less pure equations that can't really be corrected) 2a) Pass with minor corrections to be completed within 3 months 2b) Pass with minor corrections to be completed within 6 months
  2. Pass but with major corrections to be completed an submitted within 12 months
  3. Re-submission - basically they think there is a viable PhD in there but there's a lot of work still to be done. You have to resubmit after 12 months and yep...re-do the viva
  4. MPhil - There is decent work in there but not enough to justify a PhD so they just give you an MPhil
  5. Complete failure (no one gets this, your supervisor would never allow you to submit the work if they had serious reservations about it)

I got 2b and I'm sure you will too (or maybe even 1!), esp cos my viva was also in March and they wanted me to get the corrections done within 3 months so I'd be able to submit final copy in June and graduate. However, with baby due I'm sure they would allow you an extension if they propose corrections you think will take more than a month or so to do. However, corrections or not, passing means celebrate! Party! Dinner out! Non alcoholic fizz!

WildeRumpus · 31/01/2013 16:18

Thanks snow! All my colleagues got a 1then. They are super brains. I hope to get. 2b. Did you know before the viva what kind of problems might need work or was it A surprise?

And anyway, how are your meds doing now?

Hope everyone is well! I have a poorly ds today poor thing. Cbeebies day. And I think my.bump.must have grown because I keep hitting it on things!

Sorry for typos am on phone. Arg
