cherry- I have heard about that now I think of it. The lady in the bed next to me after I had DD1 was Japanese and told me about it. She was disgruntled as she ended up with ventouse and thought her pelvis was too small.

Kyyria · 16/10/2012 16:26

Sending hugs Beeble - can imagine how frustrated you are!

Orenishii · 16/10/2012 16:30

Livvy I am Envy of your show. How far along are you?

Thanks for the vino Cherry - it's so interesting what they do in Japan, tell us more, tell us more!

I am thoroughly disillusioned with my MW - in a proper grump. It's not even anything, just the creeping pressure to go into labour naturally - sorry, birth!, not labour Wink. Have a sweep booked for next Tuesday and then she said at 41+4 they'll book an induction. I kind of made noises about "Oh well you know I'm not sure I want to do that..." She got all po faced on me, and when I questioned how come different MW/authorities had different lengths of time before they started talking about inductions, she got a bit annoyed.

So my plan - channel my inner TLC and tell DH I ain't too proud to beg (for sex), get the walking and swimming on and am even considering castor oil. Yes, I know - nasty tummy - but I don't care. Once they go down the road of induction with me in my authority, it's goodbye to home birth, pool and even the MLU.

All those with heartburn - seriously, I promise I am telling the truth - bitter herbs help so fennel tea has changed my life, I promise! Seriously! And it's also good for limbering the uterus up as well so genuinely, please give it a go. I was dying from heartburn and one cup a day has made the world of difference.

londonlivvy · 16/10/2012 16:37

Orenishii absolutely no show here, just additional discharge (which midwife says it just part and parcel of the glamour of late preg). So no need for jealousy! I'm 37+5 so I guess too early for all of that anyway.

Cherry I too think all these international variations are fascinating. Do tell us how you get on. In my experience, two of my smallest friends (a size 8 and size 10 respectively), popped out babies in under 4 hours with no stitches, tears, pain relief or anything. And my sisters with more generously proportioned hips (we're all a size 14 backside) ended up with help. So it's definitely got to be something to do with the internal birth canal space rather than external hip circumference and I'm intrigued to see how accurate they might be.

RIGHT. MUST STOP PROCRASTINATING. going to turn off internet and do my essays.

later, ladies. (PS You are all marvellous for the morale, btw - so glad you're there!)

Londonmrss · 16/10/2012 17:32

For anyone worried that they haven't had a show yet (and that includes me) my mum just told me that with both her pregnancies, she had a show on the evening of 39+1, started having contractions immediately and had both babies the next day. That was without any prior warning (literally nothing- no braxton hicks, no diarrohea, nothing). So that shows labour can just start suddenly!

Love reading all your updates ladies, have been checking back here constantly today!

All completely quiet with me. Feeling a bit down this afternoon. Why was I bleeding do heavily? Why did it stop? Why do I have high blood pressure suddenly? When will I have my baby? Nobody can tell me any answers to this. Sad All I want right now is to be one floor downstairs on the postnatal ward with my little boy in my arms, and DH next to me. I would gladly take a horrid induction, tearing or a section right now if it meant I could have that tonight. Sad

Sorry for the self-indulgent rant. Thank you also for all your lovely messages of support, they're keeping me sane!

Orenishii · 16/10/2012 18:09

Awww zara love, I'm not a fan of hospitals or medicalisation but you're in the right place. You might never know the answers to these questions, but in the end - all that matters is a healthy and happy mum and baby come out the other end, and that will happen for you soon. You won't stay pregnant forever - and not for very long by the sounds of it :)

You just concentrate on keeping yourself calm and trust the doctors/midwives. Calm mother, calm baby, right? So whatever happens, you're a warrior, you'll get through it, and you will be down on the floor below with your baby and DH very soon :)

londonlivvy · 16/10/2012 21:31

oh zara it's a tough time for you, no doubt about it. I'm sure the docs are doing what they think is the best for both of you. hugs Orenishii is right - keep calm and trust in them. You'll get there in the end.

Meanwhile, I've completed one essay and done one lesson plan. Two more to go.

And had a text from the handyman with the quote - much higher than I'd thought. Humn. Will have to ask DF when he gets home what he thinks. Rip off because he knows we're a bit up to the wall on getting these jobs doe? I'm rubbish at confrontation / negotiation with tradesmen. Tips?

londonlivvy · 16/10/2012 21:57

Ha. proud face I challenged the builder, saying quote much higher than expected, had expected x and so he's come back and said "oh did I text y? My bad I meant z" (fifty quid less). So will check with DF when home but looks like we're game on to get those jobs done on Friday. Hurrah for holding my negotiating game. Work does teach you some stuff!

Sorry for very off-topic-ness!

Hope everyone had a good day and no-one is still working? (Mickey, think you were the only one left being keen).

Tomorrow I am going to finish these blasted lesson plans and be done with it!

Beccus · 16/10/2012 22:28

wow, huffle's and midget's babies must have arrived, so exciting!!

yomping, sounds like u r getting ever closer, too :)

hugs, zara, you've had a crappy time of it, love. Being in hospital sucks, but it is the safest place for you and LO while you are having all these mysterious signs.

cherry, hope u get a proper sleep tonite, makes such a difference to how u will feel.

What's with all the colds, people?

After feeling sorry for myself all day yesterday and spending the day in bed, today has been much better. Went for a coffee with dad and made it to preggy yoga.

I find taking it one day at a time really helps, you can feel totally shit one day, but normal again the next....which is weird - if u have a cold, or a 'normal' pain, you feel crap for a bit and then slowly get better. With pregnacny, you can have random, severe aches and pains, feel totally rubbish one day and then feel fine the next.

londonmrs, cherry and livvy, i totally agree we should be enjoying the baby free mat leave as long as we can and trying not to be too impatient - it's an opportunity to take care of ourselves, have lots of naps, cook and eat well.

orienshi, maybe your grumpy midwife is just booking (making a date) for induction at 41+4, rather than scheduling it in for 41+4. I though most places were pretty cool about letting us go to 42?

bella, u sound like u r doing well, dd buddy - i would not have the energy to organise such a mamoth party at the mo...sounded like fun, though, would have happily come as a guest x

londonlivvy · 16/10/2012 22:33

Oh and have had to fit both cat nets to the buggy already as cat decided that it looked like a cozy place to sleep. Harrumph. The buggy's been there several weeks and I thought it had escaped his interest. Sadly not. Makes me a bit nervous about having to have eyes in the back of my head when baby is here.

Ah well. Lots of folk have babies and cats and manage ok, right? (please please let one of you lovely existing mums tell me you've had cats and it was fine).

Sorry about prolific posting today. Clearly on homework-avoidance tactics.

Midgetm · 16/10/2012 23:59

master midge arrived at 7.42 after they broke waters at 1.30, got duped into
No drugs but needed ventouse and Then placenta refused to shift so ended up in surgery anyway! Ironically had a full spinal. Baby perfect and lovely and all worth it. I'm still on recovery but have him with me Grin

MickeyTheShortOne · 17/10/2012 01:30

Hi ladies a quick update from me as my phone is dying- im in labour!!!!!!!!! 1cm dilated which usually isnt a cause for concern but as i am still classed as pre-term until thursday and the babys heart rate was slightly erratic they are keeping me in tonight and will do more monitoring in the morning- this is og course these contractions dont get any worse or more frequent!! Going to try abd sleep now... See what happens! Hope you are all ok xxxxxxx

Smorgs · 17/10/2012 04:00

Wow midget congratulations! Sounds like it was a bit dramatic at the end but you sound very together about it, and that's great your little one is next to you! Hope you're out of recovery soon. Congratulations and welcome master midget!

mickey exciting! Hope everything goes well, looking forward to updates.

zara big hugs to you, I've been reading over last few days but no time to post but have been thinking of you. Hope everything goes ok and you get to meet your little one soon, you're in the best place as everyone says.

orenishiii hey due date buddy, was trying to work out how we have the same weeks but diff due dates then remembered that the 1st date I was given was 16th and my What to Expect... app is still set to that.

cherry hope you're feeling bit better.

Well I'm due today but it doesn't feel like it. Bump has grown loads in the last week or so - I was another one getting the 'are you sure you're due when you are? Your bump looks very small?' Ha, no longer! Just spent the last few days saying 'goodbye - see you on the other side' to people, which feels odd? I'm still trying to get my head round the fact there's a real live baby in there - I mean I have seen the scan pics, had the tests and apparently I look very pregnant, but then again I have been eating a lot recently? It could just be a food baby, right?

Wide awake right now but dh has decamped to the spare room (suspect I've been snoring) so am going to read for a bit and try and drop back off. My hips are in AGONY right now!

LoopyLa · 17/10/2012 07:16

Morning Ladies Smile

Midget far from depressing me, it really helps me to know what to look out for, although I?m sorry for what you?re going through! ...reads a later post And congratulations on the birth of Baby Midget!!

Mickey EEEEEKKK!!! Sounds like things are kicking off, hope you & baby Mickey are ok?

Zara big big hugs girl, I hate hospitals too & so frustrating not getting answers.

LondonMrss I have to say, at 38+3 I?m not feeling too impatient yet especially knowing that baby is not engaged yet. I?m happy to wait for my due date to come but I can see myself getting pissed off if I go 1 day over, lol!! Interesting to note your MW remark about a mother?s labour and your own. My mum had 4 kids so can?t see where I?d get similarities from BUT my pregnancy has pretty matched hers ? funny eh? Neither of my sisters had the same pg?s as my Mum though Confused

Bella I?ve also not done peri massage yet either. When I was at work I had no time, and now I have no inclination ? maybe I need to just bite the bullet but do wonder at this point if it will help at all?

londonlivvy we always had cats in our family as children and apparently when I was a baby, our 2 kittens used to sleep at the bottom of my pram (like sentinels guarding me my Mum said Smile) This was in the 1970?s though when the Nanny state didn?t exist!! Wink

Thanks for your advice, as always Thanks. Sadly DH?s boss is the least most understanding bitch woman on the planet but if I have contractions and they turn out to be part of a latent labour, there?s nothing much they can do about it.

How are you doing today Yomping/Lizzie/Oren/Cherry and anyone else who I might have missed (sorry Blush)

Spesh hello to Kyrria, how?s the coursework going???

Kyyria · 17/10/2012 07:22

Morning all

Congrats to those whose little ones have made an entrance (am on phone so.difficult to name check)!

loopy coursework has barely been touched...can't be bothered! Going to try and make a dent in it today.

hufflepuffle · 17/10/2012 07:26

Hi all! Just to let u kno a lovely little snuffly huffle boy was born at 1.31am weighing a whopping 9lb 3. Despite early 3cm wonder, things ended up tricky. But I am so pleased and in love!! Hav had 2 hrs in theatre post birth but thankfully did feed him first. He is so v v long and his daddy's double!!! DH and I tired emotional wrecks after 2 nights awake!!! He has gone home to sleep, MWs being star troopers with me. Love to you all, hope to catch up with new babies soon!! Xx

YompingJo · 17/10/2012 07:52

Midget and huffle, big congrats, really pleased for you both! Envious that you have met your beans at long last too, bet it is amazing Smile. Looking forward to hearing more, but get yourselves rested first! Glad you are both OK.

Smorgs · 17/10/2012 07:56

huffle that's wonderful news congratulations! Welcome baby huffle! Sorry you ended up in theatre afterwards though Sad get well soon! Xxxxx

smileyhappymummy · 17/10/2012 07:59

Congratulations to huffle and midget and welcome to new babies! Looking forward to hearing more and hope you can get some rest today.

londonlivvy · 17/10/2012 08:59

Midget Congratulations on your arrival and glad you have bean with you. That?s fab!
Congrats to huffle too and so glad that huffle junior is here safely. LORDY re 9lb3! Clearly you make a great incubator.

Oooh Mickey do let us know when you can.

Smorgs I wonder that too, sometimes ? is this all real? Is this actually happening? Then I terrify myself with the prospect of actually having to look after a small baby on my own for years. EEK. (ok, not actually on my own, but DF is around so rarely it may as well be).

Loopy you see I don?t mind the idea of cat fluff, it?s more that the cat is fat (over 5kg) and so sitting on her might not be genius plan. Sadly the cat nets that I was given are somewhere between entirely useless and pointless. HUMN.

Day hasn?t started well. I fidgeted half the night so DF was tired and didn?t kiss me goodbye. Then discovered we have a speeding fine from our trip to france in April. No big deal ? only 45 euros ? so thought I?d just pay it. I went onto the website and typed in the info but didn?t get confirmation page so now don?t know whether I?ve sorted it or not? I got about 4 hours sleep so feel dreadful but must summon the energy to go to the local mums & babies group as will really need the friends.

Londonmrss · 17/10/2012 09:31

Yippee for Midget and Huffle! Well done girls, bet you were brilliant.
Mickey, keep us posted- hope you're ok!

OP posts:
Smorgs · 17/10/2012 09:38

Blimey livvy from April?! Surely there is some statute of limitations on speeding fines? Let me know if I can help translate anything.

Pretty cross with dh this morning. Am trying to use façon italienne (ie sex) to bring on labour and he was 'too tired' last night and requested 'prior notification' of when I need his services. Wtf? There is nothing quite so humiliating as begging for sex when you're approaching the size of a hippo.

Zara1984 · 17/10/2012 09:39

Congratulations huffle & midget!! Lovely lovely news Thanks - make sure you both rest up well!

Thinking of u midget Smile

londonlivvy yeah the cat net I bought is pretty useless too. Not sure how the cat/baby integration is going to go with my 2 furry ones - they're already miffed that they don't get to sleep in the crib! I bought one of those feliway diffusers which DH is convinced is just expensive snake oil.

Well news is good and also still annoying at my end. All still stable so I get to go home tomorrow, have to come back to the high blood pressure day care unit tomorrow though. Didn't stop me sobbing and begging the doc for an induction this morning Blush to no avail. B/c am not yet 39 weeks and everything else stable they're concerned I'd just end up with an unnecessary section. My brain gets where they're coming from, but every other part of me feels quite hard done by Sad. All I want is my squidgy baby on the outside!

My friend is going to make me lunch & look after me when I get home though, which is nice Smile

Ok, going to repeat what I said when I was discharged on Sunday.... the next time I'm in here I want the baby to be extracted!

Zara1984 · 17/10/2012 09:42

Brain is not functional. I get to go home today, waiting for DH.

Going to get m/w to examine me before I go, just in case. Feeling quite errr juicy this morning and I don't trust any liquids that emerge from my fanjo right now.
