Oooh, good luck Huffle, it's all kicking off now!

And good luck for hopefully natural, possible induction today Midget. You can do it!!

Can't wait to check in later today and see what's been happening. It will cheer me up as I'm having my first pregnancy poor-me-I've-had-enough episode.
My heartburn, after being manageable for a couple of months, has ramped up significantly in the past couple of days and is now very refluxy - can't even bend over briefly without the worry of something (v. Painfully) coming up, nevermind lying down.
Had to try sleep sitting upright last night, which didn't work and now I have a sore neck and am so tired. On top of that, I have a cold with really sore throat. And finally, there is so much to do at work this week to get ready for my maternity leave. Said busy week will be nicely topped off by a massive Halloween Party for 70 kids, in costume, in a big, sweaty hall on Friday.
Sad
Sorry, I shall be more positive later, I promise! Grin

LoopyLa · 16/10/2012 07:16

Morning all!

Empathies to those ladies whose DP/DH's are 'planning' things around due dates etc. I suddenly had horrendous similar worries myself last night. My DH works in London so if I went into labour, it would take him at least 2 hours to get home. But how will I know if its proper labour or just latent labour that could last for days??? How will I know to make that call? Confused Confused

I shall post this on the PN thread too for some advice, I really don't want to end up giving birth alone in my house Shock

Kyyria · 16/10/2012 08:12

Morning all Smile

hugs and Thanks to all who are struggling, in the imminent stages of labour or who are just plain fed-up.

Loopy my DH works over an hour away (if the traffic is good) so I'm worrying a bit myself. After the last few days of pains and cramping I'm figuring that the real thing will be slightly more obvious...

At the moment I'm getting vague crampy pains that, although uncomfortable, are not regular and are not so painful that I have to stop what I'm doing - I figure if the real thing was happening they would get stronger and I would struggle to do normal things through them. Also the pains I'm getting aren't continuous - i'm getting the cramping for a couple of hours and then it goes away for a bit - proper contractions would be more regular.

That said, they did keep me awake at 4am this morning!

Yes I'm currently feeling uncomfortable and the pains are annoying me (particularly if they are going to go on for days/weeks!) but i'm doing normal stuff so know if must be pretty low level.

I must get coursework done and dusted today - I am absolutely paranoid that this LO is going to make an early entrance and I don't want to be thinking about coursework instead of enjoying my time with him. Getting it done and out of the way is also guaranteed to make him go overdue!! Grin

32, 38+2, #1

Midgetm · 16/10/2012 08:26

Not wanting to depress you but I've been in latent labour for a week now. Which has included hours of contractions very close together. However, been painful but not take your breath away painful or double over so never been enough to go in. Best thing to do is take a bath and if they stop you know they aren't real. Real ones will come back again with a vengeance when you get out. It is as frustrating as hell.

Well I have my bag packed. Leaving for the big breaking of the waters this morning. Really choked me up saying goodbye to DD. she looked so grown up with her little suitcase in her school uniform and kept taking about maybe never seeing me again! Kids eh?

Right here's hoping for a healthy baby, no matter how he may end up coming out....

Zara1984 · 16/10/2012 09:11

Best of luck midget! You will do GREAT today & be home with new bubba and your little girl very very soon! Smile Thanks

Ok promising update. Saw consultant this morning & doc that saw me yesterday when I arrived. Biophysical Profile Ultrasound all fine. Head not fully engaged, so that's why they won't induce today (unless I start bleeding again - in which case consultant wants baby out). But if head engages more over the next day or so they will induce ASAP. Going to be kept in for next 24-48 hours cos of high BP & bleeding was so severe (even tho stopped now). Looks like they are not going to make me go home and wait for normal labour anyway. Esp when I started crying Sad & told consultant how scared I was yesterday.

So - I need to get this baby's head engaged and then I can get induced! Currently 3/5. Tips?!? Walkies round hospital all day? Get DH to bring in Swiss ball?

Beeblebear · 16/10/2012 09:22

Good luck midget

Xa ra, sorry I are stuck in the hospital, but glad you are getting the monitoring you need

Cherry is Halloween a big thing in Japan like it is here?

Well I have been will en up with bh steadily every 10 to 12 minutes for the last hour, and my stomach feels quite upset.. Got up for a glass of water and hear some thing under our cupboards gnawing away at the wood. Not going to be a restful night will probably spend the rest of the night on the couch

LoopyLa · 16/10/2012 10:39

For Zara & London Mrss (as you were asking also), here are the tips I was given yesterday by the helpful not my usual midwife. This is for my baby to get into Optimal Foetal Positioning?

Rock from side to side on your birthing ball.
Get on hands & knees and rock from side to side.
Kneel on the floor leaning over a large beanbag, cushion or ball to watch TV.
Regularly use forward leaning & upright postures.
Sit with knees lower than hips with back straight as possible. Use pillows/cushions under your bottom & in small of your back to stop slouching.
Sit on a dining chair facing the back.
When resting/lying on your side, favour the left side as much as possible.
It is ideal to use forward leaning posture when having BH as this encourages baby to manoeuvre into optimum position.

Hope the above help! Smile

Orenishii · 16/10/2012 11:57

Good luck to midget today, oooooooh it's so exciting. Latent labour sounds like frozen yoghurt - all tease but none of the ice creamy satisfaction! In that I mean - it's just been teasing you for the last few days without any promise of the real thing. God, that analogy was rubbish! Good luck, so exciting to be seeing your baby soon.

Zara also, either way, it looks like things will be happening for you :) Best of luck love, however it goes. I wish for the best birth you can have but you're going to have your baby soon and that's a wonderful thing :)

Londonmrs you actually gave me pause for thought last night and for that I thank you. I like your approach of encouraging your DH to go out and I actually feel like I have been a bit hard on him. The truth of the matter is, he's no further away at the party than he is when he is at work - we're in south London and he works in W Hampstead. He can get a cab back, and even if things progress quickly it's not likely to take him any longer to get back than from work anyway.

Orenishii · 16/10/2012 11:58

Forgot to say - due date today, feeling sicky and upset stomach, also feeling a little wired but not expecting anything. Just going to cook, see MW and swim.

YompingJo · 16/10/2012 13:08

(hit "post" too soon) - they happened every 6 minutes for half an hour! Eek! Didn't say anything to DH as have given him a hard time over last couple of days, because every time I wince or make a noise or look like something is painful, he says "is it a contraction?" and he's driving me batty with it. But then I went upstairs to the loo (during a contraction, fuck that was painful, they felt fine when I was sitting down!) and after that they stopped. Exciting/weird. Think they may have been the mild contractions that get the cervix effaced, rather than the more "proper" ones that get it dilated. But anyway. Even tiny signs of progress are welcome!

Today we went into town to get a new, bigger bathroom bin as I suddenly got worried that our tiny one wouldn't cope with the onslaught of tena pants/telephone directory sized maternity pads (Zara, that made me laugh out loud!) and another pair of the yoga pants from Mamas & Papas that are pretty much all I wear at the moment. Nesting instinct still in place as I spent £30 on fancy cleaning cloths from John Lewis too (may have just been prolonging the visit there in case waters broke!)

Tomorrow, off to hosp for a trace as according to Stupid Early Scan Date (TM), we will be 40+12 even though going by LMP we will only be 40+2. Might get to see consultant too to be brow beaten into induction have induction suggested.

I would let DHs go to parties/do races and stuff, personally - if they are anything like mine, they will have been absolute troopers so far and deserve a little "off" time while it is still possible, and also it's very likely that labour will start very slowly and you will have plenty of time for them to get back. Just my tuppence worth, and I think a 3 hour race with no phone is a bigger deal than just going out for the night, but still, very unlikely to all kick off at that point with such speed that they can't get back in time. I am stupidly laid back about this maybe...

Hope everyone is good.

YompingJo · 16/10/2012 13:09

Oh fuck, totally buggered that post up...

YompingJo · 16/10/2012 13:10

Here's the first part of my post, I previewed it by accident and thought it had posted so deleted it and just posted the second half. Nobber Of The Day?

**

Hi all,

FX for huffle and midget today, and Zara, hope you feel calmer, I reckon get DH to bring in swiss ball - or 2 space hoppers and you can have races around the ward

Orenishii, lol at frozen yoghurt. Never had time for it, give me proper ice cream any day - hmm, guess I'm going to find a long latent stage a real pisser!!!

Well I've woken up with a cold. WTF? Is there not enough physical shit to deal with at 40+1 without having a cold too? Got quite excited yesterday evening, was sitting watching Resident Evil 3 (as you do) with hands under bump and felt it tightening and drawing upwards during one of those BH-contraction-or-baby-stretching moments - which is a good way to find out which it is, bump wouldn't draw upwards like that if baby stretching. Anyway, it happened a couple more times and seemed regular, so I glanced at the DVD player timer and started to log when they were -

Lizzietow · 16/10/2012 13:28

yomping- due date pal, hope you feel better soon! A cold is a right bugger. They are a total pain- why doesn't someone find a cure?!
Quick question- does a show always have pinky stuff in it? I def just lost a load of mucus and shitting myself now as I also had strong BH's all night and felt sick too. But mucus was clear.

Londonmrss · 16/10/2012 13:41

Happy due date Oren! Try not to focus too much on it though.
Good luck huffle and midget, I eagerly await news from you both! Also anxious to hear from Zara- hope you're ok, love.
Yomping, sounds like things are getting going with you too!
Grrr, am a bit jealous of you all to be honest. I went for another long 6 mile walk today- either it might get things moving, or it will at least keep me fit and mobile. But honestly still no sign of anything.
Who are the other late October ladies? Mickey, Livvy, Cherry, Loopy, Kyyria, Liege, how are you all doing? As impatient as me?
Does anyone know if labour and birth relates at all to how your mum's labour and birth went? My midwife implied there could be a relationship...

bella2012 · 16/10/2012 14:07

hey yall!

Wow this is all getting exciting!

huffle and midget massive good luck to you both. Really hope it all goes well for you guys. Can't wait to hear from you on the other side.

Wahoo for you yomping! I really hope that this is it! With your change of dates it feels like you have been due forever, I bet you feel the same. Big hugs to you and well done for being so patient with DH's persistant questions! Bless him! Mine answers the phone every time by saying 'Is anything happening?' to which I still have to reply 'no' sigh.

So londonmrs I am with you. No BH or any symptoms yet. Trying to just enjoy the calm before the storm. My DH reminded me that this time 3 years ago I was on my third day of labouring. It is our ds's birthday tomorrow, one day before my due date this time around. Crazy to remember all of that!

cherry you are always so lovely and upbeat, I am so sorry to hear you are having a down day. All of that sounds pretty crappy. Has your mum stocked you up with gaviscon etc? The offer is always there for a postal delivery! Just say the word. I so hope you get a bit more sleep tonight you poor thing.

zara how is it going? Glad they are listening to you and exploring all the options. loopy's tips for engagment look pretty good. Thank you for that

I am so crap at all of the things I am supposed to be doing.. i just feel Too busy with my ds to do anything right i am always up and down to the loo with him or playing on the floor and I am never in the optimum position.. Plus I haven't done peri massage, eaten any pineapple or drank any rasberry leaf tea. yomping I think I am nobber of the week never mind nobber of the day. And sex is out as I have bloody thrush AGAIN and apparently I can't have the pessary. And, much to my embarrassment I have developed piles. Yeurch! That is what you get for having had to take iron for two thirds of your pregnancy and for rushing around with a heavy baby wedged between your legs. Of all the symptoms, I reeeeally hate this one. So more prescriptions for me.

Did any of you watch downton abbey???? Bloody hell, I could have lived without that this week I tell you!

Right, better go and try and tidy my midden of a house while ds is asleep. Then my man is in tonight thank god so I will be able to sit and sew DS's advent calender and watch the great british bake off in peace. Or perhaps I will go into labour, but I think the former is more likely.

Big love to you all xxx

londonlivvy · 16/10/2012 14:29

Hello.

yomping I too have a cold and Bella I have Thrush of Doom too. So I feel terrific. And a bit lonely tbh. DF was out at uni last night, tonight he has his cycle team celebratory dinner (they won a thing) and tomorrow night is uni again. Sigh. Am trying to be understanding but this is gonna be a long two years. So I got up when he did and chattered over brekkie and then went back to bed as felt crappy.

Since then I have STILL been avoiding my coursework (bad Livvy) but I have done a big fish pie batch so that's in the freezer.

londonmrss Absolutely zero happening on the contractions front but am fine with that! I am enjoying what is apparently going to be my last rest in ten years. Good for you on the energetic hike front! Very impressed. I may waddle to the pharmacy later.orenishii I had debated a swim today (indeed had out it on my list of things to do to keep me sane) but sore throat and thrush aren't a winning combo so will try a walk instead.

lizzietow I think a show tends to have pinky stuff. The midwife told me more discharge in late pregnancy is normal.

Bella I so know what you mean re downton. Bad timing for us! I sobbed and shouted 'It's pre-eclampsia you fools' at the screen but they didn't listen. Hurrah for the less stressful GBBO tonight.

yomping I hope your contractions start doing their thing soon. And you're right, I need to just let DF do his thing. I am just tired, feeling unsettled and a bit lonely but I will be fine. We don't tend to have quick births in my family (quite the opposite - it tends to be salad servers at the ready) so I'm sure three hours here or there won't make any difference.

Kyyria · 16/10/2012 14:47

Hi lizzie - depending on what you read a show can be pinky/brown with a bit of blood in, but it can be clear. I was reading up yesterday as i am 99% certain I had a show - like you it was clear so I wasn't certain, but (and here goes the TMI klaxon again) there was quite a big globule and the best way to describe it was that it looked similar to the nasal mucus you get when you have a cold (jelly like yet stringy...not green and full of bogies!!) Hmm [smille]

londonmrss I am horrendously fed up and impatient. 12 days to go until due date, have had cramping/BH since saturday, and am fat and uncomfortable!! I've heard talk about labours following a similar pattern to your mothers but no idea how true that is. My mum was induced early with both me and my sister (pre-eclampsia) yet had my brother naturally. He was near enough on time (don't know the exact dates) but was so fast in terms of labour that she nearly had him in the car on the way to hospital, whereas the inductions with myself and my sister had taken a couple of days.

londonlivvy I too am procrastinating over coursework. Have been sitting in front of the laptop all day and have so far only managed to write an introduction. Can't be bothered - it's about corporate strategy which I kow very little about and what I do know is boring the pants off me. Forcing myself to sit here though as really really want to get it done and out of the way before the little one turns up.

squidkid · 16/10/2012 15:07

Hello -waves-

I miss all of you and think about you often. The late pregnancy bit is really tough and it is much better on the other side (though hard work in its own way). Not going to name check everyone but sounds as if things have kicked off for huffle and midget so thinking of you both. zara I'm so sorry about all the stress and worry and hope you are being well looked after in hospital.

yomping you are a model of patience and sense and I really think you have put yourself in the best possible position for your birth. I've been reading your worries on the other thread (the late pregnancy one) and it is such a scary unknown... I also felt like you about the physical challenge of labour, excited and looking forward to it, but I didn't get round to doubting myself beforehand (though I was plenty grumpy/anxious about other things, like induction) so I suspect you will be more prepared than me! I think it is very sensible to start at home if that's where you feel sensible and start from the position of aiming for no pain relief... you are least likely to have interventions, but you haven't closed off any options - you can always go to hospital any time you like. Anyway I am probably less than helpful talking from the other side but I just wanted to say I don't think you are being naive or unrealistic at all, I think you are taking the best approach there is.

As for all the twinges/BH/tightenings -gah, they're frustrating aren't they? I had my most impressive run of contractions 6 whole days before I went into labour. My show (which wasn't pink, like a huge glob of snot) was 4 days before. But other people just, BAM! start with labour straight off without any signs. You can go mad trying to interpret it all. Just listen to hypnobollocks and rest as you can and go out for nice meals. I'm inclined to say don't worry about the other halves getting anywhere in time because my labour took 30 hours Angry but even "quick" labours are usually 3 or 4.

If I'm being patronising/annoying please tell me to nob off! Having a nice break from baby with mum up for a whole week. Oh yeah, if any of you have helpful mums or mum-in-laws or other relatives, BOOK THEM. Actually got some sexy-time with boyfriend this morning! (though no sex, let's not be crazy)

Cherrychopsticks · 16/10/2012 15:19

Thanks Bella, I think I was just overtired this morning. Feeling a bit more upbeat now, but not particularly looking forward to going to bed tonight. I have no Gaviscon or anything, but I've got my checkup tomorrow so I shall try and get a prescription for something.
Poor you re. thrush and piles! Sad Not surprised sex is off the menu!
I have also not started perineum massage yet, keep thinking I'll start tomorrow...

LondonMrs, I'm due Oct. 30th but TBH I'm quite happy to plod along for another 2 or 3 weeks (though I'm sure that'll change soon!)
Aside from last night, I'm quite enjoying being pregnant and have been really trying hard all the way through not expect/look forward to anything IYSWIM, kind of "I'll believe it when I see it". I am so excited to meet Baby though, just trying not to think about it. DH, on the other hand, has been telling Baby to come out since he got back from France...Hmm

Beeble, Halloween is getting popular here in a commercial way - the Japanese enjoy dressing up, and love seasonal food/gifts etc. But it's definitely a big thing in the English teaching world, as it's a foreign cultral event to learn about.

Zara, glad you have a clearer plan of action and seem to be happy with it. Fingers crossed for you.

Eagerly awaiting your news Midget!

Happy due date Oriniishi Wine

Having my pelvis measured tomorrow to see if it's up to the job. Should be interesting.
Right, I'm off to have some medicinal Maltesers before bed. I'm sure that'll do wonders for my heartburn.
Seems like there are a lot of colds going about, take care all, Brew Biscuit

Lizzietow · 16/10/2012 15:27

Had more show and it definitely had pinky brown stuff in it this time! Eek! Sort of really scared but at the same time want it over with. Although I realise it could be a good few days yet (bugger!) as squid says.
It's a strange state to be in, late pregnancy. Just been out for a walk and felt kind of surreal, as though everyone else is normal and I'm not! Envy

Lizzietow · 16/10/2012 15:28

cherry how come you're having your pelvis measured? That sounds interesting!

Cherrychopsticks · 16/10/2012 15:36

Lizzie, it's just something they do here (in Japan) as standard. They reckon by some sort of special scan and measuring, then measuring baby's head, they can tell whether you can deliver the baby naturally or would be better off having a CS.
I shall let you know how I measure up tomorrow!

Kyyria · 16/10/2012 15:36

These cramps are driving me crackers.

Am consoling myself by inhaling jaffa cakes...

Londonmrss · 16/10/2012 15:45

Cherry and Livvy- I'm going to take a leaf out of your book. I'm mobile enough to still be really active, and I'm enjoying being off work for the first time in years. Only real discomfort is a bit of heartburn and obvious bump issues (turning over in bed, getting out of a chair, putting socks on difficulties...) so I shouldn't really complain. Instead of just being impatient all the time, I should enjoy this time!
Cherry, interesting that they measure you- I think they only look at pelvis here is baby doesn't engage as that can suggest your hips are too small. Is it because women are structurally a bit tinier where you are I wonder?

OP posts:
Beeblebear · 16/10/2012 16:14

Well 5 or 6 hours of "false contractions" last night every ten to twelve minutes and all i got out of it this morning was a giant .. No show yet so still could be days. Nurse said after show is typically still three to four days away .
