Yay loopy for head down baby!! Enjoy your maternity leave!

YompingJo · 12/10/2012 17:15

It's OK to get annoyed with hate everyone who is giving birth before me who is meant to be giving birth after me, right?

Just found out that second person in NCT group popped yesterday. Sheesh. Will everybody just wait their turn and stop having babies until I have had mine? Confused

huffle, feel chastened, didn't know about the infant eczema thing - still don't want to be induced but it's an extra thing to think about, thank you for mentioning it.

Shock at putting EPO up fanjo. How have we managed to miss that? Mind you, surely quite enough going up there currently what with peri massage oil on my thumbs, plus occasional sex! What I want is something to be COMING DOWN THERE VERY SOON! Come on baby, you're letting me down, other babies are beating you to it! Your parents are both OCD-type always-on-time people. Where have you managed to get this laid back attitude from?

smileyhappymummy · 12/10/2012 17:42

Hurrah for head down baby!

londonlivvy · 12/10/2012 19:06

loopy so glad that baby is the right way up. What good news!

I am now on maternity leave which is a huge relief. At last. My colleagues wrote a lovely, lovely card and chose some gorgeous pressies - blanket and babygro etc, embroidered with a bike (which given that DF and I are v.keen cyclists, is v.apt) AND one of the girls baked a cake which she'd iced in pink. I was very touched by the thoughtfulness.

On the downside, my boss made an incredibly awkward and not particularly flattering speech and big boss (who runs our department of 17) made some odd remark about "so what's with the bike? does the father, uh, boyfriend, uh, whatever, cycle?" Good LORD. I barely know where to start on that subject.
a) I cycle about 5000 miles a year. I've cycled to work pretty much every day for the five years I've worked for you and you've seen me in the lift in my bike kit.
b) I got engaged in January. I have been wearing a sparkly ring since.
does he notice nothing about his team? RUDE.

However. I shall rise above it. It is no longer my problem. I am at home to rest, sort out final bits of admin before our young lady arrives, and look after my beloved DF who is working like a crazy man, in addition to his masters.

Beccus · 12/10/2012 19:11

hey friends, just had lovely big catch up session. Have finally finshed all pre-baby beauty treatments and feel ready and glammed up to hang out in my mummy and baby sanctuary for as long as i want to without worrying about hair roots, hairy legs and grotty toe nails. Wax was pretty much painfree with no drugs and i felt-off-my-face-big -fat-joint style after the most amazing massage, so am hoping the pain killer hormones and oxytocin production techniques are doing their things :)

Milk, congrats on the arrival of little william!!

zara and londonlivvy, congrats on starting mat leave - it is the best!!

welcome orenishii and ayeasha, never to late to join us!

fjord, hugs to you, you are not failing your baby, you have made sacrifice after sacrifice during your pregnancy with your GD diagnosis and it sounds like labor was tough for you too, to do the best for Ida. I expect breastfeeding is probably going to be a bloody hard slog for most of us, but none of us are failing our babies if it doesn't work for us. The one thing i have picked up in the UK is that there is help out there, and we need to try and get out and get help. Finding help will be the only thing i will be leaving my mummy and baby sanctuary for. I hope there is something u can access in norway and your DH can stay off work a little longer to support you and have a word in MIL's ear, as well.

bella, hey due date buddy - u can keep calling me baccus if u like, isn't he the god of wine....i cannot wait to be worshipping reguarly at his alter again :)

midget, good luck with sweep no. 2.

cwest, congrats on finally getting your family home

loopy, so pleased baby loopy isn't breach!! Hope u r not slightly miffed, like i was, that my baby's arse is hard to differentiate from it's head :) Poor bum-head baby beccus :(

mickey, kyria and yomping, and everyone else struggling with pregnancy and not enough zzz's - will an orgasm help? mickey, especially thinking of u as you're still at work and it's so hard after 36 weeks. I think who ever said that u can now get signed off by your gp with preggo related issues and start your mat leave is right.

On the topic of sex, londonmrs cracked me up with her evident disappointment that her DH isn't getting into the orgy swing of things to natrually induce bubs - i love that you are going to led zepplin, where are they on? Maybe that will get your hubby into a more sex, drugs and rock'n'roll frame of mind and he will be more obliging? :)

squid, good to hear from you! You look amazeballs and jess is sooo cute! I echo the person who appreciated the honesty of your birth story and how u r feeling now - i didnt think your birth story was negative, it was realsitic and i am glad u shared it with us. Even the orgasmic birth dvd shows that labor is full on with the women questioning their ability to cope - i think most of us hoping to do it without drugs expect there will probably come a time where we beg for it to stop/for an epidural/c-section....hopefully at the time we can remember it's normal for us to feel that way and the journey should just about be almost over, unless medical intervention is really what we and our babies need.

God, waffle, waffle, waffle...time to get dinner on.

hufflepuffle · 12/10/2012 19:41

Yay Loopy for head down baby!!!!! Yay!!

And yes Kyyria I hav innocently been hit with labour on tv!! Yesterday it was Friends, today, Only Fools and Horses!!!!! Racquel screaming the place down lying in her back!!!!

Can anyone tell me more about Tens machine??? Crap crap instructions..... In antenatal class they said comes with instructions do I didn't really listen........ Blush

Starts with low pulse then u increase it. But to how much?? Should it be strong enough to 'feel it' or to to be 'uncomfortable' or be 'painful'???? Then apparently when u get contraction u hit the trigger and it gives u a high intensity shock!!! DH near jumped off chair!! Oh I am not sure about this....... Anyone used before?? Perhaps I shud post on post natal thread as ladies may hav used?? But they hav enough to worry about.....!

Any info appreciated peeps! Xx

squidkid · 12/10/2012 19:59

huffle panic not! Unless you are lucky or things go very differently to expected, you will have loads of time in early labour to try it out... I didn't try it till after waters gone!

Mine had two settings for intensity, low and high. So i started on low. On 'pulse' mode it felt like someone tickling your back. then when you get contraction you immediately press 'boost' button and it;s like a buzzing. Use on low setting at first, then when you feel you need more switch to higher setting - still does 'pulse' and 'boost' but they're both stronger. I think i switched mine at about 7cm after midwife was there, the lower setting was fine for me till then. Later on I gave it to boyfriend and nodded to him when contraction coming so i could concentrate on gas and air and my breathing.

feel free to ask more, am pinned to sofa feeding!

squidkid · 12/10/2012 20:05

thanks beccus - good to read even the orgasmic birth ladies had their tough moments! Also i think i am remembering it based mostly on the last 2 hours (8-10cm) which were really hard... as boyfriend keeps telling me, apparently i was super cool and in control (smiling and chatting between contractions) until then. Lots of women get epidurals around 8cm and remember the whole thing as manageable - feel better when i think about it that way.

massage, wax and haircut sound like bliss!

hufflepuffle · 12/10/2012 20:17

See, that sounds sensible Squid! This one however changes in intensity from 0 to 99........ And the boost goes right up to 99 instantly!! So for starters, when u had it on the low continuous pulse, was it just noticeable or did it feel uncomfortable?

squidkid · 12/10/2012 20:23

hmmm... not sure about the 0-99 settings. On low pulse I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable no... like someone lightly scratching your back.

hufflepuffle · 12/10/2012 20:30

Right. So tickling then?? Ok. Will aim for tickling to start with. When the contractions come the jump to full power will be interesting!!! I'm a bit too afraid to try it beforehand but as u say I'll likely have LOADS of time to fine tune it when I need it and won't be panicking about the 99 boost then!!!!

Squillion thank yous Squid and Jess too for giving mummy time to help me! Xx

MickeyTheShortOne · 12/10/2012 20:35

Hi everyone- I am so sorry for my whinging posts yesterday, accepts yoomping's fuck-you-pregnancy badge gracefully although I am glad that they made you laugh rather than making you roll your eyes with exasperation!!
I feel a bit better today, and also quite pleased because I saw the midwife who, A) critisised the doc I saw at the beginning of the week for not investigating more into my dizzy spells, B) I AM 3/5 ENGAGED! Hooray! I know this does not mean alot, but I am pleased that the baby is still the right way down(?) and hasnt turned round since I last saw her. The babys heartbeat is regular and she thinks it weighs about 6 pounds already!!! Shock
I do love my new midwife- she is much nicer than the old one Grin

Kyyria I ate inhaled half a pack of jaffa cakes on my 20min journey to work this morning. I then finished off the rest at 9am Grin I have discovered that that keeps the early-early-morning nausea at bay though so I may just have to do the same tomorrow!!! and LOL! At your scary shoelaces!!! That made me laugh so much!!!

Thanks Yomping for the information RE working/leaving early. It is much appreciated. I think I will try and get through the next two weeks (until I see midwife again) and see how I feel then. Take it one step at a time like. I think I just got myself into a bit of a state yesterday.. But today I came home at 2 and I slept until DP got home at 7.30 Blush I must've been exhausted. But the yantra mat is a godsend- highly highly recommend!

Squid Its so nice to hear from you. I also just wanted to say that I loved reading your birth story- It was realistic and real and exactly what I would've expected- not negative at all.

Loopy Congrats on your head down baby, that must have been such a relief.

Huffle The yantra mats are all about acupressure. I must admit I am finding it harder and harder to lay on it now due to uncomfortableness on my back, but also because my body just seems so sensitive at the moment if that makes sense? But I can at least do it for 5-10mins, so it does do something.
thankyou so much everyone for your support. I honestly don't know what I'd have done in these past few months. The end is in sight! And then it really begins runs and hides in a cupboard.

right- off to have marmite sausages chips beans and an illicit runny egg mmmmmmmm and watch the footie. Boring!

hufflepuffle · 12/10/2012 21:04

So glad u had a lovely MW apt today Mickey and are thus feeling more positive!!! Nice healthy dinner! Nearly as good as my gravy chips and pastie from chip shop!!!!!

Don't think I'll be trying the yantra mat just now then...... Me trying to lie on back currently is like a distressed beetle, not a chance of getting up again!!

bella2012 · 12/10/2012 21:42

congrats milk ! Great name!

So pleased for you Loopy and well done baby loopy!

baccus you made me laugh out loud- you are now the wine God.

cherry, yomping and london thank you for saying nice things to me.

I am fecking exhausted after a day of MW app, food shopping and furious party prep, hence extreme brevity! But baby still in place so far and little boy upstairs is in pirate heaven dreaming of tomorrow. He has been fizzing with excitement all day bless him. dH trying to put cake pic on fb for me but camera playing up.

Here is hoping for a good nights sleep for us all. Special fingers crossed for yomping and kyria xx

hufflepuffle · 13/10/2012 09:08

Wow!! No mid morning/ late night posts!! Hoping that means lots of you slept well!!!! All frosty here this morning, guess we are having winter babies!!

Have a good Saturday all, xx

Smorgs · 13/10/2012 09:33

Morning ladies, been horrendously tired the last few days so no energy to post - mainly due to screaming down the phone at telecommunications workers as I still have no connection and really want to speak to my big sister in oz before baby arrives Sad

Just wanted to send a big hug to Fjord - you've coped with so much through this pregnancy and you've given BFing your best shot so please please don't feel guilty if you have to switch to formula. I think it seems the BFing thing affects different people in different ways and none of us knows in advance if we're going to suffer with cracked nipples, latching probs, prolonged engorgement etc I think a lot of it is sadly down to luck. I hope you're getting some good support though xxx

squid Dont feel bad about posting your story. I'm another one who had to take a deep breath after reading it, but actually hAve found it inspiring and really admire you for being so honest. Plus it gives me hope that I might be able to do this without epidural, even though there are no other pain relief options open to me. Did you think the tens was useful? Ps you look great in your pics, very serene.

londonmrss ha! I think engineers are all 'of a type'!

Milk congratulations! Welcome to the world mini milk!

loopy thrilled for you that the baby is right way up, phew.

yomping glad you're feeling a bit better, the last few days suck. Can't believe you've done this twice in last few weeks too!

Welcome to the newbies and sorry to anyone I've missed. Have good weekends and keep breathing in the golden light.

Smorgs, 32, 39+4.... Shit!

Orenishii · 13/10/2012 11:25

Smorgs I'm right there with you - I'm 39+4 too.

The best thing that has happened this morning is the handy man turned up to fit the new bath/shower my landlady suddenly insisted absolutely needed doing. Now I can get back into willing the baby to come instead of hoping it doesn't!

Golden light well and truly breathed in!

hufflepuffle · 13/10/2012 11:43

Oh good Orenishi! Appropriate timing indeed!! That is a relief.

39+ 6........ Bouncing on ball, eating pineapple (after the bouncing!) and wondering if I am wise as likelihood of coming yet rather low!! Out for Indian food tonight methinks!!

hufflepuffle · 13/10/2012 11:45

Oh my baby went MAD last night for about 2 hrs! Proper sci Fi movie, distorted tummy, look like going to burst moves. Rather freaked out. I think I hav had a v v active baby for months but this was really different!! Anyone think it is trying to get out???? Confused

hufflepuffle · 13/10/2012 11:49

Smorgs huge sympathies on tiredness and nobber French telecoms tossers. Take comfort from fact that I am insanely jealous of your rural French loveliness and the chance to bring up family in such an environment is wonderful!!!! (nice jealous btw!) But still, feckin stupid feckin nobber tossers....... ( love that my phone now has 'nobber' as predictive word!!)

Orenishii · 13/10/2012 12:13

Hahaha huffle what was the film?? I made the mistake of watching Prometheus last week. It's not a patch on what it could have been like but there's a moment where the droid turns to the heroine and says: well doctor, it's not exactly a traditional foetus.

AIIIEEEEE!!

Smorgs Completely concur about the rural French loveliness, even with all the accompanying (stereotyped) shrugging of shoulders and slow progress they might be making Wink

Orenishii · 13/10/2012 12:14

Oh wait huffle just realised - you were saying baby went all sci fi like. Must learn to read properly!

YompingJo · 13/10/2012 12:41

huffle, yes to mad baby syndrome! Think mine has worked out where the exit is and is feeling a bit ShockHmm at the prospect (as am I!), and is exploring other options, eg punching its way out through my stomach Alien-stylee Grin. You could test tens machine out on DH if he is willing? At NCT class we tested them on husbands - was very funny but also quite useful.

Loopy, totally forgot to give you a high-five yesterday, relieved to hear baby is right way round.

Orenishii, result with the bath/shower, glad that is all sorted.

smorgs, they do suck, a lot. Some days worse than others - I feel like I'm in stasis - for the last 9 months things have been changing almost weekly so there is always something new to get excited about/notice/complain about. Now nothing is really changing and it's all just uncomfortable. But it could be so much worse, I don't have much to deal with really unlike lots of you on here - hope you get your internet connection sorted soon.

Slept OK last night, including going back to sleep for 2 hours at 7:30 after being woken up by DH going to work, making myself mug of horlicks (new addiction) and reading in bed for an hour. Didn't even get dressed until 11:30

Bella, hope party goes well and your DS enjoys his day of pirateness - aaarrr!

Mickey, v. jealous of your dinner!

YompingJo · 13/10/2012 12:42

Orenishii, what I loved about that film is the cheering thought that immediately after a C-section, one can run around and do things to save the world Hmm

Orenishii · 13/10/2012 12:47

Yes YompingJo, we really ought to be asking the NHS why don't they have a machine to do C-sections, machines only intended for men when there are women crew on board and why don't they change the name from C-section to "removal of foreign body"??

That rubber suit was a bit intense after the stapling...
