WestWinger · 13/07/2012 19:01

detective have been thinking about how you are all day. Hope everything is ok. x

WestWinger · 13/07/2012 19:02

MissMummy - congrats on your scan!

SwissArmyWife · 13/07/2012 19:05

Ah don't worry about confusing me, when it comes to numbers I am easily confused! As far as i'm concerned, I have roughly 4 months to go until this baby arrives and i'm 23 weeks. Simples. Grin

missmummy Glad your scan went well :)

ValiumQueen · 13/07/2012 19:13

Detective is very quiet. Most unlike her! Hope you are ok honey x

A lovely saying I heard is that when a baby is born, a mummy is born too, and they grow together, both learning as they go.

DesperateHousewife21 · 13/07/2012 19:32

chunky yes to throbbing lady bits. After sex it feels like I've been kicked by a horse! Then I keep feeling like they're going to fall off and actually holding them up feels better, the baby must be pressing down quite hard on them, still got another 4 months of this!

missmummy congrats on the scan :)

NervousAt20 · 13/07/2012 19:42

Congratulations on the scan mummy :)

valium that is a really nice saying, I really like that!

I don't have sore bits but getting harder to see them Blush shaving is not an easy job anymore but im just not brave enough to go for a wax ha oh child birth is going to be so easy Hmm

Anyone going to the next sale tomorrow?

There's so much to talk in, this is eat for baby and then this Confused it's quite worrying! Also had quite a few people who say oh no you won't want to do this you'll want to do this way because that's how all my kids were done, all means well but still a mind boggler

Chunkychicken · 13/07/2012 19:45

Congrats MissMummy on the scan, sounds lovely.

And that's good to know DH Grin

YellowWellies · 13/07/2012 20:08

Great news MissMummy - did you get the sonographer to write it down in an envelope in case you changed your mind or are you full on team yellow? (that should be worth some name choosing brownie points with DH!!!).

Chunky sorry if I sounded arsey about the car seat thing. Am just a bit of a cynic from my line of work!

I hope Detective is ok... am a bit worried we've not heard from her. Am sure she's fine but would love her to check in with us.

Had my first antenatal class today - exercise and relaxation stuff. This being the island it would of course be held by someone I know (a workmate's Mum) demonstrating pelvic floor exercises (sigh last time I went for a smear it was someone I knew doing it... oh for a bit of anonymity).

What was worrying was that at 21 going on 22 weeks I'm much bigger than the 24 weeker ladies!

Also worrying to be given a birthing class date the week before my due date (I'd like to do the theory BEFORE the practical if you get my drift!!!) - mindst it wasn't as bad as some of the ladies who were given classes 2 days before their due dates. Hopefully the midwife is going to rearrange our dates....

YellowWellies · 13/07/2012 20:12

As for the breastfeeding in public thing - that doesn't bother me at all - but watching telly the other week with DH's parents when they were up, and a lady on the telly whapped a boob out and fed her baby and they both hissed 'ooooh that's disgusting on prime time telly'. Daily Mail readers - gotta love em! If we do go south for Christmas I think I'm going to end up doing a lot of feeding upstairs out of their gaze. They are quite old fashioned and think that formula milk is an improvement on nature, and that breast feeding is somehow obscence :(

eversomuch · 13/07/2012 20:12

Whew! What a week. Where did it go?

Congrats on the scan MissMummy. So glad it went so well.

I also felt like I knew nothing about babies when I had DD. But you grow into each other and you learn along the way and everything turns out fine. I stopped reading parenting and baby books after a few months because they were doing my head in with all their contradictory advice. However, one book that I kept referring back to (and still do) is Wonder Weeks, which tracks developmental leaps and the associated fussy periods babies enter as a leap approaches. In our case, and with many other parents I've spoken with, this book is really spot on and took a lot of stress out of sudden fussy periods because we knew what was happening:

www.amazon.co.uk/The-Wonder-Weeks-Development-Predictable/dp/9079208043/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342205926&sr=8-1

We gave DD a bottle of expressed breastmilk early on (around a month or two) so that DH could feed her before bed. Then she went through a hellish period where she would only take bottles, so I was expressing several times a day. Then, around 8 months or so, she went off bottles completely and only wanted the boob. I've ExBF the whole time, but I think we're finally coming to the end: she'll be 16 months next week and for the past two days or so has pretty much not fed at all (or for only a max of 10 seconds at a time). I think I'll continue offering through the weekend, and if she's still not interested, I guess I stop. Sorta sad about it because I really love BFing, but I'm happy that I could let her reach the point on her own where she's ready to stop.

Finally, another vote for Grobags. You can get them super cheap at NCT Nearly New Sales (I've never paid more than £4 for one) and they're just brilliant. DD loved being swaddled when she was tiny and it helped keep her from waking herself up when she flailed her little arms and legs around in her sleep.

FatimaLovesBread · 13/07/2012 21:28

Got a bargain this afternoon! Wet to buy some bras and got this for £25!! We were going to get it anyway at a later date but at less than half price we couldn't resist Grin

izzybizzybuzzybees · 13/07/2012 21:47

Mothercare have 20% off online til midnight tonight! Maxi cosi cabriofix is £99.99 but with twenty percent off ends up at £80! Have to spend £100 to qualify but well worth it!m

Dixiebell · 13/07/2012 21:57

I got a book called 'your babycare bible'. Also had tge pregnancy one. I found it quite helpful for first few weeks because although I do think instinct grows as you get to know your baby, there were things I just wouldn't have been confident with without some guidance like when and how to bathe a newborn. Was never shown by mw or Hv. It's a bit more factual than some of the baby regime type books and I liked having it there for reference.

My coccyx is still agony. Had pain for over a week now, and today was awful. Seriously on a par with labour pain. At one point I was hiding in tge bathroom crying with it while my mum entertained DS. Paracetamol eases it a bit but comes back and I don't want to be chain-taking paracetamol for the next 5 months. I know they say it's ok but surely not good to rely on it?? Can you take too much for baby?

FatimaLovesBread · 13/07/2012 22:28

I got the cabriofix from boots, got a 20% off code then it had triple
Points plus parenting club points meant I got £19 in points. Effectively
Got it for £65, went in Mothercare last Sunday at it was the full £130!!

Chunkychicken · 13/07/2012 22:34

Dixie as long as you don't OD yourself, it should be fine. Is it PGP? Did you bruise your coccyx during your DS's birth? I did with my DD, it was agony! It might be worth seeing your GP/MW.

This baby isn't going to have a name. We'll just call it 'baby' forever. DH & I can't seem to like any of the same names at the mo, none work with our surname or sound weird next to DD's. :(

TheDetective · 13/07/2012 23:16

Sorry ladies! Am Blush that you have been thinking about me! I'm okay, still having some tightenings, but nothing regular, and nothing as bad as last night. Like a muppet, I've been in work Blush, totally ignoring what my own advice would have been. I'm worried about taking time off, because I really need extra shifts come October, to save up more for my mat. leave, and if I'm off they can be funny over it.

I didn't get up til 20 minutes before I had to leave for work though, so did get a really good sleep, and taking regular paracetomol through the rest of the day has helped. I do think it could be a UTI to be honest. Naughty minx in there... giving me a stress head already!

blonderthanred · 13/07/2012 23:18

Glad to hear things are better Detective.

GTbaby · 13/07/2012 23:52

Hey detective glad u are well x was starting to worry.

pass I had same question about carry cot from my Maclaren. Going to use small crib in room. Then this carry cot downstairs.
I'm guessing carry cot for sleeping. In for a few hours is ok. Googled it but couldnt find anything.

Starting to feel achey around stomach. Really stretched tummy feeling. Not nice at all.

I keep getting OMG I'm preg moments. Blush how will I cope. I know nothing. What if. A million things all related to my OMG moment. The Panic feeling is becoming familiar!

Hope u all have a lovely weekend planned x

TheDetective · 14/07/2012 00:01

I am now officially 24 weeks! EEEEEEk!!!

Up at 4.30 am for the bleedin' Next sale!!

G'night!

TheDetective · 14/07/2012 06:16

Next sale is friggin' manic!!! Got some good bargains though... Going back to bed now! Anyone else brave it at 5am?!

SwissArmyWife · 14/07/2012 06:16

5:30 start to the day yet again, have left DP in bed though as he decided to get me a new phone yesterday that i've wanted for ages which he didn't have to do, so think he deserves it! :)
So it's just me, DD, and the teletubbies this morn!

Detective Glad you're ok, but I think if you need a little time off then have a little time off, you sound like you need to rest yourself!

GT This is my second pregnancy and even i'm having those panic moments. "Oh my god how am I going to cope with TWO of them?! Oh my god i'm going to have to give birth again etc etc"
I think it's a natural reaction!

NervousAt20 · 14/07/2012 06:18

Braved it too :) just sitting in McDonald's recovering then back to bed

SwissArmyWife · 14/07/2012 06:26

You're both crazy imo Wink

ValiumQueen · 14/07/2012 06:34

Great news detective although you are a twit for going to work, and sale today! Hope you get some nice things, and get back to bed if you can. You need to rest. I remain concerned at you doing extra shifts in October, but at least if you bring on early labour you will already be there.

Carrycots on prams are designed for naps, but not overnight, unless specified, like silver cross sleepover.

I can thoroughly recommend ViraSoothe for chickenpox. DD slept for 12hours last night, and this morning was scratching like hell until I put this on, now she is easily distractable. It is over £8, but worth every penny. You would spend more than that buying the other stuff like calamine lotions and creams, piriton, oats etc.

My foot still hurts like buggery so no Next Sale for me. Have sent Mum instead. Thankfully it is pretty hard to buy anything horrid in Next. I love Next, all my second-hand stuff is next (bit of a charity shop snob)

I prefer the genuine gro-bags, as the other ones sometimes do not have a tog rating.

I will read up about swaddling. It always amazes me how heavily swaddled newborns are, especially as the wards are so hot you can barely breathe, but I guess the blankets are cellular, and new babies cannot regulate their own body hear.

ValiumQueen · 14/07/2012 06:37

You cannot post about the sale and not share what you bought! Not! On! Get back here the noo!
