I'm liking the 'easy' birth stories - I'd like to order one of those Smile

Good news today - saw the consultant for 36 wk check & I've been signed off to midwife led care & no reason why I shouldn't get a homebirth, yay!

No names here either - DH still has very few he likes but doesnt like my choices, hopefully when he sees me go through labour he'll be a bit more swayed to my way of thinking...

TinkerMaloo · 23/08/2012 14:10

My names have been in the bag since month 3! It was so hard to agree with DP though... I couldnt not have names this far in!

Thanks for sharing all these "easy" birth stories. Put my mind at ease for abit! Can I have one of those myself please?

Tomorrow will be my last day at work, dont have much to do these few days apart from the odd handover meeting, so it's actually quite boring...(I'm not complaining tho as I'm getting paid!)

Will be 38 weeks tomorrow, hope I won't have to wait till >40 weeks. Would quite like to meet my little boy now!

Rachel130690 · 23/08/2012 15:39

Okay so just had to comment and let everyone no that I became an auntie :) my little sister gave birth this morning to a gorgeous baby girl, calling her Ellie-Alison and was 7lb 5 oz. and she was amazing.. Am so proud of her.

My only concern after going to see her labour is that she was very doped up after, and now I'm a little worried about that. She had g&a and an injection so now I'm not sure about getting the injection as she was very doped after.

Shall be back later to re-read all posts and catch up properly. :)

Rusulka · 23/08/2012 16:18

FX for all well MrsHelsBels

And congrats Rachel on becoming an auntie!

I would like to add to the easy birth stories! (Unfortunately not mine, lol)

According to my dad, my mum hardly made any noise, just a few grunts, and I was out in 3 pushes- head, body, placenta. Done.
She said the contractions didn't 'hurt' per se, they were just kind of tight and uncomfortable, and obviously the crowning bit kind of stung and stretched.
And she had to be induced as I was 10 days late.

Hoping for one of those for me! (without the late bit)

I think it very much is a case of how you approach it determining your experience- if you're terrified of the pain, then you'll be tense and it'll hurt more- all the way since the beginning I've been thinking I'll just go with the flow and breathe my way through. If I can stay relaxed, then things should just progress. Also drinking the raspberry leaf tea, and I plan to spend as much of labour upright as I can.

I'm really looking forward to being able to sleep on my front again! Oh, and shave my legs in the bath withuot having to dislocate my hips first, lol...

funchum8am · 23/08/2012 16:18

Congratulations Rachel - it will be lovely to have your sister going through the same stages of motherhood with you. Glad it all went well for your sister!

I had a scan today to check my low lying placenta had moved out of the way of my cervix and indeed it had so no need for ELCS - I can now move to watch and wait mode for one of those lovely quick two paracetamol births people have so helpfully shared on here!

Also went into school for GCSE results and made an idiot of myself by misremembering something a senior staff member had said to me, getting annoyed with her about the issue, and have had to send her an email apologising since I got home and checked my facts. I think I am turning into a mad pregnant lady. Hope she can forgive me!

twizzlestix · 23/08/2012 16:35

Aww! Congrats on becoming an auntie!

We haven't got a definite name yet (9days til DDay!) we have 4 but non grab us, hopefully won't be an issue when makes an appearance! Sure your colleague will think it's amusing funchum, wouldn't worry about it.

cjbk1 · 23/08/2012 17:29

Just another point of view all; I did have a positive attitude and do the breathing and positions correctly and try to stay off the drugs with 2nd VB and I certainly didn't 'tense up and make it hurt more' but it didn't work and it was longer and with more intervention than 1st VB and she was smaller it wasnt my fault

MrsHelsBels74 · 23/08/2012 18:09

Just to recap, I don't have pre-eclampsia & the baby can cook a little bit longer...and I can breath a sigh of relief!

mrsmaccas · 23/08/2012 18:16

Hello all -

been ages since I posted. No new arrival as yet - kinda hoping it can hold on in there until at least next Sat. We are moving house at the weekend (not quite as bad as it sounds as we moved lots of the big stuff last weekend) so it'd be nice to get things set up and settled before baby makes an appearance. We would also ideally like a Sept birth (school terms and all that). But, saying that I don't want to go to 40+12 and be induced, because I don't want to be induced and one set of the grandparents will miss the birth as they are cruising the Caribbean for DH mother's 60th b-day. But then I'd also prefer not to be in labour on my first wedding anniversary on 9th Sept. So basically it'd be great if the baby comes on D-Day , on the 4th!

Otherwise I haven't enjoyed the heat, have had a few pains from SPD (especially getting out of bed in the morning, ouch!) and generally feel huge and feel like people are gorping at me. I've had a few looks from the older generation as if to say, "shouldn't you stay inside? we don't want to see you waddling about."

Every twinge gets me thinking "is this it?" Got myself into a bit of a panic the other night and had to try and talk myself down and say "when it happens it'll happen and I'll just have to get on with it" I try explaining this panic to my DH and he says "you'll be fine" and seems unable to quite comprehend the enormity of what having a new baby means (I've heard enough from friends) and is looking forward to his 2 weeks paternity leave! Think he might be equating it with a holiday...Hmm

ballroomblitz · 23/08/2012 22:05

That's good news HelsBels . I'm sure you'll sleep well tonight after a long day at the maternity ward.

Congrats on being an auntie Rachel. That's lovely you and your sis are going to have little ones growing up so close in age and you can both share the experience together. I give up hope on ever becoming an aunty to anything other than a cat or dog. Both my bro and sis have no inclination on ever having kids, despite both being in long term relationships. I keep my mum and dad going I was their only chance to have grandchildren Grin

On the easy birth story dp's sis, her first, was three hours, only g&a and not a single stitch needed. She did a lot of hypnobirthing and laboured on her own. She actually lent me a hypnobirthing book but it's still sitting unfinished beside the bed as I'm finishing Dracula first.

I'm hoping for one not like my mum's Rusulka .She had problems with all three of us. Not the labours actually but pretty hectic problems after each of us for one reason or another.

I will not miss the little wiggler inside me at all and can't wait to get my body back to myself Blush I do not enjoy the experience of being pregnant in the slightest.

WhereAreMyShoes · 23/08/2012 22:39

Glad to gear you're alright HelsBels.
I'm probably going to miss the bump, I did last time. But I will try really hard to remember the awfulness of my SPD as I don't think I want to put myself through it again. Especially as this time is so much worse than before. The cracking in the centre of my pelvis when getting out if bed (whilst dying for a wee) makes me feel feint with pain and cringe at the same time.

Insomnia/daytime tiredness was painful today. Hope I sleep tonight.

Congrats Rachel, when I first saw your post I thought you were going to tell us you'd had your baby!
So exciting!

Turquoisecat · 24/08/2012 08:53

Yay HelsBels glad you're okay, and congratulations to rachel on the shiny new niece!

It's my last day of work today - does anyone else feel like starting ML is like a holiday, and you'll be back in two weeks? I can't quite get my head round the fact I won't be back for a year apart from showing the baby off, which I have to do under pain of death!

But I am glad it's my last day - no more getting up with the alarm! I know I'll be up all the time when the LO arrives, but my brain is currently blocking any thoughts about labour or tiredness or anything to do with the reality of having my first!

NightmareWalking · 24/08/2012 10:50

Congrats on being an Auntie Rachel, it will be nice for them to be so close in age. My DC will have 16 cousins but the nearest in age is 18 months and quite a way away geographically so we won't have the closeness unforch.

Does anyone have any idea what you can take for a horrendous cold apart from hot honey & lemon? I'm really suffering this week and am worrying that if I don't get the better of it it will make my asthma flare up Sad

funchum8am · 24/08/2012 11:25

I'm glad you're well helsbels, pre-eclampsia sounds really horrible. sorry nightmare nothing massive to recommend re colds - I know you can take glycerin for a cough and it might also help with a sore throat but otherwise I've just suffered through colds, or taken paracetamol if I got a headache with it.

I'm suffering now with lower back pain and some pelvic pain especially when getting out of bed or off the sofa. It's not proper SPD but I can see how awful SPD must be from the version I am experiencing so my sympathies to those of you who have it.

Just trying to get through the weekend when we have no plans, which I find harder than having things to do to take my mind off the aches and pains. Then I'm busy with social stuff for a week, then we go back to school and I'm doing four days, and then ML starts!

ballroomblitz · 24/08/2012 11:41

Omg wherearemyshoes even the thought of a cracking pelvis makes me feel sick. Poor you. From my perspective I hear about people talking about SPD and related pelvic problems but don't really comprehend how horrendous it must be. It really makes me think I've nothing to complain about at all.

The only thing I can think of is paracetemol I'm afraid NightmareWalking and menthol crystals if your nose is stuffed up. Not much help at all. Ds suffers from asthma and I know it's the one thing I worry about every cold he gets.

Smallgreenone · 24/08/2012 17:32

Just had another hospital appt, baby didn't meet the criteria and the consultant wasn't happy so I'm going back tomorrow for another ctg and another scan and if he still isn't happy I'll be induced tomorrow- aaaaaargh!

MissCoffeeNWine · 24/08/2012 18:13

The pelvic cracking is all too familiar. The air turns blue when I have to turn over in bed. Which is lots because my lower leg goes numb if I lay on one side for more than 20 minutes. My walk is now a shuffle! It's really weird to have literally NO extra speed available - like doing a little jog or speeding up your walk to cross a road - can't do that. Not even the tiniest bit. I'm grateful to still be able to walk though, a few months ago it wasn't seeming likely.

I never take anything for a cold so I'm not the expert there, I didn't think there was anything to take for colds apart from Lemsip which makes me yack. Bad timing though you have my sympathy.

Glad you're OK Helsbels.

Smallgreenone - oh my. How you holding up? What's the concern? Do you feel okay about the possibility of induction? Sounds a scary time.

My first birth was two hours, no pain relief, no stitches. If that helps. It looks good on paper I suppose but the experience can be very different - being asleep one minute and having transition contractions 90 seconds long 30 seconds apart the next, without build up or pain relief or even anyone with you isn't always the nicest thing. And no stitches doesn't mean no injury - I had grazes that went upwards not downwards, no stitches but OMFG the pain after!

It's funny I don't feel big or like the baby is taking up lots of space, I don't feel like it's pushing down and haven't had any changes in weeing frequency and that sort of thing in the pregnancy at all. I can walk normally, if slowly, and don't have the waddle going on. People say I'm small although you can definitely tell there's a baby in there, I keep getting all kinds of doom and gloom warning about not knowing what I've let myself in for and how awful it will be with a newborn. Stuff them I'm really looking forward to it - they don't realise I've BTDT and although I know every experience is different I also know that being pregnant is the hardest hardest thing I ever do and I'd take ten newborns over it any day Grin

It's going to be great. Don't listen to the naysayers.

Rachel130690 · 24/08/2012 18:31

Thanks to everyone on the congrats. She's just so cute can't believe I'll have a little baby soon. Provided he comes soon :)

She had a very good labour, contractions started 11.30 am and where infrequent. Went into hospital that night and was 6cms at 3.30 am, her little girl was born at 11.26 am. Her Mw seemed lovely when we where there however when we left and her partner went home to shower the Mw changed and was very rude to her, slagging off her baby's name and asking her if she was even committed to her baby and breast feeding. She's 19 years old, was up from Tuesday am with little sleep and was trying to settle/breastfeed her newborn. I was appalled by this and in shock that it was the same Mw that helped her through labour.

helsbels I'm glad your okay.

smallgreenone what criteria did your baby not meet? How you coping with the possibility of an induction tomorrow?

Yes to the pelvic pain all the time, it's getting unbearable (and mine is probably only minor pain compared to others).

Getting my crib tomorrow anyone recommend a good shop or online shop to buy a mattress from that delivers pretty quick?

Smallgreenone · 24/08/2012 19:32

Sorry criteria on the ctg monitor- they look for variability in the heartbeat and there wasn't enough. Because I've also been leaking amniotic fluid they are being quite cautious. I'm going back tomorrow for a repeat ctg and ultrasound to check fluid level. Am a bit scared of induction but it'll be for the best as baby will be safer out than in! It was scheduled for 5th sept anyway so only 10 days or do early. Just a bit inconvenient that my husband is on a stag do this weekend and I'm at my parents and have left my hospital bag and baby bits 60 miles away at home! Luckily I'm at the hospital I was always going to deliver at as was going to come down here to deliver anyway. I'll let you know how I get on tomorrow. Hope everyone else has a drama free Friday!

twizzlestix · 24/08/2012 20:56

Gosh smallgreen is someone going with you?
Good luck you may be holding your little one this time tomorrow.

Great news hels

rachel am glad your sister's birth went well but am Shock at the after care she recieved! Can she/is she up to make a complaint to the supervisor of MW?

Glad you're feeling well misscoffee I too am not feeling too much discomfort nor am I waddling :) but do have a lovely large beach ball of a bump so it's not down to lack of bumpage!

WhereAreMyShoes · 24/08/2012 21:47

Good luck tomorrow smallgreenone
I was induced with DS and would be happy to do it again. I had the propess thing and my labour was short, intense and trouble free. It meant I still had plenty of energy left to do efficient pushes.

Today I have developed a major waddle. My midwife notes from Wed shows baby is 2/5 engaged, so assume she's right down there now!

Rachel I ordered our mattress from Mothercare and am still waiting for it 3 weeks later. The courier have lost it apparently.
We used PreciousLittleOne for our buggy and have been waiting for it since May. But then that was because the colour we wanted didn't arrive in the June or July shipments so not actually their fault either. It arrived at the factory today and we should have it Tuesday so they seem to honour their next working day delivery. As long as it's in stock!
So basically, I'm really unlucky when it comes to deliveries recently so don't take any advice from me!

leelteloo · 24/08/2012 22:05

Good luck Smallgreenone; be thinking of you tomorrow.
Try kiddiecare for good fast service. Everything I've ever ordered from there has

come next day.
With regards to the waddling: got major limp/waddle going on because I keep having incredibly intense leg cramps at night that leave my calf muscles so bruised that I can hardly walk. Never had them with dd and dread going to sleep at night these days for fear of them striking Sad. Other than that though feeling pretty good and this time in 2 weeks I'll be holding our son... Ah

NightmareWalking · 25/08/2012 10:13

Good luck today smallgreenone! And thanks for glycerine/menthol crystal tips ladies, I'll give those a go.

ballroomblitz · 25/08/2012 10:20

Good luck for today smallgreenone x
