Sweltering here too! and have been working in it! :S Have just sat down for the 1st time since 6:30 this morning and I finally, officially, understand the term 'cankles' contemplating a bowl of ice cubes !!!

Micha54178 · 19/08/2012 18:07

Argh! New all time low, while shopping today I was overtaken by a little old lady with her shopping trolley! If I had the energy or the spare fluids I'd cry!!

twizzlestix · 19/08/2012 19:37

Another sweltering preggo person here! Got barely any sleep last night due to the heat, don't think tonight will be much better Sad. Spent most

twizzlestix · 19/08/2012 19:38

?? the day in varying states of undress as to uncomfortable even in a summer dress.

twizzlestix · 19/08/2012 19:39

too oops Blush

ballroomblitz · 19/08/2012 20:20

NI here and not so warm. Went for an hour and a half walk with the dog and had a vest top with a knitted cardi over it then came home and put the heating on. Not sure if it's been the mutt pulling but having the odd sharp pain through my pelvis since I've got home. Maybe things loosening up? Glad I'm not out anywhere though as it causes me to grab my crotch suddenly a la Michael Jackson stylee.

Another one who can't comprehend it's a baby inside me. I remember thinking that the first time too. Amazing. She must be filling up the space in their rightly though as I now feel like my stomach's in my throat half the time. Being woken up reflux rising up a couple of times a night. Not pleasant.

funchum8am · 19/08/2012 20:21

We got back from holiday in France today so am sitting about in top and pants and wishing we were still by the pool! Struggled to sleep all week in the heat and it looks like being the same.here at home!
So excited to hear about the births and scheduling of future births on here! I haven't had any BH at all and feel a bit left out but I guess I should be grateful really. I have a dread of being induced but am convinced baby will come really late :( must go buy some raspberry leaf tea!

Macaroons · 19/08/2012 20:54

Yes weather is too hot for my liking, hardly slept last night! Bought a watermelon today, cooled me down abit after having a few slices :)

I'm 37 weeks now. Wonder if there will be more arrivals in these 2 weeks running up to September?

Loup23 · 19/08/2012 21:14

Hi all just catching up as haven't posted for ages, watching one born every minute for my sins!

Great to hear news of arrivals am sure there will be more before sept. I've got 13 days to go and just feels so surreal, would love it of baby came bang on due date as have lots planned until then!

Anyone know where to get raspberry leaf from? Couldnt see any in supermarket..... A friend also recommended arnica to try and help post birth healing, worth a go Wink

Hope everyone is surviving the heat, I can't get enough ice lollies and loving the excuse!

WhereAreMyShoes · 19/08/2012 21:42

I'm so hot my eyes are sweating!
Just had a shockingly cold shower and now lying in front of the fan, slowly warming up again.
I've been having contraction type pains in bed the last few nights, it's all very exciting!
It does seem to all happen at night, weird. But kind of good as then DS is in bed then so don't have to deal with him too.

Just wondering why I've not thought of ice lollies yet?!

TinkerMaloo · 20/08/2012 08:25

Thank god its a bit cooler today! :)

LouP you can get raspberyy leaf in holland and barrett or any herbalist type shop. I get sick of drinking the tea so use a mixture of tea and capsules. Think I best start ramping it up though as 37 weeks now :)

This is my third pregnancy and the first one where I have had any Braxton Hicks at all, its weird but I love having them, its good to know things are limbering up in there!

Half of me thinks the sooner he pops out the better, but the other half wants him to hang on til 1st of September so that he is in the next school year... They come when they want though!

Loopyhasanotherbean · 20/08/2012 09:10

tinker same here, we wanted a Sept baby so that would be at an advantage for school years, but have been hating the hot weather, and barely slept at all and would love for it to be over. Combination of heat, and being uncomfortable - if i lie on left as per recommendations, my lower left leg hurts, if i lie on right, my right ribs hurt, and to top it all off, 2 of the last 3 nights i have had really bad back ache which has kept me awake. Lost some of my mucus plug over the weekend, so looks like consultant may be right that this one wants to come earlier. 16 nights and counting until ELCS but have a feeling we won't make it to that date, just hoping we can make it till the 1st Sept!!

MakeTeaNotWar · 20/08/2012 09:13

How exciting loopy ! I'll be nearly 38 weeks when I finish work - that is bonkers isn't it, scaring myself now that I'll go into labour on the commute or something!

I got raspberry leaf tea from Waitrose - 35 weeks now, when do I start drinking it? I drink gallons of it last time and had a 4 hour labour so perhaps it really does tone the uterus as it claims?!

Macaroons · 20/08/2012 09:28

maketeanotwar I'll be working till I'm 38 weeks as well, which is this Friday! Can't wait to finish. Part of me wonder if I'm pushing too hard working till the last moment, but the other part of me want to leave the holiday / maternity leave for after the little one is born.

How much raspberry leaf tea do you need to drink a day for it to help with labour? I started drinking some last week.

My baby is still back to back so slightly worried for a long labour. Midwife said baby could still turn during labour...but who knows. I spend around 5-10 min on all fours each night before going to bed, maybe I need to spend more time doing that ...

Macaroons · 20/08/2012 09:31

tinker and loopy I kept wondering whether the little one want to be an August baby or a September one. A friend of mine has a daughter who is a September one, she is smart and my friend feels she's ready for school already, and the little girl feels abit left out when all her nursery friends go to school and she has to wait for another year. Anyway this is not for us to decide! The little one will decide Wink

TinkerMaloo · 20/08/2012 10:04

Mines not due til 10th September, or according to them the 7th, so I'm probably a pretty safe bet for a September baby.

My little girl is a September baby too, it would be really strange if this one does come early and, even though is almost 2 years younger than his sister, ends up in the next school year to her.

You are right though Macaroons babies are like wizards, they arrive exactly when they mean to :)

I started on the Rasp leaf tea at 32 weeks with just one a day, but from 34 wks took it up to 2, and now at 37 I am aiming for 3 on average. Will go to 4 next week... I'm certain it helped with a much shorter second stage in my second labour, it was only 36 mins compared to hours in my first. Admittedly its not the most scientific experiment though as my first was an induction lying on my back all bloody day. Apparently it helps with milk production too, and with DC1 my milk took 3.5 days, whereas with DC2 it was there in abundance at less than 2 days :)

Littlecherublegs · 20/08/2012 11:00

Morning all! Not been on here for a while though have been lurking and trying to keep up to date with all the news!!

Im due 11th September (though going off my original dates it might be more likely to be around 16th) and with it being my first the chances of baby coming early are slimmer so I think Im also a pretty safe bet for a September baby too(which everyone keeps telling me is a good thing, ie. when it comes to academic years etc - not that we planned it like that!!)

So, about 25 days and counting, whoop!! Smile

I think the nesting urge has kicked in as I was scrubbing the kitchen (including cupboard doors and the bin?!) a couple of days ago and dusting (which I never do, ha!!). Think DH was slightly worried that meant the birth was imminent!!

I think we're pretty organised too - we've bought most of the things we need and have the hospital bag packed and the car seat on standby! We've also learnt how the pram works!! Smile

The only slightly negative thing is that I've developed a red itchy rash all over my bump, chest and neck - I've had it about 4 days now and thought it was to do with a change in washing powder (which it still could be I guess). Though I have looked it up on the tinterweb and it sounds like it could be PUPP - which is really common in pregnancy and thankfully harmless and temporary. Anyone else had / suffering from this? Any advice on how to stop the itching would be appreciated, thank you!!

meXem · 20/08/2012 11:41

On the subject of itching Blush... (sorry littlecherublegs I can't help) ... I have acquired over 40 mosquito bites in the past 2 nights Sad and I am in agony!!! Anybody know any good remedies to a) stop the buggers biting and b) stop the insanely painful itching!!

many thanks in advance xx

TinkerMaloo · 20/08/2012 12:59

meXem if you know a rep then try avons skin so soft dry oil body spray in the green colour. Its not designed to keep them away but they stay away regardless! (ex avon rep here and its a bestseller for this reason alone!)

Thanks for the tea recommendations ladies, I'm another one wanting sept baby but with due date of 1st it's very touch and go! Don't want to start tea too early but sounds like it really helps with labour Confused what to do?

Had a lovely day pottering round shops today and got some lovely bits in the sales, baby gap is great at the moment and jojo maman had some sweet stuff - also bought myself some new 'thinspiration' post birth trackies!!

Waiting to hear stories of more arrivals, I had a funny aching very low down this morning so wonder if baby is dropping down...? Anyone else? No BH here at all, scary just not knowing when little one will arrive Grin

twizzlestix · 20/08/2012 19:55

Same here loup have had first raspberry leaf tea today...yuck! But the sound of a 35-40 min 2nd stage will keep me drinking it! Im just going to have 1 cup a day increasing to 2 cups next week maybe (starting sat/sun)? Don't think it triggers labour but makes any contractions more effect iyswim. Hmm might be wrong though...

MissCoffeeNWine · 20/08/2012 20:35

The tea is apparently a uterine toner, so it makes your uterus work more efficiently when it is time to work, not stimulate it into working in the first place. So it's not an induction agent if that worries you Loups. They say it has cumulative effect so you should drink it from 32 weeks or something like that.

I will not be drinking any tea, my second stage was 6 minutes with DC1, wouldn't want to get any more efficient than that really.

ballroomblitz · 20/08/2012 21:31

I can't take raspberry leaf because of previous c-section. I think you can get capsules though for those who aren't liking the tea.

My ds is an October baby and I am really glad he will be one of the older ones in his class - in one and a half weeks my baby's starting primary , especially as he attends SLT and physio and a year has made a huge difference. With a DD of the 20th Sept for this one I'm hoping I'll be ok with this one too.

funchum8am · 20/08/2012 22:38

Bought some raspberry leaf tea today and it sounds like I should crack on and start drinking it as I'm 35+4. I had a MW appt and asked her a few questions like what the hospital policy is on induction (they induce at 40+12 apparently) and what to do if I get that far, as I really don't want to be induced if at all possible. She said they do offer daily monitoring but I got the impression you'd have to be pretty forthright about it to avoid getting talked into the induction....not sure why but I just don't feel like baby is going to be anything but incredibly late, plus am not happy with things I have heard about induction. Fingers crossed I'm wrong and LO arrives within a week or two of due date!

Scan this Thursday to check if low lying placenta has moved so the whole induction thing may be a complete fuss about nothing anyway - if it hasn't moved I'll most likely have a C section at 39 weeks.

Very keen for a September baby but if it hangs in for more than 11 days it will be October! I hope we don't have an Indian summer this year as I'm so hot I had to go and buy a fan...can't cope with 6 more weeks of this!

Bakeroo · 20/08/2012 22:45

Hi all, I started drinking raspberry leaf tea at 37 weeks but only did 3 days as I didn't like it at all. I have started again today though(38 plus 2) as I can't bear wasting it and the thought of making labour shorter/ better is hard to pass up. I also had my first reflexology session today and it was really good. I've had quite bad hand and feet swelling and it's made such a difference to my feet! They look half normal again :) also, she asked me if I was ready to try to bring the baby on....I said I was so she pressed on the cervix points. She said it might be a little early to have effect but worth a try. It's given me loads of Braxton Hicks all day and I had some cervix pressure/pain for about an hour afterwards so we shall see. I've booked another session for next Monday. DH doesn't want me to drink and more tea or go to another session as he's scared we'll have the baby before 1st Sept but it's all been very light hearted! I would love to have the baby on the 1st Sept....for schooling reasons but before for my reasons! We shall see...
Being off work is so nice!
