LadyMaybe - I've been falling asleep listening to my hypno track, because it is on my ipod I am then woken by a rather loud song... I usually need the loo though so it is helpful in a way.

Potty training - Ds is also doing fairly well now. Poo accidents are also our issue. Not because of distraction but because he doesn't yet seem to get much warning. He suddenly starts going oh oh oh and before you know it... poo... no time to reach loo. Quite relieved that he usually still seems to do them early morning when he still has nappy on.

SirCharles - Great news on your flat and good luck with your doula/hypnobirthing. Although I've only every listened to tracks I do feel they helped me during labour retreat into 'birthing bubble' where I could cope with the pain.

myweeangel - I know what you mean about work being draining mentally! Mine is ramping up as I try to get stuff finished and ready for replacement, only two weeks to go now though! LadyMaybe - I work as a Comms Officer from home. It is weird to have a friend taking over but I much prefer it to a random. As I am self-employed and was employed on rolling temp contract I always worry about losing the job completely, at least I won't have to worry about my replacement trying to outdo me this way! Also as she is a friend the handover will be easier, I'm preparing her as best I can but I know I'll miss things and she can phone anytime, especially in the first month, to clarify things with me.

Happy Easter to everyone! Think we will have MIL for lunch tomorrow, then on Monday I want to get some little presents for dd's birthday. She wants a remote control car but I know she will lose interest in that so quickly I'm just going to get a wee one and then get some other nice bits.

I'm beginning to lose track but think I am pretty much 34 weeks now, madness!

Right must get going, really want to organise filing today, been meaning to do it for months. Oh the excitement!

mythical · 07/04/2012 14:29

The only way i am managing to fall asleep at the moment is by using the Naturespace app with Rain in the water playing!! I am uncomfortable and huge at the moment! have posted a bump pic on my profile.. apparently at the end of this week i will be considered full term and the little lady can make an appearance whenever she pleases!
(at the end of this week would be nice, please!!)

cupcakefairy · 07/04/2012 19:13

Confused all of you being surprised at 4/5ths engaged has got me worrying about this one coming early!! Ds was 17 days late though so I'm just gonna have to be on alert the whole of May...bah, horrible. Bought some more essentials for the hospital bag yesterday (maternity pads, mini toiletries) so must must get it packed soon. I am definitely feeling massive pressure in my pelvis now, esp when I walk for more than a few minutes...also needing the loo a LOT more!

I have just purchased a Graco soft carrycot...read that they fit in the City Mini double and are cheaper than Baby Jogger's own ones...I am soooo chuffed with it; it fits really snuggly into the buggy and because it goes in backwards means I'll be able to see the little one when pushing, yippee. Ds sat in the double buggy and pointed at the carrycot saying 'bayyybeeeeee' :)

Sarah woohoo, the blanket is finally on the needles!! Feel much better for that Grin
I always fell asleep listening to the natal hypotherapy cd too! Must start listening soon actually!

Good luck all of you with the potty training, don't envy you! We'll be waiting a good few more months for ds! (22mo)

Happy easter all!

cupcakefairy · 07/04/2012 19:14

Ooh and mythical lovely bump pic! I must get one on my profile...

mythical · 07/04/2012 19:42

cupcake!!! 4/5 engaged is not a lot!!! it goes the opposite way :P if you have a look in your notes (green ones, mines page 12) it means midwife can still feel 4/5 fingers of babes head above pelvis so you need to be worried if it's 0/5 or 1/5 x

LittleSarah · 07/04/2012 19:45

cupcake - Glad to hear your blanket has begun! I'm very frustrated with my baby vest at the mo, doing the neck band (hate picking up!) and you have to do it on circular needles and it doesn't make sense to me... anyway it's getting there but not sure I'm doing it how I should be.

Re the 4/5 engaged, I've read that the most engaged is 0/5. 4/5 means that just one fifth of the head has entered the pelvis, so I don't think you need to worry about delivery just yet! If the midwife can feel whole head when palpating the tummy then she can feel 5/5 so head has not descended at all.

Hope that helps!

mythical · 07/04/2012 19:46

i worded that wrong - there's no need to be worried if fully engaged of course just trying to emphasize you needn't worry, sorry Blush

LittleSarah · 07/04/2012 19:47

Oops cross posted with mythical about engaged-ness of head!

Just checked out your photos mythical, very lovely indeed. I should try something like that, with no 3 you kind of let these things slide... Blush.

cupcakefairy · 07/04/2012 21:35

Really?? But when she palpated my tummy she said 'ooh wow that head is really quite far in you know' Hmm so that's weird! Oh well, back to thinking I'll go 2 weeks over then! (You'd never guess I'm a second timer would you!! Blush)

HeidiHole · 07/04/2012 22:17

cupcake there are two ways of measuring, some midwifes do it "back to front" like 5/5 is all the way out, and some do it that 5/5 is all the way in.

There are two different names for it... something like if they express it as x amount ENGAGED it means thats how far down it is, but if they say x amount PALPABLE it means the other way.

So if she said ooooh the head is far down I suspect she does it the way that 5/5 is fully (ie she is describing how much is engaged not how much she can feel (is palpable). You can always double check with her next time

HeidiHole · 07/04/2012 22:18

So 4/5 engaged means only 1/5 palpable.

She can only feel 1/5 of it because so much is in (engaged)

cupcakefairy · 07/04/2012 22:22

Hmm, the notes just say 'ceph 4/5' so I'll have to ask her next time! Thanks :)

SirCharles · 07/04/2012 23:17

Cooking on gas here..... Went to a car boot sale today with my parents, under duress. However turned into a good outing because we acquired a Quinny Buzz pushchair with carry cot, shopping basket & change bag plus maxi cosie seat& base & cosy toes for £320. Looks almost new, incl tags, & far less than the £850 we were about to spend with Kiddicare online for the Uppababy & maxi cosie. DH v pleased.

Anyone else picked up car boot sale bargains?

The seller was one of those mums who loves buggies. She told us she had 2 kids & had bought 16 buggies over the years. 16????!! Wow. I have read about these women on MN but never met one - I thought they were a mythical creature but she seemed normal.....

OP posts:
Wrigglebum · 08/04/2012 16:33

SirCharles, well done on your bargains! I don't get these pushchair addicts either- are they made of money?! We got a travel system to start with, then a maclaren for the car and now I've got a second-hand bugaboo so I can have a proper pram for home and one in the car. Overall I think we've spent less than a new bugaboo Smile.

Cupcake, ask your midwife as there are two different ways of measuring- confusing eh?!

Potty training is going rather well! No wee accidents for a few days and we've even had a few trips out and a nap! He used his potette out yesterday, was reluctant at first but the liners have frogs on so I told him he needed to get the froggies wet and that did the trick Grin. Refused point blank to use the toilet so glad we have a potette! Poos are more difficult, seems he didn't really know but I talked to him about it making a funny feeling in his tummy and incentivised (smiley face on chart, two marshmallows and a new car when we get five smileys) and we had a poo on the potty twice today! So glad I left it until he decided to do it, really hasn't been at all stressful but I am aware he might regress once the baby comes. We're not trying night training yet but might move him into pull ups at night and encourage him to go if he needs to. Good luck to the rest of you going through it!

tostaky · 09/04/2012 13:55

Hi again everybody!
Been away for two weeks and I was wondering wether there would be some early babies... But we are all fast approaching May and the second one to pop is likely to come in the next few weeks!!!! How exciting!

Re - potty training. I made a weak attempt with Ds2 this morning. I took away his nappy and now have four wet pants.... Not sure if I can be bothered to do it now although he does have weewee control.

I got loads of help while on holidays so my back got much better but today, first day back and I can barely move because I am so sore... Even with dp doing loads... I don't want to think about tomorrow when I will have both ds on my own + playdate at mine.
Not sure how I'll cope for another 6 weeks....

saggybaps · 10/04/2012 09:29

Good Morning, hope everyone is blooming nicely & if you're not, not long to go!

We were at a social event at the weekend & everyone kept asking 'how long to go?' four weeks was my continuous reply. Which in my head is a comfortable distance away... my mil kept interjecting '3.5 weeks!', & my DH kept saying 'only 3 weeks!' I'm feeling that time is suddenly running away.

Panicked & of course went straight to Mothercare, spent £100 Shock & today will start getting hospital bags etc ready. Still hunting a Phil & Teds on eBay.

Bowels are in pieces, had to get up twice in the night for a number 2?! So have cut back on the painkillers for my back, which is at least now manageable.

Jealous & spurred on by the knitters I think I will start a patchwork quilt for my little girl.

We really are approaching the 'official' drop-zone... who's going first?

HeidiHole · 10/04/2012 09:45

oooh saggy that really isn't too long to go! I've still got 5 weeks and to be honest I'm already starting to think hmmm it would be quite nice to get this baby out now! How will I be at 39/40 weeks? or 42 weeks (god forbid!!)

We have our 35 week scan tomorrow (routine here everyone gets given one) to do a final check on if he isn't breech (he isn't, they're uber confident he is head down, they can feel his head in pelvis etc but the scan is a formality) and get an estimate of his weight.

At the moment they're saying (from their tape measure) that he is going to be a big 'un so we'll see what the scan says. Both me and DH were about 7lb when born but they're saying this baby will be 10lb+!!

Not that they can/will do anything if he is big, but i'd like to know so I can torment myself with the thought of passing a watermelon through a needle eye...

Is anyone else soooo tired? I am napping for about 2 hours a day AND sleeping about 9 hours a night... how the HELL do people with a child at home already to look after cope? Am I just pathetic?

cupcakefairy · 10/04/2012 10:58

You're not pathetic heidi! I had mega naps during my first mat leave, just once u have another child you're already so used to not getting much sleep I guess you just have to carry on! I am knackered but do get to nap a bit some days when ds is napping. Dunno how those with older ones & school runs etc do it!

saggy I started on my hospital bag yesterday too! Scary! I still have 5 weeks and just really hoping it doesn't become 7 like last time, going overdue is really hell!

tostaky hope your back is ok.. I only have a bit of sciatica & struggling enough, esp as ds wants me to get on the floor & play cars constantly..paaaaain! Looking forward to getting my body back (though will of course then have a baby velcroed to my boobs!!)
Good luck with any further attempts at potty training!

charles fab bargain on the travel system! I so don't get women who buy millions of prams either! A new bugaboo costs more than our last car did!!

goodname · 10/04/2012 11:16

Cupcake I agree completely. Had such a lovely pregnancy with lots of resting last time and this time you just have to get on with it. Before DS was born I thought I needed a certain amount of sleep a night, now I realise I can survive on virtually nothing. My DS also wants to play cars and dinosaurs on the floor all the time. Also we moved his slide into the house for the winter ( I know this sounds a little crazy) and he keeps trying to get me to play on it with him. Its a killer. I just keep saying daddy will do that when he comes home all the time. The one benefit to that is he is getting more attached to Daddy who is fun just now which will be handy when the baby comes.
DS was up 7 times last night so I am very sleep today. Supposed to be working but cant be bothered. I am quite glad to be working up to my due date just now as it is quite restful compared to playing with DS. I am feeling really sad that when the baby comes we wont have so much time just to play with DS1 though. I am really worried how he is going to cope when he is not quite the centre of the universe anymore. I keep trying to imagine what life will be like with 2 but I just cant quite picture it somehow. Cannot work out how I will get through a single day with 2 as 1 seems like enough work. This new baby better be well behaved, undemanding and go to sleep on its own (the opposite of ds1) or I am going to be stuck!
Have not had anymore contractions since last week so thats good. I am starting to get more organised though, I think I have everything out of the attic now. Cannot decide where this baby will sleep though. I have a moses basket, crib, amby hammock and cot but DS1 would only sleep on us to start with so hoping this baby likes at least one of the beds available!
We had snow last week for 1 day, enough to make a snow man anyway. Since then it has been non stop rain which is getting a bit boring now. I hate staying in the house all day but all the inside stuff is crowded and noisy because its the easter holidays.
Anyway better get some work done before this baby pops out I guess. Hope you are all having good easter holidays.

Wrigglebum · 10/04/2012 12:17

Another one agreeing how much harder it is in subsequent pregnancies as you don't get as much sleep. But you do get used to it, it's amazing how little sleep you can function on really! But it's not wimpy to need more- i think uou just cope on what you can get. DS very rarely naps and if he does it's out and about so days are very full on, it was great to have DH around over Easter so I could put my feet up a bit Smile. it's hard when you don't have any family around as it all falls to us but I've finally persuaded DH that we just have to drop our standards a bit- we don't need a tidy house and there's nothing wrong with the occasional takeaway or freezer meal.

I'm also starting to wonder how we'll manage with two, DS is quite good at independent play but I'm sure that'll change when he has to compete for our attention. Some people say it's harder going from one to two than from none to one! We're hoping that as our lives have already changed so much since before DS at least we don't have to adapt our lives too much now and we'll cope better. I think it also helps when you know that all those little phases pass pretty quickly and you're more confident in what you're doing.

Ds is doing so well in pants, no accidents for two days and he's only been in pants a week! He doesn't need reminding and just takes himself to the toilet when he needs to go Smile. It might be harder when we're back at playgroup as he might be too busy to remember to go though but we'll take each day as it comes.

tostaky · 10/04/2012 20:21

Re - how first born will adapt with new baby.
I was terrified of this but really it went quite well! Relax, there will be times when DC1 wants a book or something while u are breast feeding or whatever with the new baby but all in all DC1 adapt very well to younger siblings and it is such a delight to see them play together when they are older!!!

Saying that I'm worried about DS2 bc he is such a spoiled little monkey that having a little brother is clearly going to be a shock for him!

I'm exhausted, my back is killing me and I think I have the start of spd...

saggybaps · 10/04/2012 22:06

goodname wrigglebum I'm worrying about that too. My DD really is my princess. I feel guilty enough not being able to get down and play with her so much. I really can't imagine what it's going to be like with 2.

She's just so hyper & loves being chased, how am I going to be able to do that with a bambino attached to my breasticle?!

tostaky I totally sympathise with the back pain. I hope you feel better tomorrow.

oh & I think we need one of these PELVIC FLOOR

mythical · 10/04/2012 22:24

glad everyone is doing okay! nothing much to report here apart from the fact that i feel like crap, i can't sleep and baby feels like she's running out of room as she is CONSTANTLY pushing against my belly and poking me and it hurts. also had a bit of a scare the other night as i started having contractions (not BH as they feel different!) and bad tummy pains but i took 2 paracetamol and they went away. I'm gonna be 37 weeks tomorrow so officially full term... please be early!! Grin

SirCharles · 11/04/2012 08:34

Wow. Commuting with a bump.... Feels so dangerous!!! First of 2 days in the office since my 3 month holiday. So pleased it is only 2 days - only got a seat at the 2nd stop on my overland train because someone got off. Ffs I am nearly 35 weeks pregnant & look like a pregnant lady, rather than one who is merely over weight!

Nearly there ladies. Good luck to all those suffering discomfort or twinges. Wonder which one will pop next?! Cannot believe that in 2 weeks B will be considered full term. Terrifying thought. Fingers crossed we move into our new home on Friday.

Newtothisstuff · 11/04/2012 09:16

Morning girls
Hope you are all ok
I keep thinking 37 weeks full term I'm
Ages away from that yet. But I suppose it's only 2 weeks away arrgghhhh Grin
A girl I know on Facebook was due a week after me had her baby last night.. Very scary indeed
Ohh thought I'd share this one. Has my first lot of SPD physio last night and one bit of advice was to fold a duvet up and put it under your bed sheet to sleep on. I hadn't slept properly in weeks so gave it a go and GOD was it comfy, first night in weeks I haven't woken up a load of times. So I thought I'd share Smile
Has everyone got names sorted ?
My DH and I picked her name after our 20 week scan but he won't tell a soul not even our 5 year old incase she tells anyone ! It's just a nice normal name as well nothing fancy !! Haha bless him !!
