rednellie you had me convinced until the frozen spinach part Grin in fruit smoothie!? I had been looking at milkshakes but they are quite sugary. We have a smoothie maker so will definately investigate, thanks x

rednellie · 05/07/2012 22:58

Oh the spinach is to get some sort of leafy green into DD - totally unnecessary if you don't fancy it (although good for the iron!)

New recruit here. 8+3 days, had early scan yesterday as we had fertility treatment (first month of Clomid saw us get a +ive) = and it's twins! Arghh!

First babies, no history of twins in either family, both measuring well at 8 weeks, tiny little heartbeats fluttering away.

Am in total shock

Teds77 · 06/07/2012 10:18

Welcome and congrats Free! 36 weeks here and the shock doesn't really go away. DH and I are moved into the nursery and as we fell asleep last night we still can't get our heads around the fact there will be four of us in there very, very soon! Grin

baileys I try to eat a little and often through the day - have a fair bit of fruit or dried fruit and nut sort-of-thing for snacking on mid-morning/mid-afternoon. Have also got used to eating food cold - I eat what I can of dinner and then I usually try to finish the rest off sometimes an hour later...

angel yay for a good scan and I think your littlies will be okay all tucked up inside but agree - nothing is ever simple!

going hope all is still going well and you all get to go home today. Sending hugs to your beautiful girlies xxx

All well here - no sign of any birth action though! 36 week scan was a bit achy and ouchy but babies still doing well and estimated as 6lb3oz and 5lb14oz though was difficult to get very accurate measurements. Induction is booked for 19 July but consultant now being a bit cagey and suggesting we may end up with a c-section because I'm quite small and babies are starting to get quite big/might get in each other's way. Gah! Anyways, we will cross that bridge if we come to it...

bigboobsatlast · 06/07/2012 15:01

Welcome free, I just posted on your Pregnancy thread recomending you come here - and here you are already!! Congratulations again.

Hope you have made it home with your girlies Going - drop by and let us know how you are getting on when you get a chance, and post some piccies pleeeeeeeaaaaase!!!

Teds - great weights. So were you hopping to go for VB but now they look like you won't have the option? Thats no reward for growing two lovely sixed babies!! Let us know how you get on in the next week or so - and then they will be here!!!!!!

Mine are just stirring for milk so best fly....

bigboobsatlast · 06/07/2012 15:02

sixed - sized :)

rednellie · 06/07/2012 17:24

Just a quickie - Teds, do some investigating. Many many small women give birth to normal/large/multiple babies very well. Anecdotal, I know, but my best mate is tiny and she's had 3 whoppers with no pain relief. But anyway, do some research and don't worry too much, yet! Consultants are notoriously risk averse - I left mine as he was so unwilling to deliver breech babies and then I found one who would deliver them upside down if I wanted to.

BB3 · 06/07/2012 20:53

Hello

Hey free - congratulations!
Teds - well done on getting to this stage!
Baileys - I can't imagine how uncomfortable you must be with three! I'm in awe

Red - I'll pm you back ASAP

Things not so good here, k's op didn't work so we are back to square one! It's very frustrating and has us all a bit frayed this end. Ive given my notice to work early so i can spend time with the kids for a couple of months and help with k's therapy before we start up the business. But on the positive side he's no worse and the girls are doing just brilliantly! Very active, and learning every day. We have clapping, copying sounds, lots of laughter and cruising around. Ayse even climbs the blinking stairs!! Definitely keeping me busy. Edith-May is very vocal and demanding so poor Ayse seems to be a bit shy, must make more effort to ensure she's part of the craziness!

Going how are those gorgeous girls?

Hope everyone is doing ok!

angelpie2012 · 06/07/2012 20:54

Welcome free! We were also on clomid but it was our fourth cycle and we were just settling in for the long haul having expected immediate results early on. Found out at 6 weeks that we had triplets, then had a scare the same day but all looked ok again by 8 weeks - seems like ages ago now.

Also first babies for us - there are twins on my husband's side so not sure if that had anything to do with it.

But agreed that the shock doesn't wear off - I'm stil in denial! Best of luck for the next few weeks/months.

And Teds, hope you get a birth plan you're comfortable with. Such good weights for your babies though!

BB3 · 06/07/2012 21:08

Sorry realised I was replying to post from the post natal thread in there too!

Congrats slightly, pop back and tell us how you're getting on x

mrsdaisaku · 08/07/2012 09:08

Hello Ladies (waves enthusiastically),

I've been floating around MN for a month or so, but didn't know this thread was here. Blush. I'm 14weeks with mcda twins, have been referred to a consultant sonographer as the measurements for T2 was a little on the small side, as it happens they are both a little small. Now have to have scans every two weeks to keep an eye and provisionally been told that they may be boys.

Not a first time Mum and lots of twin history in my family, but not for a couple generations. Looks like I'm the lucky one... I already have a Dd 8yrs and two step daughters 5 & 4. So things are looking to be very hectic in my household.

I have a question about when to go onto maternity? And in you're experience with past twin Mums, when are twins usually born? I've seen so many different conflicting advice and havent seen my midwife since before I found out I was having twins to ask.

Off to read up on some posts to get to know you all a little better Smile

Teds77 · 08/07/2012 14:23

Yay for tennis - good excuse to do nothing this afternoon Wink

Welcome and congrats mrsdaisaku. From what I understand MCDA twins tend to be scanned regularly in the early weeks so sounds like you're in good hands. Do you mean maternity leave? I worked until 33 weeks but the last couple of weeks were pretty tough. Advice for birth tends to be ready from 32 weeks (if not before) and seems MCDA twins are usually delivered by 36/37 weeks and DCDA at 38 weeks. I don't think we've had any earlies on this thread whilst I've been on but we've had a fair few people delivering their twins at 34-35 weeks and plenty going to 36-38 weeks too. There was a really good thread a while back, here you go - www.mumsnet.com/Talk/multiple_births/1379946-How-long-did-you-carry-twins-and-was-an-EMCS-required that gives you an idea of lots of different experiences (actually informative/helpful rather than scary I think).

BB3 so sorry to hear about K - is there a follow-up appointment to work out what to do/try next? Either way, sounds like finishing work early will mean you get to spend some extra time with him and the girls. Thinking of you all xx.

red bigboobs thanks for comments. I met with my midwives yesterday and they were much more positive. I'll be honest and say I don't really care how these two arrive, just want to have them here safely. We've opted to try for VB because both are head down and little girl is engaged so seems to make sense to give it a go! I just found the consultant a bit negative about the whole thing. Anyways, despite all my worries during this pregnancy these two babies have done everything perfectly so maybe I should have a bit of faith that they'll behave themselves at birth Grin

free angel I though clomid definitely increased the chances of multiples - something like a 1 in 10 chance of multiples if you're taking it if I remember rightly??

DreamingOfPeace · 08/07/2012 17:09

Hi Mrs it'll be hectic indeed! My dcda boys were 37+6, planned section. Teds has already said most of it though!!

Yes, I thought clomid hoped your chance of multiples, the rl triplet mum I know was on clomid.

Still waiting for some kind of sleep miracle here while DD is suffering with hand foot and mouth, again!! I am tired!!!

DreamingOfPeace · 08/07/2012 17:10

Hoped?! *upped

angelpie2012 · 08/07/2012 18:39

Welcome Mrs and best of luck with the next few weeks/months.

Re: clomid, there is an increased chance of twins - our specialist said there's a 10% chance of twins but in her 20 years' experience she'd only had one other case of triplets. Depends on if you're being monitored and the dosage as well - ie we were monitored in the first cycle to make sure only one egg was released and we were on the lowest dose hence our surprise.

Apparently, you're also likely to release more eggs as you get older so wondering if that was a factor as well since I'm 32.

DreamingOfPeace · 08/07/2012 20:59

Yes, twinning increases with age. Who cares how you conceived them, clomid, ivf or naturally, its very special to be having triplets! (Though you will be asked how you conceived for ever after by every Tom Dick and harry seeing as they ask for twins, there'll be no stopping them for trips!!) . Congratulations Thanks

Now can someone please make at least one of my three go to sleep before I lose the plot?!

Luckily my boys have been super smiley and charming today and less high maintenance than usual. A good thing, poor DD's mouth is a mess so have been able to focus more on her today.

Is it you delivering next teds? Really looking forward to more babies!

And i keep checking for pics of your girlies going!

bigboobsatlast · 09/07/2012 09:49

WelcomeMrs!
Just a quiclpost from me - first full day on my own with all three - parents can not get to me because of the floods!!

Mrs, I went on mat. leave at 27 weeks and was very pleased I did - I had lots of annual leave though so although I left work at 27 weeks mat.leave did not start till lots later.

My MCDA twins were born at 36+5. They usually say to deliver MCDA at 36 weeks - either by planned c-section or induction, but in my experience they tend to let that slip (but only by one more week!) if there have not been any concerns during the pregnancy. The fortnightly scans are usual for your type of twins - it is good to be monitored so closely and see your babes every two weeks! Don't google anything and just go with the info the Consultant gives you - thats my advice any way!!!

Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS!!!! It is fab hard work being a twin mummy!

Hello everyone else - and yes, is it you next Teds? you are in the hot seat!!

Gonna try and add some more piccies later - and looking forward to seeing Goings girlies - surely she hs had time to put piccies on here by now!! Wink Grin

goingmadtrying · 09/07/2012 11:55

Hi everyone I've just uploaded a photo of my gorgeous girlies Grin I'll try and load a couple more

We came home on Thursday and it has been an eventful weekend but today I'm feeling a little better, My milk came in on Saturday, and I have been attempting to get breastfeeding established, Grace is doing well but little Freya does struggle to stay awake!! :)

Sorry going to struggle to go back and respond to all posts individually, but wanted to welcome all newbies, and echo what Bigboobs about MCDA twins, I started to see my consultant from around 16 weeks and had scans every 2 weeks, if both babies are small it may just be that you have littlier babies, they look more for the difference in weights, however I have since learnt that these aren't always accurate, my twins had been shown to be the same size give or take a couple of oz, however when born at 34+5 (due to pre-eclamsia) there was nearly 1lb difference and twin 1 was smaller than 2. I also finished work for mat leave around 26 weeks however mat pay didn't start until week 32, due to annual leave.

Hope everyone is doing ok, good luck to Teds who should be next and I will try and get on again soon :)

mrsdaisaku · 09/07/2012 16:33

Just wanted to say thankyou for all the advice, the link to twin due dates was definitely helpful, its really made me sit back and try to enjoy the pregnancy while I can and not worry too much about the birth, what will be will be :). And decided to go on Mat Leave from 30weeks. Smile Feeling much more positive about it all.

I can't wait to be a twin Mummy.
Congratulations goingmad two girls and gorgeous names.

Kazar99 · 10/07/2012 16:11

Hello everyone and welcome to all the newbies I've missed.

In the middle of moving house (although it probably wasn't a good idea to move into a house that hadn't had anything done to it while 28 weeks with twins!) and had no broadband for a week so now playing catch up.

Finish work on Friday and have to confess I can't wait. Was 30 weeks yesterday and was fine until about two weeks ago. Not sure if it's just general twin pregnancy problems or cause I've been trying to do stuff at new house in evenings after work but am now really struggling. Totally swollen feet and ankles mean I can only fit in my Birkenstocks and even struggle with them by end of day. Plus my knees seem to be totally knackered - really struggle to bend down or get down on to floor or back up again. Got stuck on bedroom floor last night while sitting packing a box. Had to shout DH to pull me up :)

Baileys I know what you mean about eating. Don't seem to be very hungry these days either and definitely not eating enough protein!

Hope everyone else is keeping well :)

Kazar99 · 10/07/2012 16:12

Sorry, that should say a house that hasn't had anything done to it for at least 20 years!

baileyslover · 10/07/2012 21:33

kazar it certainly sounds manic with you at the moment, hope finishing work signals a chance for you to put your feet up.

Had 30week scan today, all growing well, but not wholly convinced re measurements this week as they suggest all 3 have put on almost a pound each in 2 weeks, which I can't believe! Midwife confirmed I am not eating enough as had ketones in my urine, so got me a 5d prescription of rannitidine for my heartburn. Hope it settles things, but suspect when it stops I will feel uncomfortable again as the top girl's head is right under my ribcage!

Had a tour round SCBU as well today so got a picture of where they are going to spend their first few weeks. Only concern I have is that they seemed pretty busy, so need to check before they start operating on me that there will be space for all of them here.

teds hope all is good with you

Teds77 · 11/07/2012 13:11

Hello ladies - dashing a bit as am in middle of final push to get house ready for babies. The cots arrived yesterday and we put one up. Feels nice but a bit odd - this time last year I thought we might never have children and I fluctuate between worrying something will still go wrong versus being amazed I might have two babies in a week's time.

going the pictures are gorgeous - well done you on growing such lovely ladies xx.

kazar hope the house comes together and I've only been in flip flops or birkenstocks for weeks now Grin

baileys 30 weeks is brill! I'm sure my latest measurements/weights weren't very accurate. Babies have gone from around 50th percentile for most measurements to around 25th/30th - which does makes sense. However, the exception being their femurs which are now on the 90th percentile... and I'm 5ft1 Grin

Right - must go hoover and clean sheets!

DreamingOfPeace · 11/07/2012 14:40

going, beautiful pics, just gorgeous little girls youve got. A lovely family :)

Wow Baileys good weights! If my last scans were right DT1 did put on a lb in his final 2 weeks but i have to admit, I think the real banging it on stage where they can do half a lb a week was from about 34-35 weeks, but never say never!! My scans were inaccurate though, I was expecting same-sized babies, but got one a lb lighter. Scan that said he'd stopped growing that they decided was wrong was actually right!!

DreamingOfPeace · 11/07/2012 14:43

teds its such an emotional time anyway, and you'll have your two babies in your arms so soon, then it'll only take another few weeks to sink in there really are two I found :)

Good luck with the house kazaar. I was exactly the same though, fine up to 28 weeks then it hit me like a train until the end. Not tooooo long now though, and the house'll keep you busy til the end....!
