hello all,

oh my goodness I'm dying for a creme egg now!!

wants, sorry to hear you're feeling dizzy-most disconcerting! Hope it is all the rushing around and dietary changes like you say and it goes away very quickly!!!

I have had a long, loooong day with a grizzly, clingy, grotty DD after a long night with her and 6am start. Gutted- recently after bad nights she's been sleeping in til 8:30am. I took her to the GP. She has an inhaler to use before bed to see if it helps the night coughing. I am currently on the Bedtime Battle, GROAN, actually back to the standing up, crying, shaking cot barrier etc exactly as it was before all the Landing Vigil Effort and improvement.

So here I am, back on the sodding landing going 'shush shush shush' and mumsnetting. And what have I messed up? Her inhaler. Read the instructions way, way too late, and washed the spacer quickly, but it has to be dry otherwise the inhaler stuff will obviously just stick to it and not get into the baby. I did put it on a muslin on the radiator, but it wasn't happening... Plus she's got a rash all over her torso and back and arms- I'm hoping it's just viral and won't turn into chicken pox...

Tomorrow morning I'm meant to be taking DD to a Twins group at a children's centre- typically the one least convenient for me, but its only every two weeks and its the only one round here, and I rang up and asked if it would be ok to come and pick some twin mummies brains on how to lift 2, how they positioned them for feeding, if any of them bought/used twin slings etc- the practical things its good to have someone in front of you for, and she said she'd check the 'good' mums to talk to would be coming and she'd ring me if not- so please don't let this rash look worse or pox-y in the morning and please let her be chirpier!!!!!

So enough of the self-absorbed rambling...

Too, I'm sure you'll be flashing with the best of us! I once went into DH's work with my bra out- I was wearing a cross-over feeding top which you just pull down to feed the baby, had fed DD, raced her there to get papers signed by DH for our move that went through in 6 weeks flat so everything was a rush... walked in, chatted to other GP's and secretaries, DD was passed around, got back to the car and realised my top was totally pulled down off my left boob, (bra done up thank goodness) and I had indeed flashed all his colleagues my underwear, whom I will continue seeing for the next 20 blinking years!!!!

Can't remember the rest, on next page so can't scroll back, doh...

NinjaChipmunk · 23/01/2012 21:14

evening all. scream I'd forgotten we are at the same hospital! Mind you I did check my notes a while back and the placenta was not mentioned at all. Who knows, its still early days really so it could all change and get all wriggly and kicky within the next couple of weeks.
I started reading about the platelet thing and hopefully if my levels are not too low it shouldn't be a problem if its brought on by pregnancy.

dream I feel for you and your poor dd, is she asleep yet? Good luck! She'll have an immune system of steel by the time the twins get here.

wants I do hope you are ok. Take care of yourself and carry snacks!

Ds is ill too, I've had to bed hop the last 2 nights and spent most of the time in with him. His fluey cold seems to be going but its been replaced by a rather nasty bumpy rash all over his cheeks/ nose/chin. I do wonder if he's suddenly become hyper sensitive to wipes? He's been blowing his nose a lot and it is in exactly the same areas. Doesn't appear to have spread thankfully but his cheeks are so hot and I think they really itch poor sausage. He's just woken up sobbing because some kids at nursery said they didn't want to play with him because they thought he had chicken pox. He was completely distraught Sad, big gulping loud sobs. I nearly burst into tears. I think it might be time for the docs for him tomorrow if they haven't gone down a bit.

DreamingOfPeace · 23/01/2012 21:19

Thanks ninja she's just fallen asleep. Phew.

Your poor DS... not crusty rash? Every time DD gets a few little spots there I wonder if it's impetigo. Kids are cruel. How horrible to not want to play with him, if he had chicken pox he wouldn't have been there!!! Why can't the staff nip this kind of thing in the bud?!

My notes don't say where my placenta is either- not from first scan anyway, just says 2 seen.

DreamingOfPeace · 23/01/2012 21:23

oh shit, its my wedding anniversary today and DH just got home and he's remembered!!!!

crap crap crap!!!!!

Loopyhasanotherbean · 23/01/2012 21:23

dream how many days since DD had her MMR? the one main reaction we were told would probably happen would be a rash approx 7 days after. DS came down with it, along with temps 40.6. It went after a couple of days. If it's that, then its nothing to worry about passing on at the twins group.

Anyone got any tips re teething (got the front 8 so think canines or molars or both?)

DS off food, screaming with pain if he bites down on even soft things like grapes, wondering if there is anything we can do for him/give him that might help him to deal with the pain and things that he might eat? His usual teethers don't seem of use (other than the obvious pain relief like calpol and ashtons/parsons which we already use)

Loopyhasanotherbean · 23/01/2012 21:25

Happy Anniversary dream!!!!

Wrap a bow round your bump and smile sweetly Grin

DreamingOfPeace · 23/01/2012 21:26

oooh, lovely, yes, bout 10 days ago- could well be that. Phew, thats a relief looopy.

Sorry, no other teething tips.... Sad

NinjaChipmunk · 23/01/2012 21:31

happy anniversary dream and Mr Dream. I like loopy's idea of the bow.

loopy would a flannel soaked in cold water work for him to chew on?

DS will now hopefully go to sleep, we've had a chat and I've told him he can tell me anything at any time and if anyone says anything like that to him again he's to tell one of the adults who'll sort it out (or at least explain he isn't hopefully contagious). Am off to look up impetigo (thanks dream) but I'm not sure its not an allegic reaction.

NinjaChipmunk · 23/01/2012 21:33

yikes. don't ever look at impetigo on google images. I feel ill. And I doubt its that. Hopefully.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 23/01/2012 23:17

Happy anniversary Dream!

DreamingOfPeace · 24/01/2012 04:29

Sorry ninja, just have it on my mind- dd recently had a rash on her face and dh told me to check it didn't get crusty like illegible, plus my friend thought her 3 y.o might have it last week. I've never tiptoed it tho.

loopy, what about making your ds smoothies? Something calorific with bananas and yoghurt and nesquik if need be ? Or ice cream? Not ideal I know but dairy?! Poor little thing...

So tonight dd is up every hour to 2 hours. Hence 4am mn-ing. I'm so tired I can't describe it, plus maxed out on gaviscon and still suffering. That and rib pain are stopping me getting to sleep between her getting ups... And can't get her back to sleep now :-(

DreamingOfPeace · 24/01/2012 04:30

Illegible?! Impetigo. And tiptoed is meant to be Googled. Don't mn at 4 ish....

hawthers · 24/01/2012 05:13

Morning dream think of it as good practice for when the twins arrive...

I'd certainly forgotten how painful the sleepless nights were. Hope your dd gets better soon. She's certainly been through the mill recently. Seems like she doesn't have a chance to get over one illness before another hits her. This too shall pass.

Biscuitsandtea · 24/01/2012 05:54

Right let's see if I can remember everything.

Dream your poor dd, and poor you too Sad. How awful not even being able to get to sleep when she does. I also remember being told about a rash after mmr, and I do recall they told us it could be sort of 10 days after and last for a day or two. I still got a fright when DS came out in a rash - 10 days is a long time to expect me to remember something. Confused

And Ninja how sad for your poor DS - that must have been heartbreaking Sad. Hope the rash clears up - is it worth a trip to the GP just to clarify what it is? They might be able to give him something to help it clear up?

And teething too to deal with - who was it with a teething dd? (sorry, on iPad, can't go back to check). Sounds terrible. Sad sorry I don't have any suggestions as to remedies though.

Dream happy anniversary for yesterday. Sorry it just seemed to mean you having a bad night with dd (again!)

I'm sat here deciding if I've got swollen hands and feet - I am such a pg hypochondriac BlushConfused. My fingers feel sort of itchy like when they're swollen and the skin feels stretched when I rub in hand cream. And my feet feel a little similar. But I'm sure a little bit of swelling is normal. It comes on worse / more seriously for PE right? Don't think I have a headache, but the more I think about it, the more it seems to be there, but I think I'm just imagining it!

When I was pg with DS I never realised I had swollen ankles until I was in hospital after I'd had him and the mws were saying they were bad and had I been suffering with them, etc. but now I know that sort of 'stretching' / achey feeling you get when they're swollen and I'm sure I've had them on and off this pg.

Anyway I'm going to see if I can get some more sleep before DS gets up.

Laters xx
I'm sure it's nothing and I'm at the hospital anyway tomorrow for this GTT thing so can ask then then if I'm still worried Confused. And then the mw on Thursday so I'll have been well and truly checked out by the end of the week!

Biscuitsandtea · 24/01/2012 05:55

Ah yes, loopy and the teething - sorry Blush.

How many weeks are you now loopy?

NinjaChipmunk · 24/01/2012 08:29

Off to docs with ds at 9.20 he's looking a bit more pus spotty (bleurgh). Maybe it is impetigo? I bet it means I need to take timeoff work which is always a pain. Poor sausage looks rough though.

Biscuitsandtea · 24/01/2012 09:11

Sending some hugs for your DS Ninja - poor little sausage Sad

scarletfingernail · 24/01/2012 09:36

Ninja I welled up reading about your little DS. Kids are bloody horrible sometimes aren't they. I hope he hasn't got anything too nasty and the GP can help.

dream sorry to hear DD is still unwell. Have you finished work now?

Biscuits I think my fingers got a bit swollen with DS before the birth, but afterwards, OMG. My feet and ankles! I'd never seen anything like it, my feet were referred to as trotters and I had massive cankles! When he was 5 days old and admitted back into hospital I couldn't even get my shoes on. They had to find me a bed so I could get my legs up. I was in such a state about DS I didn't think too much of it at the time, but looking back I was just a walking wreck (but barely walking) Grin

Sorry to hear your DS is suffering loopy I've got no advice I'm afraid re teething. That's something that escaped us thankfully, DS didn't seem to suffer with it at all.

Speaking of whom and children being horrible sometimes. He was bitten yesterday by another child for the first time. He has never bitten anyone or experienced it so it was a massive shock to him poor thing. He's showing his poor finger to anyone who will look. He's not perfect himself and has in the past lashed out at other kids over sharing stuff, but nothing as bad as biting.

OP posts:
NinjaChipmunk · 24/01/2012 12:21

ok so she wasn't 100% sure of impetigo but said the spots were definitely septic so he is contagious and not allowed back to nursery this week. We have cream and medicine. He's in better spirits today, especially after hot cross buns and hot chocolate for breakfast.
scarlet your poor ds! DS got bitten once when he was about 2 or 2.5? You could actually count the teeth marks on his arm. However my friend also has a ds who used to bite. I think its because maybe they can't vocalise their frustration so lash out in other ways. Not nice though and I know she felt terrible when her nursery told her that her ds did it. I hope he's ok now? If still a little shocked I'm sure, it must like hell!
So I now need to break the news to work that i'm unlikely to be back in this week. Hopefully dp can get thursday off so I can get there but not sure of his schedule this week.

jaggythistle · 24/01/2012 12:57

Aw poor DS Ninja :( hope it clears up soon :(

And poor scarlet's DS too!

Also Dream's DD.

Hope all these wee ones are better and happy soon!

DreamingOfPeace · 24/01/2012 14:58

Afternoon all,

My dd is ok, just coughing a bit and off colour but I'm sooo tired- up every hour or two til 3am, then up with her til 6am-once calpoled at 3ish and seemed ok again she was just wide awake and wouldn't lie quietly anywhere and howled and screamed if left, then finally went to sleep for a couple of hours in bed with me. And now she won't go down for a nap (which I'm desperate for!) so I'm on the landing again... She's torturing me with the sleep deprivation!!

oh no ninja, poor DS. I hope the cream and medicine sorts him out pronto. Good breakfast!

Hope both your GTTs are fine biscuits and scarlet and you had a good natter while waiting! Do your boys wait patiently with you or do you arrange all these appointments when they're at nursery etc?

And scream, I've got quite a bit of stuff now, but I don't actually have anything to pack a hospital bag with!!!! So no, it's not done. Must get round to maternity pads, etc... Collected a whole shed load of boys clothes yesterday. Not labelled, tons of it- just looking at the bags and imagining the sorting out and washing and labelling into size-bags and organising whats newborn etc is filling me with dread

hello jaggy, glad all ok with you

hawthers, I remember the newborn stage well enough, must I practice like this?! A few nights like this has it all flooding back especially the despair at 5am when you realise there's not much night left and you're exhuasted

Anyway DD finally gone quiet, I'll have to wake her at 3:30 to help with tonights bedtime so I best go and have a lie down. I feel exhausted...

Wants3 · 24/01/2012 16:55

Hi all, sorry to hear about all the poorly DCs! I had a better day today, no dizziness but work colleagues made sure I didn't over do it. I had lots of comments from parents today saying how well I looked so that made me feel a bit better too! :)

musicalmrs · 24/01/2012 17:33

Hi all. So sorry to hear about the poorly DCs Ninja and Dream. Ninja - the other kids at nursery - that's so sad! :( And happy belated anniversary Dream. Did you get to go to the twins thing in the end? (if that was today?).

Biscuits, I'm a bit of a hypochondriac too, pg wise Confused. After the incidents with the bleeding, I'm trying to take a step back and review each thing I'm worried about more subjectively - though that doesn't stop me from going mad with worry. Like the fact I didn't feel the LO move for a few hours today while teaching (despite the fact I'd felt it that morning). Maybe it just likes listening to the music - I can but hope!

Thanks for further recommending Tommee Tippee scarlet. I'll definitely be getting some - though not sure if I need 6 as I'm not intending to use them much? Then again, if I only buy two, I'll be wishing I had six I'm sure.

Wants glad you're feeling better - and how lovely of your work colleagues to be looking out for you like that :)

Too, it's breastfeeding in front of the men in my family that worries me a little too! I'm sure when it comes to it I'll be so determined that I won't be put off. I was thinking that in front of my fateher would be odd - but in front of FIL?! Eek! Hadn't even considered that level of weirdness! I'm determined to do it though - lets hope that determination continues...!

Had another dizziness/almost fainting session on the train this morning. Luckily DH was with me this time, and a nice man gave me his seat (and I almost cried - yay hormones!). As this is the second time, I'll definitely mention it when I see the midwife on Fri, and will phone her beforehand if it happens again.

Was also desperate for a creme egg after the previous posts! However, DH must have read my mind - met up with him on the way home and he'd bought me one! Grin. Shame it was only the one mind...

Biscuitsandtea · 24/01/2012 18:15

Dream - GTTs are tomorrow, but I've put DS in nursery. I'm not sure he would be totally on board with the part of he instructions that say I have to sit and rest between the blood tests Grin

What are you doing with your DS Scarlet?

Dream hope your dd starts to feel better and the inhaler starts to work tonight. Is it one of those things where it should work straight away or do the benefits sort of build up over time? How does it actually work for one so small? Presumably she doesn't have to do the big intake of breath like grown ups do when they use inhalers?

Musical I'm sure your little one must love listening to music Smile. I'm still so paranoid about something going wrong this time and I think that's what makes me such a hypochondriac. Plus I know so much more of what could go wrong this time, which is good in one way and almost entirely down to MN Grin

Ninja how is your DS's rash?

Scarlet poor DS getting bitten - I bet he was shocked to say the least! I have to say DS did bite either 2 or 3 times at nursery when he was between 18 mths - 2 years. As Dream said with her friend, it is absolutely mortifying! He's never done it since. I think each incident was some sort of toy dispute at nursery and occasionally he was on the receiving end of either bites or hits etc. The difficult thing was that we couldn't rectify the behaviour at home because he never did anything like it at home (as no one was ever after his toys!) and at 18 mths there was limited benefit from trying to do anything about it several hours after the event. I do hope your DS is ok now though and getting over the shock Sad

I've forgotten everything else now. I'm shattered today and just about to bath DS so I don't have to do that and bedtime all in one go. I'm also planning how to get the most amount of food in before 10pm when I have to stop eating! I've had dinner with DS and am thinking I can eat something just before 10. Perhaps a snack in between too Grin. I must remember to take some food with me tomorrow for after the test as I have to go straight for my scan appt so won't have time to go and get any food Confused

scarletfingernail · 24/01/2012 19:07

DS will also be at nursery tomorrow while I have my GTT. DH will be going into work later than normal so he can drop him off as I'll be at the hospital for about 8.30. I avoid taking DS to any appointments anyway, so if it doesn't fit in with when he's at nursery I ask Mum or MIL if they wouldn't mind having him. Luckily he always goes to nursery on a Wednesday morning anway. There's no way I could expect him to sit quietly in a waiting room for 2 hours.

See you in the morning then Biscuits. Are you taking a snack with you? I was just thinking if you've got to wait to see a consultant after yours you'll be very hungry and I've been told that the food available to buy is pretty rank. I won't bother as I'm going straight home after mine.

wants so relieved to hear you're feeling better today and your DS too Ninja. I hope you start seeing some signs of your DD recovering soon dream.

DS is fine, his fingers look ok. I'm trying to change the subject if he goes on about it, I don't want to make it a bigger deal than it needs to be.

Oooh I have an update re boilergate. It's being serviced this week, I didn't have to mention it again. Relief Smile
