Hi No Brookers! I do hope this has worked and is in the right place...

I've added a few extra sofas so we have plenty of space for all the Rat Smackers who will be joining us soon. There's also a nice long table filled with mince pies, yule logs, gingerbread snowmen and xmas puds! Plus some non-alcoholic mulled wine. I've strategically positioned a few clean glittery vom buckets under the table, just in case it's still a bit too early for xmas munchies for some people!

As you were...

just nipped on quickly, not sure who is looking at getting baby jogger, but i can back up dreamscomment that they are great. We have the baby jogger city select, and cannot fault it, it is brilliant and is so flexible re seating combinations, we bought it mindful that we didn't want a massive age gap between DC's, and it will does us proud as there will only be a 22 month age gap so DS will still be going in the buggy for a while!

pommedenoel · 08/01/2012 15:03

Ooo I love Madeline Muscial - another one of my ideas that dh vetoed (he is so annoying). We're stuill planning opn Abigail and I've even been training dd1 to call the baby Abbie!

Just back from an exhausting weekend at the PILS where dd slept whet felt like barely at all. Hoping all the good progress of the last week hasn't been totally wiped out by it.

My bump is so tight and high at the moment, getting really breathless and have horrible indigestion/reflux. Yuck.

Hope everyone else is good. i'm quite jealous of the first timers getting to choose all their new stuff again rather than just cleaning stuff from the garage!

musicalmrs · 08/01/2012 15:05

Wants, also liking the name Dexter! (sorry, got a bit caught up in my own world there!). We've also kept our name choices secret in RL - don't want anyone telling us they know a serial killer by that name or something similar!

Loopy, it's me who was looking at the Baby Jogger - well, no longer looking as we ordered one! Should be able to collect it next week sometime - I'm very excited!

Dream, Madeline is our favourite too at the moment - although I want a list in case we had a DD and whichever name we'd picked didn't seem right. However, we're both thinking it's a boy now.. and whereas we've had a girls list in existence for some time, we've only just started the boys one really.. typical! Glad to know the sharing of the first initial doesn't bother you :) We're in the middle of working on the boys short list - it's currently a long "hmm" list, hopefully it'll boil down to a proper short list after a bit of mulling over.

scarletfingernail · 08/01/2012 15:45

Your girl name options are lovely Musical, traditional and pretty yet not overly used. I like Eleanor shortened to Nell. Will be interested to hear your boys names when you've had a bit more of a think.

I've tackled the ironing pile. An hour and a half in and I'm about halfway through. Going to give it up for today now though. What with having taken DS swimming this morning, I'm now pooped.

Those of you looking to buy nursery furniture. This is what we went for when expecting DS
Babystyle Calgary
We got the set for £700 at the time and I can confirm that it's excellent quality, looks gorgeous and all still in perfect condition 3 years later. We'll be using it for DC2 so I can fully recommend. When the cot changes into a junior bed the 2 end panels are in 2 halves so you just take the bottom one out and the top one moves down. You'd never know it had been a cot.

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 08/01/2012 16:13

Ironing? I don't know what that is!
Scream I would definitely recommend coming on holiday to Devon, even in the winter...

Music could you change Drs surgery? They sound rubbish!

Pomme I hope you feel better, just start the week countdown :)

I have bought about 6 new unisex nappies in the Itti Bitti sale I love the bitti tuttos! I would definitely recommend them, once you have cracked the inserts and found the best fit for the baby they are just fabulous! Sale ends at 12 tonight.

For Dd we bought her this;It is surprisingly solid and quite nice, we liked the price and bought it on a 20% off day in Homebase The cotbed has a low foot end but is still in cot mode, even though Dd is getting old now. Wink

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 08/01/2012 16:15

Loving Musical's girls names, I particularly like that spelling of Kathryn.

All this talk of cots is making me rethink my cot choice! I think the 3 bears cot is gorgeous but Dream's cot (Cosatto Hogarth) is a great brand and it has a good guarantee as well... So torn!

I'm impressed with the ironing efforts Scarlet! I'm having yet another weekend stuck on my side all day, so the 2nd bedroom is no closer to being cleared out, sigh...

Wants3 · 08/01/2012 16:51

Loving your girls names toomusical

Wants3 · 08/01/2012 17:04

Sorry for brief previous post, DH called me to sign some legal papers! Back to names, if this one had been a girl DH had his heart set on Zoe.
If I go with our name choice I will end up with a PHD! ( initials of my children in age order)

musicalmrs · 08/01/2012 17:34

Thanks for the lovely name feedback :) pomme, I like Abigail (especially shortened to Abbie!) too, but there's one in the family so sadly it didn't even get a look in :( Madeline was DH's suggestion.. actually, as was Kathyrn Scream -can't take credit for the spelling, DH's choice (family name, but he wanted a modern twist).

A couple of questions for all you much more experienced preggos (be it first time or another time round!):

Firstly, is constantly being able to see your heart beat in your belly/bump normal? It's something I've been wondering for a while, but only just thought to ask (d'oh!). Could it be something to do with an anterior placenta?

Secondly.. Purple has reminded me - cloth nappies. I know they're greener, they probably work out cheaper in the long run (shelling out more initially vs. constantly paying for nappies!)... but are they good? Are they easy enough to clean (and do they wash clean well? Or do you have to soak them (not that that's a problem!), or do you have to 'retire' them after a while due to age?). Do you wash the whole thing, or just inserts? I'll admit to being completely clueless, and would love some advice from those of you who know much better than me!

Biscuitsandtea · 08/01/2012 17:55

Oooh, Abigail is near the top of our girls list too. With Isabelle. And some others. Which I can't even remember now!

Sorry no time to post more - have just scan read the last 10 squillion posts that have gone on today - you lot have been chatty!!!!

Sorry if you said, Purple what was your mw appt about? Nothing bad I hope?

Musical hope your call from the gp is nothing to worry about too.

Sorry if I've missed owt else important? Just trying to get tea ready......

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 08/01/2012 18:10

I haven't heard any names I dislike, what impeccable taste you all must have!

Now cloth nappies, I love them. I would buy a few different types and see what works best for your Baby's shape. Gets some Bitti tuttos as they are in the sale and RRP at 17.50 usually, and are very, very adjustable also get some Rockin' Green laundry powder while you are at it.Wink You can use standard washing detergent but I have found this stuff the best and Dd is very prone to rash/thrush so I have to be careful.

You wash everything, I separate out the inserts from the outers (usually before I stick them in the bucket) so they wash a bit better, I rinse them once in the machine, (to get rid of any wee) then put them on a 40 or 60 wash, do two further rinses and dry. My machine takes in hardly any water so I need to rinse more than you might need.

I also use disposable mio liners as I am not really a poo person, especially not first thing in the morning (thanks DD!) the liner catches the poo and you throw the liner and poo down the toilet. if I have run out liners I tip as much poo down the loo as possible by turning the nappy inside out ,and rinse the nappy under the flush. I also give two rinses before I put the nappies on to wash if I don't have any disposable liners to remover 'solids.'

For storage I 'dry pail' them stick them in a bucket with a lid and leave them. I am going to have to buy a larger bucket so buy the largest you can find, perhaps consider a lockable one if it will be kept where LO can get to them... Envy

I did start off using disposables and it was costing me £10 a week, so although I have spent about £300/400 (as I like fancy fluff!) It is a saving overall, (especially as my originals are 2 1/2 years old and will be going to new baby!) I also have loads of nappies so that I don't have to wash as often. The liners do cost about £5 for 160 liners but they last a long time. And you don't have to use disposable liners, they are just my preference.

If you look in their advice section they have lots of information, I like their site generally. I buy nappies when I see them on offer so have only once bought full price nappies and they were a trial pack so had a couple of freebies!

It is also worth thinking about how you will be drying them, most outers (the waterproof outer part) cannot go in a tumble dryer, also some materials dry faster than others. I have some that I use first out of a wash as they dry quickest (Close parent Dream dri-they have just released a new version with miny inners which will be gorgeous as minky is really soft) and some that don't get used until right at the end. Although at the moment all the inners (absorbent parts) are going in the tumble dryer! The outers of my Bitti tuttos also go in the tumble although this will eventually shorten their life.

As for wearing, a few of mine are going to be retired in awhile as the velcros is getting worn, but I have used them pretty intensively for 2 1/2 years and they are the ones I first bought and I washing them almost daily as I didn't have as many nappies back then. They are still working, fine just possibly won't last another year!

I hope this gives you an idea!

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 08/01/2012 18:13

Oh and being good, Dds nappy rash is better in cloth, also she was terrible for exploding leaky poos, hardly ever happens with cloth unless she is poorly, whereas regular occurrence with disposables and ruined a lot of her early clothes! Oh and cloth bums are really cute, and are soft. Dd also has certain prints she prefers the look of, which is so sweet!

TheLittleFriend · 08/01/2012 19:27

Wow, you lot have been chatty today!

I haven't heard any names I dislike mentioned either, I particularly like Dexter, we considered that for dc1 (who turned out to be a dd anyway Smile

I'll let you lot know my favourites for this baby, but I haven't even discussed them with my dp yet! I absolutely adore the name Jude for a boy, and my heart is set on that. And I love Honor for a girl, which I know is quite unusual, but I can't get that one out of my head now. I've got a feeling dp will veto both!

Sorry for not name-checking people, I'm feeling a bit too tired to read through again. DD slept well again last night but was up at 6.30. I think she'd have gone back to sleep with the dummy, but we had to get up. I know that's not really early, but I'm still in the first trimester knackered stage, so it hit me hard!. But she was asleep within a minute of going down tonight, so I'm not complaining.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 08/01/2012 20:30

£10 a week on disposable nappies?? Blimey.

Hawthers, lovely to hear that Farley is doing so much better and feeding away. Hope you get home soon.

Oooh, I love Honor and Eleanor and Madeleine (spelt that way - my little sister's name!). Sebastian used to be DH's favourite boy's name, but BIL nicked it. I am starting to freak out about names - current no 1 is Maia, but I'm just not sure it's 100% right. It feels like I have to decide really soon now I have a CS date.

Musical, I can often see or feel my heartbeat in my bump too! I know it's mine and not Bean's by taking my pulse. No idea why it's visible.

Right, am off to play hairdresser - DH wants me to trim his hair with his beard trimmer thingy...Grin

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 08/01/2012 20:40

Too- including wipes!

I like Honor and also Hero I adore! But that Myleene bint used it if iirc.

Maia is nice to, very sweet. Oh MW appt was just a standard one I was just concerned as there was a mix up and she brought me in ealry, that there was something bad about my blood tests last week. As it turns out the blood transfusion one clotted, I don't need t re-done though as I rhesus + and needlephobic. Bleurgh.

Where is everyone, I am sat on the computer Dh is watching a film, perfect opportunity to chat. I have even started to look for sources for essays this is how bad it is getting. Wink

musicalmrs · 08/01/2012 21:02

Wow, thanks for all the information Purple, so kind of you to take so much time replying! :) I'm very intrigued, and would really like to give them a go - using disposables at the very beginning perhaps, but favour washables for a long term solution. Can't buy them while they're on offer at the moment as I think DH needs a little more convincing - so I'll see how I get on with him ;) Will keep an eye out for a future sale instead! I'd probably go for the disposable liners too - the poo issue was the bit concerning me slightly!

We don't have a tumble dryer, so will have to get some that dry relatively quickly - or ensure we have some that do at least! Thanks ever so much again :) Loving that website too - have sent DH a couple of links from it to mull over before I press the issue with him again Wink

Too, Maia's a lovely name! I'm having the same 100% problem with boys names - none of the ones we come across seem right. The pulse thing is so strange isn't it..! Hope playing hairdresser went well!

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 08/01/2012 21:16

You could always buy a couple of these and see if you like the look of them Wink the red bitti tutto is very cheap...
They are not very quick drying, although you can buy extra microfibre sets.
This is the new version of the quick drying ones we have, they come out of the washer practically dry! You don't need a tumble dryer, I have only had one a year, but I don't have room to have airers around in the winter.

I literally bought a few and saw how we got on and added to my stash over time. And it is no problem writing about it, it is a subject I am keen on.
I will be using disposables until at least all the meconium is through (stains) and possibly a bit longer.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 08/01/2012 21:21

Well, it's dramatic - DH said he wanted a no 4, after having had very thick longish hair (probably a good 2 inches long). He now looks like a convict and went hmm, didn't really mean to go that short! Oh well, his hair grows really quickly. Grin

Purple, glad the MW appt wasn't anything to worry about. Will read the disposable nappy links. Do you have to have buckets of pooey nappies soaking in the kitchen?

DreamingOfAWhiteChristmas · 08/01/2012 21:31

Quick pop on but DD still not asleep, 9:20pm.... back up to give her a cuddle I think.

Reusable nappy chat is so useful! We bulk buy disposales when they're on offer, we've almost never paid full price for them either!!! Will have to ask DH how much a week he reckons we spend... Not sure I could cope with the washing for twins though. We'd need millions, and we lack storage! Hmm... Not really thought about this yet.

Just tried driving the minibus to escape the house without DD. I can't. End of. It feels like a minibus. It has a turning circle like the QE II. I'm seriously thinking we need to get front and rear parking sensors not just rear, even though that'll set us back significantly, as I am genuinely shocked at how big it is to drive!!!!! Maybe I'll get used to it?!?!

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 08/01/2012 21:43

Dream I was with my MIL, she was angsty about parking their new Land rover in a space when there was a transit van fitting perfectly fine between the lines. It just feels so big to her! She is getting used to it, so I am sure you will to.

Too I do not do poo/shitscraping/rotting shitty nappies soaking in water.etc I use a liner that catches the poo, I grab the liner by the corners and flush it down the toilet.
I then separate the nappy's parts i.e my tuttos have 3 snap in, absorbent parts and throw them in the (dry) bucket. The bucket has a mesh bag in it so when the bucket is full I just throw the bag in the washing machine and commence washing. Have a read here I really don't have to touch poo or deal with it much. I can't be dealing with poo like that. Envy

DreamingOfAWhiteChristmas · 08/01/2012 21:55

Agree on the disposables smelling- ours have to go straight outside into the black wheelie bin, or at a minimum in lashing rain, chucked out front door in nappy bag to be added to black bin later. Yuck.

and lol purple, that'll be me then!!!! I'm going to put a 25+1 week bump pic on- have you done another yet?

Wants3 · 08/01/2012 21:58

Great info purple I am planning to use the voucher I got in the bounty pack for a free pack of huggies for the first few days and then take the plunge into reusables. I am also going to use reusable wipes. I bought a cheeky wipes pack from the baby show but apparently it is easy enough to make your own with cut up fleece and a couple of plastic tubs!
Lots of lovely name ideas on here BTW. We must all have such good taste:)
I also have my heartbeat in my stomach and have just started to see visible kicks. DH has yet to feel them yet as soon as he puts his hand on my tummy the little man goes still!

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 08/01/2012 22:06

Dream the pic is on the agenda!

Wants Cheap, thin towels/flannels cut up do the job well, I wouldn't go for fleece as they don't grip and shift the poo. I did have the cheeky wipes, expensive for what it is although was nice to get a set. Anyway I use disposable wipes at the moment as they were easier for the child minder and it is habit, especially as I didn't find them convenient when out and about and lost loads! I should probably try again...

This baby hides as soon as anyone wants to feel for kicks!

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 08/01/2012 22:09

Oh I also had an Angelcare disposables bin, I got free with a voucher. Waste of time! Just had a long sausage of absolutely viles nappies! And the refills are £££s! Don't waste your money!

DreamingOfPeace · 08/01/2012 22:17

Right. new name for not-Christmas-any-more time, and my pic is on, plus one of 38 weeks with DD. Which was taken when I was 38 weeks in our old yard, given notice to our agents and were trying to take some pics of the Yarden (!!) in the sun for when we put the house back on the market... I was joking maybe a fat pg lady would swing it?! Little did I know we'd swap our house 7 days on from this pic and move 7 weeks 4 days after it was taken Shock. Chop chop with yours purple Wink. So yours will be a 32 week pic? or 31+ something at least?
