Congratulations Truffkin H007 and Buffy!
Thoughts are with all of you still waiting, I haven't forgotten the frustration.
So, my little baby boy was born on Wednesday at 20.21, weighing 8lbs 6oz. My epic story...I started having contractions on Monday night at about 8pm and went to bed that night with the TENS machine on. I was up at 4am as couldn't really sleep through the contractions and they went on throughout Tuesday with me and DH trying to go for some walks and rest as much as possible. By Tuesday afternoon I was being quite sick and couldn't keep anything down and that was getting more annoying than the pain of the contractions.
I called the midwife to let her know I was in labour and they told me to contact them again when my waters went or contractions were 4 mins apart. They were about 4 mins apart by 11pm and the mw came out to see me but I was only 3cms so she left again and I spent a pretty sleepless night trying to get any rest possible. I called the mw again who came back at 6.30am but I was still only 3cms - I couldn't believe it as the pain was so much more regular and intense.
As I was 41+3 on Wednesday I was due to be induced anyway so she offered to break my waters to see if that would get things going. I agreed and there was meconium in the water so I had to wave goodbye to my hoped for homebirth and head into hospital. DH and I got our stuff together and got to hospital at 8.30am. I was examined and was 5-6cms which was great news.
I had to be constantly monitored because of the meconium but I could still use the pool in our room with some fancy monitor which was great news so I was in there for a few hours and by 11.20 I was 8cm dilated and the mw got me out. Things were progressing well and we all thought it would soon be over but then I got stuck at 8cm and I was still there at 15.30! I agreed to a synotocin drip to get things going and by 6pm I was fully dilated and could start pushing. At 7.20 I was still pushing and after being examined by 2 doctors they weren't entirely sure which way the baby was facing and we decided to go for assisted delivery. I was so exhausted by this point I just needed to get him out so we went into surgery and after getting through almost 48 hours on gas and air I had to have an epidural! They gave me the epi at 8pm and at 8.21 out little boy was born, with the aid of ventouse and forceps. It wasn't ideal but I was glad I didn't have to have a c-section, which would've been the next step so I'm looking on the bright side.
I had to stay in hospital until Friday as I was having lots of problems breastfeeding which was really hard and I had to give him formula but today he has breastfed twice which I am ecstatic about and just hope I can keep it up. Its been a rollercoaster few days but I think I'm getting back to myself now.
All apart from a horrendous headache I have had since the birth. I have been assured its not dural tap headache as I am up and about and not laid flat on my back but it is the worst headache I've ever had with a constant vibrating, rumbling in the my head. Has anyone else experienced this? Its really debilitating. Would be grateful for ay advice?
Sorry for such a monster post but felt quite cathartic to write it all down.
Anyway, my boy is so gorgeous I feel like the luckiest mum in the world.
MrsA, I see there's no word from you today so I hope something's happening....
