First meal once this Sprout is out: Sushi and plum wine. Followed by a nicely stuffed pipe of cherry tobacco and a sizeable glass of port. I may also have a cheese board of unpasteurised French cheeses, with salami and prosciutto. And pate. So much pate.

:O

goldmaple · 20/07/2011 00:15

cali sushi will def be one of the first things I eat:) have been eating lots of the cooked sushi but its not the same.

Hi princess welcome! When are you due and is this your first?

lkane yay for team pink!

H007 great to hear about all the kicks:) Bubba did the same thing to me but she has picked up moving alot and apparently 24-28 wks are when they move most before running out of room

caz sorry to hear that you are having a stressful time. Really glad that your hospital is understanding and helpful!

cep have you heard from chipmonkey since you mentioned her absence a couple days ago? or has anyone? Hope she's doing alright.

staceroo restless leg is when your legs feel 'creepy-crawly' - can't think of any other way to describe it, but it is different from a cramp.

PoppysMom · 20/07/2011 01:56

Hi all and sorry I've been so quiet. I was on holiday for two weeks and the first week was absolutely amazing, but the second not so much.
We went for hospital tours and have settled for one now, which we are both happy with, so that is one worry off our minds.

DH and I went to Indonesia by ferry, which was nice and baby kicked a lot on the way over.
Hotel was a bit of a let down and then after 4 days I got the most awful cramps and diahorrea. I barely slept at all, couldn't eat anything, as nothing stayed in.
Once we were back in Singapore we went to the OB for a standard appointment and baby was fine. OB wasn't concerned at all and just said to keep drinking water to keep hydrated.
Baby also moved so much less whilst I was so sick that I kept getting worried.
Now, 8 days after all this started without having eaten any real food apart from bananas, apples and plain rice in small portions I feel loads better.
I have managed to lose all the weight I gained during the pregnancy and then some :(
Baby has been more active again though, which is fantastic.

We went to Ikea last weekend between bad spells and bought a chest of drawers and a sofabed to go into the Nursery/guest room.

We also went to Mothercare and have decided on the Baby Jogger City Mini Stroller with the Pramette. In addition we found a really cute cot bed we will be buying with a changing thingy to go on top.
I am so excited and can't wait to go back this weekend to buy it (the great Singapore sale is on, so huge discounts are to be had)

I have spent a lot of time catching up with this thread, but unfortunately my brain has been turned to mush and I can only remember stuff from the last page or so....

Caz sorry you are having such a rough time lately. I am glad that you have support in RL though. Hope you feel better soon.

Welcome princess!

H007 I found that bubs was much more active during holiday. I think I had more time to concentrate on bump. I am so pleased that baby is kicking up a storm for you.

KnockedUp I feel sad that there is no name that you love for your little boy :(

Congratulations on team pink lkane

I hope you are all well :)

H007 · 20/07/2011 06:03

I was just thinking last night and from reading posts on here it makes you wonder apart from the exact moment you are being scanned and maybe for a honeymoon period after is there any moment during pregnancy that you're not worrying or stressing about something? Haha think pregnancy has been the most stressful part of my life so far!

knockedup I'm not married and I told OH that he could choose the surname if I could choose the first name haha... A sneaking way of getting my own way really :)

Wishing everyone a happy hump day.... As in once you're over the hump of lunchtime it's downhill to the end of the week :)

TwoJackRussellsandabean · 20/07/2011 06:29

Morning all,

apologies for my massive post, got a bit over excited about getting a newer car finally Blush, didnt get much sleep last night as I started thinking about things too much, that'll teach me!!!

Caz, sorry to hear you are having such a worrying time, is there anything you and H can do to limit it? Maybe plan a treat or holiday or something to give you something else to focus on? Am so sure that this is meant to be for you, so lets hope we get past the 32 week point quickly and then you can relax a little more :)

PamSco · 20/07/2011 08:09

H007 I can genuinely say that other than the 1st 2 or 3 weeks after the positive test I have not worried or stressed in the pregnancy. To me worry and stress = adrenalin and this stresses the baby.

That isn't to say there haven't been reasons to be concerned but I have to stop the stress and take action to minimise the negative feelings. For example when they were threatening risky surgery I made a mental list on how to assemble the information I needed rather than stop and worry.

It's my theory that the more stress and therefore adrenalin you experience and expose your babs to the more likely they will be difficult anxious babies. My sister lost her 1st baby at 36 weeks and when she was having her 2nd I was so worried for her but she was so calm and serene because she had to be. Her little girl is the calmest baby I have ever met, eats and sleeps like a dream. If I can match my sis's serenity by half, I'll be happy.

mashpot · 20/07/2011 08:42

Morning Caz hope you have a better day.

poppet the muscles thing sounds scary, I hope the tubegrip helps.

My osteopath appt yesterday was good. They told me I have a slightly curved spine and they could see where my back was straining with the extra weight I'm carrying and did some tissue massage as well as showing me some exercises to do at home that will help. I'm going back for the next 2 weeks and then they think going once every 3 weeks throughout the rest of the pregnancy should be ok.

The ligament pain in the bottom of my bump was terrible all day though. DH wanted to take me to hospital by the evening but I could feel baby moving so just had a bath and went to bed and it is better this morning but I can't do my usual 30 min walk from the train to work and will have to bus!

I'm enjoying the purchasing news as we won't be buying anything fir a while yet.

PrincessVivy · 20/07/2011 09:37

Folicacid · 20/07/2011 12:01

Welcome princess and other newbies! add your details if you like to the stats thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/1157973-Nov11-Stats-only

Poppy's Mom Do you mind me asking, what does the pramette look like attached to the city mini? I like this as a opushchair but haven't seen it with a carrycot attached. I can't imagine how it works!

I've been a stress head in pregnancy with all the bleeding etc. I also have a very adren rushy job and often then start to worry about poor baby in there will all that rushing around but apart from give up work I can't completely eradicate it. Have been very much trying to stay calmer and ore chilled and I definitely care less about things (oops) but the nature of the work means that you get a big whoooooomf when you have to react to something quickly. I'm not some fab brain surgeon or whatever incase you are wondering.

Folicacid · 20/07/2011 12:04

Argh, clicked too soon. Also, Poppy's Mom meant to say I feel your pain. I had a horrendous week on one of the islands off Lombok years ago with gastro just as you are describing. Think I ate plain rice and flat coke. The only thing I enjoyed was the weight loss but can imagine that the worry about baby completely took that over. They are hardy wee things though!

PoppysMom · 20/07/2011 12:46

Folic there are two ways of attaching the bassinette/pram bit.
Pictures here and here
I prefer the second option, so will be having it like that.
Only downpoint, you have to take the bassinette out before you can fold (I think)

My day has been very stressful, but thankfully for me it's already over now :)

Today is the first day that I have eaten proper food again and I feel so much better, although I am still cramping a little every now and again. Baby is still very active and loves kicking me, so reckon he's fine.

Folic, any stomach bugs are horrendous and I really hope that none of us have to ever have another one of those.

DH just told me that his company have agreed to bump us up upon Poppy's arrival to he next housing allowance band, which comes in very handy, as we are currently paying a fortune and me no longer working had me worry financially.
Would be nice if we knew how much the next band up was though Hmm

On other good news, my DH has booked us to go to the Maldives for a week to our honeymoon island in the beginning of September and I can't wait :)

cep · 20/07/2011 14:24

afternoon ladies,

poppy'smom sorry you were feeling so ill while away, glad you're getting better though. good news about the housing though. and so jealous about the maldives.

princess all i can suggest about sleeping is if it because you're uncomfortable getting a pillow like the dream genii is an idea, they are fab. Also a good nighttime routine is a good idea, relaxing bath, warm drink. anything that relaxes you, but it needs to be a regular routine.

well i've had a mixed day at work, have been told due to my spd i can have a parking space near the front door, but they've refused my working pattern for when i get back. not too suprised though, will just ask again nearer the time, and will ask my lm to put in the request if anything changes in the meantime. So annoying as i know there are people working termtime when they don't need to anymore.

OP posts:
Caliphora · 20/07/2011 14:39

Poppy will they let you fly in September?

Folicacid · 20/07/2011 16:48

Food for for thought Poppy's Mom...can see why you prefer the second option, the first looks a bit weird? The baby jogger is the first buggy I really liked but then couldn't see it working from birth. Carry cot makes that feel different. The folding mechanism is absolutely brilliant. I also liked the city select too but it just feels a bit bulky to me and I worry would struggle to get on the bus.

Cep bet once people start working term time though they grow to love it whether they 'need' it or not. Totally annoying though.

I bought the dream genii pillow a few weeks ago but haven't fallen for it yet. Feels like I'm wrestling around with an overly amorous lover so often find it on the floor beside the bed Grin

Here, you know all this pram and buggy buying business? I feel like it's just one giant confusing con as as far as I can see you are encouraged to go out and spend £400/500/600/700 gulp plus quid then have to go out and buy another one that is lighter and more stroller-like when they are about one years old. So although they say will do child up to 4 or 5, reality is that people end up with 2 or 3 buggies by then...or am I missing something?

yay to osteo appointments and parking spaces and newer cars...

Caliphora · 20/07/2011 20:18

Folic OR you go and find something nice and brilliant for under £100 in a second hand shop.

We've got a baby exchange shop in Glossop, they're selling a complete Silvercross system for £95, last years model.

As I said before, our budget was £500 IN TOTAL (not including clothing or consumables, obviously). So far I've spent £165. I reckon with some sensible spending at IKEA, even if we're getting the expensive mattress, we'll come in at around £450.

I could not in my wildest dreams justify spending more than that on a cotbed alone, or a pram. I'd rather save the money in a fund for their university years.

busyboysmum · 20/07/2011 20:42

So far I have spent about £50!! And that has been on maternity stuff and a dream geni pillow so all about my comfort - not that I can really get to grips with the pillow either. Actually I have abandoned it in our caravan for the last couple of weeks and just got by with normal pillows.

We have been given most of our stuff, and I have got loads off freecycle as well. As it is 3rd and last (probably) I really don't feel the urge to splash out on expensive stuff and would rather spend it elsewhere.

Good news on hubby's RHS Tatton Show Garden - he got a silver medal so we were there today with the boys filming for local TV shows and having pics taken for the newspapers - so hoping it will generate lots of work for hubby.

AM completely knackered now so am vegging on the sofa thank goodness only two more school days till the hols.

Caliphora · 20/07/2011 20:51

DPs colleague is expecting too, and they were gushing about how they've managed to get a discount on the nursery furniture - down to £2000.
DP nearly choked on his morning coffee.

bumpandisaacsmum · 20/07/2011 21:25

cali I like your way of spending - though there are a few bits that I have spent a little more on. We have got a lot of stuff that was second/third hand for DS and will be getting it back from my sis for baby. A friend has also given us first refusal of all of their baby stuff as they have decided their family is complete. Saving on all of these bits means that I am happy having spent more on the bits that I wanted to be more specifc about (pushchair, change bag and bedding).

I cannot believe £2000 for nursery furniture after savings - OMG!!!

Folicacid · 20/07/2011 22:16

I've ruined myself by going to pram shops with the real genuine earnest aim of checking out what we liked and getting it second hand on gumtree...er...fatal flaw. End up liking ones that you don't see on gumtree. Doh moment. Ebay always seems to be pick up only. Apart from that though not going to be going mad, hangmedown moses basket and other bits and will get hangmedown clothes too. Do want to decorate the baby's room though.

busyboys congrats on the manc utd garden, that will surely bring in lots of business...bet he's feeling really proud.

smilingcl · 20/07/2011 22:39

Ooh Poppy, I echo the flying comment, not sure you're allowed?!

Folic, I'm going to get a second hand maclaren techno xt, they're super light and manouverable and the newer models lie flat so are suitable from birth. My friends got one and it's great, plus it's rated no 1 one here. Think you need a separate car seat tho.

Question for you ladies, has anyone else got an achy poonani? I feel like it might fall out if I walk too far, forgot to ask the mw about it today.

Folicacid · 20/07/2011 22:49

Aw naw smilingcl something else to pore over online! just had a squizz, under £200 new. Brilliant. If it is from birth, is that with cosy toes whatsit then? Will that be warm enough for a wee november baby? Genuine question.

smilingcl · 20/07/2011 22:58

I have no idea, good question! I reckon so, with a footmuff thing and maybe an all in one snowsuit if it's very cold?!

Staceroo · 20/07/2011 23:06

Cheeky bookmark! X

Folicacid · 20/07/2011 23:12

smiling I'm thinking back to how cold and snowy last november and december was but I spose if it gets that bad again won't be going out much anyway as won't get any buggy along the pavements. So many good reviews for the maclaren.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 20/07/2011 23:21

another very cheeky bookmark. Have been reading everyday but not got round to posting....where is the time going?!!!

Have my 2nd '20wk' scan tomorrow to make sure all is well. Am going to ask for another go at the sex, despite DP being in Germany so I'm going alone. Hey ho.

And once my 91 yr old grandma has come to stay this weekend and headed home again, the spare room will slowly become DD's new room and I can turn her room back into a baby one. :)

And on prams, we spent just over £500 on an iCandy apple, with matching foot muffs, snuggle, raincover and sunbrella. All (IMO) totally worth it. We still use it to this day, pram and pushchair bit face either way, which is great, the maxicosi newborn car seat fits it (we will use again) and it will be used for the new baby, so zero spend this time round. It's a workhorse and very good condition.

We did by a £70 McLaren pushchair but just for holidays as it is collapsible which is better for travel on a plane etc. Having borrowed an obaby one for hols too, i totally recommend mclarens.
