New thread. Should last us a week.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BarbieLovesKen · 19/04/2011 16:41

Sasamaxx are you starting the raspberry leaf capsules now? I was considering this today but keep reading conflicting advice about inducing labour (very doubtful Hmm).

sasamaxx · 19/04/2011 16:51

Was planning to look it all up Barbie - I can't remember when I'm allowed to start them.
There are 60 in the pack and it advises 2 a day, so that's a month's supply - I could always wait until 35-36 weeks so that I had the right amount I suppose.
When are you going to start them? (I have no mind of my own and have to copy someone lol)

Joannezipan · 19/04/2011 16:54

Didn't someone say 34 weeks a while back? I'm so going home in 10 mins...I don't care if that's early!

NurseSunshine · 19/04/2011 17:39

Moomin great to hear from you! So pleased that Florence is doing well. Almost a month old! Wow!
Agree with everyone else, Florence won't notice whether you've done the dishes or not, but she will notice if she has a calm, rested mummy next to her :) Please don't feel guilty, you've been amazing, can't believe you've managed to express for all this time. How exciting that she's learning to breastfeed, what a clever little thing!

Barbie huge congratulations on your little girl. Kate's a lovely name, will it be short for Katherine? Have anti biotics for the uti so am sure I'm on the mend, thanks for asking :)

Crazy so sorry about your DH, you must be really worried. He'll be in good hands and after recovering I'm sure he won't even notice the loss. Thinking of you both :)

Jasmine are you kidding? You're having a boy, I bet he's well impressed by your gaseous triumphs and is taking notes! Just remember this in a few years time when you're telling him off for farting at the dinner table Grin

Motherof wow I bet that was scary. I hope your DH is doing everything so you can take it easy.

Sasa and Barbie I've just got some raspberry leaf tea. I read you could take 1 cup per day from 32 weeks building up to 3 cups at 34 weeks. Hope it helps!

That kick count thread scared the crap out of me. So horrible to think about :(

I hope everyone's enjoying the sunshine. I'm off to an NCT homebirth thing tonight, should be fun

sasamaxx · 19/04/2011 17:51

What is the 'kick count thread'?
I can't find it...

jasmine51 · 19/04/2011 17:58

Nurse you are quite right of course...I'll be telling him off for the next 18 years at least for farting..hypocrite? moi?

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 19/04/2011 18:48

found this interesting

petitech · 19/04/2011 19:15

I just had midwife appt and midwife thinks baby breech after spending the last 10 weeks in the perfect position :( She's not 100% sure as apparently it feels quite hard at both top and bottom. I hoping the baby just has buns of steals but have to wait another 2 weeks to potentially see if I have a scan to check the position. Fingers x'd!

knackered76 · 19/04/2011 20:10

Evening all!

Petitech Join the breech club, seeing as Sasa had the cheek to leave it Grin! But in all seriousness, there is time to turn. Friends keep telling me theirs didn't turn until 35 weeks and in my mind this baby has until 39 weeks to get the right way . . . leaves it just over 6 weeks to make the move! Sit up straight, get your arse in the air and bounce on a ball . . but not all at the same time Grin.

Moomin Lovely to hear from you and the wonderful news with Florence doing so well, and I have to say you as well :) Don't underestimate how well you are doing, you are amazing and you need to tell yourself that . . . failing that, come on here and we'll tell you instead Grin. The house can wait, no-one cares . . we just have a habit of thinking they do!

Crazy Sorry about dp :( Hope things have gone well today and they get him home to you as soon as possible. I think he should stick to snap or maybe tiddlywinks in future! Oh and if it makes you feel better I spent 10 minutes in the car the other day crying because dd has refused to go into her swimming lesson Grin!

Barbie Lovely news on your little girl! I had a growth scan the other day and was tempted to find out but decided against it as dh couldn't come and he didn't want to know . . . I am getting really impatient now though! Oh and the name is perfect :)

Nurse Haven't looked at the kick count thread as I don't want to scare myself and go all irrational again! I have the problem of having an anterior so don't feel the baby that much anyway and have already been in twice for monitoring due to reduced movements. I'm using the need to feel movements as a good excuse for eating ice cream Grin. If I haven't felt, or think I've felt, the baby move I sit/lie down and concentrate, usually I then feel them.

MoSP There's a desperate baby in there wanting to come out! Rest up (easier said then done) and keep that baby cooking for a little bit longer. A friend went into labour 8 weeks early and then didn't have the baby until after the due date!

8RD Loving the towel theory Grin. Maybe you could stop talking to your mum until after the birth Wink.

Enjoy your evenings!

jimper · 19/04/2011 20:37

Moog & Jasmine mine aren't hiccups - as I have felt those a lot and they are really obvious....I went for my final scan before flying home today and I totally forgot to ask - but all was well so I guess it can't be anything bad - just weird -I guess I am having a midnight party girl :)

sasamaxx · 19/04/2011 20:49

Petitech I thing that either the mw who palpated me on Friday, or the one today has mistaken buttocks for head. I think it's really easy to do and the only way to know for absolute sure is with a scan. Get bouncing on that ball anyway - I'm going to keep doing it to try to avoid OP anyway, and because I've now had a breech 'scare'. Might be worth looking into moxibustion too - that was on my plan if things didn't improve by 35-ish weeks.

Knackered lol - I'm hoping I've left the breech club, but not 100% sure.
Anyway - head down babies can suddenly decide to switch around - especially mine who don't engage until labour.

I still don't know what the kick counter thread is - am I just going to terrify myself if I find it?

petitech · 19/04/2011 21:03

Thanks everyone. What is moxibustion please and when you say bouncing on a ball do you mean on one of those swiss / birthing balls, is that supposed to help?

sasamaxx · 19/04/2011 21:41

Arrrgghhhhhh answer just disappeared!!!
Moxibustion is a fancy chinese herbalish/acupuncturish type treatment involving burning stuff beside your toes - can turn babies apparently.

Yes - the balls are good to avoid OP, are good for your back and also help move labour along by bouncing the head down to help open the cervix.
I think it is also supposed to encourage the baby to turn head down

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 19/04/2011 22:05

Right lets try this again. Fourth time lucky! (and sorry it's a bit long and still waffley)

I think I'm in the process of talking myself into wanting a home birth (which would mean talking DH into it too). I feel comfortable with a hospital birth because DH has a condition that could be passed to LO (though tests on me show it's not to likely) and they can test for it right away in hospital and start treatment should the worst happen. However like I say recent tests show it's unlikely.
Why I'm going off the hospital thing and thinking home birth is because my due date is a week and a half before my local hospital is due to transfer most of it's services (including maternity) to the big new shiney and clean hospital out of town (combining with another out of town hospital). I'm feeling more and more Hmm about having LO at the old hospital because a) a few weeks back there was a report in the paper about how an official spot inspection showed several wards to be filthy and then b) when I went for my anti-D jab last week I sat there for half an hour noticing how shabby and run down the place looked.

sasamaxx · 19/04/2011 22:16

I can understand your concerns - what a PITA.
I do want to know what hospital it is tho because I'm nosy - do you live in Glasgow?
The thing about the big shiny new hospital is that surely you could then get an ambulance which would be quite exciting and dramatic Grin

motherofsnortpigs · 19/04/2011 22:33

O confessions what a dilemma. You need to ask the right question about the hb i.e. would they be able to do the required blood test for you at home?

If the birth itself is low risk, then you are (imo - which is obviously skewed to avoiding hospital at all cost) just as well off, if not better, at home.

Definitely my bed time now :)

BPrincess · 19/04/2011 22:44

Jimper and Jasmine I posted about those movemements the other day, and someone suggested it can be baby resting on a nerve that then goes into spasm, like when you get a flicker in your eye. This is what mine feels like (I had thought perhaps hiccups, but it's faster and more gentle really) and it's usually right at the top of my right thigh or the bit near there. And often when I'm lying on my side in bed.

Oh, and hello everyone! So much to catch up on, again, so sorry about lack of individual replies. Glad to hear most of us are doing well. Quick hello to moomin, who is doing ACE! And is under strict instructions NOT to clean anything at all for the foreseeable.

I'm 35 weeks at the weekend and can hardly believe it! Just back from a waterbirth talk at the hospital, which has made me feel really positive. Will def request a room with pool. And all the rooms seemed really nice and well equipped (they even have music systems in them!), so almost found myself looking forward to labour...!

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 19/04/2011 22:47

Forth Valley Sasa. Falkirk and Stirling both moving to Larbet (already had my two 20 week scans there)

Mother if it weren't for this blood test I'd have no problem. Will have to ask at my next MW appt which is in about 3 weeks. No MW has bothered to ask me about a birth plan yet, so surely they'll bring it up then?! Why does everything come down to the last minute with me?

Milliemuffin · 19/04/2011 22:49

Confessions - I was booked in for a home birth with both my DC but ended up having both of them in hospital. Its easier to book yourself in for a home birth then just wait and see what happens.

I was so fixed on getting through each contraction with DC2 (DD) that looking back I was bouncing on my ball from 4pm to 9pm when we had to call for an ambulance as all community midwives were already out. We got to hospital at 9:43 and she was born at 9:50 so I wasn't even examined. Just stood by the bed and that was that! Fingers crossed for 3rd time lucky! I WILL give birth in my birthing pool!!!

You should maybe talk to your midwife though to find out if it's possible for them to do a test at home, if that'll help with your decision.

And even if you do have to transfer in at the last minute, the more time spent relaxing in your own home the better xxx

Anyone else REALLY swollen down below? I've had it for about 8 weeks now and today was really bad, I daren't show DP, bad enough that I've had to see it :( that's by far been the worse part of this pregnancy for me. I'm almost counting down the weeks to having normal bits again.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 19/04/2011 22:54

And Sasa it just occured to me. DS would be soo EnvyEnvyEnvy if I got to go in an ambulence Grin

Thanks Millie Think I'm going to talk to MW and DH and take it from there. Tis good to have feedback though. As for your question, I to am a bit swollen down below. I couldn't say how badly, but it's uncomfortable, so enough to be ruddy annoying

Okay, finally doing it. Goodnight.

DaisyFields · 19/04/2011 23:14

confessions, sounds like a good argument for a hb, i HATE not knowing exactly what is going to happen and when (I have already written a detailed plan for DP with diagrams and everything with what I want to happen on the big day - the diagrams are of bags, cars and locations, not labour pictures btw!) if you think you'd feel more secure and confident with a hb, you should go for it.

So pleased little Florence is doing so well Moomin and definitely agree that rest and time together is faaaaar more important than worrying about housework - you are doing amazingly.

The exam 7 days after due date debacle has been rolling along with no conclusion for weeks until today when my tutor got wind of the course team's plans and has stepped in saying it's comPletely unreasonable to expect me to be able to do it - what a beauty!

How did the op go crazy?

SIL's sister had a baby girl on Sunday - she's squishy and gorgeous. Really jealous and impatient now, 7 weeks to go.

Sasa am joining you in the leaving the breech club. I had a scan yesterday and she's head down ready to go - now just need to persuade her to stay there for the next 6/7 weeks! I know she only turned over the weekend though as the movements were particularly strange and strong and bump got very distorted. The heartburn has eased off too since she turned which is making sleeping a bit easier although I'm still having a gaviscon night-capGrin.

Super as someone else said I don't think they are concerned until 36 weeks and even then there's still time.

I also had to do my pre-admission for the hospital which has made me very scared. I now have a letter that I have to hand to the midwives when I go into labour. I also have to go for checks fortnightly now.

This is the thread I was referring to Count the Kicks. The stories are really heart wrenching but 8rd and any others who have been for monitoring because they were concerned have definitely done the right thing.

Joannezipan · 20/04/2011 08:05

The breech club is looking a bit lonely, and I brought all these Biscuits along too. :o I'm starting to think DC has wedged its self in. Every time it is assessed it has its feet up by its head! I hope it hasn't kicked its self in the face!
