DF just wanted to say how sorry I am for your sister x I'm sure you'll be a fab support to her. Life really is not fair sometimes.

Lavitabellissima · 11/11/2010 01:41

So try and do my birth sort before pumping again, my boobs are so sore as I'm doing it by hand as breast pump not arrived yet .

GotTo hospital at 4.50am, they hitched me up to a machine, and scanned to confirm my waters had gone for twin 1, and gave me a steroid injection to try and mature babies lungs but these would need 6 hours to work. Very quickly my contractions increased, and I was in pain. As you know I was told at 10 weeks that I'd be having a c section so hadn't really thought about the labouring malarky Smile ouch!
I asked for pain relief and was given some pills, didn't ask what they were Grin not long after it got very painful, intense period type cramps, Midwife said my contractions were very close together, and gave me gas and air, fabulous stuff. DP said it looked like a bong, and I was drugged up to the max. I've heard other people say it made them feel sick but I thought it was amazing!
I was examined at 9am and was already 4cm dilated, so they said that it was all happening rather fast, and I needed to be prepped for emergency c section. then I had to walk down the corridor to theatre, I asked if I could take "my friend" with me, midwife said they had it in theatre if I needed it, she lied! Whilst DP was getting scrubbed up, and I was being set up for.the.epidural, I had to bloody.breathe through the nasty.contractions, not fun, but you just get on with it. I was surprised at how calm.am I felt
C section all happened very fast and relief from the pain of contractions brilliant once epidural worked. I can't imagine not having pain relief, any of you not planning any are nutters very brave!
NextBit is all hazy, babies out quickly, DP.took photos, twins did brilliantly no need for neo natal equipment, and I had a cuddle.as I was stitched up.

Pumping and feeding time now, will give you my hospital story on next update Smile

Thanks for all the kind words, I've got lots to say to everyone after a week missed so will try and keep up.x Grin

MrsSnaplegs · 11/11/2010 06:10

df so sorry to hear about your sister she must be devastated!
lavita fab you are ok -looking forward to catching up when you can!!

chloesbaby · 11/11/2010 06:12

Thank you for your kind words ladies. I am feeling a lot better and really looking forward to stopping work now.

DF I sometimes wonder if anyone knows who I am, but it is probably paranoia! I think if you found the BF class a bit pointless you should say. After all, you are paying for the classes and they should provide appropriate info. If you say you were disappointed the class leader will probably want to change things for next time.
I honestly think NCT classes are most useful for partners because most women I would guess read everything there is to read within the first 10 weeks of pregnancy!

Lavita it sounds like you coped brilliantly and its great to hear the babies were so resiliant and healthy when born. Thinking of you pumping and feeding through the night and hope you are getting as much rest as possible.

chloesbaby · 11/11/2010 06:13

X post with MrsS

Good to know there is another early riser / insomniac out there!

93pjb · 11/11/2010 06:58

df so sorry for your sister, life is so unfair sometimes hope she and all the family are getting the support they need.

lavita sounds like you were amazing - hope you get some rest too!

emmaxmas · 11/11/2010 08:04

Morning all- revolting morning here- would like to be cozied up in bed but work calls! Lovely to read about your birth story Lavita- do hope the expressing is going okay.
DF very sorry about your sister- that's really sad, and as others have said, am sure you'll be a great support.

chloesbaby and miffster sorry about your scares.

I also had a bit of a scare yesterday as hadn't felt baby move all day and also my swelling was really bad. Went along to DAU and after quite a wait managed to get seen. All fine and baby started moving around heaps as soon as they put the things (can't remember what the word is- preggy brain) on my tummy- typical!

Have been told to put my feet above my heart to reduce swelling- easier said than done! Can't believe I'm working for antoher 5 weeks- seems like forever....... Righto, back to work. Have a good day everyone! Smile

notso · 11/11/2010 09:35

Morning feeling better than yesterday, had a good nights sleep I didn't wake up once or even move position and DS managed to sleep through too. 34 weeks today!

C&G I hope you are right about the braxton hicks speeding up labour, this is the most I have had and my other two labours were looong!

strix you are making me crave steak now and the butchers is closed on a Thurs!
When I did my food hygiene course they said rare steak was not a risk as no bacteria could actually get into the meat as it is one solid piece.

miffster and chloe sorry to hear about your scares, glad you are both ok.

DF sorry to hear about your sister Sad

emma hope you manage to get your feet up at some point. Sorry you are having to work, I'm so glad I took redundancy, would hate to be having to work at the moment.

lavita lovely story, I also am a gas and air fan though the first time I had it I was so 'stoned' I forgot to breathe in between contractions and ended up being really sick!
Good luck with the pumping and feeding, am in awe of anyone who attempts bfing twins or tandem feeding.

DH reminded me last night that I turn 30 in Dec, I had kind of forgotten it was a 'big' birthday.
I think I am going to pospone it though, it's a difficult enough time of year to organise thing for when not going to be 39 weeks pg!

CheeseandGherkins · 11/11/2010 10:03

Strix I saw the recipe too, I plan to steal it :o

Miffster might be worth asking if you can get it on prescrption, it's not cheap. So glad baby started moving again, they really like to scare us don't they? Must have been really scary for you. Thanks for the primark tip, sounds really good, will have to head in there.

MrsS I totally agree, sometimes things work differently for different people, you just have to do what's best for you :)

Chloe Glad things turned out well, what a shock! Must have been awful. Definitely take things easy and rest up, sounds like you need it. I adore the sound and sight of babies feeeding, they are so snuffly and sweet :o

93pjb I agree with you, if the rest is helping then definitely get as much as you can!

DF Lol at your class teacher reading comments on here :o So, so sorry to hear about your sister :( I've also lost babies and words can't describe. :(

Lavita lovely birth story :) Can't wait for my baby to arrive!!!

emma same here too, windy, rainy and freezing cold. Glad baby moved more once you got into the unit, I've had that happen to, they love to scare us.

notso I've had loads before each labour and all of mine have been fast, first was about 3 and a half hours, second about the same but 2 hours of those were pushing and my last one was an hour and ten mins. Also 34 weeks today, I wonder which one of us will have our baby first? :o I had my 30th, I was 32 last week, I don't feel any differently at all though.

I didn't sleep well at all last night, couldn't sleep until gone 1am and then had tightenings all night long along with lots of movements from baby. Feeling quite uncomfortable again now and also more tightenings, this had better mean a nice quick labour! Maybe wake up, couple of pushes and baby arrives :o ahh that would be amazing hehe.

I feel like she is bouncing on my cervix today and last night but still not real sure which way she's lying.

I'm planning on doing not much today, DD is going to a friend's house after school for dinner so I'll just have the two boys. Should eat some breakfast soon really.

notso · 11/11/2010 10:15

The race is on C&G Grin, I reckon you will win and despite all these early twinges and threats of premature labour and early induction, I will give birth to a 14lber at 43 weeks!
I keep getting sharp cervical pains at last check LO was head engaged 3/5 but I know they can float in and out, I thought LO was breech but she/he had feet near face in the scan so that explains low down kicking.

CheeseandGherkins · 11/11/2010 10:27

notso I think the same as you, I've been in and out a lot and having tightenings with pain etc but no doubt will go overdue! I've been getting those sharp pains too, not sure if it's head or feet kicking down though Confused or bent up like yours.

I'm watching more birth programmes this morning...

Strix · 11/11/2010 10:37

Oh no, DF. That is very sad for your sis. I have never lost one, so can only imagine the pain. Sad

Since reading yesterday's posts about non moving babies, I have been neurotically poking DS2 just to make shure he responds. So far he has. DD thinks he is going to be born with bruises all over. Smile

I went to Tesco Metro on my way home from the train last night and bought Finest sirloin steak, peppercorn sauce (which was not the best peppercorn sauce I ever had unfortunately), broccoli (for vit c), and made a baked potato. As I looked at my plate, I thought I felt like a 1950's house wife. It was yummy and I shall do the same again tonight. Smile

Also popped an iron and vit c pill this morning.

Oh, and this morning, I got on the train and some selfish teenage boy stepped in front of me and proceeded to take the last seat on the train. As I mumbled "you selfish twit", a lovely young lady sitting next to me stood up and offered me her seat. I sat there and contemplated walking over to him ans saying "You know it takes someone really special to step in front of pregnant woman and take the last seat available". But I figured he wouldn't care.. and I didn't really fancy getting up in order to tell him what I thought.

BOYS!!!! God, I hope mine don't act like that. (Strix sticks head in sand)

Chooster · 11/11/2010 10:58

Yikes Miffster and Chloe - glad the scares turned into nothing in the end. Ahh, the worry! I quite like the excitement of the last few weeks but the not knowing whats going on and when it will finally all kick of takes its toll after a while. I'm getting loads of BH and the last few nights they've woken me up - and I've been dreaming so much about my waters breaking... 37 weeks today Grin. Am still not massively convinced about what position he is in and dont see midwife again until 40 weeks (I dont think teh 38wk GP appt is going to be that informative!), but my friend is a student midwife so I'm going to ask her to have a little feel and see what she thinks.

Lavita - Lovely story so far - can't wait to read the next installment Grin. So is that 3 or 4 babies we have now? Is it just PJEN and Lavita - and maybe OWO soon... I dont think she's had the baby yet has she?

MrsSnaplegs - I with you on the DH thing... Mine has his own business which has been quite slow recently so he's done most of the housey stuff... All washing, ironing, tidying etc. And he can get quite arsey with me if I put things back in the wrong place or leave stuff out Blush. Its was fine while I was lorking long hours, but I've almost been off for 3 weeks now and I'm getting on his nerves Smile. But he starts his new real 9-5 job on Monday so I'll be free to put the iron in whatever cupboard I want Wink. PS, admire your view on benefits... Its a much better idea that those who need it get enough to make their lives as comfortable as possible when they need it, rather than pushing you to claim before you really have to. Its hard to make a personal stand like that but good on you for doing it...

DF - I really enjoyed my NCT but thats because I hadn't read anything or researched anything before DS1 was born - I was just keeping my head down and not really getting that involved. So it was great for me. With DS2 I was much more knowledgeable and although I went to the local NHS classes for seecond time mums, that was really only to meet people - I found the classes a bit boring... And I've not even bothered this time. I think you probably find that you may not quite fit in with it because you have done quite a bit of research and have formed your own views - and there is nothing wrong with that at all, but its hard when someone who is meant to be helping you is telling you things that dont gel with what you already think. I'd say you are in a much better position than others to be able to handle BF - And to be honest it can be quite tricky even if you've done it before so there is only so much they can teach you til your LO is here.

Right, think I'm going to head off and start wrapping presents Grin. I LOVE this time of year...

Chooster · 11/11/2010 11:00

Sorry DF - I'd missed about your sister... How awful for her. I think you mentioned this a while ago - Is your SIL pregnant as well? Hope your sis is managing OK.... it will so hard on her.

notso · 11/11/2010 11:11

C&G I just hope LO doesn't attempt to come out with feet near head, DS came out with his hand near his head in a superman pose! Might go and have a nose at home and health in a minGrin

strix enough steak talk please! I can't get it out of my head, and there is nothing even remotely meaty in the house, we are having cauliflower cheese for tea.

chooster I love wrapping presents but normally I am accompanied by copious amounts of Baileys, so perhaps mine will actually look good this year Grin

Strix · 11/11/2010 11:18

Sorry. Blush

notso · 11/11/2010 12:27

Grin am consoling myself with rice and tuna, it is not the same!

Just took my first evening primrose capsules tentatively and had a braxton hicks about three seconds later then got stupidly scared they had had an instantaneous effect!

CheeseandGherkins · 11/11/2010 13:29

Just had a bath and suddenly came over really sick and faint, could feel my heart racing too and really shaky. Got out and now still feeling really off and very faint. More tightenings now too, starting to feel a lot stronger than previously. Wonder what's going on.

laurenamium · 11/11/2010 13:29

Just scanned the thread...it moves too fast nowadays I cant keep up!

Miffster and chloe sorry about your scares!

I went to Midwife yesterday and Im 4/5ths engaged :-o, two weeks ago she wasnt even head down!

laurenamium · 11/11/2010 13:31

x post c&g arrrgh thats scary! is there anyone there with you? Maybe go for a lie down or ring MW? You dont want to be fainting!

CheeseandGherkins · 11/11/2010 13:48

Yes dh is here thankfully. Just going to rest until it's time to get the dcs from school and take it easy I think.

Chooster · 11/11/2010 14:23

Was the bath quite hot C&G? I often (when not PG) get really light headed and get that shaky / heart racing thing going on too when I'm in a bath or just getting out a bath ... And my vision starts blacking out. I'm not really sure what causes it, must be some kind of drop in blood pressure. I'd always assumed it was because my bath was too hot... I'm not really a bath person now, too many near misses including one where I actaully passed out hit my head on the side of the bath. I was fine, but now I shower [smile). Seriously though, hope you are doing OK. A nice quiet lie down will do the trick Smile.

notso - I had some irish cream chocolates to much while wrapping - not quite the same but yummy Smile. They were meant to be a xmas pressie though....

Chooster · 11/11/2010 14:24

Oops, munch! Must take more time over typing.

CheeseandGherkins · 11/11/2010 14:30

Chooster thanks, it was fairly hot but not too hot, wasn't steaming or anything! I've had some water and just been sitting down on the sofa resting and am feeling a little better now. Hopefully just nothing and one of those things!

japhrimel · 11/11/2010 14:33

C&G - sounds like low bp from the bath, but could be linked to something starting! Try eating and drinking something and then lying down.

laurenamium - doesn't 4/5 engaged mean that they can feel 4/5 of the head above the pelvis? So it's 1/5 below the pelvis. I'm pretty sure the measure of how much engaged you are is a count down from 5/5 to 0/5.

chooster & notso - yep Christmas wrapping isn't nearly as much fun stone cold sober! I usually have mulled wine on the go for it - Christmas tunes and cranberry juice isn't quite the same! I must finish mine this week. Think I've got all the pressies now.

DF - sorry about your sister. If she hasn't already found them, I found the Miscarriage Association leaflets helpful. And being sent flowers/chocolates/etc - but I can imagine some people wouldn't.
