...and we're gliding towards the third trimester, draped in suitably flowing attire.

Sorry, still skimming... They cannot force you onto maternity leave until 36 weeks. And, even then, it will have to be a pregnancy related ailment. So, if you are ill with the flu virus which is going round the office at 37 weeks, that is not cause to force you onto maternity leave.

It makes me really mad when people start telling me when I should or shouldn't be off. I will be the judge of that, thank you very much. I only get 6 weeks of paid leave, and I want it AFTER I have a baby you moron.

Ok, sorry, I 've come to this topic with a bit of baggage. Blush

notso · 27/09/2010 13:00

Afternoon all,
Popped in for a bit of a whinge sorry, had a crap weekend with pain in my hip and pelvis, couldn't walk on Saturday and sickness has started back up after every meal which isn't bad but trying to hobble to the loo in time is a problem.
We were supposed to be treating DD this weekend as she has been made Head Girl and instead we were stuck in the house Sad
DH is most worried and thinks I should have a C-Section rather than risk injury to my hip through vaginal birth, which is probably my worst case senario I really don't want a section unless it's life or death, and now I feel he is going to be unsupportive of me.

WRT balls is there a difference between birth and exercise balls apart from price?

Sorry for the self indulgent moaning, hope everyone else is ok and will try and have a proper catch up later on.

Chooster · 27/09/2010 13:01

Hope you appt goes well C&G - you dont come across as a hypercondriac at all! You've had a lot to contend with this pregnancy and as you've already got DC, you obviously know when something is not quite right. Hope the leaking stops soon... Or at least you get some re-assurance about what it is.

DF - Oooh, thanks for the lansinoh tip - I LOVED that stuff last time, it was a saviour when it came to sore nips...

MrsSnaplegs - I'll try that break recipe... Sounds lovely and not too tricky. I know my DH will mock me about it though... he always laughs at me when I try to do baking like this... I dont think he's ever eaten one of the cakes me and the kids have eaten. Warm, fresh from the oven break may sway him though!

Strix - I've not had it personally, but there is a place up here that has a special pregnancy table with a big hole in the middle so you can lie on your front with your bump popping down! And then they give you a massage - Sounds fab - even the chance to lie on my front would be lovely! Friends say it ace but I've never got my arse in gear to book one.

Chooster · 27/09/2010 13:07

Ooops sorry - meant bread!!! I need to take more care over my posts whenit comes to spelling...

Sorry you are not feeling that great notso. Hopefully DH will support whatever choice you make about the birth. I think my DH seems to think that a cesarean is the easy option Hmm

japhrimel · 27/09/2010 13:08

CheeseandGherkins - unfortunately my MW is on holiday! I've booked to see my GP first thing tomorrow as I checked the bloods request form I've got and Liver Function tests aren't included in the standard 28 weeks tests. I'll have the car tomorrow so can go and get bloods done straight after the GP appointment.

And yes, I'm still quite itchy, but no where near as bad as last night. However, I checked the OC Support site and apparently the itching can be intermittent and is often worst at night so I'm concerned that this could be what's up. There go my HWB plans if so Sad though I'll be far more concerned about the baby than my birth plan!

notso - what's up with your hip?

I think birth balls are just good exercise balls with extra anti-puncture measures, but then an inflated pricae tag for being a "maternity" item. Hmm

PJen · 27/09/2010 13:39

I will never ever be able to catch up with all the posts I have missed!!! I really hope all are doing well... Just saw DF's new pic and wanted to say that I love your gorgeous bump! Mine is as big now too... same size as yours... I have been too busy to take pix, which I know is bad as later I can't remember how big I was at this stage...

Work is manic. Running around like a headless chicken... Really wish I could fastforward this last 8-10 weeks and meet the princess... I am dying to get to know her :)

wildlilac · 27/09/2010 14:01

:) Afternoon...'nuf lurking, time to join in!

Miffster · 27/09/2010 14:04

Japhrimel I would definitely keep up the pressure about OC, itching in hands and feet needs to be taken seriously, all the books say that, and notso, that sounds very annoying, hope you get the birth you want and the support for it, and C&G good luck with your appointment, I don't think you shound like a hypochondriac at all, I don't think any of us do, we are all just trying to do the right thing.

It feels like we are all starting to crumble a bit as we go into the final furlong! I had such a lovely second trimester, bouncing with energy and health and joie de vivre. How times change. Now the ache in my back is constant and really annoying me, and I feel a bit faint and hot all the time and generally fed up, and OMG, 10 more weeks is SUCH a bloody long time.

Had scan on Sat, he is 2.8lbs, breech and right over my right hip. Hoping the ball helps reposition him as well as saves my sacrum.

chunter, chunter, whinge, whinge

japhrimel · 27/09/2010 14:27

Miffster - I'm printing out OC Support and NHS info on OC to take to my GP tomorrow and will make sure I leave with the right bloods requests.

Feeling really sorry for myself today, absolutely exhausted and itchy, and getting worried. No way this itching is still the codeine after 16 hours! Sad

Miffster · 27/09/2010 14:32

Have you got a midwife healp line you could call japhrimel? They might be able to talk to a consultant/registrar there and then and have you come in to the hospital pregnancy unit for immediate tests? Might be quicker than the GP?

OP posts:
japhrimel · 27/09/2010 14:45

I could call the hospital, but from what I've read, it isn't an immediate emergency even if it is OC. So I think I'll wait to see the GP in the morning, especially as I can't get to the hospital today without making DH leave work to drive home, pick me up and then drive back to Reading.

janehendy · 27/09/2010 15:44

Lol, first time reading through this thread... flexing my flanjo just cracked me up! Nearly joined in on the trickling!

Anyone here on their second wee one? I've got one 16 months with this one due in December and needless to say and pretty much kacking myself at this stage.

Hey ho... women have done much harder things through the ages than cope with a few tears and tantrums (more than likely from the hubby!)

Wholelottalove · 27/09/2010 16:43

OMG, I went to the physio today for my SPD/PGP and I feel TONS better. She did a load of manual manipulation of my pelvis - basically one side was totally locked which was causing all the pain on the other side. It was going up my back too. She said she was surprised I had the level of functionality I did considering what it was like. I am still sore, but different type pain IYSWIM and she warned me it's going to take a few days to settle down.

For anyone anywhere near the Tewkesbury area with SPD, please consider travelling to see this physio, she is phenomenal. She is an expert in the condition and has spoken on Radio 4 about it etc. She has people who have suffered for years come from all over the country and stay with her so she can sort them out. If you're nowhere near Gloucestershire, phone the Pelvic Partnership to see if anyone else is nearer you.

I'll let you know how it goes as it settles over next few days but so far that is the best £50 I've ever spent.

MrsS thank you for bread recipe! My bread turned out ok, but a bit heavy and also it weirdly didn't smell of much - was expecting that gorgeous bread baking smell to waft through the house. Have no idea why. I used Allinson flour and dried yeast.

Japhrimel hope you get the itching sorted, sounds worrying. I got a random call at about 33 weeks last time saying a blood test had come back with something wrong and to come up the hospital. Hoofed it up there crapping myself to be told I had OC. They just gave me a leaflet and said they'd need to induce early. Then a day or so later another test came back saying I was fine. Random.

Oh and about massages there are people who specialise in pregnancy/antenatal and will visit your house. There's two in my area and if I could afford it, I'd have a massage a week. They bring loads of pillows and stuff to make you comfy on your side.

Anyone who wants the details of the SPD physio, let me know.

CheeseandGherkins · 27/09/2010 17:17

My appointment went ok this afternoon, didn't need a swab as I had one a couple of weeks ago when I went into the MFAU and it came back clear. I'm now measuring 33 weeks though and I'm only 27....she said it was ok to keep the scan date I have in 3 weeks to check for the echo genic bowel but I just had a phone call to say I've been booked in for a scan this Thursday at the MFAU to check the size so I guess they changed their minds! I also have the GTT on Friday. Everything else was fine and she did a speculum to check for fluid and cervix and that was closed and all fine so I'm really relieved!

No wonder I feel like I can't breathe though, I knew my bump looked huge!! She said it could be the baby is big due to diabetes or lots of fluid but the fluid levels were normal at 22 weeks so we'll have to see. Oh she thought the baby was head down but I thought she felt in the same position from all the kicks so maybe the midwife last week was wrong?

japhrimel Hope you get the blood tests sorted, are you sure going to the hospital wouldn't be better as they'd come back a lot faster?

jane welcome, this is my fourth baby :)

Wholelotta glad the physio helped.

japhrimel · 27/09/2010 18:14

C&G - I'm going to ask the GP tomorrow about going to hospital as opposed to getting blood tests done locally as normal. My appointment is early tomorrow, so there'd be time to get to the hospital tomorrow if needed.

CheeseandGherkins · 27/09/2010 18:59

japhrimel glad to hear that, let us know how you get on. Fingers crossed all is OK.

Strix · 27/09/2010 19:44

Oh, a table with a big whole. I need one of those! And pregnancy massage in my home would be soooo fab. Back here on Earth...

Sorry to read people are having a tough time. I am really looking forward to getting this baby out of my belly. It's big and heavy and uncomfortable. I'm fed up with not being able to bend over... and on and on... but also I am really starting to get excited to meet my boy before Christmas. Will be lovely to have him here on Christmas. (when DS3 and I will be busy binding and unable to contribute to any of the work for Christmas festivities... what a pity) Smile

laurenamium · 27/09/2010 23:52

hi Jane

CherylAnnTweedy · 28/09/2010 06:00

Hi all, any chance of an update?

Laptops finally gone, well no that's a lie, I've had enough of buying laptop chargers just for them to break again a few months/weeks later so am using the desktop as ds1s laptop is just waaaay too slow! Hate desktops, find them so awkward to use.

Me...chest pain etc has subsided, I was feeling really weird too, which dp said I'd been complaining about for a few days. Very nearly went up to a&e the other day wiht the chest pain - gp put me back on becotide (or whatever they call it now) a few months ago and have been seeing asthma nurse, blimey how things have changed in 9 years! - but it went off. Felt weird for the rest of hte day, following morning chest pain was back, and the weird feeling still coming and going. Did a bit of research into ferrous fumerate, anti-d & codeine (pains & weirdness started when I had/started all of those) and have since stopped the codeine. Gradually feeling much better, very slight chest pain & weirdness on waking, but that's it. So need another pain killer other than codeine.

I was talking to a mum at school yesterday, she had a HB with her 3rd (her DHs 7th) and I'm so glad that's what I want. She said they both agreed it was the best birth of them all. She had 3 mw's with her throughout, they send a taxi if you need more g&a & they clear everything up afterwards & take it all away. Really happy & hope baby doesn't stay inside too long! Although I am feeling so unprepared!

Hope everyone is ok, looking forward to an update, sorry to be lazy, I don't like desktops and there's not the space to get my ball in (I've tried it!) so can't get comfy!

CherylAnnTweedy · 28/09/2010 06:01

Oh, forgot to ask...what do you wear for a physion appt? I only have dresses, will that be suitable? Confused

CherylAnnTweedy · 28/09/2010 07:26

Managed to have a bit of a skim through.

Japh - hope gp appt goes well tomorrow.

C&G - can't wait to see your wedding pics, I've found hospital measurements, feelings etc are so different from the cmw. My hospital appt the other day she measured me at 27 (I knew she'd measured me wrong) and then the following day cmw measured me at 30. Plus mw in hospital couldn't actually feel baby at all, whereas comm mw have a lot of probs with finding heartbeat as it's a little wriggler but can tell me exactly what part of baby she is feeling.

Lauren - hope you can get something sorted re work

MrsSL - your HB plan sounds pretty good to me, I hadn't really thought about what would happen with boys when I am in labour, but am now worrying about that & what will happen to them if I need to transfer to hospital. Parents live in Gosport so a good half hour drive at the best of times, and if my dad is at work, then it'll take my mum a couple of hours to get here. Fingers crossed things happen either when they are at school or at night and I don't need to transfer. Hmm Wishful thinking or what?!

I think it's time top get them breakfast, they've been hell for a couple of weeks, ds1 has gone backwards so much since going back to school, he's turned into a violent bully. Sad Seeing school nurse this week as gp won't refer him for counselling.

CheeseandGherkins · 28/09/2010 08:24

Strix I feel the same already too, I'll try and get some more pics up soon but I'm far bigger now than I was with my others near the end and I'm only 27 weeks. I'm really looking forward to Christmas, I love it :o

Cheryl I'll get some up asap, think we're buying the cd of them all so I'll be able to upload them. I've been measuring bigger for a little while now and I've noticed it myself, my bump is quite large, which looks more as I'm only 5ft 3.

Having so many kicks this morning, I'm quite uncomfortable and the kicks/punches on my hips are really painful. Miserable weather today, I hate it when the mornings are like this. Kids all ready for school now and eaten, just waiting for time to leave.

Miffster · 28/09/2010 10:51

Morning all,
I'm getting heaps of kicks as well, have a real thing about fresh OJ and it seems to send baba into a sugar frenzy!

Back pain is getting worse and worse, it's my right sacral area so got a last minute appt with a male GP at the practice, hope that he is on the ball with pg related stuff, basically I want to know if I can get to see a physio to get exercises/support belt/massage tips and also about painkillers, though I'm really reluctant to take them.

Having lower back pain won't affect my chances of having a HB will it?

OP posts:
maxpower · 28/09/2010 13:07

welcome jane

baby's wriggled itself under my ribs on the right hand side which I'm finding really uncomfortable today. had a crap night's sleep too and DH has finished nights so will have to share a bed again this evening - only good thing is he'll likely to let me have a lie in in the morning

miffster my friend has umpteen medical probs including really severe asthma and arthritis affecting her neck and back and she had a successful HB 3 years ago.

WLL gald to hear your massage was so lovely, I've always been a bit nervous about having a massage, although I like the idea IYSWIM

CheeseandGherkins · 28/09/2010 14:47

miffster I wouldn't have thought it would affect your HB chances but I guess that would depend on how much pain your in and consequently how much movement you had? Not sure really as that would no doubt affect a hospital birth as well. Hope you find something that helps though, bad pain is awful.

maxpower I've been experiencing the under the rib pain too, and kicks in hips, not nice.

I'm feeling so very tired today, even though I slept OK last night and managed a nap this morning, so drained.
