My Step Brother and his wife had a baby boy last night. Since he was born in the States his birthday will be yesterday but it was after midnight here so we're going to give him 2 birthdays.

He arrived 4 weeks early as his mummy had pre-eclampsia, poor thing, but he was 8lbs, so if he'd gone full term he wouldv'e been huge.

His name is Sean.

I need ideas for a pressie, something small as I'm chipping in for a big family present for his christening too. I thought about a small Taggies blanket, but I think she might have bought one already.

What was the most useful present your dc received?

A friend kindly bought me a load of plain white, 100% cotton, Petit Bateau underwear starting at 6 months and going through to 2 yrs (the all-in-one vests with poppers underneath) some with short sleeves and some with long. They are quite expensive to buy and although it seemed like a very mundance sort of present I really, really appreciated it as they washed really well and I used them again and again and again!

You can never have enough under garments ...

mundance ?? what's that??

sorry - meant to say - mundane

Oh and a really nice plain (silver?) or tasteful wooden photograph frame is always good. Once the paper comes along, you have loads of really new precious snaps and no time to shop ....

Countingthegreyhairs · 30/03/2008 16:37

Oh lordy, I'm finally losing it (and not a drop has touched my lips today)

meant to say ....baby ... not paper ... obviously .... .... crawling away now ....

Snort at Counting

I bought a good friend's baby a Tiffany money box - they're not heinously expensive, about 50 quid, and the parents told me they have got in the habit of emptying their pocket change into it when they put her to bed and banking it every time the money box fills up. She should have quite a little nest egg when she's 18.

I now buy expectant/new mothers a tommee tipee mug, little storage pots, melamine crockery, feeding spoons and bibs - practical, useful things that you will use but not immediately!

Right, don't think anyone's suggested this, but as you mention that she's hot on breastfeeding, how about a breastfeeding necklace. I didn't have one with dd, but really wish I had, so will have to drop hints before I give birth to this one!
There are some lovely designs available, and it will be small and light enough to post, as well as showing that you have thought about something specific to her intentions, rather than generic presents.

My fave presents were for myself (how selfish!) An insulated mug cos you never finish a cuppa again while it's hot! and a bag of sweaty moldy gooey cheese that I had missed so much whilst pregnant! YUM.

I know this is a useless suggestion for sending gift to US, but thought I'd still share it!
