Wills gave birth to a beautiful little girl, Charlotte Louise, at 23:55 yesterday.

Baby weighted 6lb 1oz. Mum weighed a bit more although I'm too much of a gentleman to disclose the actual amount.

Both are doing fine, and no doubt Wills will be on to provide the full details later.

Doting Dad.

Wow - it is wonderful to get all these messages and this thread will be printed out and kept with Charlotte's memories box.

Well Charlotte's arrival was most unexpected. The morning had been spent shopping for food from M&S and Tescos for friends that were due to come and stay with us for the weekend. In fact when I phoned the midwives to tell them about my pain I was at odds to assure them that this couldn't possibly be labour as I was going to be late. The midwives got a good laugh at that one. The problem was that I went straight into contractions every minute for 20 minutes and then a 10/15 minute break. So nothing was regular and I was certain it was just particularly painful Braxton Hicks . So for those that want the gory story - read on, but for those that don't - skip the end of this paragraph. Shortly after arriving I felt my waters break but instead of being clear I was suddenly covered in blood. Things got scarey at this point but luckily my consultant arrived and decided it was a hind water break and to leave me to continue. They discussed breaking my waters from the front as Lotty's head was still not fully engaged but the the consultant knew that I wanted little intervention and therefore it was decided to leave me to it. So it took me a further 4 hours to go from 3cm to 4 at which point they decided to give me a hand. They warned me I might want an epidural and I foolishly said - no its ok I'll keep going... Within 5 minutes I'd demanded an epdiural and although they sited it in the end it was pointless as I went from 4 to 10 in the space of 40 minutes. Lotty was out in a further 3 minutes with the aid of ventouse (her heart rate slowed dramatically) and then the cause of my problems came out - an enormous blood clot (1 litre) followed by two smaller ones and then finally the placenta which turned out to have abrubted and broken down. I was told that that explained why I was contracting every minute. It seems that the body knows what to do when its in trouble - probably sounds really funny but its reasuring to know that my body was doing its best to protect me and Lotty. I had to have a transfusion and got out of hospital late last night. Still very anaemic and prone to fainting and the less said about the awful stitches the better.

But you know all said and done I wouldn't change anything. I'm completely and utterly bowled over by the arrival of my second daughter. I had worried (because basically I'm very good at worrying) that I wouldn't be able to love two children but you just do! With dd1 (loved typingg that!) I was so scared of her but now with the pair of them its so wonderful. Despite not being well I'm floating on air, totally wrapped up in both my daughters and enjoying them immensley. Its so different this time round. I don't feel scared just sore and happy. I feel almost drunk with contentment - gosh gonna get weepy in a mo and I haven't had 3rd day grizzle yet.... Anyway just wanted to tell you all how happy I am.

Katherine - opps - sorryyyyy - really didn't think it would be this way round - just shows how much you really can never tell. Hoping that you don't have long to go now.

Wills, just read your post with tears in my eyes (soppy pregnant woman alert!), very reassuring about your body knows what it's doing etc, glad you're both home and feeling on cloud nine.
