Her 18 month old DD drowned in the bath yesterday after she left her alone for a few moments. God knows how that poor woman is every going to pick herself up from this. Can't begin to imagine her pain

Pancakeflipper · 30/04/2010 18:19

How horrible.
My heart goes out to her. How hard it will be for her every second of her life. Hope she has a strong family around her.

Earlier this week OH was in charge of bathtime. I was in one of the boys room tidying when I heard the backdoor open. OH had left my 5yr old and 18 month old in the bath to get something out of his car. I was furious. He thought I was ridiculous. I am sure I read somewhere it takes 14 seconds for a toddler to drown ( is that right?).

meltedmarsbars · 30/04/2010 18:20

How awful

memoo · 30/04/2010 18:29

How does anyone cope with the loss of a child I don't know! It must be the worse pain possible, but in such dreadful circumstances too.

I can't can't the thought of her out of my head, walking back to the bathroom and that moment when she must have realised her baby was gone.

It was her first child too so she doesn't even have any other dc to keep her going.

a terrible, heart rending tragedy

thinking of you too xxxx

SamanthaFox · 30/04/2010 18:34

oh jesus

I'm so sorry

It could be any of us, it is so, so easy to be distracted and I know I have taken similar risks, just been luckier.

Poor woman. She is not to blame.

StealthPolarBear · 30/04/2010 18:36

that's awful poor family
hope you are ok, bet it's hit you hard

GFatemybaby · 30/04/2010 18:37

I nearly vomited when I read the OP's post. That is just awful. It's a parent's worst nightmare isn't it, as her whole life will be plagued with 'what if...'

The worst part is that it was preventable.

Poor family.

SamanthaFox · 30/04/2010 18:44

Babies do not always survive to childhood; children do not always survive to adulthood. Some are tragically lost along the way.

I find that this is the only way I am able to comprehend the utter sadness of these events, by thinking of it as a continuum.

But saying that doesn't help the woman who has lost her darling child. It merely affords me, us, a sense of detachment

yes, how do you find peace when you cannot go back and change the course of events.

Dear God.

memoo · 30/04/2010 18:50

I've not stopped sobbing all day! and haven't let go of my own baby. Don't even really know her that well either, just to have a quick chat to in passing.

Her daughter was the most beautiful little cherub! lots of red curls.

Oh Memoo

this is heartbreaking.

GFatemybaby · 30/04/2010 18:53

And the thing is, I bet we've all done it - I know have - just to nip out and get towels or something.
