My dad died

His melanoma was so aggressive. I saw him on Sunday 20th July, the day before we were due to go to Greece on holiday. He was very ill, not eating, sick, covered in black patches on his head. My brother and sister were there with me. We insisted he get the doctor to see him, who came out that night. Dad was adamant that I take the kids on holiday and was angry when I said I didn't want to go. rang mum on Monday - he was comfortable - the doc had given him anti-sickness injection and he wasn't throwing up every 5 mins. But when we were away, he was taken to St James' in Leeds. He deteriorated so quickly. Was on morphine for last 7 days. We had a phone call Monday afternoon, from my sister, to get back asap. Managed to get flight back to Gatwick Tuesday pm, but brother rang back later that day. Dad died at 830pm Monday night.
Saddest journey of my life back from holiday.
My dad was a wonderful, lovely kind man and did not deserve to die from this horrible disease in 4 short months.

I went to see him today in the chapel of rest. So glad I did. His funeral is next Thursday. We are scattering his ashes in a lovely forest close to home.

I will miss you dad. xx

I am so sorry for your loss.

You might not have been there when he died but it sounds like it isn't what he wanted. He wanted you and the children to have a holiday. What a lovely man.

Thank you all so much for your messages. Mum and me, my brother and sister spoke with the minister who will conduct the service on Thursday. We took out a box of old photos and shared happy memories of my dad. We had a sad, but lovely morning remembering him.
My niece is doing a reading, and my sister is reading a verse I wrote for mum and dad's Golden Wedding anniversary.

It still feels surreal.

Gingerbear

Just wanted to send my love and thoughts to you. My dad died in May - 3 weeks after the birth of my ds.

I share the sadness that you have right now.

Much love, MMx

I'm so sorry Gingerbear. It's such an unfair and cruel thing.

Take the best care of yourself and your family.

The funeral was today. It was heart- breaking, but the minister gave a lovely service, and my niece was so brave when she read some words about her grandad. The crematorium was full. I did not realise dad had so many friends.
We raised £560 for the hospice, which made mum so happy. She is staying with my brother tonight, even though she has been so strong in the last week, she needed company after today.

DD stayed with Yorkiegirl and her DDs today. I thank her from the bottom of my heart.

We are taking each day at a time. I pray my mum will be ok.

thank you all for your messages.
