My DP has just died

He was away diving and I got a phone call this morning to tell me he died. I've had to tell his sister, I don't know what to do with myself. He's half the world away from me and I can't do anything.

talk to the others, OP, his other loved ones. how you can proceed together supporting each other. You aren't alone. x

You are on the saddest and long journey. I do hope you have friends were you are to just be with you x

Jewelanemone · 21/03/2023 13:04

I'm so very sorry for your loss.

I know this is probably not on your mind right now, but if your DP had DAN diving insurance, it covers repatriation.

redastherose · 25/03/2023 17:26

Thanks @Jewelanemone he did have DAN insurance so I hope that will cover it, still waiting on the results of the post mortem, everything is taking so long.

The time between death and a funeral is very hard, you are separated from him and that must be tough. A hug to you x

Sorry for your loss

So so sorry for your loss.

I'm assuming it was during the dive as you are referring to his DAN insurance or did he use that as his general travel insurance too?

Any idea how long it will take to repatriate him? Was he with friends or had he travelled alone?

He had general insurance as well as the DAN policy, apparently the general insurance will deal with things and the DAN policy will step in if there is any issues.

He was with his dive buddies so he wasn't alone, they've been diving together for almost 20 years, all very experienced.

They'd had a great time apparently, so at least he had a lovely last few days.

That is at least a little.comfort, that he was having a great time with old, good friends. They must be so shocked too. X

I am so sorry. My DH died away from home, though not in another country, after a day spent doing something he loved, and it is good to know that his last day was happy and he enjoyed it. You have so many added complications, having to deal with his family and the bureaucracy of another country.

if you are in the Uk and under the age of 51, I really recommend joining WAY Widowed and Young, it’s a charity to support people widowed at an earlier age (you don’t have to have been married). It has been an amazing support in the worst of times.

Unfortunately I'm 52 so don't qualify for this group, I might try and find another group when I can face it.

Still waiting for repatriation.

Way-Up is a group for anyone who has lost a partner, it is a supportive place if you ever feel inclined to join.

I lost my DH last week, and I feel totally lost. Im poleaxed.

I'm very restricted with mobility etc, so will need online support and somewhere to just talk.

I did look at that group, after reading your comment, but they seem to want a huge amount of personal information (that they can check).

Some of it will be visible on the forum itself, and I'm really hesitant about giving RL details on the internet.

I'm worried about scammers, trolls etc as they show real life name and address.

Does anyone know if this site is safe?

Thanks.

@Zebedee55 sorry for your loss - yes it's safe. Tbh I preferred the security checks as stops nasty people out there.

Yes, thanks. I did take the chance, and, as you say, it does stop the chancers.

Its nice to have a supportive place to unload, but I have also kept up other sites, where I can just be "me" and not just a shell shocked widow - if that makes sense.

Condolences to all those who have suffered a loss - it's brutal.💐
