Anyone bled heavily in early pregnancy & still remained pregnant?

I suppose I already know the answer to this one really but just wanted to find out what other people's experiences were?

I would be 5 weeks pregnant now (ie. 3 weeks since conception) and I've had 2 positive pregnancy tests (1st was so faint that I repeated it). But Thursday night had blood stained discharge, which has turned into pretty heavy bleeding and stomach cramps too. Really I suppose I know that I'm miscarrying - I don't suppose you can bleed that heavily and keep a pregnancy.

I wondered about doing another pregnancy test at some point so that I knew for certain but I wondered how long you would have to wait after a miscarraige before a pregnancy test is negative?
Does anyone know?

Thanks everyone for the sympathy and hugs, it does help and, as people have said, the weekend will be good timing really. We usually have a couple of weekends a year away on our own and normally rush around all weekend like mad things, but the weather forecast is bad and maybe that's just as well as it might force us to stay in the hotel a fair bit just relaxing and being together. Will give me time to get my head round this and time for lots of hugs I hope, which is what I need.

I'm really sorry to hear your news, hopefully this weekend will give you and your dh time to reflect and support each other.

In relation to the level of bleeding that you've had, my EPU suggested after I m/ced that I keep an eye on my temperature. If it goes above 37.5 and doesn't decrease after an hour and a cool bath then contact your doctors/hospital because it might be a sign of an infection.

Make sure you get loads of TLC

distracted, how was your weekend away?

Distracted · 03/12/2003 21:24

The weekend away was really nice, had lots of time to relax and talk/be together and I do feel better about things this week. Managing not to think about it too much. Bleeding stopped too, which helps (had been very light but did actually continue until last Saturday).

Thanks everyone again for all the support and excellent advice. I don't know what I'd do without mumsnet.
