How long in the Tripp Trapp (or similar...)

Hello....has anyone else used the tripp trap or similar 'grow with you' high chair? What age did your DC stop using it?

The instructions say that you can use then until adulthood, but I am assuming a lot of people don't as I see so many for say on ebay!

With DC2 getting to the stage where he will soon be at the table I was wondering whether to get another one or not...

I was planning to keep them and turn them into chairs as our dining chairs were a treat and I don't think I will be able to buy any more than our 4 chairs! TIA for your thoughts.....

ds still uses his and he is 7.5yrs

We have three of them. DS1 is 4 and uses his now as a normal chair (just a seat without footrest). Various adults have sat on it too. Twins age 2 use theirs without baby seat but still with footrest to help them climb on. DD esp is still v small so good to have a taller chair so she can reach the table without having to have an actual highchair sitting there.

savoycabbage · 28/05/2010 13:39

My dd is 6.5 and still uses hers. We (the adults I mean) sit on them all the time. If I want to sit at the place at the table where there is a tripp trapp I wouldn't think about moving it and getting anothechair.

purpleturtle · 28/05/2010 13:40

DS2 is approaching 4 and will be using his for the foreseeable future. We have 4 chairs with our dining table, and he is our 3rd DC, so the Tripp Trapp is here to stay. Much as you outlined, really.

flowerybeanbag · 28/05/2010 13:43

DS1 is 3 and he's recently moved on to a 'normal' chair so that 6mo DS2 can have the tripp trapp. We weren't about to fork out for another one and we don't have the space anyway with the 'normal' chairs also round the table.

But otherwise he'd still be in it.

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 28/05/2010 13:45

We've had three of these since DS1 (now 15) was about three.
Just given away the last two now DS2 is 9 - that's about 11 years we had them for.
I agree, you don't see them in houses when DCs are older - maybe that's because they start at the baby stage.
We've had comments from kids like: 'why's X got a baby chair? My little brother's got one of those - never bothered any of mine, but some kids might be reluctant to keep them once they feel 'big'.

franke · 28/05/2010 13:49

I'm planning on using ours as desk chairs once the dc are big enough to sit on normal chairs at the dining table. dd is still using hers at 7.5, but probably not for much longer. I find them very comfortable actually.

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 28/05/2010 13:54

Yes, we used ours as desk chairs once the DCs realised they could have swivelly chairs in their bedrooms!

Hulababy · 28/05/2010 13:56

DD got her TT at 5 mobnths. She is now 8y and it still gets used as a chair very often. She sits in it at meal times when weeat in the kitchen and several visiig children have used it.

Livingbytheriver · 28/05/2010 14:07

Thank you for all of your reply's, that is really useful!

I think I will start looking about for another one, at least I don't need to buy the baby part again! Using them as desk chairs extends the use a bit too.

I meant we used ours as desk chairs until the DCs realised they could have swivel chairs!

My DC are 3 and 7 and still use theirs - DS no longer has a footrest on. We did consider passing DS's down when DD arrived, but he was still using it and was not quite tall enough to eat comfortably on a normal chair.

Livingbytheriver · 28/05/2010 20:20

I think DD will be pleased that her LB is not going to nick her chair, I think she would extreemy cross, she loves it!

yes thats what we did, wall is a bit battered though!!

LIZS · 29/05/2010 11:02

dd uses hers at age almost 9 at the dining table.

powerkitty · 02/06/2010 22:19

My children are 9, 8 and 6 - they all still use their Tripp Trapp's and we also have two set up as adult chairs.

IlanaK · 02/06/2010 22:21

I have 3 of them and my oldest ds is almost 9. I have no plans to stop using them. When they are not sitting in them for any reason, they fidget terribly. Adult chairs are just not designed for child use. Their legs dangle off the end and they are at the wrong level for the table. I would say that if ds1 wants to stop using his, I will let him stop when his feet can reach the floor when sitting properly on his bottom on a normal chair.

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 02/06/2010 22:26

DD's 7 and nearly 5, use theirs all the time, can't imagine them stopping.

pigletmania · 02/06/2010 22:52

I have never heard of them, so I googled it and wondered how on earth an older child or adult could sit on it, looks really flimsy. There was a picture of a baby on it and it does look very precariously balanced, where is the harness. They seem very expensive for what they are.

moaningminniewhingesagain · 03/06/2010 08:14

I have 2, one with baby set on,one without. They are very sturdy. Never used harness for DD but DS has to be strapped in because he is the climbing houdini type.

I think they are fab and would recommend them every time.

Threelittlemoomins · 03/06/2010 09:01

They're really solid actually piglet. You can buy a harness and (when using the baby set) the baby sits in it rather than being balanced on it. We bought one for DD at 6 months (now 4) because all her cousins are still using them and the oldest is 9.

I also discovered the other day that the wood components all have a 7 year guarantee. The paint on our black baby set started to chip after 18 months and we got a replacement within a week!

MrsJohnDeere · 03/06/2010 09:07

Ds1 stopped using ours at 2.3 when it was needed for ds2. Ds2 stopped using it by 2yo - was desperate to be on a 'proper' chair like his older brother. He was really dangerous in the TT too (tipping it over, climbing out etc).
