OK, so the hv came round today. I have DD1 who has just turned 3 and DD2 who is 4.5mo.

The HV was not happy with the following things:

DD1:
Still has a dummy for naps and bedtime
Still wears pull up nappies (uses a potty too, but we keep trying knickers and it just isn't happening yet)
Is learning her letters and numbers because she is interested in them
Is not in nursery or childcare of any kind

DD2:
has not been weighed since she was 8 wo
sometimes co-sleeps

I'm not some kind of weirdo mother who is stunting her children's growth am I?

I had my HV come and see me when my ds was 6 weeks. When my private mid-wife asked why it took so long for her intial visit, HV started yelling at her... in front of my nursing ds. I told her if she didn't calm down, she had to leave. HV told me she didn't have to leave - I told her the police would disagree! My one is a complete loony, asked the most stupid questions and tried to make me out to be the world's worst mother because I was doing a bit of mixed feeding as breast milk alone wasn't satisfying him. Basically, I learnt just to tell them what they want to hear and they leave. When I need proper advice, I go to a private ped.

Sounds like HV's are hit and miss, some are good and some are a complete waste of space. Butterpie - from the sounds of it, your's falls into the latter category. Pay no attention to her ridiculous, judgemental ways, you know what's best for your children.n

After my experience with health visitors all I will say is guidelines, guidelines, guidelines! All the health visitors I have seen don't even have children! Everything seems contradictive.

How can they be not happy about your child being in some kind of nursery? it doesn't mean they don't socialise. At the end of the day you know what is best for you and your children, and if it works for you that's all that matters
