Not walking at 14Mo.

Would like a bit of a reality check on whether I should be worried about this or not?

my 14MO son is not walking unaided. He is very active, cruising, pushes along his little cart (and can sucessfully negotiate furniture etc), happily walks holding my hand, but won't walk unaided...

My mum has a big problem with it and thinks there is a problem. I feel my son is progressing (albeit a little later than most) and it's not a problem...

Should I worry? and if not now, when?

DD has just started walking - she is 17 mo tomorrow.

Nothing to worry about.

My DD didn't walk til round 18-19 months
that was just at the point at which I was starting to worry about it.

But I tell you what - when she did start then, she was very good at it. Never really toppled over and we did away with the buggy soon after.

My DD didn't start walking until 15 months.....nothing to worry about.

My ds started walking at 13.5 months and I remember meeting up with my antenatal group the week before and not one of the babies were walking then. I wouldn't worry at all.

Also if they can weight bear, and is showing signs of walking then it's fine.

My dd is 18 months and just started cruising but still isnt walking. They all do it in their own time!

Ds started walking at 15 months. 'Normal' is anything up until 2, don't worry

DS2 didn't walk until 19mths. He was on the late end of normal range for all his physical milestones (sitting, crawling etc) so I sort of expected it. No stopping him now!

Totally normal. He's doing all the right things, just not confident enough to do it unaided yet.

I know you've had loads of responses but just wanted to add mine too.

16 months for my DS. He pushed his wee trolley around for months and then finally let go.

It'll happen when it happens. I worried too, but they all get there eventually. Show your mum these responses if it helps.

Neither of mine walked until they were 18 months - and at 3 & 6 are proficient walkers As long as he's bearing weight, definately nothing to worry about.

You might also want to know that early walking does not in any study correlate with intelligence

You should not worry/be concerned until about aged 2!

DS didn't walk until 17 months. Some of his friends were about the same age, all completely fine now and charge about like maniacs .

dd started walking at 14mo. I started at 2! (years, not months.)

Like everyone else says - and hope it's reassured you. The joy of mother's eh? ;o)

It's funny how we all worry about these things whilst they're babies when if you walked into a reception class at school and looked around you would not be able to take a remote guess at who walked, crawled, fed themselves, got on a potty early, average or late.

Some people reckon that they focus on one thing at a time - so for example if a brain is really working on language and social skills and a child's speech and interaction skills are taking a burst then physical stuff may take a back seat and slow down at that point and vice versa. The brain tending to specialise in one area at a time. Maybe your baby's is busy in other areas?

The other common saying is that 'boys are lazy' - got told this a lot when my son showed know interest in rolling over for ages after all the girls in his massage and baby classes. And then later when he just couldn't be bothered to feed himself. For example he never held a bottle, ever, didn't even try.

Just started a thread as we seeing pead due to our DD delays, she 17 month and only just started to bare weight.

as your ds cruises i wouldnt worry too much. my ds didnt walk untill 16 month

What ellagrace said is soo true.
my boys were much lazier and still true with thier dad who is 28 ha

No point in showing my mother... Once she has formed a view, it's pretty rigid but at least I can let it wash over me.

Yes, he's weight bearing very well and actually prefers to walk now (with aids of whatever description) than crawl - I have just had DD a week ago and, rather than me pick him up, he's happy to walk along with me as long as I hold his hand... he just won't do it unaided...

My niece was 22 months - she is now nearly 6 and totally normal!

My nephew (different family) was 17 months - he was jealous of new baby.

My SIL (unconnected with above children) was 22 months too. Nothing wrong with her.

My Dss were 12 and 14 months - they do it when they are ready!

Ds2, now 17 months, crawled at 8 months, cruised around the furniture at 11 months, but wouldn't walk on his own until 16 months.

My 14mo DS isn't standing or cruising holding on yet, so I wouldn't be concerned. I'm beginning to think DS is a bit behind now though...
