No they change.

DD was born with bright blue eyes too much to the surprise of all of us. Me and DP have browny, greeny, yucky colours.

Her eyes are just starting to change now at 14 months, they're going a little darker

JumpingDizzy · 18/03/2009 20:10

Wow never heard of dark brown eyed parents a and blue eyed baby? I know baby's eye colour changes not sure when?

PinkBubblesGoApe · 18/03/2009 20:12

Lovely pics! My DS had eyes like that... then they went green at 1yr, and a month later went a kind of caramel brown, his definite shade. Was at first but the brown does suit him...

Do you have any blue in the family? You never know, she may get to "keep" the colour.

Disenchanted3 · 18/03/2009 20:12

Awww i want them to stay

DHs mum, dad and sisters have blue eyes.

They might do

I thought two brown eyed parents would only have brown eyed children but it would seem that this is not the case!

Tillyscoutsmum · 18/03/2009 20:15

My dd has blue eyes. We thought they would change because me and dh have brown and hazel eyes but so far, they are still blue (22 months)

My dad and dh's dad both have blue eyes so it is possible for it to be a recessional gene and they could stay

I really want DS's eyes to stay the bright blue they are, but I have green eyes and DH and DSDs all have brown eyes, so I expect them to change.

But, they are still bright blue at 10 months (fingers crossed!!)

beansontoast · 18/03/2009 20:20

she is lovely.

they could well stay blue....any other blue eyes anywhere in the family?

my friend who is half indian has a completely fair, blonde haired blue eyed dd (like her daddy)..think she is about three and a half now..still blue! (i know it's not quite the same story as you)

i always thought brown eyes were dominant but i must be wrong!

for the rcord i like greeny mucky coloured eyes

twoluvlykids · 18/03/2009 20:22

both my kids had bright blue eyes till they were about 14/15 months, when they became glorious malteasers.

the eyes, not the kids.

now they're teens, their eyes are going green! I was worried at first, but apparently it's quite usual.

MrsTittleMouse · 18/03/2009 20:27

Do you want the "science bit"?
Brown eyes ^are dominant. What that means is that if you only have one brown eyed gene then you will have brown eyes. The other gene might be for brown eyes, or for blue eyes, but you won't have blue eyes as that gene is recessive (i.e. over-ridden by the brown). But you can still pass that blue-eyed gene on.
So if two brown-eyed people have children, they might both have both genes. And there is a one in 4 chance that a child would have two blue-eyed genes and be blue eyed.

  1. blue from Mum, brown from Dad - result = brown
  2. brown from Mum, brown from Dad - result = brown
  3. brown from Mum, blue from Dad - result = brown
  4. blue from Mum, blue from Dad - result = blue
CrackerNut · 18/03/2009 20:27

I have brown eyes and so does xp but dd1 has blue eyes.

jeanjeannie · 18/03/2009 20:27

My DD1 had very blue eyes which is common with red hair and the same as me. Then, at 11 months they turned green - really quite an amazing colour that no one else in our family seems to have Spooky, but lovely!

specialmagiclady · 18/03/2009 20:36

My parents are both dark hair dark eyes, all 3 kids blonde and blue eyed. But def no postman influence as we have other features in common with them and various aunts etc.

Jenski · 18/03/2009 20:37

Disenchanted, I was thinking this very same thing about my 3 month old dd.

Have a look here www.burpingbaby.net/baby_eye_color.htm

I have greeny/hazel (some say yellow eyes, and my husband has greeny grey eyes. DD1 has eyes the same colour as mine aged 4, DD2 has sea coloured eyes aged 3, and dd3 bright blue eyes at the moment (I like them!).

misdee · 18/03/2009 21:00

my blue eyed girl

dd4 has blue eyes atm, all the other dd's were born with brown eyes, so we are placing bets on when her eyes will change

4andnotout · 18/03/2009 21:27

My dd1 has blue eyes although mine are grey and xdp's were brown as were all his family.

bumpybecky · 18/03/2009 21:32

my eyes are brown (as are my parents and sister), DH's eyes are a sort of murky greeny browny yuck colour (!). I never thought I'd have a child with blue eyes as all of my family have brown eyes. I've ended up with...

dd1 - very blue eyes
dd2 - brown eyes (were never proper blue, brown by about 3 months)
dd3 - very blue eyes
ds (14m) blue eyes, but a greyish blue rather than full on blue

pebbles79 · 18/03/2009 21:33

Dis she is absolutely gorgeous!!

My two DS's have really dark (almost black) brown eyes and DD Zoey has gorgeous vivid blue eyes.

Zoey at 6 months
and around 10/11 months and still as blue.

DisasterArea · 18/03/2009 21:35

no idea but she is very beautiful

luvaduck · 18/03/2009 21:47

they could change

mrstitlemouse - actually eye colour is polygenic - in other words more than one set of genes (or alleles) control eye colour, so its much more complicated than that - and it isn't 1 in 4 chance, its hugely variable.

Both DH and I have v dark brown eyes, and ds is blue... (we thought they would change too - but still there at 18 months)
