Can you recommend any sensible books about toddler behaviour ?

I have a wonderful 15 month DD who is just starting to stamp her territory in our lives and although we aren't having too many tantrums (just a few little ones) I fear I may not be reacting in the best way to not encourage more ! I want to strike a balance between letting her grow, explore and define her own personality but understand 'NO' and some important boundaries. She has also just started having days where she just wants to be carried everywhere (very unusual for her !) and cries at everything. I'd like some guidance, so book recommends welcome. thanks

I have no answers but am watching this with interest as my 15 month old is the same and I'm struggling with how best to discipline him.

That sounds harsh! What I mean is how to encourage the lovely behaviour and discourage the not so lovely - throwing toys and whinging mostly.

I think the baby whisperer book on toddlers is pretty good

GrimbleTheResourceful · 21/01/2009 12:25

I'm sure MNHQ could recommend something

GrimbleTheResourceful · 21/01/2009 12:25

Sorry, that was obtuse. I meant the MN toddler book coming soon

HensMum · 21/01/2009 12:27

Grimble, of course I'll be getting that one!

been reading 'how to talk so kids will listen and listen so kids will talk' by Faber & Mazlish and also 'Superpowers for parents' by Stephen Briers. Found them both helpful.

Thre was a thread about exactly this quite recently - will try and link cos it had lots of helpful suggestions

Personally, i think The Mighty Toddler (Robin Barker) and Toddler Taming are excellent.

bellabelly · 21/01/2009 13:27

this is the thread I was thinking of.

Grammaticus · 21/01/2009 13:31

I think How To Talk is better for older children. Toddler Taming at this age, I'd say.

Another vote for Tanya Byron's Your Child, Your Way. Reading it was such a revelation. It felt like she was talking directly to me.

Toddler Taming is very pragmatic. How to Talk is great, but not appropriate for a child as young as 15 months.

Vangough · 22/01/2009 10:39

Thanks for all that ! I bought Toddler Taming so will start with that and see how we get on.....
