If you were a fairy, what trait would you bestow on your dc?

Remember the story of sleeping beauty? At her Christening the fairy Godmothers assembled and each one bestowed a special trait on her: good looks, a loving nature, intelligence, etc.

So which one trait would you bestow on your child if you could?

Personally I would wish for my DD to be generous: with emotions, love and support for others.

Having a hard time choosing between patience and tolerance. Can I choose two?

notevenamousie · 16/01/2009 06:41

Self esteem and security - to be happy in her own skin.

mymama · 16/01/2009 07:02

To be personable. I think it covers happy, generous, giving, common sense, patience and so on.

Am I greedy

snoopyatemyblanky · 16/01/2009 08:12

MyMama, you are greedy but who wouldn't be.

The reason why I ask is because I happened to speak to a friend who had an awful childhood and said no one really wished her well. I just assumed every mother would want her dc to stand on her shoulders (to do even better than her, to be well, happy). I just wondered what is important to other mums.

self confidence I think.

don;t you find that it is those with the least self confidence that get on worse in life, as they never believe anything right or good about themselves, or deem themselves worthy of anything.

so, yeah....self confidence it is

GooseyLoosey · 16/01/2009 08:19

Just one? Kindness. I think they are happy etc but think they would rub along with the world and each other better if they could sometimes be a little kinder.

southeastastra · 16/01/2009 08:20

empathy and intelligence

Joyfulness. Some people just have lovely happy energy and smileyness as their default setting.

Empathy

I think I would want self confidence - as someone who has sugffered with confidence issues all my life I think it changes so many things.

ds1 is easy... self confidence
ds2 is much harder, but I think I would like him to have unconditional love

LucyEllensmummy · 16/01/2009 09:51

definately self confidence - i struggle with it (though most people don't believe me because im a gobby cow) and so does DD1, so for DD2 i wish confidence and a worry free life. For DD1 i wish fulfillment (she is 18 yet still to find the path she wants to travel).

If we all wish hard enough, they will get it wont they? [hope]

MrsSeanBean · 16/01/2009 09:55

Ironically and jokingly I said said silence a few minutes ago.

Reading all the 'requests' for self confidence, I think that a useful trait is the ability to talk convincingly without necessarily knowing what you are talking about - 'the gift of the gab' as it used to be called. It gets you 'to the top' without exception IME.

MarmadukeScarlet · 16/01/2009 10:04

Self confidence/esteem for my DD - no matter how hard I've tried to istill self worth in her she still has none.

Maybe for DS good health or communication (has SN communication/health problems) or perhaps, as Blueshoes requested, resilience to deal with his challenges.
