Mr Tumble has completely freaked dd out.

Dd is 19mo, and on Boxing Day, we watched a new Something Special DVD. There is a particular episode where Mr. Tumble dresses up as a baby. The camera pans to a moses basket, peers inside, and it's Mr. Tumble, pretending to be a baby and crying.

Dd jumped and started crying, I can only assume she expected to see an actual baby in there. She went on and on and on about it all day, and is still mentioning it now. She doesn't seem visibly distressed, and we took her to see my BF's baby yesterday to show her that babies are lovely, and not scary. She is still occasionally mentioning it though, and telling me that the 'baby is gone', I think because we were saying, 'no dd, it's fine, it's gone now'.

Is she weird? Or is this normal when something spooks them?

Disclaimer: I am very neurotic.

she isnt weird!
My DS got freaked by the teletubbies when very little and still can't bear so see them anywhere 10+years later.

MrsWeasleyStrokesSantasSack · 30/12/2008 14:09

FWIW I think Mr Tumble in a bonnet and baby clothes would freak me out too.

Pinkjennybellrock · 30/12/2008 14:12

I just thought maybe she was a bit little to be so spooked by something! I know, MrsWeasley, my BF said the same thing.

Bless her, she keeps looking at me with these huge, brown, wide eyes and telling me the baby is 'gone', with a hand gesture to match. God, I though Mr. Tumble was relatively safe viewing!

Mr Tumble as a baby freaked my dd out too!
then for ages she wouldn't watch something special unless we assured her that it wasn't the one with a baby! she was about 3 at the time too!

SnowOfHands · 30/12/2008 14:14

Are you neurotic PJ? Really?

Oh that's good. At least it's not just her. I was worrying that she had some kind of behavioural ishoo.

I'm so pleased, I've been very worried about it. MerryflippinChristmas - sorry, but LOL at the Tubby Custard.

Ladies, you are officially worth your tubby custard weight in gold.

I shall write a strongly worded letter to the BBC immediately, calling for Justin's head.

Themasterandsnowballs · 30/12/2008 15:57

you are all barking, obviously.

Who on earth is Mr Tumble and why is he married to Justin and why is it necessary to watch him at 3am?

Can't your children be scared about normal things like, lions or spiders?

Mr Tumbles freaks me out and makes DD really nervous at certain shows.

But the worse is the talking HOuse/bookcase on Step Inside - She turns grey and shakes with fear when it comes on.....

Pinkjennybellrock · 30/12/2008 16:02

Oh yes, my dd is also very suspicious of that talking house!

Aw Crush, she shakes with fear? Bless her heart!

alicecrail · 30/12/2008 16:17

My dd is very bold and nothing seems to bother her, until mister maker came on with the dancing shapes and she started sobbing!

alicecrail · 30/12/2008 16:17

she is 13months

Pinkjennybellrock · 30/12/2008 16:26

I am so relieved it's not just dd who is scared by completely random things!

OP posts:
CrushWithEyeliner · 30/12/2008 17:01

Yes Pinkjenny it is really awful she can't even speak just holds her breath!

I think when something taps into their imagination it can really affect them - but DD is like that even with people and relatives so I am used to it now.

UnquietDad · 30/12/2008 17:03

Mr Tumble is disturbing at the best of times, let's be honest. As is that talking house.

As a child I was terrified by Spike, the drummer from "Play Away". I think it was because he was so hairy. And also by Hartley Hare, who I still find quite sinister when i see clips today.

sparklyxmasfairy · 30/12/2008 17:08

dd loves Mr Tumble and all Justin whatever but she is terrified of that particular episode and always has been, she is 3 now

ChristMarsSleighdy · 30/12/2008 17:11

DT1 was freaked out by Mr Tumble for ages (which was a shame as I'd just bought a couple of DVDs). It took about 18 months for her to get over it. She really likes him now. (She's almost 5)
