Raising Boys

After reading a post regarding a mothers worry about her ds, a recommendation by another postee advised to buy a book called 'Raising Boys'. I decided to buy it (i've never felt the need to refer to a book before about my child) but I wanted to understand a bit more about 'boys'. Being a female and having a large age gap between me and my older brother, I felt a bit out of touch with understanding what boys go through as they grow up. I finished the book today - It's a great read and it's highlighted some points that I hope will help me understand so much more about my little man. Has anyone else read this book?

this book seemed very poorly researched to me. by page 2 he has cited research saying boys don't read books any more by the time they're in third grade (aged 8 - an age when kids might just be starting to read books for pleasure), and that boys in secondary school don't participate in concerts, debating societies, student councils, or anything not related to sports.
i can only go on his word that this is what the studies he cites say, but reality doesn't seem to back him up.

I like the book and have some of his other ones too. Don't get why he is so contraversial as have never found anything offensive in his books, and I used to have a DC in f/t nursery. I think it is great how there is a book especially for mums who 'don't know what to do with boys' as I felt having my first boys (twins) after having no brothers etc.
