fab. amazing. fab. (i rather like mine. )
until ds tried to jump out in an attempt to explore, but that didn't happen til 9/12, and was predictable.

ds loved it. all my relatives thought i had stuck him on the potty when they saw pics though!!

Yeah mine was good still got it now, even though dd is 2.3yrs, use it for friends dcs when they come round, great invention.

beansmum · 08/06/2008 11:42

ds used his for about 1/2 a day, such a waste of money. He hated it and by the time he was old enought to use it was strong enough to get out of it. He just went rigid, stuck his legs out straight and kind of rolled out.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 08/06/2008 11:44

Agree with turniphead. I think they are great, but they are only used for a short amount of time. So either get a second hand one, or take care of a new one and sell it on EBay at a later date.

Sawyer64 · 08/06/2008 11:48

Did read some report somewhere that they arent very good for their backs.......otherwise they seem a great idea.If you google them, you might find the report and then decide yourself if its worth worrying about.

snickersnack · 08/06/2008 12:01

I think it really depends on the child. dd loved it, would sit in for about 20 minutes at a time for a fair few months. ds hated it, and perfected the art of flipping out of it after about 3 days. The other problem with it is that it coincides in development terms with the age at which they start being properly interested in toys but if they drop whatever they are playing with it's out of reach. Tables would be a good idea. Ours is also a "group bumbo" - been passed around for years now...they are fairly indestructible so definitely not worth buying new.

Dynamicnanny · 08/06/2008 14:35

Not a fan - for reasons above - also slightly heavier babies tend to get wedged in

theangelshavethephonebox · 08/06/2008 14:40

My ds didn't like being in it, and I passed it on to two other friends for their babies but neither got any use out of it either. Definitely borrow one for a few days if you possibly can to see if your child likes it.

mrshedge · 08/06/2008 17:06

Agree with others- borrow or buy second hand rather than new. Your baby might not take to it or might flip out of it and regardless they are used for a very short amount of time.

BlueDragonfly · 08/06/2008 17:10

we still have ours 3 years later!

ds2 sat in at at 4 months and hated it, went back in at 6 months and loved it until he discovered he could flip him self out (did the straight kegs thing) but by then DS1 was using it for his "telly chair"(he has always been skinny. It was used as a dirty clothes collector for a while and is now about to be used by ds3! after that its to the MN xmas box

WonderingWhy · 08/06/2008 17:14

I hated it, sorry! Twice!

First time the child wouldn't fit in it because of big cloth nappies...bear this in mind! So it was saved for second child, who fitted in it but dropped everything and then couldn't get it - needs a tray which I believe you can buy.

He was sitting at 4mo anyway so didn't need it really. I bought mine second hand at a boot sale so didn't mind too much

Dragonbutter · 08/06/2008 17:15

i bought ours on ebay, used it for 6 months and sold it for the same price i bought it for.
they keep their 2nd hand value well as long as you don't cover it in bolognese stains.

mollysawally · 08/06/2008 17:21

My dd hated it. She soon worked out how to manovure out of it. I regret buying it to be honest.

ThinWhiteDuchess · 08/06/2008 17:24

I hated it. So did DD. Tbh, think it's because she has her father's legs (quite chunky athletic), so seemed quite wedged in on the few occasions we used it. Out of all the baby things we have bought, we consider the Bumbo to have been the biggest waste of money...anyone want to buy it off me??

merryandmad · 08/06/2008 17:27

We had one brought as a present and dd1 would sit on the worktop whilst I did the washing up etc (great value for money in terms of that!!), but only liked it for short periods of time.
It has now become group bumbo again, having been passed on to dd2 (tp get her out of older sisters way) and two other babies. Fab- but buy a second hand one if you can!!

dylsmum1998 · 08/06/2008 20:59

my friends had one for her ds1 and she used it all the time, tbh i wasnt keen as to me it looked like it pinched his wee chubby legs
my dd wouldnt sit in one, she had learnt to roll to get where she wanted from 12 weeks so didnt like anything that prevented her from moving!

ScottishMummy · 08/06/2008 21:08

wee one hated this product.kinda looked stuck there like sitting in a plant pot. gave it away

ready4anothercoffee · 08/06/2008 21:10

Am watching this thread with interest, am considering getting one for dd2.

Anyone planning on getting rid of theirs[in a hopeful way]

MuffinMclay · 08/06/2008 21:16

Fantastic things. Ds1 loved his, and had hated his bouncy chair, so it was wonderful to have somewhere to put him. Ds2 (16 weeks) has just started using it and giggles when put into it. Ds2 also likes using it now as a little armchair for watching TV.

MuffinMclay · 08/06/2008 21:17

Ds1 (not 2) is the tv watching one

lizziemun · 08/06/2008 21:22

DD1 loved it and still sits in it now at 4.4yrs (she is very skinny).

DD2 (9mths) hates it and pushes herself out of it.

harpomarx · 08/06/2008 22:10

dd hated it, got wedged in - definitely no good if your baby is bigger than average and has any ambition to move. Imagine the claustrophobia of having your little thighs wedged into a bit of brightly coloured rubber so that you cannot move. uggh!

correct me someone, but the whole thing just strikes me as a grisly marketing opportunity. As in, let's buy this seat that makes the baby look as though it can sit up on its own even though it can't...

ps mine was a loan

chocbiscuits · 08/06/2008 22:58

Ds liked it but after 4 days invented a way to get out of it by leaning backwards till it toppled. Plus found it rather low-down tbh, you have to scrabble round the floor with spat out bits of food!!!
