. She had just climbed like a monkey on to my dresser, where there is some change, and is counting out some coins.

She just said, one...two...three...six, six? six? whilst counting them [proud mummy emoticon]

She has been saying the words for a while, says two, three, one, etc, but just words, no understanding...until now.

How cool is that?!

I don't believe you, pavlov.

She must have said, one, two, free.

C'mon. She can't wrap her tongue around three????

Twinklemegan · 31/05/2008 23:19

Hi Pavlov! Your DD sounds really cute. The other week my DS was on the slide ready to go down and I said "One... Two..." and he piped up "Free!". I was so proud of him.

He definitely has a concept of numbers as well. He will say "two" somethings if there are two (or sometimes more). If there are three things he points to them in turn and goes "Free, Free, Free".

It's just amazing what they learn isn't it, even at such a young age.

worley · 31/05/2008 23:20

my 23 mth old ds2 can count to 5 BUT only because i count to 5 to get him to do something, like when he is buggering off and he has till 5 to get back or mummy runs afteer him!!! so now i say 1 ... 2... and he counts the rest off for me!!

he can sing the words "tomorrow tomorrow" in the annie style, thats as far as he can get to, he also knows the maddonna song as soon as its on the radio and sings tik tok all the way through, and theres some song hip hop that goes Low Low low Low which repeatedley sings. i have never known a child to sing so much... and he loves dont worry be happy!!

Twinklemegan · 31/05/2008 23:22

That gushing PFB thread's been pulled hasn't it? I wanted to see if the OP was talking about me - damn.

callmeovercautious · 31/05/2008 23:32

Hi Pav It must be the sleep deprevation they inflicted on us . I am thinking of sleep is for the weak! DD is 21m in a few days. Today she stood on the number 8 of a hpscotch and said "eight" and then moved to 9 and said "nine" really clearly. The other really nice Mum in the Shoe Shop said wow 2 numbers, thats good. I found myself trying to defend myself - not wanting to appear a pushy Mummy

I bet your DD speaks quite well already? Numbers are just a natural progression from general vocab.

I keep wanting to think she is G&T but then again everyone learns to count eventually. I just enjoy it now for the funny faces people pull when they hear her

colander · 01/06/2008 00:01

DD1 used to say one, two, hree, whore

Kewcumber · 01/06/2008 00:11

my 2.6 yr old can count to two, or so I thought until I realise that he thinks 2 is anything more than one!

Kewcumber · 01/06/2008 00:11

however he does regcognise the letter M for mummy clearly a genius then!

pavlovthecat · 01/06/2008 14:12

desi -lol, actually, she says fwee!
cmoc she does speak very well, can talk in three word sentences. Mainly ' Bella do it'! You sound like me, at nursery they say she is clever, and I just think yeah bet you say that to all the parents. so oh well, you know, just developing at a different rate than the others, blah blah (but inwardly, gush with pride at my genius child!). Is your LO sleeping yet?!

Kewcumber - up until recently, DD only ever said 'two'!

pavlovthecat · 01/06/2008 14:14

twinkle what thread was that? Missed it. Was likely me I bet, if it was moaning about PFB mums gushing! I always gush on MN! And in RL.

Cant help it!

I have two friends whose 21m olds can count very clearly and reliably to ten. Mine can too, only he says

"Two....twoooo....TWO....two....etc"

callmeovercautious · 01/06/2008 20:17

Ah yes the old - she is very bright from Nursery - we do wonder how much is true and how much is keeping the Parents sweet

Yes I am sorry to say she does sleep fairly well now. I am expecting something different tonight though as she has Chickenpox She is still very unpredicable though. One day up with the sparrows, the next I am dragging her out of bed so I can get to work on time

purplejennyrose · 01/06/2008 20:34

Weeell...my 2 yr old counts to 8 - in English and German!! BUT I don't think she has the first clue what the numbers mean - she can count 2 toys / shoes etc with prompts but beyond that she just knows she's cute and very clever if she carries on.

Kewcumber · 01/06/2008 22:52

Ds has just started using the word "one" as in "my one, your one" when pointing me in the direction of the smaller bowl of ice-cream. But is now confusing everyone when he has two of something by saying "two one's".

Scoobi6 · 01/06/2008 23:05

dd (18mo) counted down the stairs this morning: "twooo, freee, ... ... six ... six ... freee ... ... daddy ... free"

Twinklemegan · 01/06/2008 23:08

ROFL at Kewcumber and Scoobi!

DiabloCody · 01/06/2008 23:35

mine is 22 months and counts to eleven ...
