come to think of it I think I learnt about vaginas in 4th year Juniors (whatever the modern day equivalent is)

FrannyandZooey · 09/04/2008 18:27

princessmel I think the answer is that the comparable name for female parts as understood by everyone is 'fanny'
and fanny is found to be quite rude by some people, certainly not as acceptable as willy

VeniVidiVickiQV · 09/04/2008 18:27

would you prefer volvic?

dancingonthelilypads · 09/04/2008 18:28

Was that the lesson where the boys went out to play Slubberedgullion? the nuns then told us all about 'it'

VeniVidiVickiQV · 09/04/2008 18:28

Fanny is bum in the US isnt it?

Slubberdegullion · 09/04/2008 18:28

actually I knew about vaginas long before that as had seen my dad with arm inserted, to shoulder level,up bovine vaginas.

princessmel · 09/04/2008 18:28

Yup thats right F and Z. You are always right. I'll tell her that if she says it again.

dancingonthelilypads · 09/04/2008 18:29

lulu!!

Twinkie1 · 09/04/2008 19:08

Mummy and DD ave a Noonie and Daddy and DS have Winkies.

Vagina, Vulva and Penis just aren't words that I would like DD or DS to start bandying about at their ages.

Slubberdegullion · 09/04/2008 19:09

Yes it is. I used to love watching my dad artificially inseminating cows as a kid.
(no laughing now, this is a serious genitalia thread).

Although the best bits were always:
my dad putting on the ginormously long blue glove that went right up and over his shoulder.
the removal of the sperm in a tube from the giant vat of...oh god..I've forgotton what the stuff is....super cold...nitrox oxide?? (anyway when you open the lid, great plumes of scientific cold smoke come out of the top)

cold smoke did I just really say that? sheesh

you get my drift.

It was awesome.

I got to hold the cows tail out of the way

ellideb · 09/04/2008 19:16

Privates. Thats what we used to call it as children 'our privates'

keepcalmandcarryon · 09/04/2008 19:19

ok this is what I always say on these threads - we have used willy for DS1 and DS2, struggled with name for DD3 - eventually ended up with 'bits' and 'private parts' - now use it for all three, interchangeably, eg in bath, "now, wash your private parts"

Quite like the recognition that these are your own private bits, without making an enormous hullaballoo about stranger danger - see this website

BTW my mother never called it anything. I knew what a vagina was, but there is no equivalent of the willy, until the MN fanjo usage becomes more widely acceptable.

Must go now, kids in bath washing whatever we all choose to call them

CrushWithEyeliner · 09/04/2008 19:25

min

DD calls all things re. (Tampax, Pads, Bikini Line wax) "Min Admin" LOL

KMUN · 09/04/2008 19:31

At risk of offending anyone Dutch: the Netherlands

ThingOne · 09/04/2008 19:54

You think this is tricky? I've recently been fitted with a fashionable colostomy. DS1 (4) was really interested when I showed him diagrams of internal organs (clearly an indigo child) before the op but does not believe me that my poo now comes out of my tummy. Confuses things a tad ... Maybe he's not so indigo after all.

Klaw · 09/04/2008 21:07

So should we all en masse start our dd's calling their private bits 'fanjo'?

I could live with that.

I'm afraid I do find vulva a bit harsh, and would prefer something a bit more 'friendly'

and fanjo always makes me smile!

keepcalmandcarryon · 09/04/2008 21:10

Yes. Fanjo. Absolutely, it's the f equiv of willie.

Not sure how my MIL will react tho (as if I NEEDED another reason )

Flum · 09/04/2008 21:17

Fanjo is great!

Keepcalmandcarron, love your name I have the poster in my kitchen. DD first started reading with it! And points it out to me when I am being ratty. 'Read your picture mum, read your picture' she says.

gigglewitch · 09/04/2008 21:21

Klaw - I think so. There's going to be a time verrrrryy soon when DD [28mo] wants to know what to call hers. She has already walked (naked) around the landing doing big sighs and shaking her head, saying "where my willy gone?"
Presume she thinks two big brothers have them so she should too...

BexieID · 09/04/2008 21:23

I grew up with a Cuckoo!

ScubaDuba · 09/04/2008 21:25

Given that most toddlers refer to their stomach as 'tummy', it seems a bit of a stretch (to me at least) to have them refer to girly bits as 'vulva'. It just seems a tad formal IMO. I wonder what a paediatrician would call it when they have very young female patients - anyone here know?

My mum also never called my bits anything other than 'privates/private parts'. It was the coarse boys at school who provided me with words such as 'fanny' and similar.
