what are your reasons for this? is it because either you or dp work til late and you wouldn't get to see them otherwise, is that just when they go to bed and there's no reason for it or do you have any other reasons?

can't persuade her to give up any earlier
shes 14 months

eandh · 05/04/2008 17:39

I wish I could sometimes keep mine up as it'd be a hell of a lot easier at times but both of mine (dd1 is 3.6 and dd2 is 15months) have always gone to bed between 6 and 6.45

Divvy · 05/04/2008 17:39

Mine goes bed at 9-10pm, wish it was earlier...we are working on it!

nappyaddict · 05/04/2008 17:41

trinity would you like her to be in bed earlier or are you happy with the time she goes to bed?

20 months DD, goes to bed between 8pm and 9pm usually. DH and I only get home from work at 6.30pm and by the time we've made tea and spent a little bit of time with her, it's time for bed. It does have slight benefits in that she usually gets up at weekends at about 8.30am (although this morning it was 7.30, thankfully I'd already made a deal with DH that if he wanted to go to the match today it would be his turn to do morning get up and dressed !).
As far as I'm concerned, as long as DD is happy and isn't getting too worn out or grouchy, she can go to bed any time before 9pm.

berolina · 05/04/2008 17:47

If we put ds1 (2.11) to bed any earlier he would be up earlier. The 7pm bedtime beloved of most MNers would mean a 5am start. If we were lucky. As it is, he's in bed between 8 and 9 and up any time between 6.30 and 8. And no, he doesn't have a nap.

tiredandnowty · 05/04/2008 17:47

Oh, forgot to mention before, we managfed to get it back to 8ish from 10pm about 6 months ago so we're happy with 8ish !!!

berolina - has 8-9pm always been his bedtime or is it something you've had to push back as he's got older to avoid early wakings?

Lilymaid · 05/04/2008 17:54

Both of mine resolutely refused to go to sleep before 8.30 all through their childhood. They never had any difficulty getting up in the morning for toddler group/ child minder/playgroup/school, so though we might have liked it if we had more evening to ourselves, it was never a big issue.

nappyaddict · 05/04/2008 17:56

pistachio from what age has 8:30-9 been her natural bedtime?

OP posts:
Weegle · 05/04/2008 17:58

Well mine doesn't go to sleep until 8.30/9pm but he goes to bed at 7.30/7.45pm. He's 22 months. He wakes between 6 and 6.30 so I'm kind of grateful that he doesn't fall asleep much sooner as that would mean painfully early starts. He just doesn't seem to need a massive amount of sleep.

MummyToOneForNow · 05/04/2008 18:00

I put dd (16 mths) to bed at 7pm but it is taking her longer and longer to go to slepp and she is routinely up at 6am so I am thinking about moving her bedtime later (even though that will eat into our evening) - she naps for a max of 1hr immediately after lunch and doesn't seem ready to drop that yet.

lilymaid - did you find they woke up by themselves in time for those things or did you have to wake them sometimes?

Chaotica · 05/04/2008 18:06

Ours go to bed about 9.30 (and get up about 9am) -- works for me while I'm not working and DP gets to see the DCs in the week.

DJCod · 05/04/2008 18:06

cant persuade her?
fgs just TAKE HER

nappyaddict · 05/04/2008 18:08

chaotica how old are yours?

CoteDAzur · 05/04/2008 18:11

DD (2.6) goes to bed at about 9 PM. We quite like this because:

(1) DH comes home late and we (try to) have dinner together. So DD eats with us at about 7:30 PM.

(2) She then wakes up at 8:30 AM so none of that getting up at the crack of dawn in our house.

CoteDAzur · 05/04/2008 18:11

She doesn't nap, either.

MNersanonymous · 05/04/2008 20:17

Nappyaddict- what is the issue with yours - is your dc going to bed too late or are you thinking about changing it?

My ds is 2.9 and goes to bed at 8.15ish. I like it as I get most of my evening still but he doesn't wake as early as he otherwise would.

blueshoes · 05/04/2008 21:22

I would have thought it is possible to manipulate children's natural bedtimes, by struturing their wake up time, length and timing of naps during the day.

Then again, mine tend to sleep a set amount number of hours a day (in ds' case 13 hours at 18 months). So if I wanted him to go to bed later, it would mean a later start in the day, or a top-up nap in late afternoon.

TrinityTheProgressingRhino · 05/04/2008 21:27

nappyaddict, I would like her to go to bed earlier than 9 or 9.30 ish which is when she does now most times

I think she needs more sleep in the nightime than she is getting if she wakes at 7,30 and I need more time awake without her IYSWIM

lokka · 05/04/2008 21:28

i have a 10.5 mo that goes to bed between 8 and 9

it just seems right for all parties
