Just how bossy is your toddler?

As my one, all 2.4 yrs of him, appears to be shaping up into an absolute tyrant.
He has taken to ordering me around in the most imperious tone.

"Mama. Coat off."
"Mama. Hair. DOWN. (I tend to wear it up for work.)
"Mama. Shoes. OFF."

All requirements to be met, before he will deign to give me a cuddle.

He doesn't like me wearing nail polish - "take OFF!" he thunders, pointing disapprovingly at my hands..... or jewelry, or glasses.

I pity his future wife!

What happens if you don't comply?

Rolypole · 26/03/2008 21:41

Living under Tiny Tyranny here too.
Shall we rebel?

chrissnow · 26/03/2008 21:42

If he's anything like my dd1. either
a) Tantrum. tantrum. tantrum
or
b) She removes offending article(s) herself.

Big bossy demand of today. 'mommy. stop singing.'

nancy75 · 26/03/2008 21:42

rebelion is futile, just know your place and do as you are told!

Bluestocking · 26/03/2008 21:45

My DS was horribly bossy when he was two and a half. He's not so bad now. But I do remember saying to my mother "he's so bossy!" and she said, in a very arch tone, "I can't think where he got that from." Which was a fair point.

jelliebelly · 26/03/2008 21:50

Great aren't they - since collecting ds 2.6 from nursery today I've had:-

  • "music on mummy please" (promising start!) followed by "no, not that one, I want MY music"
  • "coat off mummy"
  • "take shoes off mummy"
  • to dh "don't sit next to me"
  • "you sit over there"
  • "come and sit next to me"
  • "no not like that, like this"
  • "mummy carry it upstairs"

..there's probably loads more too..

snottyshoulders · 26/03/2008 21:51

Hmmmm and I'm worrying that my 2 year old isn't talking yet!

Rolypole · 26/03/2008 22:34

What are yours strictest about? For mine, it is my appearance, no MIL or frosty boss could be more exacting:
Hair: down but not across face
Jewellery: Necklace, earrings and rings, but no watch or bracelet.
Make up: Certainly not!
Clothes: Skirt not trousers, tights are to be patterned, shoes to be removed the instant we are inside the house.

My feminist heart withers in my breast.

mazzystar · 26/03/2008 22:37

"put your seatbelt on!"

"i'm the leader - you all follow me"

"stop singing mummy"

This is what we get for treating the pfb like a princeling.

Rolypole · 26/03/2008 22:39

So what happens when you have another one? Do we just get bumped further down the pecking order or does the eldest boss the new one and leave us in peace?

coppertop · 26/03/2008 22:42

Dd (2yrs) has a promising future career as a dictator. She's the youngest of three but doesn't let that stop her ordering her brothers about. Apart from the constant stream of orders of "Stop!" "Up!" "Down!" "Off!" and "Mine!" she's also perfected the art of saying "Mummy!" in a way that means "Answer me right this minute or you will be in so much trouble, young lady." It's like living with a pint-sized version of my mother some days.

mazzystar · 26/03/2008 22:46

dd is already showing the potential for excelling in this area. as she's not yet walking she climbs on me as if boarding an elephant and points in the direction she wishes to travel. squeezes her knees together to gee me up.

fishie · 26/03/2008 22:47

tiny prince here demands
"derrrink"
"now mummy"
"fizzy water"
"pleeeeeeeeeeease"
"not fizzy water"
"in a CUP"
"want milk please"
"hot chocolate?"
"derrrink"
glugs tap water.

Rolypole · 26/03/2008 22:50

rofl at mazzybaby squeezing knees to gee up

Bluestocking · 26/03/2008 22:56

Mazzy, DS used to do that to me if I gave him a piggyback - he used to "kick on" just as if we were out on a hack!

HereComeTheGirls · 27/03/2008 10:15

My DD is starting to get bossy at only 17 months - am scared of how she will be when older! She says "want it" and points at things, "mummy cuddle" (for 2 seconds) "climb up" , when she wants a hand up, *out", when she wants out of her highchair, "down", when she wants you to put her down, "milk please" .(well sometimes, or sometimes she just bellows, am happy with the please though!) "on it" when she wants on a slide..the list goes on..all her language development is going into bossiness I think!

HereComeTheGirls · 27/03/2008 10:16

She also sits and waves her little fists at me if I don't get her out of her cot quickly enough

I have 2 poppet dictators, 4.6 and 1.6.

fluffyanimal · 27/03/2008 10:51

DH is not allowed to read the Radio Times: "No Daddy - mummy's!" (Why the RT belongs to me God only knows.) At bed time we have "Milk!" followed by a tiny hand pushing me off the sofa to go and get it. And woe betide anyone who sits in the wrong place. "No mummy - daddy chair!"

furrycat · 27/03/2008 10:51

When my three year old gets over-bossy I tell him firmly "I'm in charge" (no, I don't really believe it either) He pipes back with "But I'm a little bit in charge Mummy"

Smee · 27/03/2008 11:42

furrycat, mine says outright, "No mummy, I'm in charge". And for all you mother's of two year old tyrants it only gets worse. My nearly four year old even tries to tell me what knickers to wear every morning...

bambam30 · 27/03/2008 16:05

gosh i thought it was only mine that did this i have been growing my hair and have just tied it back today when ds 2.6 saw it he went mad mama off hair now!!!! so i laughed and said no but he was so insistent that it went that i did let it back down

nervousal · 27/03/2008 16:10

With mine she definitely has a leader complex. When we're out she insists we all march in a line behind her. God help us if we step out of line!! "I'M THE LEADER!!!"

cmotdibbler · 27/03/2008 16:14

mazzystar - mine can walk, but likes us to be horses at the moment. 'Mummy clip clop' . If I don't comply I get pushed on the back to make me get down. Of course now he brings his reins to complete the experience. I always shut the blinds so that no one sees me crawling around with a set of reins over my head.
And when hes in the sling he uses his legs to indicate the pace at which I should be walking. The green man at a pedestrian crossing def gives me the instruction to walk on.
