BUt next to me was a mum and a kid of about6 or 7y. thye were chatting and waiting.

i coudlnt decide whether to cross or wait.

I would have waited. DD always spots when people don't cross when the green man is showing and never fails to point out the "naughty people!"

sandcastles · 06/03/2008 08:57

I would have waited.

I was standing at a crossing with dd waiting for the little green man when a few school girls stopped to cross as well, as soon as the road was clear, most went to cross. One of the girls pulled them back & said that they should set a good example to my dd!

DualCycloneCod · 06/03/2008 08:57

even with all abled bodeid( nad not so able tbh) corssign willy nilly and NO CARS TO BE SEEN

I think you should have waited. I am teaching my toddler about the green man and the beeps etc, but he kleeps asking if others are crossing why cant he - try explaining that to a 2 year old

Wotz · 06/03/2008 09:03

We have all been in that position as a parent/carer or as the adult who is late and impatient.

You can't expect everyone to wait if there are NO cars in sight. But I would wait if I had my dcs. They know its safer to wait.

PortAndLemon · 06/03/2008 09:04

I always wait if there are children (someone else's) there, from the "setting an example" point of view. If there aren't any children then I risk it.

Wotz · 06/03/2008 09:04

Did she tell you off?

DualCycloneCod · 06/03/2008 09:04

Umm, I think I need a plan of the road and where everyone was sanding (and what shoes you were wearing) and any dangerous parked cars or vans before I say anymore.

DoubleBluff · 06/03/2008 09:06

I'd have crossed.

mustrunmore · 06/03/2008 09:09

I'd like to think I'd have waited. But might have just dashed across because I could with noi kis in tow

Hassled · 06/03/2008 09:09

I would have dithered about the moral dilemma for so long that the man would have become green in the meantime, hence no problem.

lionheart · 06/03/2008 09:15

Stopped.

SorenLorensen · 06/03/2008 09:17

I always wait if there are kids there - even if I don't have mine with me. Actually, I have been known to wait with another adult, no kids in sight, and announce brightly "green man!" when the lights change

TheMadHouse · 06/03/2008 09:20

"Not my job to teach other peoples kids an examlpe" And they wonder what is happening with todays society.

Lovley sentiment

bobsmum · 06/03/2008 09:24

I always stop even if I'm on my own. I've grown up watching too many cars run red lights. My little brother saw an old lady killed on the green man.

Dh and my friends think I'm absolutely daft - I have a bit of a reputation on this one, but I will not cross on a red man. I feel it's risky enough, without adding to the risk IySWIM.

I just hate roads/cars/driving/busyness in general. Am scaredy cat.
