ok was at a crossing, on foot, in town. the man was on red, so out of habit i stopped( was a bit distraceted). then noticed there were no cars in sight and other adults were corssing.
BUt next to me was a mum and a kid of about6 or 7y. thye were chatting and waiting.

i coudlnt decide whether to cross or wait.
there were NO CARS, everyone else was crossing.

what woudl YOU HAVE DONE

Would have waited but would have secretly wanted to cross.

bobsmum · 06/03/2008 09:30

I know it's the site challenge thingy - but I will bite on this one.

fryalot · 06/03/2008 09:33

I would have waited, as would most of these MNers

DoubleBluff · 06/03/2008 09:45

OK if i am 100% honest I wouldn't have waited and if I had been the Mum at the roadside with my child I wouldn't have expected the other person to wait with us.
But I am not a very nice person.

Wotz · 06/03/2008 09:46

squonk I thought of your post, forgot it was you.

TBH if the crossing is near a school or on route to a school I think everyone should wait by example.

Most of us do near our school however, there are some that don't, dragging their children with them.

FranSanDisco · 06/03/2008 09:51

I'd have waited because I'd have felt obliged to set a good example, even though they weren't my children . Had I been on my todd I'd have pegged it across. My children always comment on the adults who cross on the red man and we say how dangerous they are tut tut tut

mumeeee · 06/03/2008 10:06

I always wait when thre are children waiting to cross.

OverMyDeadBody · 06/03/2008 10:16

I'd wait if there where little kiddies waiting, or I'd keep walking and find another place to cross without any moral dilemas!

Threadworm · 06/03/2008 10:16

You gotta teach them discretion. If they are supposed to be a slave to the rule 'don't cross when red'; they will be a slave too to the rule 'safe to cross when it's green' -- which it isn't, unless you check carefully first.

WanderingTrolley · 06/03/2008 10:18

I would wait for the green man if there were children there [prim]

Unless I were in a hurry or forgot [hypocrite]

HuwEdwards · 06/03/2008 10:19

If there was a child on their own who was waiting, I'd have waited with them.

If the child had an adult with them, I'd have crossed.

Adults break the 'rules' all the time

Adults have different rules, because they are adults.

DualCycloneCod · 06/03/2008 10:48

Snippety · 06/03/2008 13:21

I always wait as I'm really short sighted, crap at wearing my glasses and have been run over twice. Sing song to DS in sling:

"wait for the green man, wait for the green man , wait for the green man and you will be safe. So we stood and we waited for the green man to appear, wait for the green man and you will be safe !" to the tune of "Waltzing Matilda"

Look like a mad but don't care !!
