First Christmas present?

Hi, my DS is 4 1/2 months old. We would like to give him a Christmas present. I know he won't understand the concept of a present but we thought it would be nice to give him something that in the future he can look back and say was his first Christmas present from his mum and dad.

Just wondering what would be a good first Christmas gift?

My Dh bought DD a really cute cuddly bunny - somethinf speacial so she can keep it forever.

mishiclaus · 08/12/2004 12:13

hi we did the christmas decoration for ds last yr and also got him a personalised book with his age and name and where he lives etc in
then it said to .... happy first xmas love mummy n daddy

snowmoon · 08/12/2004 21:04

Bought a Winnie The Pooh piggy bank this afternooon for DS. Daddy has agreed to put in a few coins once in a while, so when DS starts to understand the concept of money he will already have a small amount in there. :)

Lovely idea from Warmmum, we got dd a beautiful illustrated book of fairy tales. OK, she's not reading it yet (16 months) but then what do you buy a tiny baby for Christmas really...she also got adorable but short-lived clothes, for example.

TheHollyAndTheTwiglett · 09/12/2004 10:57

Get him a Skwish Classic .. that's what I'm getting DD (7 months) cos they look like fun for me to play with Grin

We also do the one special new christmas tree decoration a year thing

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 09/12/2004 10:59

Both DSs had bears for their first Christmas. DS1 had a limited edition dated & numbered Merry Thought bear and DS2 got a Steiff. Both from Fortnum & Mason. Needless to say, they're not for playing with!

merglemergle · 09/12/2004 13:14

I can't remember what we got ds for his 1st Christmas...and it was only last year!

Uhhhh...lots of socks I think. And a toothbrush (he collects toothbrushes).

How about something like a quilt that he can keep on his bed? If you get a good one it should last til he grows up.

Or a book that you want to become a favourite? (CHOOSE CAREFULLY as even the very hungry caterpiller palls at reading no 10032423)

santaclary · 09/12/2004 14:00

simlar to others I got DD a lovely illustrated book of nursery rhymes and DS2 a big anthology of Shirley Hughes (two shoes, new shoes, bright shiny blue shoes, aaahhhh) which I wrote a message in each of them.
Only for reading with mummy and daddy as hardback and still in dust covers, also big books, but really nice for special cuddly bedtimes, and hopefully to keep always.
(failed to do anything like this with DS1! got him a babywalker which of course he has no use for now at 5.5!!)

sassy · 10/12/2004 07:27

Dh bought our dd a charm bracelet, then for every xmas and bday since, bought a charm for it. means that by the time she is big enough to wear it, will have nice lot of charms on it.
Not really much use for a ds though!

Frizbe · 10/12/2004 13:26

dd got some nice W The Pooh bookends from Granny which should last her a lifetime, if she doesn't break them! We got her the usual clothes, a nice book or two, and popped some cash in her bank, but we didn't go overboard, as decided we'd spend the rest of the year buying her things as she needed them, and we haven't been wrong!

Carameli · 10/12/2004 13:35

for dd's 1st christmas last year we got her a lovely bear. We decided to buy one that was soft and cuddly and was a resonable size that she would be able to cuddle it as a young child and hopefully it might become a favourite toy for her. Over the past year she has really grown to love it and cuddles it when she goes to bed so it has worked out really well.

Our aim was to get something she would remember as being part of her childhood. Someone asked me the other day if I could remember how much any presents my parents bought me had cost when I was really young. Made me realise that we can spend so much at Christmas but sometimes its the really simple things that make a lasting impression.
DD has so so so so many toys and lovely things but her two favoutite cuddly things are her bear and also a little rabbit that a neighbour bought her.

YORK · 10/12/2004 16:27

We gave our dd the usual development toys, clothes etc as she was only 3 months but her main present was a savings account for her with a little starter in it. I think sassy's dh idea was nice for dd's. Keepsakes make great presents for new baby's.

Flumberrysauce · 10/12/2004 16:28

Toy box?

To put all the toys in that he will understand getting later.

I thought of this today. My dd is 10 months and only interested in bashing and banging things, so can't think what to give her except a hammer!

wilbur · 10/12/2004 17:07

We got dd a picture for her bedroom - just a very small framed print, not expensive, but pretty, and hopefully it will hang on her wall throughout her childhood. Also did the special decoration for the tree - I love getting ds and dd's out, bring a tear every time as I'm such a softy.

alamel · 10/12/2004 19:29

I love the idea of a Christmas bauble with ds name on it plus a message. Where can you get these from?

alamel · 11/12/2004 10:30

Any ideas on where to get the customised baubles?? I'm girding my loins (!) for doing my Xmas shopping this weekend (although no doubt will extend into next week) but still would be grateful for any suggestions before I start!

fisilhohoho · 11/12/2004 11:49

We didn't really get ds much last year. We figured that when he was old enough to ask what we'd bought him for his first Xmas we would be able to name a toy that he'd loved since he was a baby! We're not getting him much this year, either, actually (mainly cos we're skint).

ja9 · 11/12/2004 23:29

Bumpety bump! Any ideas on where to get personalisd baubles?
